                                 DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
                             Notes from the arena champ.

And so I return to the throne once more. It was a nice try Sandy, but I really
do like this seat. It is, as the Babes have noted, not a bad start to my "works". I
like it here and wish to stay.
As I sat down to write this column, I thought back to the days of my youth, when
I first began this career as a gladiator. My first fight was on turn 171, a solid 16
years ago. At that time the Sentinels were one of 10 teams in the arena with over
100 wins. Most notable in those days were the elder statesmen of the arena--the
Death Masters, whose 431 wins and 42 kills easily dwarfed everyone else. We even had
our own version of Doc Legrand's Lab, including the Duelmaster that turn, a total
parry named Box Turtle. Well named, as I recall. Circus Maximus and Blades of Fire
were also teams of note. Compulsive Doom was on a brief hiatus, but returned
shortly. We disappeared for awhile until turn 193, notable primarily because the
most popular warrior that turn was a young punk with a 5-4 record. Some kid named
"The Muffin Man" of a new team called Wasteland II. Hhhmmmm...I wonder whatever
happened to them?
So much for my most recent jaunt down memory lane. It is now time to go out and
make more memories and continue making a name for myself.
     May your heart beat strong....

Ozymandius, Duelmaster of Bonsur

                                      SPY REPORT

If you were disturbed from your beauty rest only to have to watch a bunch of
BONSUR brutes like you, you'd be grouchy, too. WASTELAND II turned their 3-0-0 turn
into a 3rd place rank in the listings this turn. Any better than this, and you get
put on hit lists. Of course, we're all terribly impressed to see SLAMMER win a fight
and gain 19 points, terribly. Tsk, tsk, SLAMMER beat DOPE BOY FRESH and DOPE BOY
FRESH lost 16 points. You're breakin' my heart. And it's out with the old, in with
the new, as HUNTSMAN takes the Title and last week's bar tab from the old Duelmaster.
Heh, heh. The Warty Toad, humph! I've tasted better ale at mortuaries. Where do
they get this stuff? From BONSUR's trash dumps?
My mother always told me, 'If you don't have anything nice to say, start
talking.' I loved that woman. WASTELAND II, I suppose you'll be glad to know you
were this turn's most avoided team. Care to know who is the most afraid of you? And
who led the way in this mass act of cowardice? Let's see, well, whatcha know? It
was SENTINELS. Ha ha ha ha! Ooh, I'm frightfully impressed, BEACH BETTY was this
turn's most challenged warrior. Watch that ego swell, sports fans.
Death and Taxes. The less death I see, the more it taxes my patience. Let's
see if anyone's dead or dying. We're all going to die in the end, so why worry if
the fate catches up with you sooner that later?
What does the BONSUR arena have in common with the inns? It's just as
comfortable to sleep in either place. Ha ha ha ha! Just wait 'till next time I show
up here, I won't be so nice! So nyaaah! Glad to see the back of this place-- Snide
Clemens

Galveston Gal -- I guess you can say I'm aged to perfection...like a fine wine.
Pinot Noir ca. 1991. Speaking of which, if you save me a goblet of red, I might drop
by sometime to "part" it. -- Moses

Barrio -- I guess the hunting is just fine in the old neighborhood. A drop of 59
points is really quite impressive. -- Huntsman

Solo -- Hhhmmmm...not much to say, really. Nice fight. -- Erasmus

Lila -- You look...well...lots of things. But dangerous is what comes to mind. I
wouldn't mind meeting at the Cabana or on the beach sands, but I think I'll stay away
from you on the arena sand. -- Neanderthal

Cover Your Mouth -- That's all well and good to SAY, but you didn't DO it! And do
NOT tell me that as a golem, you aren't capable of spreading diseases, I would
suppose you can do it EASIER than real people. It's just pure, conceited
pigheadedness on your part. -- Beach Betty

Ozymandius -- Oh, very well DONE, Ozy! I am so glad for you! -- Sandy Shore
P.S. And glad that you didn't kill me in the process, of course! I wouldn't have
liked that.

Braggadocio -- (smugly) Don't stop to do it during the fight next time! -- Galveston
Gal
P.S. Besides, *I* don't think golems can do it PROPERLY at all. You just don't FEEL
it the way a live person does. And feeling is important.

Grendel -- Well, I DO have a certain sympathy for you, us elves have to stick
together against the humans and so on, but actually EATING the other warriors (or
trying to) is maybe going a little far. It isn't so much intimidating (and the
humans, for one, NEED to be intimidated regularly) as it tends to rouse horror and
vengefulness. Sad, but true. So, accept this gentle chastisement and remember, in
the future, that humans always react in the most unexpected and unpleasant ways to
acts of terrorism, and that what you do reflects on ALL elves. -- Pensacolita
P.S. You should just have tackled Hrothgar head-on, instead of trying to make him
suffer by seeing his followers butchered. Tactical error, there. Besides, he'd have
been a lot easier, what with being an evident coward.

Neanderthal -- Too late to reconsider gladiation, you're stuck with it now! But come
on by the cabana after the fights and we'll see what we can do to console you and
brighten your outlook. -- Long Beach Lila, who has done her share of reconsidering

Yankee Rose -- I had a headache. I was in a bad mood. Nothing to do with you
personally. -- Sandy Shore

20 April 2007
All -- I've been...out of circulation for the last couple of months, and my lists
are not up to date. If you've announced a manager name, a new alliance, or changed
a manager name or alliance since the middle of February, let me know in the ads, via
diplo, or in an e-mail (Sue (at) solberg-mathews (dot) com). For that matter, if
you just want to make sure I've got things right, you can always do the same. -- The
