On the shores of a lake:

Senator Sedalia stared at the magicians with consternation and displeasure.
The magicians stared back, in much the same mood. The one who seemed to be in
charge repeated his statement of position. "We came here to summon lesser daemons to
deal with certain problems in Istoreth," he said. "You appeared in response to that
spell. Therefore you are the summoned daemons and must do our bidding."
"And what if we can't deal with your problems?" Sedalia asked. There might be
some value in passing through Istoreth--a city on the Skaithvarn Peninsula, as he
recalled--in the character of magical spirits. And some risks.
The chief magician scowled. "Then you are the wrong daemons and must be
dismissed out of hand." His scowl deepened, and he tapped his wand on the palm of
his other hand. "A task which I am prepared to undertake without delay, it that
should prove... necessary."
"Or any of us!" another mage added.
"Summoned daemons should not be so quarrelsome," a third said. His fingers were
twitching. Since he was the one standing by the altar holding the knife (the victim
appeared to have been a rabbit), this was not encouraging.
Sedalia was quiet for a moment, reviewing what facts he had, then nodded
sharply. "It appears to me that you and we have been the victims of a daemonic
prank. Just as you cast your spell, your net, as it were, into the immaterial world,
my comrade and I were attempting to escape the magical bounds of the Isle of the Eye.
And some mischievous daemon, seeing a way to escape the spell himself, guided us into
it in his place." The senator shrugged. "You have, in a way, done us a favor. So
we will, so far as we can, return that favor by attempting whatever it was you wanted
the daemon to do."
The mages all stared at him fixedly for several moments, then turned to their
leader, consulting with glances.
Behind him, Gissanniah pinched his arm. "You don't know what they might want,"
she said, keeping her voice low. "We aren't demons--"
"Freely granted," Sedalia said, "though some might argue that politicians do fall
into that category. But they weren't fishing for demons. 'Lesser daemons', minor
spirits of some kind. And we are ingenious and capable. We may be able to handle
whatever is afoot."
"The spell specified that certain abilities believed necessary would be present,
and you could not have been substituted if you did not have them," the chief mage
said. "Therefore, we will allow you the attempt." He gestured toward a grove of
trees farther along the shore, where a carriage could be glimpsed. "Let us be away
to Istoreth and put it to the test."

Well another win and another turn as DM has brought my time here to an end. I will
be visiting the friendly confines of the Dark Arena to see how my favorites work.
Not overly sure I am gonna like them but I am supposed to so I will give them a try.
May the next person to hold this place of honor enjoy it as much as I have. Luck to
you all. For death stalks this place and blood shall be spilled to take my place.

Unholy Terror

                                      SPY REPORT

Greetings warriors! It is I, Zontani Sharp Eyes, here to bring report of the
clash and bustle of the weekly ARKERS games. There were bitter words at PENUMBRAL
MISTS' guildhouse after a 0-0-0 showing this week which dropped the stable into 11th.
Dark Arena anyone? Warriors--remember that glory waits always around the corner!
Witness how this week SMITHSONIAN went 4-0-0 to move up 4 in the rankings. CHAOS
BLADE caught the eye of many in the gladiatorial commission as he skillfully bested
ALLEY CAT and was awarded 22 points in recognition. In one of the week's more
notable duels, CHAOS BLADE put down ALLEY CAT, causing him to lose 16 points of
recognition in the process. Most watched of the fights this week, the spotlight was
on SHEWISH GIANT as he bore arms against the Dark Arena Challenge of reigning
Duelmaster UNHOLY TERROR. Not for nothing has UNHOLY TERROR in the past laid claim
to the Duelmaster's throne, and this week he's proven his combat skill yet again.
Would you believe that over half of the old women in ARKERS seem to feel that they
could fight better than you gladiators?
Many and various are the arts of battle. In ARKERS "art" is a word that has
long since passed from the language! My inside sources tell me that the team to beat
in ARKERS these days is LADIES IN WAITING. At least, most blades in town are looking
to avoid them. If you didn't look down dark alleys you'd have been hard pressed to
find any of THE ANIMALS last week. Busy avoiding LADIES IN WAITING? Loose talk at
the arena has reached my ears and it but confirms the knowledge that many fighters
are after FEORDIS INK. Watch your back! I can not but mention with disdain the name
of CRIMSON MIST who this week posted a challenge to a warrior a full 15 points below
in the rankings. I thought CRIMSON MIST showed great skill and promise when he won
victory over IMBER LACK. All right, so I slept through it! Big deal!
Is not Death a warrior's foremost adviser? Warriors, may this counselor stand
ready at your right hand forever! UNHOLY TERROR has sworn to take up religion upon
living to tell of his recent bout with the Dark Arena horrors. A rare thing indeed!
Must the anguished spirit of LORD BYRON toss forever in the grave unrevenged?
Against the code, UNHOLY TERROR has escaped his deed unpunished by SMITHSONIAN! Some
say a warrior is judged by the way he bears arms. One thing is sure, better a dagger
in hand then a sword on the belt!
A thought before I go. Each warrior practices one style, but must not the wise
manager learn the secrets of them all? More than a sharp eye must I keep, indeed a
stout pair of legs must I keep as well! The endless paths of Alastari await me!
Till next we meet remember: a fool flies into a rage quickly and often. The wise
are angered by the same thing only once. Zontani Sharp Eyes

