Sense of Loss
"I don't know what else to do boss. She keeps crying. She has been nearly
catatonic since waking in the infirmary. I can't even get her into the yard to
practice."
Master Beru's wizened eyes surveyed the sprawling form in the room before him.
At some point she had torn her clothes and her muscled back shook as her body
responded to her grief. He took a deep breath, wondering what lies he would have to
tell Ginglio this week when he stopped to check on the "prizes".
"Let me talk to her. Alone."
Samresh bowed low, casting a last concerned look into the room. There were
rumors about how close he was to the fighter, but they were all groundless. He could
no more take advantage of the girl then Master Beru could fly to the moon.
Stepping into the room, he closed the door. Walking over, he kneeled next to
the tormented form bent over the single wooden bed frame and mattress. Gently, he
rested his calloused right hand on her bare back.
Her sobs continued, oblivious to his presence. Softly he rubbed her back,
leaning close to her head. His lips began to move as he soothed her as best he
could.
This continued for several minutes, until her face came up looking him in the
eyes. Her sobs renewed as her arms swung around his shoulders. Her head buried into
his shoulder, he continued to tell her to let it out and that it would be fine.
The evening was well and truly begun when Master Beru escorted a weak, UN-crying
Gingnia out of her quarters and down the hallway to the mess hall. As they entered,
hopeful eyes looked up and smiles blossomed on faces all around. Ruby was the first
to get up and cross to the doorway, but soon everyone else was as well.
Master Beru pushed through the crowd to Samresh as words of encouragement and
hope were given to the girl. Once to Samresh, he pointed to the far corner of the
room. Grabbing his coat off the chair where he had left it, he began sliding into it
as he walked to the place he had indicated.
"Samresh, I have to be leaving. I know it was a short visit, but you have this
well in hand. Watch the girl. I think she is fine now, but keep an eye out just in
case."
"Yes sir. Any news of the 'lost ones'?"
"Don't call them that! We know exactly where they are so they are not lost."
"Correct sir, but we can't get to them, can we? Or is that changed?"
"No. That is not changed. Rosemary is beside herself. Those we found can come
and go freely through the gates, but they can not open them as far as we know and
they can not carry others with them either. So for now we can bring them in and send
messages, but otherwise Freddie and the rest are still cut off from us."
"I don't envy you the task of calming her down."
"Thanks! Actually she is an easy one. I hand her a weapon and send her into
the arena. Now the poor sots that have to share the arena with her, they are the
ones I pity."
Samresh chuckled and both smiled at their whimsy. Master Beru's face changed as
the mirth faded. Samresh suddenly realized that he had not seen his boss this
concerned since their days on the other side of the gate.
"Sir, is everything alright?"
His eyes at first said he meant to lie, but then softened as he responded, "You
were always TOO good at reading me. Most things are fine. But I am getting
reports.... Listen, Da Champ is dead. Totally dead. Someone knows our secrets and
is figuring out ways around them. Keep an eye out for anything or anyone unusual and
let me know immediately. Understand?"
Nodding, Samresh caught his boss's handshake before watching him pull open the
door and stride across the yard to the stables. In front of the stables one of the
new stallions pranced eagerly waiting for his new master. As Master Beru's bottom
hit the saddle, he touched his heels to the flanks of his steed. He bobbed to the
sides for a second before settling into the new strides of his mount. As he exited
the main gates, he touched his heels to the flanks again and the stallion broke into
a dead run.
Turning back to the room, Samresh wondered how much of his new information he
should share. Seeing a feeble smile on Gingnia, he decided he would have to wait.
He could not bear to see her cry again; especially so soon after she had been calmed.
He would wait until after the fights this time around. Hopefully another victory
would help her take the news better.
SPY REPORT
Hail and well met warriors of ARKERS! Know me for who I am, Zontani Sharp Eyes,
Spymaster extraordinaire of all Alastari. Former top team CHAMPIONS OF STEEL was
unseated this week as ACID FIRE HAMMERZ moved up from 5th ranking to take the top
spot with a 4-1-0 record for the round. There were bitter words at LA PENTARCHIE's
guildhouse after a 1-2-0 showing this week which dropped the stable into 10th. Dark
Arena anyone? Warriors--remember that glory waits always around the corner! Witness
how this week BLOOD RITES went 2-3-0 to move up 6 in the rankings. My praise to
YAKUZA for their 4-1-0 week this time out. Indeed, it was a skillfully fought round
deserving of notice! BURPS FIRE HAMMER caught the eye of many in the gladiatorial
commission as she skillfully bested ZINGER and was awarded 23 points in recognition.
