                             Notes from the arena champ.

Backups. Today's lesson will be on the value of backup weapons. If you don't carry
one and your weapon happens to break on, say, your fourth swing, what are you going
to do? If you're Harry you're going to start throwing punches. Recklessly throwing
your arms at your opponent's weapon, what part of that sounds like a good idea? So
the lesson for all of you young gladiators out there--don't throw punches at a
scimitar. And carry a backup so you don't have to do so.

Now I am left with a choice. One more win and I will probably get to have that
parade the Babes were talking about. Graduation to the isle beckons. But if I don't
fight this turn I can try and make a run at the next tournament. Hhhhmmmmm...I just
can't imagine not defending the throne so I'll stick it out. So who to face? Give
Harry a chance with a weapon in his hands? Maybe next time. He already had a shot.
This one goes out to Albino. Let's see what the youngster is made of.

Well, that's the view from the big chair this time out. If everything works out as
planned I should have one more of these left to write. Anyone care for a history
lesson about the good old days?

                                      SPY REPORT

Greetings warriors! It is I, Zontani Sharp Eyes, here to bring report of the
clash and bustle of the weekly BONSUR games. Former top team BRUTAL LEGION was
unseated this week as BEACH BABES moved up from 2nd ranking to take the top spot with
a 4-1-0 record for the round. YANKEE ROSE caught the eye of many in the gladiatorial
commission as she skillfully bested FATALITY and was awarded 22 points in
recognition. In one of the week's more notable duels, YANKEE ROSE put down FATALITY,
causing him to lose 18 points of recognition in the process. Most watched of the
fights this week, the spotlight was on ALBINO as it bore arms against the challenge
of reigning Duelmaster MARSHAL. The city has turned out in honor of ALBINO, for with
its arena victory it may now lay claim to the highest position in the city!
Informants "close" to the city champion have told me that he never fights without
pantyhose on beneath his armor. Watch out!
But come now, let us look deeper into the maze of contention and crossed blades
that is city BONSUR. I cannot but express pride for the fearlessness of RADIO who
cast caution to the winds and challenged BEACH BETTY, a fighter 28 points higher. To
be sure the battle was a losing one. But I like to think RADIO at least gave BEACH
BETTY a run for hers money. Give BARRIO credit for its courage. Did you note how it
challenged RAMSES despite the 26 point difference in their rankings? The WORDS THAT
END IN O stable will be up late tonight, for indeed it was BARRIO who claimed victory
in the contest, ascending 26 in recognition!
Is not Death a warrior's foremost adviser? Warriors, may this counselor stand
ready at your right hand forever! I must report the passing of RAMSES, veteran of
many duels. 14-13-1 final record His was not illustrious--but death plays no
favorites. This week in mortal passion BARRIO let the blood of RAMSES, sending one
more soul into the void. Retribution by SENTINELS seems inevitable! Some say a
warrior is judged by the way he bears arms. One thing is sure, better a dagger in
hand then a sword on the belt!
The girls are as pretty in BONSUR as ever I remembered them....and the fighters
as ugly! Don't let your reputation slip! More than a sharp eye must I keep, indeed
a stout pair of legs must I keep as well! The endless paths of Alastari await me!
Till we meet again, remember: a turtle walks slow, hides head in a shell, and harms
no one; a lion runs to slay its prey.-- Zontani Sharp Eyes

That dang dwarf again! If I have to fight an NPC, why can't I get someone else? --
Red Lance

Betty -- "Vulture's beak?" No, let's go with masterful. As for my public image, I
think what it needs is a few wins, not a nose-bob. Care to help me out with that
one? -- Ramses

Betty -- Well, of the limited options I thought I'd try taking on another lady. It
didn't work so well. I guess I'll have to go back to beating up on the guys around
here for a while. -- Yankee Rose

Sandy -- You can feel free to despair now. Oh, wait, I lost that dang fight! Drat!
Maybe I should---no, despair isn't good. Maybe I just need another round with Betty.
Betty is much friendlier than you seem to be. (Except for the nose comments) --
Ramses

Pam -- No comment -- Ozy

Albino -- How can you thank the gods that I'm alive when, a, the gods had nothing to
do with it, b, they don't care, and c, my liveliness is just a tad questionable? You
aren't exactly, gentle out there, you know! -- Salton Seahorse
P.S. Okay, "gentle" is probably not something I should expect from a neutered dwarf,
but I've always been an idealist and a dreamer.

Yankee Rose -- Nothing personal, kiddo, but...let's face it, I'm not getting any
younger here, and I worry about the competition, you know? So I guess it IS
personal, come to think of it. But it's a survivable personal, so it should be okay,
right? Of course I'm right. I'm always right, about...fifty percent of the time. --
Beach Betty

Ramses -- Hmm, I think your problem is your insistence on granite. Great stuff,
granite, I'm not saying it isn't...IF you want to make a lasting monument on firm
ground. In the sand? Forget it. -- Sandy Shore

Count Smackula -- You were a big disappointment. I expected you to be, you know,
taller, and handsome, and more suave and all. Charming, at least at the first. But
you just IGNORED me, and I'm worth noticing, you know! My Attractiveness is FIFTEEN.
And I'm also enormously Charismatic. But you? You just STOOD there and SMIRKED at
me! You get ONE warning, buster, and then I'm coming after you in a dark alley with
a steak! -- Pensacolita the Seriously Annoyed

One Coated Tablet -- Ah, your problem was the coat, I bet. It restricts your
movement. Take it off, boy, take it ALLLLL off! -- Galveston Gal

Marshall -- Well, if you're looking for great games, we have Bingo at the cabana on
Twisdy afternoons. Y'all come on by! -- the Beach Babes

Ozy -- But I bet with a little of the aforementioned work, you can have people
despairing like anything. Go, Ozy! -- Sandy Shore

Red Lance -- Well...but there's the possibility of the loser dying. I'd rather YOU
worry about that than me, you know? -- Salton Seahorse
P.S. Okay, that's a selfish attitude, but there it is.

Marshal -- No PARADES? But...not even one where we all carry you on our shoulders to
be our Duel2dude and speak fair words from the top? -- the dismayed Beach Babes, who
love a good parade

I am back in the arena and thinking back to those days in 1984 where I was a
novice and clueless manager.
Now, 22 years later it looks like I am an ancient and once again clueless
manager.
I am looking to recover some old warriors. Since none of them are Aimed Blows,
they are no threat to win anything. I just want to see how they turned out.

The Couatl 2-17
Madam Butterfly 20-701
Gypsy Moth 20-703
King Crab 21-1
Priestess Python 26-1388

Please contact me at DekeYoung@Comcast.net if you know about any of these ancient
warriors, or just want to bs about the old, old, old times.

It is obvious that the Dark Knights wish to be shown the light. Allow me to step
forward and blind them with truth. YOU ARE WORTHLESS!!! The Dark Knights are so
afraid of the light that they hide behind their black armor and empty threats. It is
too bad they are unwilling to actually FIGHT us! I guess our natural light is too
bright for you all to face! Fear us, for we are here! -- Gemini Goldphoenix,
Overlord of the Avengers of Light!

Bloodfeuds:
     a. Bloodfeuds count for all four (4) turns. However, the same warrior may not

     c. known favourite rhythms for one warrior on each team of the winning
alliance. This warrior would be in the Initiates or above brackets on the
last turn of the Turf War (they must have at least one arena fight to
         receive this award).
               Baphomet, Host of TW5
Special Note: A downchallenge is considered from a higher bracket to a lower
bracket. Same bracket, more recognition points? Not a downchallenge!