Morngrym -- I just really hate tps, so I put a little extra umph into my swings. --
Aeryn Svn

More Potts -- A flotation device? Will your lifeless corpse float? -- Aeryn Svn

Imber Lack -- It was More Potts that implied that it was possible that I could change
into one, not my manager. -- Aeryn Svn

Concussion -- Why does my head ache? -- Kerbin Notts, confused
P.S. Like there are a lot of little dwarves in there with hammers, trying to get
out. Really bad. And I'm sleepy, too.

Unholy Terror -- It is with pleasure that I note your graduation. You will be
missed, the same way an aching tooth would be missed. -- Imber Lack

Crimson Mist -- You mean...blood? Oh. I thought it was just one of those poetical
sunset things over a lake type of deal. -- Feordis Ink

Confidence -- I'd have it, too, if I was on some team with a magical benefactor. Was
it a prize or something, that everyone on your team is size 3? Honest question. --
Indior Landis

Aroura -- Lady, it's all wrong of your manger to call you a whale. BUT, bear in mind
that it wasn't ME that said it. Don't take it out on the innocent. -- Morg Potts

Zinger -- And yet, it is an interesting question, and one which we as gladiators are
uniquely situated to study. -- Imber Lack

Our congratulations to Unholy Terror. -- Jorja and the Middle Way

Santa Maria -- Grabby, aren't you? -- Fratsfa Mercenary

Zenith -- (shrug) Someone had to be. -- Virginal Concubime

Zilch -- You should feel bad. It is your duty to feel bad when defeating an honest
fellow like myself. -- Honest Merchant

Nythia -- Certainly. I will give you every break I can. Arms, legs, ribs, all of
them. -- Khalhums Dwarf

All -- Many of you know me and many more don't, but I will be scarce for a few
months. I am relocating, so look for my presence online! As my will, so mote it
be! -- Abraxis

                                 *TURF WAR VI RULES*
                            Starting Nov 2008 (10 turns)

Anyone may participate; known alliances, new alliances, or temporary alliances created solely to compete in the Turf War! To participate, each alliance must:
        1. Announce the alliance and the Captain of the alliance in the North Fork
            (DM 47) newsletter.
        2. Announcements made on the D2 Forums will not be accepted.

