DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
Notes from the arena champ.
I'm back!
You can't get rid of me that easily. Why, to get rid of me you shall have to
promise me a chance to demonstrate my prowess against the best gladiators in the
land! Grant me immortality! Even give me lands and title! Why... huh. I guess you
got rid of me. I'm off to the Isle of the Eye!
But I shall miss this dear old city. Many a good time and great mug of smash
has been had here. But all good things must come to an end. It seems Nomad is
fairly happy I made it, even a bit surprised, which I find disconcerting. Apparently
I am his first 7 will warrior to make it out alive. Perhaps this is proof that I
actually have a bit more of a backbone than that number might indicate? Maybe the
commission doesn't know everything. For example, they seem to think I have a
favorite rhythm of VL/L. VL/L?! Hello, I'm a fast striker! Does that sound like a
very low offensive effort to you?! I thought not. The shortspear I can live with,
but clearly they just don't understand strikers.
If anyone in the packed assemblage of Bonsur should care, I am 9-13-10-21-7-15-
9. At least as much as you believe the numbers--remember my proven "iron will." I
have master ratings in riposte and decise, and advanced expert ratings in init and
attack. I like to learn riposte. Yeah, no kidding. Real insight on that one! I
learned about 2.7 skills a fight. It appears I am headed off to retirement.
Personally I think this is a silly waste of talent, but Nomad seems to believe those
rhythm numbers.
I'm looking for one last big "hurrah!" on the sands and in the cabana. Maybe
back on the sands of the beach. Fare you well, Bonsur! Treat my teammates kindly!
-- Lord Protector Blueburn, Duelmaster of Bonsur
SPY REPORT
Greetings, warriors of BONSUR! Once again I've been called out of retirement
for my abilities and insights into Spyreporting. What's with ETUGEN KHAN? She
actually beat BONSUR's CONDEMNED PIRATE, and walked away with 12 more points from the
fight. Major screwup at SENTINELS. PELARGIR lost 5 points to QUEENIE. Some new
strategies, perhaps? Maybe PELARGIR will provide more easy wins... Try as she
might, PALMETTA PATTY wasn't good enough at persuading BLUEBURN to step down from the
Duelmaster's throne... Wouldn't it be nice to have live subjects to practice on? I
hear some team is looking into the uses of convicted prisoners.
If at first you don't succeed, avoid. That'll get you in the Spyreports. How
well I know the feeling of being the most challenged warrior, QUEENIE! Don't make
idle boasts, they may come back to haunt you.
There have been some calls to lengthen the time limit. Do you want the fighters
to walk away, or not? Many a warrior has met his fate in a hungover stupor. You
young rapscallions, take note!
Well, I'm pretty much through. You guys need to get back practicing. BONSUR is
a nice place to live, but I don't like to live in nice places. Time for my
medication, so I'll leave now. Practice, practice, practice!-- Olaf Modeen

PERSONAL ADS
Jorja -- Perhaps the lack of total parries does have its downside, although that is
hard to imagine, but I doubt it can be the lack of greenhouse gasses. Such gasses
usually come from burning something and as we all know, TPs rarely burn anything,
especially endurance. No, greenhouse gasses are far more likely to come from
offensives such as the perhaps well named Blueburn. -- Nomad
Queenie -- This time it seems you let me keep my axe a bit too long. And, you will
note, the vins are fine! Honestly, even smashed up a bit, I am unlikely to damage
the source of our entertainment! -- Blago
Suzie -- Well, I did try! The attempt was made with the "little guys." Now you're
stuck getting Blueburn for a turn. He wasn't pleased with having to defend his
throne in such a way, but my failure calls for it. -- Cajetan
Sarah -- You know we will be doing that more than once. The numbers make it all but
inevitable. And I was not pleased with the first one. No, I shall have to make sure
the next one does not go so poorly. But in the mean time, how about some of that
smash I have heard so much about for a sore young lady? -- Etugen Khan
Blueburn -- Now, THAT was more like your best efforts. Well won, well done, and I
congratulate you. -- Palmetta Patty
I see no reason to coddle or pamper a convicted assassin, so I din't. Hack, slash,
chop, and if he had a brain--which he demonstrably doesn't or he wouldn't be an
assassin--he would never try that again. -- Saltilla
I have been told that the Khalhums Dwarves are one of the backbones of the arena
system, but you couldn't prove it by me. I didn't even know the system HAD a
backbone, much less more than one. And if it does, I bet the Khalhums Dwarves are
more than a single vertebra. So there. -- Little Venus
They were very backbone-ish before Khalhums arena was closed. Truly!
Blago the Axe -- Wait one while I turn over the page.... Yes, as expected, you won
the fight. That was TOTALLY predictable. But you did it well, and I can even
congratulate myself a little on making you work so hard for it. Let's go get smashed
at the cabana. -- Queenie
Etugen Khan -- Not bad for a first fight. I can see I'll have to be on my toes to
keep up with you, and I hate being on my toes. It makes them ache. Still, one must
sacrifice to achieve worthy goals, I suppose. -- Sarah Sundance
Pelargir -- Absolutely! And I've just gotten a great huge fleece, my brother, who's
a shepherd, sent it to me, to, um, lounge on while drinking smash. Very soft and
cozy, you know. -- Sarah Sundance
Our congratulations to Blueburn, and everyone is invited to the party at the cabana.
-- the Beach Babes
P.S. Jorja congratulates, but is worried about the cost of the party. Details!
We'll handle it.
