Even though he and his companions, Jeri Northwind, a gladiator from Zorpunt, and Berdan, a Fratsfan ex-assassin, had just come from the devastated town of Point, he had not expected to find Iaye in such a mess. "What happened here?" Jeri asked a lounger. The local man, who could have used a bath, shrugged and spat. "The Trier rose up and smashed the waterfront," he said. He looked at the woman calculatingly, as though trying to guess how much money she might spend on hearing his tale. "Or ghosts did it, if you can believe that." "Ghosts out of Krael," Raoul said, nodding. "They hit Point, too." "That's what folks say," the man agreed, scowling. "I guess you heard the story already, huh? When I saw 'em coming, them ghosts, I didn't stay to ask their names. A mean bunch. But things are pretty much okay on up the hill. Harbor House can still give you a bed and a half-way decent feed." Raoul looked at the man thoughtfully, glanced at his companions, and saw that they agreed with him--ask this loafer nothing, tell him nothing. Iaye had an arena, he and Jeri both had contacts there. That was where they'd ask their questions and look for help. Goff, the manager of Red Dog Gang in Iaye, shrugged. "They say it was ghosts, but who knows? Does it matter?" "Not to us," Raoul agreed. "Asking was just curiosity. We've got other business. We're chasing a man known as Peranis, a Raltuman--" "Him! He's a big-time troublemaker here, but he's got powerful friends. Nobody can touch him." "That's what we heard in Point, too," Jeri said, nodding. "Is he actually here now?" "No, I don't think so, I think he went to Skaithvarn. I keep track of him, as much as I can, so as to keep out of his way. I had a run-in with him a few years back," Goff explained, "and he's been out to do me bad turns ever since. That man can REALLY hold a grudge. Uh...what do you want him for?" Raoul glanced at Berdan, and the Fratsfan shrugged and sighed. "Peranis is a member of the Assassins' Guild," Berdan said. "A high-ranking member. Though he's been doing mostly administrative work lately, never doubt for a minute that he is a dangerous man." "Right, I won't doubt it," Goff said. "Why are you following him?" "Because he's run off with the Guild's Black Book...which lists all the assassins, all the Andorian spies abroad, all the people that the Guild is in a position to coerce--" "Blackmail, you mean," Raoul growled. Berdan nodded. "But up until the King disbanded the Guild, it wasn't blackmail, it was, ah, 'encouraging them to act in the national interest rather than in their own'." "With the 'national interest' being determined by the Guild, of course," Jeri muttered. "This Black Book, is it just names, or does it have details?" Goff asked. "I mean, if somebody steals it from Peranis, can that somebody use it to blackmail?" "Yes. We are pursuing Peranis to retrieve the book, which will be--" "Which will be burned as soon as we get our hands on it," Raoul finished. "But some of the information might be of great use to the King!" Berdan protested. Raoul shook his head. "No. That book is muck," he said flatly, "and you can't pick up even a little of the muck without getting dirty. Let the King compile his own files for 'encouraging' his citizens." "And I hope he doesn't feel the need," Jeri added. "But you're right about the Black Book. We've got to burn it." "But first we have to catch Peranis and get the Book away from him," Raoul finished. "You say he went to Skaithvarn. Where? There are several strong city- states over there." "I didn't ask him where he was going. My idea was to stay out of sight," Goff pointed out. "But the word is he mostly