Fratsfa:
Fandil started by simply opening his magical awareness, a sort of sixth sense,
to the city. This was not the most pleasant experience, because Fratsfa was a very
old city that had been steeping in magic of many kinds for centuries. The background
was a muck of bits and pieces of spells accumulated, pressed together by the addition
of more magic on top of it, deformed by that pressure and by age, uniting into
compound magical structures that no magician had ever visualized, almost breeding
with each other. Fratsfa had the highest incidence of spontaneous magical activity
of anyplace other than Chaos-contaminated ground such as the marshy plain near Delarq
Tor. And when it was happening without the guidance of even a deranged mind, you
didn't need the residual effect of Chaos Magic to twist the results into strange
forms. Some parts of the background magic here were alive.
Against this background, real, living, practicing magicians moved like thieves
in a crowd: sometimes you saw them, sometimes you didn't. Picking out possible
allies and enemies wasn't easy. Fandil snorted. If it was easy, they wouldn't need
him.
He began to sort and filter his impressions, and the first thing he discovered
was another magician, also scanning. Younger, though no child. Not a clear
signature, male, human, mixed motives. But strong, and even with mixed motives, he
might be willing to make himself useful--
A blast of energy like a portculis falling, like a guilotine. Like being hit in
the head with an axe, but not, Fandil decided as he picked himself up off the floor,
quite as bloody and final. What had happened was clear enough: some magician of
considerable power had broken the beginning of contact between Fandil and the young
mage before it had a chance to develop. Possibly had killed the young man, which
would be unfortunate.
The old mage extended his magical sense again, not as easily--even thinking hurt
at the moment. The magical background was seething, the Fratsfan magicians had
either gone into hiding or were doing the equivalent of standing on their doorsteps
shouting at each other. Not helpful. Well, looking back at the brief contact, it
was not Fandil's impression that the young man was HERE. Within fifty miles,
probably closer, but not right here in the city. North and west. Maybe in... Andor?
A hopeful thought, they could use a contact in the capital. He reached out--and came
up against a wall of magic. No contact with Andor was possible from here. He would
have to go closer physically if he wanted to pursue that connection. Or wait until
the arcanum cleared, this kind of barrier took amazing amounts of energy to sustain.
But he had a feeling, growing stronger by the moment, that they didn't have the
time to wait.

DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
Notes from the arena champ.
Greetings, Arkers...
Have to say that I'm delighted to have re-gained the Throne so quickly after
returning from our long hiatus. My thanks to Imber Lack for stepping aside so
politely and best wishes for your life of Immortality!
Here's looking forward to a great festive period for all; may next year bring all you
wish for....

SPY REPORT
Greetings, Warriors of ARKERS. Allow this humble servant Novgorodny Vir to give
you a respite from the fights in the form of this Spyreport. The boys at GENERALS
left the arena dejected, after being kicked out of the top spot by CONSANGUINEOUS.
Good show! Nothing works for a team like victory (How's that for a perceptive
observation?) as BONDAGE can attest... Z GLADIATORZ posted a nice gain, to come in
3rd. Everybody loves a winner... Duelmaster GOLDENEYE from BONDAGE is going for the
gold, as it challenged ORCISH IDIOMS' ROCK GLAS HUT FUN. Ooh, the excitement!
GOLDENEYE successfully staved off a grab for the roses by ROCK GLAS HUT FUN of ORCISH
IDIOMS. Does ARKERS have no one talented enough to dethrone it? So who was the
warrior seen charging into immovable walls and challenging dead trees? Someone's got
a basic problem...
So much to report, so little time! Like the noble eagle soaring amongst the
mountaintops, so stand the warriors of CONSANGUINEOUS, alone and unchallenged. The
warriors of CONSANGUINEOUS found their efforts at combat frustrated as BONDAGE
apparently had more important things to do than fight. If challenges were horses,
INDIOR LANDIS could open up a fast food joint! EMM challenged INDIOR LANDIS! Who
says BONDAGE are just a bunch of wimps! EMM of BONDAGE kept his wits as he defeated
INDIOR LANDIS.
The moving sword slashes, and having slashed, moves on... MORG POTTS of MIDDLE
WAY 11, possessing a sorry record of 15-24-0, lost his last battle to QUEUE of
BONDAGE. Young warriors, take note! Such is a failure's lot! Oh hard! that to
strike a flame, the match itself must needs be wasting!
All good things must come to an end. As if buffeted by forces of nature beyond
my control, I must take my leave of this place. Can anything compare to the pleasure
of writing Spyreports for ARKERS? On that giddy note I take my leave-- Novgorodny
Vir

