TEAM SPOTLIGHT
The CONSORTIUM WASTE
Not everything in DM needs to be defined by the parameters and expectations of
today's game--godlings, sandbaggers, tournaments, life-changing prizes, +20 warriors,
etc, etc. Many yet thrive on arena play, and for many years The Consortium was a
presence in 30+ active arenas. The record of over 400 warriors graduated is not
likely to be bested in our DM lifetimes.
You may know of The Consortium for one or many reasons:
* A different manager and theme in every arena with many personals, DM columns, and
spotlights.
* Helping many rookies and newcomers to understand and prosper in the game.
* Running every rollup, with virtually no DM action.
* 20+ arenas with .600+ W/L record, many with 500+ wins, and some nearing 1000.
* No down challenging, little killing, and great respect for opponents.
* Well known managers like Curator, Lady Fern, Pretty Pandora, Crazy Creepster,
Fandil The Wise, Kennelworth, Ace, Senator Bob Dole, Mr. T, Lenpro, Mino, JD
Rockefeller, Snuffy, Oz, Sweetie-Pie, Midas, Uncle Sam, Oremaster, and many more.
* 400+ warriors graduated to ADM, with over 30,000 wins in the game
One major factor in all the success was the running of mid-level, mediocre warriors,
the most important of which was "The Consortium Waste". How would you like to have 9
warriors (these are only examples of many more) provide a record of 175-48-2? No,
not "scum' as by far the majority of wins were by doing damage. These same nine
below provided 16 DM crowns, 4 TVs, and a 98-73-1 tournament record. The
contributions are from DM 20 (Animal Farm--Mino), DM 40 (Demons Of Death--Pretty
Pandora), DM46 (Fandils--Fandil The Wise), DM47 (Land Of Oz--Oz), and DM60 (The Crazy
Creeps--Creepster).

Consortium what it was and is.
As a final note, great warriors can be made with 5-9 WL warriors--the opposite of The
Consortium Waste. Perhaps that makes for another day's presentation.
P.S. By the way, for those of you who think that this type of design is a "thing of
the past", please observe "Hourglass" in DM47 running this very moment (10-12-04)
with a 12-1 record. The Consortium Waste is invaluable and timeless. (Hourglass

Notes from the arena champ.
I know you expect a lot out of Duelmasters here in Arkers, but I really am too
busy to pen much. I m hoping that Becky will help with this because I'm not the
greatest at book-learnin', and besides I'd like to try to cop a feel. (You could say
that back in my day.)
I want to give thanks to all those who got me here. Mr. Twain, of course
started it all. My Aunt pulled my ear enough times to help me mature. Wrong!
Couldn't have gotten this far without my friend Huck, and, of course, there is Becky,
the light of my life. (And the stars and the moon and the...well I won't go into
that, right, Becky? Especially what really happened in that cave! Wink.) I owe
Injun Joe a lot, because he really made me famous. And there is Curator who pulled
me and Becky away from things in that fabulous time machine of his, and taught me how
to be a patient warrior. (Three yards and a cloud of dust--well, at least the cloud
of dust--you know?)
Sorry, Lady Inochi. Didn't mean for that to happen. Didn't want to be your
first. (Don't tell, Becky.) But you sure were a feisty babe. Second thought, can
we try that again?!
Gotta go. Gotta run. Got fences to paint. Rafts to ride. Fishin' to finish.

SPY REPORT
Greetings, Warriors of ARKERS. Allow this humble servant Novgorodny Vir to give
you a respite from the fights in the form of this Spyreport. The boys at YAKUZA left
the arena dejected, after being kicked out of the top spot by ORCISH IDIOMS. Good
show! Nothing works for a team like victory (How's that for a perceptive
observation?) as FURIOUS FIVE can attest... ORCISH IDIOMS posted a nice gain, to
come in 1st. Everybody loves a winner... LEVIATHAN had cause to celebrate, after
CHIANA got 18 points by beating YOR DETHKALL. KISERU certainly had a baffled
expression on his face, after losing to ELIXIR and losing 13 points in the process!
In ARKERS, nothing is permanent (except Death), and we find ourselves a new
Duelmaster, INOCHI. Word has it one team in ARKERS is using psychics to predict
wins. They lead a charmed life!
A Zenmaster once told me, 'Does not the spinning wheel turn? And do not the
little birds cry out?' Any ideas? Like a horde of jackals fleeing from the lion, so
did the "warriors" in ARKERS avoid ENTENTER. As a woman of good breeding scorns the
"warriors" of SMITHSONIAN, so did that sorry team shy from ENTENTER Everyone is
famous for fifteen minutes, and LIN MINMEI is it right now. Most challenged warrior.
Isn't YAKUZA proud! AUJARD found himself challenged by a warrior 23 below: SUNFIRE.
SUNFIRE of X-FORCE kept his wits as he was beat by AUJARD.
Ah, the duel! The roar of the oppenent, the smell of the crowd! A moment of
silence for MOREGANA, who died an untimely death at the hands of SPUD. In the spirit
of revenge, we call upon SOULTAKERS to act! Never one to advocate diplomacy and
restraint, I was pleased to see CHAMPIONS OF STEEL retaliate against X-FORCE in
bloodfeud! Questions are being raised about the disposing of severed body parts in
the arena. A certain tavern in ARKERS would I avoid!
Do not think spyreporting in ARKERS is the highlight of my life. My fingers
tire and I fear my incessant prattling may cause unfair judgement upon my impeccable
character. Like a mixed metaphor, and an overtaxed simile, I now bid ARKERS

The Olympics have arrived!
The Mordanti Olympics, having been gone for six years, have returned to the Mordanti
Alliance, sponsored by Amicitia Primoris. Teams have competed against each other for
recognition and notoriety four times in the past. It is far past time for the fifth
Mordanti Olympics to be held. The Mordanti Olympics shall be held in the Mordant
arena (DM-1) from May 1st (T544) through Oct 30 (T557). There will be a
'registration period' lasting until T543, where teams will be allowed to register by
activating in Mordant and declaring their participation in the personals. Rules will
be posted in the Mordant arena (DM-1) newsletter no later than T543, but shall be
available online before then. An announcement will be made as to where they will be
posted. Prizes will be awarded to the winners.
