                               FIVE CYCLES (Part One)

The warriors had finally gathered together in one central location for the first
time since they had been recruited to test their skills in the arena. The training
hall was large enough to accommodate the needs of all five and each combatant took
full advantage of this fact, staking their own individual claims on particular
sections of the expansive hall.
The silent observation of each gladiator by The Boss caused the hairs on The
Keeper's neck to bristle as he stood directly beside the man clad in a rather
expensive double breasted pinstripe suit.
"They don't look like much," The Boss spoke up rather gruffly as he observed his
investments.
"Just wait until they hit the sands, sir. You won't be disappointed. Our
scouts only recruit the best. They're certainly paid enough to do so," The Keeper
replied, swallowing hard, obviously not used to the company of the team's investor.
"Make sure they're aware of the fact that losing will not be tolerated. Every
loss is a step toward the Dark Arena. This team *will* have a winning record after
five cycles of combat. If not, the consequences will be...severe."
The Keeper managed to muster an affirmative nod toward his stoic overseer before
shifting a more critical eye toward his prospects.
His gaze drifted toward The Succubus, an Aruaki female busying herself with
perusing a nearby weapon's rack, slender fingers dancing across the pommels of
several different longswords.
The Roustabout was the picture of serenity, seated cross-legged on the floor,
eyelids closed as he fell into a deeply meditative state.
The Keeper couldn't help but notice a stark contrast in individual training
methods and approaches to combat as he observed The Brute, an Orc seemingly on the
verge of insanity as he trudged a path across the training hell, violently pounding
his fists against his head.
The Steadfast had found solace in his kata, the scimitar in hand cleaving a
crisp slash through the air before the Rirorni retreated hastily, weaving the weapon
in an intricate parry and returning to the fray against his imaginary opponent,
rending him in two with a vicious hack.
Last but not least, The Keeper turned his attention toward The Hooligan who
seemed more concerned with the dirt beneath her nails than anything else as she
leaned rather leisurely against a support beam.
     "Five cycles. Make it happen."
The parting words of The Boss lingered in The Keeper's head as he moved forward
to initiate his team's first training session.

                                      SPY REPORT

Hail and well met warriors of ARKERS! Know me for who I am, Zontani Sharp Eyes,
Spymaster extraordinaire of all Alastari. Former top team YAKUZA was unseated this
week as LA PENTARCHIE moved up from 4th ranking to take the top spot with a 4-0-0
record for the round. Warriors--remember that glory waits always around the corner!
Witness how this week X-FORCE went 3-1-1 to move up 5 in the rankings. My praise to
LA PENTARCHIE for their 4-0-0 week this time out. Indeed, it was a skillfully fought
round deserving of notice! The city turned out in welcome to meet the banners of a
new guild, THE, as they entered the city this week. May victory find you! S. G.
caught the eye of many in the gladiatorial commission as he skillfully bested IMBER
LACK and was awarded 18 points in recognition. In one of the week's more notable
duels, S. G. put down IMBER LACK, causing him to lose 12 points of recognition in the
process. Unwilling to wait upon the will of others, Duelmaster SENSEI JAN challenged
NYTEMAIR last week in a match to decide the fate of the throne. Although NYTEMAIR
made a valiant effort, it did not suffice to topple the reign of victorious SENSEI
JAN. No confirmation, but my sources claim that the top team has gained their
position using magical aids. Charmed weapons perhaps?
I have been in deep conclave with my spies who watched all that has recently
transpired. Indeed there is much I would report. ARKERS, city of gladiators!
Mighty among the names of thy guilds is CHAMPIONS OF STEEL, a guild shunned and
avoided by many in the weekly duels. Methinks more than a few here could name the
guild it was that spent the better part of last week avoiding CHAMPIONS OF STEEL.
Indeed it was PHOENIX FIRE. Mighty fighters cannot but expect competition from those
below. AUJARD take warning! You have more than a few enemies in ARKERS. A match
that raised a few eyebrows at the games this week, it seems that TIEN posted a
challenge against the more highly recognized ALAIN DRAGOON. The results, you ask?
Well, the firebrand TIEN was bested by ALAIN DRAGOON. Remember warriors, this is the
discipline of steel. I can not but mention with disdain the name of BIBERON D'ACIER
who this week posted a challenge to a warrior a full 9 points below in the rankings.
I thought BIBERON D'ACIER showed great skill and promise when he bested JERNIG MARS.
All right, so I slept through it! Big deal!
What warrior does not hone his years, impatiently waiting for the moment of his
foe's mortality? Dark alleys may hide both secrets and assassins. In the arena
there is only the brightness of steel. Keep vigil always!
If it were not for my skills as a spy I would have been mugged three times
already in ARKERS. Nice atmosphere you have here! Sadly warriors, now longer can I
keep thy company nor savor the ale of thy fine city. Depart I must and soon! Till
we meet again, remember: a turtle walks slow, hides head in a shell, and harms no
one; a lion runs to slay its prey.-- Zontani Sharp Eyes

Aujuard -- I fought most of that one on my backside. Please feel free to come again,
maybe not here though since I'm going to Andorak. -- Chaos Warrior

Chiana -- Now that is a weird weapon combo! Just a pointer though, lose one (the
flashy one). You'll do much better -- Yor

Sensei Jan -- I should have kept my mouth shut when I said I was hard to hit. You
didn't have much trouble, but I shall be back someday. -- Nytemair

Alain -- Be ready, my friend. I challenged you and I think I may have a better
chance this time. -- Gravedigger

Geroge Jim -- No way! You were supposed to fall down. I did like those skills. I
haven't gotten many yet. -- Minotaur

Sensei Jan (mgr.) -- Thank you, sir. It is also an honor to fight here in Arkers
with you. I'm a bit slow sometimes, but who is HAL? Chaos Warrior is challenging
Sensei Jan for his title before he leaves. Please don't kill him. (heh heh) --
Blackstorm

All -- Chaos Warrior is my all time favorite TP. I'll share his stats with you.

any is needed. Feel free to ask. -- Blackstorm (COS)

Ghost of Limnor Ordin -- What can I say. I got a little carried away. -- Elixir
P.S. Rest in peace.

Dazzler -- You're a dazzler, all right. They tell me I should apologize for trying
to bury you in the sand. I don't see it, myself. It's what we orcs always try to
do--hide our women, you know. And while I suppose you're not my woman in the fullest
sense, for the period of the fight, and maybe a few minutes afterward, you ARE. So
you see. -- Geroge Jim

V.Baltimore--W.Balt -- You're going to have to explain that one. I'm completely at a
loss, and attempting to puzzle out the significance of your name cost me the fight.
What can I say? I was confused. -- Jernig Mars

If that Merchant is Honest, I'll eat his cash box. -- Feordis Ink

Sorry about no personals lately guys. I'll try and be a little more sociable. I'll

Bobby -- You're having a tough time, my friend. Don't send any more of your crew

again. ;) -- Sasha Bal Tor

Chaos W. -- I know I can take you, I know I can.... -- Ymir Bloodraven
