"I wonder when we're going to get a teammate named Cheese Louise?" Beach Betty
said, hoping to change the subject before it got started.
"Maybe when you die?" Salton Seahorse shook her head. "You were pathetic out
there, Bets. What happened?"
"I don't know. Just an off day, I guess." Beach Betty shrugged and busied
herself with blending the fruit juices and spices that were the base of her famous
Mystery Punch. "I just couldn't seem to focus. So what? It isn't like it MATTERS
whether or not I win fights."
"It'd matter if you got killed," Pensacolita said. "Nobody else knows how you
make that punch, and think what a loss it would be! Maybe you should pass the recipe
along? Just in case."
"Oh, sure, so you can blab it all over town?" Betty asked. "You have the
biggest mouth in Bonsur, and it's always open. You--"
Salton closed her mind to the argument, typical of post-fight days in the
cabana, and turned her thoughts to the search for reasons. It wasn't easy being the
smartest and most reliable person on the team, but somebody had to do it. Sure,
Betty wasn't a great gladiator, but she wasn't totally pathetic, either. Something
had happened during that fight to cloud her mind or slow her reactions or something.
Salton was an intuitive person, and she had sensed for weeks that something somewhere
was going wrong.
Somewhere, there was a Dark Plot.
The venerable Lord Protector Surfer Sam had taught them the signs. Her duty was
clear: She would have to find it and foil it.
SPY REPORT
It's me, The Unknown Spymaster here with my bag to give you the news on last
week's fights. Say good-bye to SENTINELS, as they are pushed from the coveted top
team spot by the WESTNMAFIA stable. Advancing in the rankings was WESTNMAFIA who
went from last turn's 7-3-0, to this week's record of 11-4-1. Hey everybody, watch
out for SILICONE, who flew up 19 points in the rankings after mashing HUNTSMAN like a
melon. Keep your eye on this guy. And falling like a basher in the top ten was
HUNTSMAN, who dropped 16 points after a disappointing (to say the least) bout with
SILICONE. Try as hard as the WORDS THAT END IN O stable might, they were unable to
find their warrior (and ex-Duelmaster) BARRIO before this week's fights. It's a
proud day for the SENTINELS stable, as their warrior, YANKEE ROSE, ascended the
Duelmaster's throne. Advice to bashers--never force anything, just get a bigger
halberd!
But enough of that bunch, let's get on to the wimps who like to avoid battle!
And hey, kiddies, those of you who didn't avoid WASTELAND II, please raise you hand.
Wow. Does BONSUR really have that many liars? Okay, so I may not be funny, but
catch SENTINELS' act in the arena. Those acrobats seem to be fairly deft at running
from WASTELAND II.
Death is kind of like a new puppy: he's always around wanting to play. (Ha
Zontani, how's that for a wise saying?). Remember: alliances are great, but try and
take your ally in the arena with you and see what happens.
Well, that wasn't too bad; Alarond told me that the people in BONSUR have no
sense of humor. Or maybe that they were senseless. C'mon, Leadfoot, let's make some