goes to Istoreth." "Isn't that the one that has a treaty with Osksi?" Raoul asked. "I didn't like the idea of that book falling into S'varni hands, and I like it less if the Osksians are going to have a chance at it." He took off his bowler and frowned down into it as though he was looking into a crystal ball. "We need to get over there. You know anyone with a boat?" "Well...yeah, I've got a boat myself that'd make the crossing. It isn't that far. But...." Goff ran a hand through his hair, leaving it standing on end. "But it might be needed here--what if the ghosts come back?" "Why should they come back?" Raoul asked. "Nobody knows why they came in the first place, so how can we know whether they'll come back?" The manager shook his head like a dog shaking off water. "Are things going crazy everywhere?" "Yes," Jeri answered, surprising the others. Defensively she added, "Well, they are! Point was destroyed by the ghosts, too, and Seam now has a geyser in the middle of town that can't be helping things much, and there are other stories going around. Have you heard anything at all from Ti lately?" "I know, doll," Raoul said quietly, "but we can't do more than one thing at a time, and our job is to catch Peranis." * }%|[-----+O+-----]|%{ * }%|[-----+O+-----]|%{ * }%|[-----+O+-----]|%{ * ---===ANDORIAN REGIONAL NEWS===--- Duelmasters ----------- DM 8 ARKERS (turn 231): DOMINO of BONDAGE (Spawn, mgr.) Greetings again, Arkers!!! Firstly a warm welcome to out newcomers out on the sands, Phoenix Fire and Pagan Mysteries. Here's to a long, moderately successful (well, whaddya expect?!) stay here!! Secondly a welcome back to newly returned teams, Northern Badlands and Ladies in Waiting...though remember Ladies (especially Miss Step) you are in 'waiting', so keep you sweaty palms off my Crown. I've grown accustomed to it now!! Still leaving my card open for La Pentarchie to avenge the loss of Mosswart (or at least try) so am avoiding those Orcs and Ladies. Think I may have posted a challenge against the onomatopoeic Fanta, just to keep him honest.... Until next time, your duelMISTRESS of Doom...DOMINO. SPY REPORT Greetings, warriors of ARKERS! Once again I've been called out of retirement for my abilities and insights into Spyreporting. Biff! Pow! ARKERS watched with glee as X-FORCE got knocked off top spot by BONDAGE! Hmmmph! I always thought BLOOD DANCERS was an over-rated team and they proved it with a 0-0-0! Up 'n down. Up 'n down. Rankings always change. Up 'n down. I think I'm gonna be... Well, WOLFBANE's 6th moved them up to 4-1-0 place. LADIES IN WAITING showed ARKERS what they were made of as they fought with a vengeance to walk off with 5-0-0. What's with FOTHERINFOP? He actually beat X-FORCE's MELTDOWN, and walked away with 24 more points from the fight. Major screwup at X-FORCE. MELTDOWN lost 16 points to FOTHERINFOP. Some new strategies, perhaps? Maybe MELTDOWN will provide more easy wins... Try as he might, WEIRD WILLIAM wasn't good enough at persuading DOMINO to step down from the Duelmaster's throne... Wouldn't it be nice to have live subjects to practice on? I hear some team is looking into the uses of convicted prisoners. If at first you don't succeed, avoid. That'll get you in the Spyreports. How well I know the feeling of being in the most avoided team! Don't fall out of practive, LADIES IN WAITING! In my day, no team with a 280-230-12 would scare me off! What's the problem, BONDAGE? How well I know the feeling of being the most challenged warrior, FOTHERINFOP! Don't make idle boasts, they may come back to haunt you. Keep challenging up 26 points, POLARIS, and I won't have to write about you