In one of the week's more notable duels, ELIXIR put down MORE MOORE, causing him to
lose 16 points of recognition in the process. This time out LADY MACBETH made hers
bid for the throne as she challenged THUNDAR THE CRUEL in an all out contest of skill
for possession of the title! This time victory fell to the grasp of the usurper.
All hail LADY MACBETH, Duelmaster of ARKERS! Would you believe that over half of the
old women in ARKERS seem to feel that they could fight better than you gladiators?
But come now, let us look deeper into the maze of contention and crossed blades
that is city ARKERS. I saw one fighter that warriors avoided when this week's
challenge seeking began. SMITHSONIAN is feared. This much I can say. If you didn't
look down dark alleys you'd have been hard pressed to find any of LA PENTARCHIE last
week. Busy avoiding SMITHSONIAN? Loose talk at the arena has reached my ears and it
but confirms the knowledge that many fighters are after WARPATH. Watch your back!
What warrior does not hone his years, impatiently waiting for the moment of his
foe's mortality? Strange what qualities come forth in the face of certain doom.
KYLUN has the town astir with the news of his Dark Arena victory! My hearty
congratulations GINGNIA, for thy revenge upon DWARF FIRE HAMMER, slayer of thy fallen
comrade. Next time she will know better, eh? Dark alleys may hide both secrets and
assassins. In the arena there is only the brightness of steel. Keep vigil always!
The girls are as pretty in ARKERS as ever I remembered them....and the fighters
as ugly! Don't let your reputation slip! Sadly warriors, now longer can I keep thy
company nor savor the ale of thy fine city. Depart I must and soon! Till next we
meet remember: a fool flies into a rage quickly and often. The wise are angered by
the same thing only once. Zontani Sharp Eyes

Congratulations to Thundar of Northern Badlands, Duelmaster Of Arkers. -- Curator
Thundar -- I go in peace. Well fought. -- Helen Of Troy
Thundar The Cruel -- Well, I don't. I want that title. You are an usurper! Gimme,
gimme! -- Lady Macbeth
Alpha Omega -- Hang in there. Remember, feel free to e mail The Consortium Folk at
the e mail offered. -- Curator
Ghost of Holga Kobb -- This IS an Andorian arena. This is an honorable Andorian
arena. We do believe in Health. Humility. & Honor. Therefore, there should be no
puzzle nor ethics question. -- Curator
V. Baltimore -- That was a good match between a pair of us old vets. I merely lucked
out. Salute. -- Hammurabi
Morngrim -- Nothing personal, I just like your style. -- Swamp Fox
Tien -- I feel perfectly fine defeating you, especially after all those victories
your slasher sister took from us. (wink) -- Lady Macbeth
Skunk -- That was pretty much all I could take. The smell was getting to me. --
Zippety
Blackheart -- I enjoyed that finish. Did you? -- Zanzibar
Feodis -- A zinger a day keeps the doctor away--or something like that. -- Zinger
Bgaz -- Nope. Like warhammers. They're neat. And Smith's age good things. --

Thundar The Cruel -- Congrats on your title. -- The Z Man
All -- Sorry everyone , HAL has been getting the munchies these past few turns with

Curator -- And the competition shall always be nice. I learn so much watching you.
I seem to be getting a few more wins these days than in days of yore (haha). --
Blackstorm
Wretch -- Welcome to Arkers, remember Andorians always aim for the head and use 10
KD!! (wink) -- Blackstorm
P.S. Not really though. Well, not everyone, anyway!
Pentarque -- Nah the little battle is over. Besides we all have more pressing
matters.
Black Wind says he's sorry and he'll be good now. (grin) Like he has much of a
choice, heheh. Besides its not really my fault , a darn MU, but since it has
happened before I would have been disappointed if you didn't bang him up a bit.