Slugbait -- Congrats to Rock Glas Hut Fun, a well-earned immortal. (Finally.) --
Curator
Also congrats to Concussion for a fine tournament. Your TV brings acclaim to Arkers.
Salute! -- Curator
Albrect Wulfe -- What were you doing here. Were you fighting for the Mexicans?
Well, take that, then! -- Alamo (Remember The)
Blood Stain -- Him slow, but him win. Ug. -- Geronimo
P.S. It is rumored that Geronimo did not want to get any substance on his
countenance.
Concussion -- I had thought I had heard enough of those on Dec 7. My head hurts.
Salute. -- Pearl Harbor
Confession -- Humpf! I am using Reconciliation instead! -- War Bond
Feordis -- Warm? You weren't suggesting Hell, were you? -- Santa Maria (Ghost Ship)
Downtime -- Welcome to you and Heaven's Shadow. May your stay be long and
prosperous. -- Curator, Smithsonian
Goldeneye -- You make a fine Duelmaster. Salute. -- Curator and The Smithsonians
The Animals -- Great point gain! We're jealous! -- The Smithsonians
Esau Hardgrave and Heaven's Shadow -- I did not appreciate your killing my newest,
Zealot and putting her in a hard grave. You dogs! You dirty, rotten, winning
killers! And the babe was a 9-15-11-17-9-10-13 Ripper, who was probably blessed out
the wazoo! (Haven't seen the info yet.) Pshaw! Shucks! Dang! Ouch! -- The Z Man
Meade -- The General didn't get zilch. -- Zilch
Consternation -- You did not let me reach my epitome. You Cad! -- Zenith
Feordis -- Well, take that zinger, even though I would rather give it to someone
else. -- Zinger
Rock Glas Hut Fun -- Yu da man! -- The Z Man
Goldeneyes -- My team lusts for that Duelmaster position you have, but we give you
great credit for having it. Salute. -- The Z Man, Z Gladiators
Downtime -- What? Newcomers? Well, come on down! Welcome. -- The Z Man
Heaven's Shadow -- While I want vengeance to Esau Bloodgrave for Zealot, to do so,
even with my lowest Zilch, would be a massive experience and recognition point
downchallenge, quite possibly leading to the death of what appears to be a fine
Aimer. I cannot bring myself to do it. Good luck to your newby team. -- The Z Man
Z Man -- Your warrior fought well, and very nearly defeated me. Yet, it is in the
nature of a Zealot to die for the cause. -- Esau Hardgrave
So, do I need to start paying rent on the basement, or what? My team seems to have
taken it over. -- Downtime, mgr. Heaven's Shadow (who are all getting DA'd if they
don't start to deliver, the bums)
Caesar -- Guess I got the short end of that deal. -- Jos Gatecrasher
Alamo -- Geez, you beat up my brother worse than I do! -- Ayannah Wulf
Curator -- You may covet my record; but without another win or two it could still all
be for naught... -- Goldeneye
Downtime -- Welcome to Arkers...an interesting start for you, though with a 50% kill
to win ratio you may find many people avoid you... -- Spawn (mngr. Bondage)
Boiling Blood -- Congrats, I just couldn't stomach the smell of you I don't think. --
Queue
Indior Landis -- Well done... it seems 6 minutes is all I can manage at the moment...
-- Pussy G
Morg Potts -- Touche'; though you didn't seem to like getting what you were giving...
-- Emm
Jackson -- I liked the start of that one.... and that was about all... Time for a
strategy re-think I think! -- Rosa K
Zinger -- Ow! That stings, boy. -- Feordis Ink the cold and tired
P.S. Listen, I'm COUNTING on not being able to kill a houseplant. I'm actually
trying to keep it ALIVE.
Goldeneye -- It's all yours. -- Imber Lack
P.S. Good name.
Pussy Galore -- You excite me, little woman. -- Indior Landis
P.S. Probably you didn't mean to excite me gladiatorially, but there it is.
Emm -- You darn cats! You just don't like us orcs, do you? -- Morg Potts
P.S. Is it because we've got bigger...fangs?
Confidence -- I could sure use some. -- Kerbin Notts, not building confidence this
way
Did we congratulation Crimson Mist last time? If not, we do so now, and also Rock
Glas Hut Fun. -- Jorja and the Middle Way
A salute to all who entered the tourney, with congratulations for Concussion, Tourney