much longer. HUNGRY WAIF always accepts those kind of challenges... POLARIS found one way to advance: challenging HUNGRY WAIF and losing, but getting 2 points. No brain, no pain. Warriors of ARKERS unite. You have only your games to lose! Hmm... More surprises must remain in store for me, if SIMPLE MIND can return from the Dark Arena. WINDLEMARN looked pretty sick and surprised when he learned DYSERAY is sending him to the Dark Arena! Whadd'he expect with a 4-11-0? WEIRD WILLIAM, with his forgettable 23-20-0, lost to DOMINO in a forgettable match. LA PENTARCHIE didn't seem to mind very much. DOMINO had a sure-fire victory when she challenged WEIRD WILLIAM, 119 points below her. Was anyone really surprised when WEIRD WILLIAM bit it? Many a warrior has met his fate in a hungover stupor. You young rapscallions, take note! Many other cities have retirement homes for aged warriors. Any plans here? All work and no play makes Olaf a dull fighter. Work and play no fighter dull Olaf. Olaffighterwork and no play. Remember--a good fighter needs both good skills and good luck. Until next time,-- Olaf Modeen DUELMASTER W L K POINTS TEAM NAME DOMINO 3994 14 4 3 253 BONDAGE (469) CHALLENGER CHAMPIONS W L K POINTS TEAM NAME FANTA FUELED FUZZ 4092 24 7 0 129 BLACKTHORN ORCS (425) BETHUNES 4083 22 14 1 105 LA PENTARCHIE (481) MISS STEP 3978 16 11 0 101 LADIES IN WAITING (115) FOTHERINFOP 4271 13 8 1 99 WIMPS OF PERIL (504) CHAMPIONS W L K POINTS TEAM NAME CLOSED MIND 4429 10 3 0 89 BLACKTHORN ORCS (425) MISS COMMUNE KATE 4118 9 4 0 87 LADIES IN WAITING (115) -ODDJOB 3920 13 7 0 84 BONDAGE (469) SIMPLE MIND 4431 7 5 3 75 BLACKTHORN ORCS (425) -REX RED 4447 6 4 1 73 BLOOD DANCERS (527) MELTDOWN 4353 13 3 0 72 X-FORCE (484) MISS TOOK 4091 10 7 1 71 LADIES IN WAITING (115) GOLDENEYE 4479 5 1 0 67 BONDAGE (469) CHALLENGER ADEPTS W L K POINTS TEAM NAME WOLFHOUND 4158 10 4 0 66 DOGPOUND (477) LUMBERING WAIF 4346 8 6 0 66 HAPLESS WAIF (515) RANCID WAIF 4413 7 6 0 66 HAPLESS WAIF (515) ASH 4307 9 7 1 65 TREE PEOPLE (511) THOG 4399 8 9 0 63 WOLFBANE (521) ADEPTS W L K POINTS TEAM NAME HUNGRY WAIF 4349 6 8 1 55 HAPLESS WAIF (515) FRENZIED WAIF 4345 8 6 0 52 HAPLESS WAIF (515) JENDAR ILLKEN 4112 12 13 0 50 DYSERAY (456) -SASHA BAL TOR 4034 14 7 0 49 NORTHERN BADLANDS (397) BORZOI 3983 8 6 0 48 DOGPOUND (477) HOOF HEARTED 4503 5 2 0 48 WIMPS OF PERIL (504) REDWOOD 4304 10 5 0 47 TREE PEOPLE (511) L'ORC BLEU 4352 7 9 0 45 LA PENTARCHIE (481) -BLACK LAB 4265 7 2 0 45 DOGPOUND (477) SQUIFFY 4490 7 1 0 42 WIMPS OF PERIL (504) -SILVERFANG 4448 5 4 1 42 BLOOD DANCERS (527) -REQUIEM 4444 5 4 2 41 BLOOD DANCERS (527) SONYA 4397 7 7 0 40 WOLFBANE (521) ADEPTS W L K POINTS TEAM NAME MISS TREE MEAT 4418 6 2 0 39 LADIES IN WAITING (115) MATARA WENTTRO 4266 6 9 0 37 DYSERAY (456) -WARPATH 4039 6 4 1 36 GEN-X (482) -YMIR BLOODRAVEN 4369 4 1 0 34 NORTHERN BADLANDS (397) CHALLENGER INITIATES W L K POINTS TEAM NAME -KAMEN THE HUNTER 4259 5 4 2 33 NORTHERN BADLANDS (397) -CRULE 4468 4 4 1 32 NEW BLOOD (516) GONZAGO 4395 6 10 1 29 WOLFBANE (521) QUEUE 4549 4 0 1 28 BONDAGE (469) POLARIS 4547 3 1 0 28 X-FORCE (484) TOBACCO ROSE 4529 2 0 1 26 PHOENIX FIRE (532) PUSSY GALORE 4467 2 0 0 24 BONDAGE (469) INITIATES W L K POINTS TEAM NAME CASTOR BEAN 4442 6 5 0 23 TREE PEOPLE (511) SLICK 4495 4 4 1 21 LA PENTARCHIE (481) -CABLE 4038 4 6 0 21 GEN-X (482) MISS CONSTRUED 4419 2 6 0 21 LADIES IN WAITING (115) -JUGGERNAUT 4040 5 5 0 20 GEN-X (482) FAERIE DRAGON 4534 1 1 0 20 PHOENIX FIRE (532) -IMPULSE 4548 1 0 0 20 NEW BLOOD (516) -WOLVERINE 4037 4 6 1 19 GEN-X (482) CHIKEN HEARTED 4502 3 4 0 19 WIMPS OF PERIL (504) TEMPEST 4462 4 6 0 18 X-FORCE (484) -ZEALOT 