(wink) -- Blackstorm
All -- Anyone else up for a little friendly with the "French Forces", in a purely
instructional and friendly way, besides it'll help me not to kill Pentarque's guys,
since I avoid him in such competitions. -- Blackstorm
Buried Treasure -- Yes you did good, you must be losing some close ones! -- Outlaw
Scavenger -- I told you that you had to check if the other guy was dead first, see
what happens. -- Black Wind
Michael Eldritch -- Well, I had to write this before viewing your diplo. I have
always considered you a good guy, and I do believe Toker does too, but I must warn
you, that the others may balk! You were willing to back our enemies last time and
seem to move from alliance to alliance. I WILL put in a good word for you, but I
can't promise anything, and I will be in touch, no worry. -- Blackstorm
P.S. What's this about lamb and goat chops? (hahaha)
Zaerna -- Yes girl, you should see the DE training facilities, not to mention casino,
taverns, stores and much, much more, and we get magic weap...whoops. -- Outlaw
Azaziel -- Welcome aboard, I couldn't wait for the diplo before writing this. Do not
worry, we have special armor for you, and even a choice between heavy or light!
You'll have to let me know what you need info-wise and I'll set you up. I do believe
I am to team up with you for the moment to follow your evolution. We're gonna have a
blast!! We may have an opening in the TW to replace Heathen if we can't find him.
Would you be able to mobilize for that if you can? -- Blackstorm
Nymira -- Well there was a too big gap in experience to cover for you, better luck. -
- Chaos Invader
Ghost of Holga Kobb -- Now that all depends on the Andorian in Question. There are
all sorts, while most still frown on the DC, some don't. I am a proud Andorian that
usually won't DC except by accident or BF, but I don't hide the fact that killing
doesn't bother me either. (grin) -- Blackstorm

Oniromancer -- I know I know I suck but I still won and that's all that matters. --
Blood Stain
Sun-Ne -- Well you dodged and you learned maybe next time you will win. --
Deathwalker
Warpath -- Seems like that fight was good for both of us. Of course only one of us
could win. -- Unholy Terror
Michael Eldritch and Azaziel--Got both of your diplos. Interesting situation we
have. lol. I've passed the proposition to the Dark Table for the others to add
their say, I cannot make decisions by myself, the DE has a vote system. I have
diplos on their way but my mail sucks, I'm far away. I will keep you both up to date
as I can. At the moment the DE is not at war with anyone, so we can all stay calm,
just the TW in 47 which is our main priority at the time. -- Blackstorm
Michael Eldritch and Azaziel -- Whew , this should be the third and final PA from me
this turn for you guys, I was scared I wouldn't be able to keep you informed before
the due date. I have GOOD news, after talking to Toker, we think both of you would
be welcome additions to the DE. Diplos on the way with more info I took it under my
responsibility, I hope you guys don't let me down. (wink) -- DK Blackstorm
Chaos Invader -- Me thinks I wasn't quite prepared for the likes of you, and that
luck had much to do with the outcome. Salute, and thank you for the offensive
lessons. -- Nythia
Despayre -- Hmm...that I will not. I believe I have isolated a key factor. Well
fought. -- Bgaz
Swamp Fox -- Ya didn't have to visit, we remember you just fine. *wince* -- Morngrym
Blood Stain -- A classic burnout... I salute your endurance. -- Oniromancer
Indior Landis -- I think I need to work on my endurance, and maybe my aim, too. come
to think of it, I'm not really cut out for this whole gladiator thing... -- Malborgia
III
Hammer -- When and where? I will most certainly take part in a Slow No Tourney
Arena. I know at least one other who has stated a desire for such as well. So, To
Whom It May Concern, Michael Eldritch is composing a stable (as yet to be named) for
placement in the Slow No Tourney Arena. I await the call. -- Michael Eldritch
Blackstorm -- I'm beginning to think you Dark Knights dislike me... -- Michael
Eldritch
Feordis Ink -- Stop by Eldritch Arms and Armor, I'll show you a few of my new moves.
