                                 DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
                             Notes from the arena champ.

Now the truth comes out. Chainmail bikinis may indeed be very good at catching
the eyes of certain members of the opposite sex, but wearing them isn't easy.
There's an art to it, especially in the winter! Queen Gemra lines hers with mink,
which does seem to work for her, but for us ordinary women on the sands, mink is not
an option. And yet, avoiding the touch of frostbite, which reaches so quickly
through the links, is critical. As you have discovered, a layer of rose petals is
not enough. A creative idea, I grant you that, and perhaps it would have been better
if you'd chosen petals of a hotter red, but even then...no, I don't think so.
Naturally, women have given this a lot of thought over the centuries since the
invention of chainmail. I have heard that Rirorni women line theirs with felt soaked
in rancid mutton fat. (sigh) Don't get me wrong, many of my best friends are
Rirorni women, but their fondness for rancid mutton fat just completely boggles my
imagination, not to mention my NOSE. If it weren't for the fact that Rirorni men
seem to be even fonder of the r.m.f., the race would probably be extinct by now.
One also hears that Serevadan women wear their mail bikinis over silken harem
garb. This is, I admit, MUCH less offensive to non-Serevadans in the vicinity, but I
have also been told that it is, when winter strikes, ineffective. Well, except when
the winter is particularly mild.
And Adantri women wear three layers of robes, silk, wool, or tiger-skin, OVER
their chainmail bikinis, which seems to me to defeat the whole purpose. True, THEY
know they've got the bikini on, and I suppose it gives them confidence, but if
CONFIDENCE is all you want, well, there are better ways to do it. Even some of my
own teammates swear by a terry-cloth cover-up between the winter solstice and the
vernal equinox.
But these just don't work. None of them, not really. My experienced advice to
you is, forget the chainmail bikini (unless you can get one that is magically heated,
of course, but they are SO expensive). Follow the customs of distant Snowbound or
even more northern locations. Furs and wool, wool and furs, forget the darned
bikini.  Those were the invention of men, anyway, and are NOT a practical clothing;
they were never intended to be practical. So cast off your bikini, trade your
maribou for caribou!

                                    Beach Betty

P.S. We should just call it Duelmistress and be done with it. We women seem to hold
it better.

                                      SPY REPORT

Hail BONSUR! Warriors of the arena, prepare to be praised and blamed for your
deeds. And let's see, ERASMUS fought AMBITIOUS GUARD and gained 16 points and
contributed to SENTINELS' 4-1-0. SILICONE has lost to OZYMANDIUS, falling 6 points,
while helping make ERRATA a 0-1-0 turn. BARRIO challenged for the Duelmastership
this turn, attempting to dethrone BEACH BABES' warrior. And not without some honor,
BARRIO now claims the title and throne of Duelmaster of BONSUR. By the way, was that
our Duelmaster that I saw last night, cramped under the table at The Warty Toad?
He who challenges well, fights well. He who avoids without cause, shall lose
for good reasons. My mama told me that one. WASTELAND II has cause to stand tall,
as they were BONSUR's most avoided team. A smart manager knows this is a team to
beat. And guess who avoided WASTELAND II stable the most? Believe it or not, it was
SENTINELS. Anyone surprised? The most challenged warrior this turn was BEACH BABES'
warrior PENSACOLITA. More fighters challenged her than challenged the Duelmaster!
The Dark Arena is for those who cannot win, not who cannot lose with grace.
Dignity in life or death is the warrior's creed. Kudos go out to SOLO this turn, for
revenging WORDS THAT END IN O's bloodfeud against CHURCH LADIES' warrior ARTIS. Well
done. We'd like to remind certain teams not to rob the graves of their enemies. You
know who you are; and it's considered rude.
Remember, blood on the purple robe does not change it from a purple robe. Dare
to fight bravely. It's been nice chatting with you, until we meet again, keep your
swords sharp and your hammers heavy. Until you see my quill in BONSUR again,
farewell-- Alarond the Scribe

Betty -- Congrats on the throne. Perhaps I am the one that was cursed? -- Yankee
Rose

Sandy -- Random match-ups don't seem to be doing you any favors. Thanks for helping
me finally get over .500! -- Ozy

Grendel -- It seemed like a good idea. It started out so well. Then, wham! Not so
good at the ending. -- Julius B.

Barrio -- Listen, I don't LIKE cats, you know? Why should I get all 'cozy' with a
neutered cat, when I don't even LIKE them? Just, you know, go away! -- Salton
Seahorse

Ozymandius -- Wow, I'm just in awe of your works! Why, I might even despair, except
I don't have time, because of it being my turn to cook tonight at the cabana. I'm
thinking the leftover barbequed pork in tacos, guacamole on the side. Care to come
by and share it? There's plenty. -- Sandy Shore

Solo -- How frustrating. There you were with that O painted on your armor like a
target, and I thought, right, go for it, this will be easy! As if! I'm pretty sure
there was an illusion in there somewhere, because my aim isn't THAT bad, and I
couldn't lay a blade on you, much less hit that silly target. Darn. -- Pensacolita

Enigma -- It was a mystery to me! (giggle) Which is strange, because usually orcish
men aren't mysterious at all. -- Galveston Gal

Erasmus -- You lost your feet? Well, gosh, we wondered whose these were that got
left at the cabana after the last fight. But we never guessed they were YOURS.
Golly. -- the Beach Babes

Yankee Rose -- This is true. Isn't it amazing? I yield to no one in my appreciation
of a well defined bod of the opposite gender, but to get all goofy and lose fight
because of it? I sure hope not! -- Sandy Shore
P.S. But even so, clothes can be a lot of fun...OUT of the arena.

The Council of Lords would like to propose a rule change in ADM and Primus. We
propose that Lord Protectors ranked "Grand Champions" and below (ADM) and "The Tower
Guard" and below (Primus) be allowed to fight in the Dark Arena. This would not
impact the top rankings or title match. Any managers who never got his fill or shot
at fighting Gateway monsters would have it as an option. We believe it might spark
some interest in the ADM/Primus realm for some managers. If interested, speak up in
the newsletters or on forums under the "rules changes" thread and let RSI know. This
could even be something to try for 12 months and then be re-evaluated. What say you,
managers of Ghea? -- The Icelord sends....

     "Show me the money!"
This is the battle cry of a newly formed collection of like-minded individuals:
The High Dolla' Free Agent$. We are not a tough guy alliance: No...we offer no
battle without reward. We search for victory and the prizes and accolades that
follow. We are motivated by winning and will freely use whatever means necessary to
obtain our currency. No stuffy rules, no mandates, no constitutions, no leaders,
only a few objectives:
     1) Win as often as possible
     2) Celebrate freely and revel in your victories; the more meaningless the
victory the more we celebrate. Highsiding and chest thumping are encouraged.
Ostentatious endzone celebrations with prop usage are encouraged, regardless of
fines, penalties, suspensions or arrest by local authorities. It is important to let
your opponent know how great you are; more importantly, you must let your own
alliance mates know how great you are.