4507 2 3 0 18 NEW BLOOD (516) CRONUS 4550 2 0 0 17 WOLFBANE (521) PSYLOCKE 4470 1 3 0 16 X-FORCE (484) LUGH 4559 2 0 1 15 PAGAN MYSTERIES (533) MARKS CLOAKER 4481 2 2 0 15 DYSERAY (456) -WITLESS WAIF 4347 1 3 0 14 HAPLESS WAIF (515) ESTUPIDO 4572 2 0 0 10 WIMPS OF PERIL (504) -FIRE FLY 4533 1 0 0 10 PHOENIX FIRE (532) FERAL 4562 1 1 0 8 X-FORCE (484) GORM 4488 1 4 0 8 WOLFBANE (521) JAGUARMAN 4532 0 2 0 8 PHOENIX FIRE (532) -TYGOL NIGHTSTALKER 4518 2 1 0 7 BLOOD DANCERS (527) MORRIGAN 4557 1 1 1 7 PAGAN MYSTERIES (533) CERNUNNOS 4556 1 1 0 6 PAGAN MYSTERIES (533) CHOW 4552 0 2 0 6 DOGPOUND (477) -MR. That's why I got FFF and FI out of the way. I must say that was not very bright. And now I guess Goldeneye will take the throne after Domino...ick. -- Le Pentarque Hey, guys! My last ad didn't go through...let's try again. I don't talk much from my remote abode, but I wanted to say a little something about Mosswart, who was really helpless but funny. I actually challenged the other champions with Bethunes and WW to allow him to lick Domino, that was a bright move. Sad.... Now I'm anxious to see Domino leaving, and worried about Goldeneye climbing. Anyway, my stable is now much younger and I'll try to get serious warriors. About FFF, I feel guilty with all these challenges, but there are too many fast guys lurking for my old skill-giving slow dreadnoughts. I'll stop challenging you right now. One last word about WW, this weirdo got the Bash tactic with the short spear! -- Le Pentarque Fotherinfop -- I turn away much happier from our reunion. -- Miss Step Wolfhound -- I thought I was doomed with that matchup, but the luck of the Irish must have been on my side. -- Miss Commune Kate Frenzied Waif -- They let waifs step on the sands these days? I didn't think you'd have the Constitution to hack it. -- Miss Took Squiffy -- You are your fellows Arkerites are truly sick, making Miss Tree Meat the most popular dish on the menu last month. -- Miss Tree Meat Castor Bean -- I was expecting the oil, not the bean. -- Miss Construed Jaguarman -- I'm sure you just loved getting your first fight as a match up with me. I was amazed that my popularity marginally increased. -- Estupido Psylocke -- The one nice thing you can say about our fight is that you were a better fighter after the fight than before. Well, maybe not better, but stronger. Perhaps you shouldn't challenge so much. -- Chiken Hearted Miss Step -- Don't you ever Miss? Not a good match up for me and I didn't even learn anything. Rats! -- Fotherinfop P.S. I need to find a TP or two to fight. Windlemarn -- I can see why your record is what it is. Anyone who would be severely hurt when hit by a medium shield, should find a new line of work. -- Hoof Hearted Miss Tree Meat -- Ouch! You hit me twice with that big thingy. You will have to admit that I know how to teach a skill or two. -- Squiffy Feral -- My head has more lumps than my wife's oatmeal! It will be ringing for weeks! -- Cernannos Sasha Bal Tor -- Good to see you again. Thanks for the win (again). -- Borzoi Lugh -- See you soon! -- Chow Brigid -- Longsword is also a good weapon for your style. (As is a scimitar 2 HD.) 14+. -- K-9 mgr. Dogpound Miss Commune Kate -- Well done! I never mind losing when I learn like that. -- Wolfhound Wimpy -- This is the only X-Force team I have going. My only other X-Force team is in arena-44. Anyway I think you're ahead in this arena. -- Savant Closed Mind -- It was way too close for my comfort. -- Meltdown Ash -- I think I'm glad you broke your weapon. -- Meltdown Chicken Hearted -- That was probably the wrong strategy. -- Psylocke Bobby Bigfoot -- Welcome!! And