Iaye:

Lenpro scanned the front page of the Andorian Star quickly and frowned. On his
lean and hawk-like face, the expression was intimidating. "I did not think it was a
good idea to allow that gadfly from the Star an interview," he said.
Senator Sedalia, not one to be intimidated, shook his head. "He struck just the
right note," the Lord Protector argued. "Concern but not suspicion or alarm--yet.
After all, there may be a reasonable explanation for the king's failure to act. We
have given them an opening to make that explanation." He leaned back in his chair
and propped his heels on footstool. Nowhere but at the Lenpro guildhouse was there a
chair so perfectly suited to him, and he intended to enjoy it while he could. All
too soon, he would be headed back for Andor and the Royal Palace. The rain drumming
on the roof did not make that an enticing prospect. Memory of the shiftyeyed clerks
and minor ministers he'd met on the last trip was also depressing.
"That insolent puppy of a reporter even quoted me!" Lenpro growled.
Sedalia picked up his own copy of the tabloid and scanned the short article
quickly.

          + ]H[ + ---:--- + ]H[ The Andorian Star #101 ]H[ + ---:--- + ]H[ +

Iaye:
In an interview yesterday, Senator Sedalia stated that he had gone to Andor with
the intention of requesting the King's aid for the coastal areas battered by the
dramatic and tempestuous waves resulting from the sinking of Krael.
"I and my colleagues felt that the devastation along the coast is properly a
matter for the King's attention," the senator and lord protector said. "We did not
go seeking a hand-out, but only a helping hand."
A spokesman at the Royal Palace, who declined to identify himself when queried
on Sedalia's visit, said that the matter had been "taken under advisement." No
further development of this position could be obtained in Andor.
Senator Sedalia's manager, Lenpro of Iaye, told this reporter that, "We will
pursue this matter."
Anyone with information that might be of assistance is invited to communicate
with the Andorian Star office.

"There is such a thing as bad publicity," the senator acknowledged, "even though
some people claim otherwise. But this is not it. Concerned and firm. All cats are
still in their bags."
Lenpro snorted laughter. "Have you ever tried to bag a cat and keep it there?
Word that we're up to something will be all over northwestern Alastari faster than
horses can gallop."
"I've often thought carrier pigeons should be roasted and eaten," Sedalia
agreed. "Besides, those rumors will work in our favor. Anyone who even thinks they
know something will be getting in touch."
"Tchh!" Lenpro stood suddenly. "Are you so much of a fool, Sedalia? The
Assassins' Guild has been dissolved--officially. But it has long been an arm of the
King of Andoria, and I do not believe that he--or whoever is behind him--has
dispensed with it now."
"As a Lord Protector--" Sedalia began.
"--You are subject to the whims of the Grey Witch," Lenpro finished. "There is
a strong possibility that she is involved in this business. Do you think that a Lord
Protector assassinated for prying into her business would be resurrected by her
magicians?"
Sedalia shifted uncomfortably. As a politician, conspiracy theories came
naturally to him, but to involve the premier magician in Alastari with one did
seem... risky. "There are powerful magicians who aren't on her payroll," he said.
"Fandil of Ardivent, Lady Adeolar of Aruak City, Master Cho--plenty of them. And,"
now Sedalia stood, as well, "I have been involved in politics for a lifetime and
survived it. I am no easy target for an assassin."
Lenpro was silent for several minutes, staring past his gladiator at the rain-
curtained window. Finally he sighed. "The time for caution and second thoughts has
passed," he admitted. "We have already begun, and the blades will fall where they
may. Be careful."

                             Notes from the arena champ.

Lord Byron, George Gordon Byron, 6th Baron; Byron Of Rochdale
George Gordon Byron, 6th Baron Byron (22 January 1788-19 April 1824), commonly known
as Lord Byron, was an English poet and a leading figure in Romanticism. Among Lord
Byron's best-known works are the narrative poems Childe Harold's Pilgrimage and Don
Juan. The latter remained incomplete on his death. He is regarded as one of the
greatest European poets and remains widely read and influential, both in the English
speaking world and beyond. Lord Byron's fame rests not only on his writings but also
on his life, which featured extravagant living, numerous love affairs, debts,
separation, allegations of homosexuality and martial exploits. He was famously
described by Lady Caroline Lamb as "mad, bad, and dangerous to know." Byron served
as a regional leader of Italy's revolutionary organization the Carbonari in its
struggle against Austria, and later traveled to fight against the Ottoman Empire in
the Greek War of Independence, for which Greeks revere him as a national hero. He
died from a febrile illness in Messolonghi. His daughter Ada Lovelace, notable in
her own right, collaborated with Charles Babbage on the analytical engine, a
predecessor to modern computers.

