                                    TEAM SPOTLIGHT

It was a bright sunny day in Arkers when there was a knock on the door of the
Chosen's guild house. Always full of energy, Shikari bolted to the door and to
answer it. The visitor outside could hear 'I got it! I got it!' and the sound of
shoes against a wooden floor. There was the sound of locks being turned and then the
door opened.
"Hello, sir. How may I help you?" Shikari asked. The day's cold winter air
washed over her as she stood in the door way. She had a big smile on her face and
one of her dark curls hung just over her left eye. Many would think that she was
such a cute child; her youthful look hiding the secret that she was actually in her
early twenties. Actually, she was only freshly out of her teens. But she was an
adult. No matter how you looked at it.
"I am not a 'sir', you twit." The person said in a huff. She then pushed
Shikari to the side and walked into the guild house. To be fair, the woman was a
little masculine looking. She wore black pants that clung to her narrow hips. The
blue pull over shirt was also tight and succeeded in showing off her small chest.
Her hair was as dark as Shikari's, but it was straight and long. The woman wore it
in a ponytail. Her jaw was broad. It gave her a square look to her face. If it was
on a man, it would have been handsome. But on this woman it seemed odd. The
intrusive woman's nose didn't have the pixie look that Shikari had. It was long and
hooked. It made her look a bit like a witch who was ready to cast a spell on some
poor princess in a fairy tale. She dropped her duffle bag to the ground with a thump
and looked around the greeting area. The woman held a piece of paper in her right
hand. "I think this will do." She said with her fist on her hips. The piece of
paper was now crumpled in her fist.
"Oooooooooooooceeeeeeeeeean!" Shikari shouted at the top of her lungs.
Ocean did not answer but Lionik came running out of the kitchen with a half-
eaten sandwich in his hand. "What in the hell are you yelling about Shikari?" Lionik
asked. He still had a bite of the sandwich in his mouth. The lanky man quickly
swallowed and asked, "Who is he?"
     "She." Shikari corrected.
"Oh..." Lionik said. A bit of red rushing to his cheeks.
The intruder looked at him with a glare that could freeze flame. "You're a dumb
lot, aren't ya? Not to mention you have the manners of a goat. Where are the
refreshments?" She look over at Shikari, "Don't guys like you offer up a pot of tea
and those little cookies? I honestly hate tea. But if you have some strong coffee,
that'll hit the spot."
She then looked over at Lionik, "I surely hope you aren't planning to give me
that half eaten sandwich as a courtesy."
Lionik guiltily looks at her sandwich in his hand. Of course he wasn't going to
offer it to her. But he looked like a complete buffoon standing there with it in his
hand. He then put the offending bit of food behind his back.
Just then, Ocean walked through the door that was left open. Ocean had on her
long winter's coat and was sweating profusely. The tell-tell signs of carrying a
heavy burden. She had a bag in her arms and a full backpack. It looked as if she
had been out buying food and other supplies for the stable.
"Who is our guest?" She said not missing a beat.
The woman turned to face Ocean. She stalked over, her brown boots clunking
against the wooden floor, and thrust a hand out to Ocean. Ocean grasp her hand and
the woman shook it vigorously. She had a big smile on her broad face. "The Name is
Ria. I hear you are looking for a member of your stable." She thrust the paper out
to show Ocean.
"Well, I am not in charge. You want to talk to Porta. He is out right now so
maybe you should come ba..."
"Great!", Ria interrupted "I will talk to him when he returns. Where is my
room?" She clunked her way over to the stairs and looked up. "I take it that the
rooms are up here. Great! I will head up and get unpacked." She then clunked her
way back to her duffle bag. "Don't worry about helping, Buttons. I got this." She
then slapped Lionik on the butt and picked up her bag. The warrior could only stand
there looking confused. Ria took the steps two at a time and could be heard walking
down the hall overhead.
"Which one is my room?" She shouted down.
"Second to the right!' Shikari yelled back to her.
Lionik and Ocean looked at her as if she had completely lost her mind. Shikari
mumbled 'Sorry' under her breath and looked at the floor.
"Thanks, Twit!" The clunking continued down the hall followed by the sound of a
door being slammed.
"Porta is going to love this." Lionik said. He still had the half-eaten
sandwich in his hand.
"He sure will... Buttons." Ocean said with a smirk.

                                 DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
                             Notes from the arena champ.

Hahahahahahaha... **sings** Where do I begin? That was pure comedic gold,
Fielder. No, seriously. It was funny. I love the way you jumped around. It almost
looked as if you knew what you were doing. I bet your little brain was over heating
thinking "If I jump over here, Ill get him. No? If I move over here, I will get
him. No? Okay. I will stand still and get him. No?" I really enjoyed delivering
that pummeling to you. I think your stable should change its name to 'I Pay you
Win'. How in the hell did you go seven rounds undefeated? Oh yeah, that right. You
are a fighter in Arkers.
And speaking of Arkers; I was heading to our kitchen to get breakfast this
morning. That is when I see some drunken ruffian relieving himself against the side
of our guild house. Imagine his surprise when I came up behind him and hit him in
his head with a pot. The town guard threatened to put me in the stockade for
'assaulting' the poor man. They said he was mentally 'touched'. I say he was drunk
and I am sticking to it. The lout. If I see him around our stable's house again, I
will give him another thrashing. I said as much to the city guard. But, since they
are from this city, I said it slowly and only used one syllable words.
I am curious. What is the proper name for you lot? Are you Arkerians?
Arkerites? Hicks? Yes, I think I like that last one. Hicks it is!

All glory to Seam!

                                      SPY REPORT

If you were disturbed from your beauty rest only to have to watch a bunch of
ARKERS brutes like you, you'd be grouchy, too. Now let's all watch YOU PAY I SLAY's
heads swell from their 3-1-0 this turn. Haa ha ha ha! Big shots, big talk, big
deal. I can just hear all the boasts coming in PEASANT REBELLION's next personal
ads. Their first turn they went 4-1-0. Of course, we're all terribly impressed to
see CLYDE D'CLUB win a fight and gain 17 points, terribly. Tsk, tsk, CLYDE D'CLUB
beat OCEAN SIZE and OCEAN SIZE lost 12 points. You're breakin' my heart. And it's
out with the old, in with the new, as PENNY takes the Title and last week's bar tab
from the old Duelmaster. Heh, heh. The Dripping Blade, humph! I've tasted better
ale at mortuaries. Where do they get this stuff? From ARKERS' trash dumps?
My mother always told me, 'If you don't have anything nice to say, start
talking.' I loved that woman. ARKERS, I am losing what little hope I had in you.
STAR HUNTER the most avoided team? What insult will suffice, I cannot say. And it
looks like THE CHOSEN avoided them the most this turn. What a pack of would be
losers, if you ask me. Hmph.
Some people like volunteer work in the hospitals. I volunteer for ARKERS'
morgue. More variety. Now hey, I like to see a death as much as the next guy, but
hey YOU PAY I SLAY, whyja send LUCKY to the Dark Arena, look at its record, huh?
Honor is like a chainmail shirt, it only shines through use. Certain nameless
cowards will doubtless rebuke me on this one.
There's got to be a better place in ARKERS to get a drink than The Dripping
Blade! Any suggestions? Well, I've had enough of this drivel, and I'm sure you have
too. Off like a dirty shirt of padded leather. Paste this one in your scrapbooks,
you'll need the kindling come this winter-- Snide Clemens