commiserations on the untimely loss of a TC contender in the mail-in. Be interested to know the style/stats if one who could come so close. -- Spawn Marks Cloaker -- Wow!! Didn't think I'd be able to fight like that in turn 1 here, even with a few tourney fights under my belt. I really enjoyed myself out there, hope you did too! -- Pussy Galore Weird William -- It's a cheap trick, I know, but the early knockdown works for me! -- Domino Lumbering Waif -- Wow...you're a big'un, aren't you!! Glad you gave up before you had a chance to have a go back, I have a feeling I'd know it if you hit me!! -- Goldeneye Westin Mo, RIP -- I'm ashamed of myself, picking on you when you were already down. I deserve whatever you boss decides to throw at me. Unlucky. -- Queue Kamen the Hunter -- I wasn't quite ready for all that leapin' about that you did, but I will have my day yet. -- Faerie Dragon Calliech -- I was expecting some flashy action from one of your style; perhaps you should try cranking it up a bit, just a thought. -- Tobacco Rose P.S. I asked my wise manager about your name, as he knew a thing or three about Pagan mysteries. He said that he'd heard some stories told by a people known as Scots, about a blue faced hag, Calliech, who is reborn on Samhain and is defeated by Brigidon Beltane. Is that about right? Morrigan -- Didn't your mother warn you if play with fire, you get burned? -- Fire Fly Estupido -- I wish you a very short, and humblingly dull arena career. -- Jaguarman All -- Vicious Troll, basher, 17-4-17-5-17-9-15: I decided to spare Arkers from this brute. I thought that he might kill some initiates before they become skilled enough to handle him. Besides I like high wits, not dimwits. -- Bobby Bigfoot/Phoenix Fire 27 May 2003 A note to everyone regarding manager names and manager lists -- If you're running a team incognito, all you have to do is let me know and I won't put your name on any manager lists. It has seemed though, that more people want their names listed, even if they do not announce themselves, than the other way around. Also, I do maintain the list more or less by hand and errors do creep in. You have but to say I've made an error and no one will be the wiser (except thee and me, of course). -- The Saint, keeper of lists 30 May 2003 Duelmasters Friends and Friendly Foes -- I am returning to the United States for the summer. Such an epic demands a sequel. Therefore, Master Darque and Jack Wolfspider are pleased to announce the return of the Stormcrowe Slaughterhouse. Where? Stormcrowe DM 45 (slow). When? The Slaughterhouse returns on Turn 207, due August 19. How can you get into the action? Bring a team (one per entrant please) to arena 45 and announce your intention to join the contest in the Personals. Rules: This time around the rules are very simple. Each warrior win against a higher rated opponent (one or more points higher in the ratings) brings you 10 points, against even rated opponent 7 points, lower rated 5 points. Wins against NPCs or by a warrior who downchallenges are worth 0 points. Points are doubled for kills. All warriors in the arena whether participating in the Slaughterhouse or not are fair game. Points are totaled weekly, and the contestant whose team has racked up the most points at the end of 10 turns is declared Slaughterhouse Champion. Prizes: To be announced; we're still talking with RSI about it. Figure it will be something pretty good. But hey, who needs prizes when the honor of being Slaughterhouse Champion awaits! More info: Master Darque, MasterDarqueDM@aol.com, or Jack Wolfspider, russtulp@aol.com. Or diplo Darque Forces (428) or Dynastic (433) in Arena 45.