                                      SPY REPORT

Oh, hi. Its just little 'ol Debby Tonte. Thought I'd check out ARKERS to see
what's new. THE ANIMALS like really fought hard to move up to 2nd from 6th. Way to
go! MVP award for ONIROMANCER? PENUMBRAL MISTS' proud of her after beating WAR BOND
and getting 24 points. Talk about yer big time losers! WAR BOND got smashed by
ONIROMANCER, and lost 16 points! Like, CRIMSON MIST must be pretty gutsy! He
challenged the Duelmaster from SMITHSONIAN. Does this guy have a death wish or what!
This Duelmaster is like something else! LORD BYRON stopped CRIMSON MIST dead in his
tracks! Who was the wiseguy that said ARKERS' Duelmaster was paying for drinks at
The Welcome Wench? Don't look at me!
I gotta admit I haven't been in "deep con caves" with any spies. Really, I just
wing this stuff. BLOOD RITES was ARKERS' most avoided team. Is there some award for
that? I don't know what SMITHSONIAN's been doing. They certainly haven't been
accepting many fights from BLOOD RITES, that's fer sher. Like, is CRIMSON MIST
popular, or what? He was challenged the most in all of ARKERS! He's got a 12-5-1,
is that good? For sure, I was holding my breath when I found out UNHOLY TERROR
challenged IMBER LACK. After all, haven't BLOOD RITES and MIDDLE WAY 11 had a long
standing duel in ARKERS? It wasn't a spectacular fight, or anything, but IMBER LACK
wants me to write about it since he was overcame by UNHOLY TERROR. Satisfied?
What does a fighter fight for? I mean, the crowds don't give a hoot if someone
gets killed. Not after four more fights. Hey you guys, don't you think your
families would like to hear from you? Write! (Or have someone write for you.)
Remember, blood on a purple robe may stain. Soak it in cold water, and hand
wash. I gotta leave. ARKERS is like such a dump, and you guys smell too much! I
had a fun time, see you later-- Debby Tonte

Hey there Boiling Blood, your churning corpuscles do nothing to excite my synergy.
Nothing is good. -- Zilch

Har, har, Curator. You'll never catch me--not by the hair of my chinny-chin-chin.
Yes! -- The Z Man (gloating his better team record than the lowly Smithsonians)

Rock Glas Hut Fun -- I am really beginning to hate you but I have also finally
learned my lesson. Hope to never see you again. -- Unholy Terror

Hammurabi -- Interesting challenge. Are we on for the best three out of five now? --
Crimson Mist

Lord Byron -- Congrats on keeping the throne. I hope we will be meeting soon. --
Crimson Mist

Zilch -- Damn your desperation strategy. Good win. I am sure we will meet in the
future. -- Boiling Blood

Conundrum -- Damn you and your tourney self. -- Blood Stain

Zip -- A-Dee-Do-Dah. Isn't that the way it goes? I'm afraid I can't SING it, not
being terribly musical. But I do know the words. -- Feordis Ink

Lord Byron -- Oh, gods, man, you're way too energetic at this hour and season. Why
don't you go swim the Hellespont or something? -- Imber Lack
P.S. Always seemed like a dumb thing to me. That's what boats are for.

Aeryn Sun -- I was so excited to see any kind of a sun, I got carried away. But I'm
properly remorseful, so how about if you come shine on me? -- Morg Potts

Rabbit -- There is a certain satisfaction in that, and I'm not even Australian. --
Kerbin Notts
P.S. Though I do have a garden.

That was a Captured Orc? Isn't he a little, well, under-sized? The orcs of my
personal acquaintance tend to be big husky fellows. -- Indior Landis

Pearl Harbor -- Some people just can't resist pushing the pearl button. -- Imber Lack

Pearl Harbor -- Ignor that cad. I don't want to "push your buttons." I think we
should find a beach, a picnic basket, a sunset...and just enjoy. -- Morg Potts