-- Nythia
DWARF FIRE HAMMER -- STOP RUNNING AROUND SO I CAN SEND YOU TO THE ABYSS!! -- Gingnia
DWARF FIRE HAMMER -- Actually, you might want to keep putting on armor around that
girl... Scary what revenge can do... -- Master Beru
Aroura -- Alas, poor Scavenger... Well met. I will arrange a meeting with one of
our teammates to satisfy your debt to us. -- Master Beru
Dreya -- Thanks for your purchase. I assure you the emerald will suit you nicely and
no those accusations you heard are totally unfounded. -- Ruby Pendant
BGAZ -- Hmm... Well for the right customer... ;') -- Ruby Pendant
ALL -- To celebrate the season of love, Baubles, Inc. is hereby offering most
products at half-price (making things only about 300% overpriced.) Stop by today and
see what we can do for you. -- Ruby Pendant
Kerbin Notts -- So close... SO VERY CLOSE!! -- Buried Treasure
Bullfrog -- Boy, I'm glad you didn't croak. I hate it when frogs croak. That is my
Achilles sole... -- Diamond Miner
All -- Please welcome our new addition, Perky Pam. A word of warning, she was hired
primarily to help around the shop, but she is annoyingly cheerful. (At least it
annoys me...) -- Master Beru
All -- HI YA'LL!! I'm sooooooo glad to be here!! I just can't wait to become
bestest friends with ya'll!! -- Perky Pam
See what I mean? -- Master Beru
Zinger -- Zat iz ze zlowezt zing I have ever encountered. More of a zzzzinnnng! --
Feordis Ink, well and truly zinged none the less
Illmyrn Nailo -- (shakes head in bemusement) I don't know how you keep it together
like that. If death had chosen ME, I'd be worried, and I wouldn't go near sharp
pointy implements of destruction. -- Morg Potts
Buried Treasure -- What a delightful concept! Do you have a map? -- Kerbin Notts
Lin Minmei -- I guess it must be the werecat thing, and always landing on your feet.
I could NOT knock you down, and the gods know I TRIED. -- Imber Lack
P.S. I couldn't even bowl you over with my charm. Heck.
Malborgia Iii -- That's disturbing, that you're neuter and yet not a golem. Were
you, as they say (so wrongly, I feel) "fixed"? And if so, what were you before? --
Indior Landis, probably too curious for my own good, but there it is, I'm a werecat,
and curiosity is my middle name: Indior Curiosity Landis
Zanzibar -- (sadly) I'm attractive, cool, and courageous, but charisma is not in me,
alas. -- Kerbin Notts
P.S. Thanks for the chocolates, though.
Zip -- (shies back a little) The concept of so much mass "zipping" is, uh,
startling. -- Feordis Ink
Bgaz -- I should say NOT! Some authorities claim that exposure to bright light, if
from the sun, is important to health. You could be in real trouble. -- Morg Potts
Our congratulations to Thundar the Cruel and Helen of Troy. -- the Middle Way
The Aardvark -- Thought I was ready for the majors. I think I will stay in the
minors for a while. I'll be to see you again when I'm worthy. -- Sun-Pe
Deathwalker -- Thanks for that fine way of teaching me understanding. -- Sun-Ne
All -- Whoever sent me the diplo about joining this AOL Alliance, you forgot your
mgr. name and what team you are representing. Please diplo me again. I'm new, so
you're going to have to explain to me a little more before I sign the dotted line. --

The Council of Lords would like to propose a rule change in ADM and Primus. We
propose that Lord Protectors ranked "Grand Champions" and below (ADM) and "The Tower
Guard" and below (Primus) be allowed to fight in the Dark Arena. This would not
impact the top rankings or title match. Any managers who never got his fill or shot
at fighting Gateway monsters would have it as an option. We believe it might spark
some interest in the ADM/Primus realm for some managers. If interested, speak up in
the newsletters or on forums under the "rules changes" thread and let RSI know. This
could even be something to try for 12 months and then be re-evaluated. What say you,
managers of Ghea? -- The Icelord sends....

HDFA Mission Statement
"Show me the money!"
This is the battle cry of a newly formed collection of like-minded individuals:
The High Dolla' Free Agent$. We are not a tough guy alliance: No...we offer no
battle without reward. We search for victory and the prizes and accolades that
follow. We are motivated by winning and will freely use whatever means necessary to
obtain our currency. No stuffy rules, no mandates, no constitutions, no leaders,
only a few objectives:
1) Win as often as possible
2) Celebrate freely and revel in your victories; the more meaningless the
victory the more we celebrate. Highsiding and chest thumping are encouraged.
Ostentatious endzone celebrations with prop usage are encouraged, regardless of
fines, penalties, suspensions or arrest by local authorities. It is important to let
your opponent know how great you are; more importantly, you must let your own
alliance mates know how great you are.
This is a 1-up alliance, let the performance of your fellow Free Agent$ motivate
you. If a Free Agent wins a TV, win 2; if a Free agent wins a contest, win a more
prestigious one.
Current members of the HDFA include: CFH and Abraxis. Inquires can be directed