Captains are responsible for:
        1. Verifying those who wish to participate under the banner of their
            alliance;
        2. Distribution of prizes should their alliance win the Turf War.
        3. Submit one (1) RSI Roll-Up Certificate to participate

Participating managers who are not Captains must:
        1. Submit one (1) RSI Roll-Up Certificate to participate
        2. Announce their intent to compete with manager name, team name, and
alliance they will represent in the North Fork (DM 47) newsletter.
Announcement made on the D2 Forums will not be accepted.
               a. No scores will be tabulated until a Gift Certificate is received.
                   No EXCEPTIONS.
               b. Before a manager can compete, he/she must declare themselves in
the North Fork (DM 47) newsletter as stated above AND be verified
by the alliance Captain they will represent.
               c. Only one (1) team per player may compete. No multiple teams or
aliases will be allowed. Violations will result in immediate
disqualification from the Turf War (so be sure to take any
multiple teams OFF of Team Maintenance).
               d. Scoring will NOT be retroactive for teams that do not properly
declare or fail to send a Gift Certificate by Turn 1. In other
words, if your Gift Certificate is not received until Turn 3 of
the Turf War, and you have fought on Turns 1 and 2, your scoring
will not begin until Turn 3. All conditions must be met before
scoring will begin--declaration, verification, and Gift
                   Certificate received.
               e. No declarations or verifications will be accepted after Turn 5 of
                   the Turf War.
               f. For purposes of scoring, the moderators will score the Turf War
and settle any and all disputes as they arise. Their decisions
                   will be final.

Scoring will be as follows for Fights:
                Win Loss Kill Die
Challenge +2 -2 +5 -5
Match Up +1 -1 +1 -5
Bloodfeud +2 -5 +5 -10

Dark Arena* +10 -5 xx xx
*After 2nd win, warrior scores no points for wins

Special Scoring Considerations for the Turf War are as follows:
Spy Report mention (team name only) +2
Style Master +2
Duelmaster +2

Champions:
     1. A Champion may be declared, but one is not mandatory.
     2. Only one Champion allowed per manager at any given time.
     3. Champions that graduate or are killed by another warrior in the arena, but
not the Dark Arena, may be replaced.
     4. Champions must be in the Adepts bracket or lower on the turn they are
declared, and may NOT have gone above Adepts level at any time; this
includes teams transferred into North Fork for the Turf War.

Bloodfeuds:
        1. Bloodfeuds will score points on all four (4) turns.
        2. There is no limit to which warrior may bloodfeud or how often.

Tournament Considerations:
        1. Tournament participation is ALLOWED and encouraged.
        2. Tournament Victors won during the course of the contest will gain a one
            (1) time bonus of 25 points. This bonus will apply EACH time a
            warrior(s) wins such status.
        3. Tournament Champions won during the course of the contest will gain a one
            (1) time bonus of 50 points. This bonus will apply EACH time a
            warrior(s) win such status.
        4. Points for TVs and TCs will be applied the Turn after RSI posts
tournament results in the North Fork (DM 47) newsletter (i.e., if the
results post on North Fork turn 275, points will be credited on North
Fork turn 276 to the applicable teams).

Special Considerations:
        1. Each alliance begins the Turf War with zero (0) points.
        2. There will be NO alliance or team changes once the contest has begun. If
you begin the Turf War with Alliance A, you must end the Turf War with
Alliance A. If you begin the Turf War with Team A, you must end the Turf
            War with Team A.
        3. There will be a maximum of seven (7) teams allowed per alliance for the
            Turf War.
        4. The Dark Arena may be used on the first turn only, of every warrior,
            without penalty.

Prizes:
The Turf War is a "winner take all" contest. All prizes and 100% of the Gift
Certificates will be awarded to the Captain of the winning alliance. It is the
responsibility of the Captain to distribute Gift Certificates. Moderators will
submit a list of each manager on the winning alliance to RSI at the completion of the
contest for the non-Certificate prizes.

The following prizes have been secured from RSI:
        1.  Renaming of the North Fork (DM 47) arena;
        2. Renaming of Dark Arena Monsters (one for each manager in the winning
            alliance);
        3. Known Favorites for one warrior on each team of the winning alliance
(warrior must be ranked Initiate or above, must be alive, and must have
at least one arena fight to receive this award).
        4. +1 Skill bonus potion for each manager on the winning alliance. Bonus
potion must be applied to a living warrior from (DM 47)
        5. +1 Skill bonus potion (one) for each manager who fights in all 10 rounds
AND 45 fights of the Turf War. Bonus potion must be applied to a living

These awards will be listed by the Moderator for claiming from RSI (Lee) within 4
