A turn as dismal as the last was nothing to be proud of. This turned into day three of everyone beating themselves up over the losses. The only member who was happy with their performance was Shikari. She had finally broken her losing streak and was hoping to finally prove her worth to her teammates. When she first applied to the stable, Longshot turned her away. He didn't feel that she was strong enough to make a difference in a fight. He still thinks she needs more work, but he sees a spirit that he hasn't seen in a warrior in a long time. For now, she has a place. The main room of the guild house had four of the five members sitting around. Shikari sat in a chair so huge it looked like it was swallowing her. It was originally built for Sturm the Brute. The bearded man was too big for normal chairs. So, he had one specially made. When he left for the Isle, he left the chair behind for other members who might be of his girth and stature. On the sofa directly across from Shikari sat Ria and Lionik. They sat on opposite ends of the sofa. If body language was a tell-all, theirs would let any stranger know that they abhorred each other. They even went as far as leaning away from each other as well. Ocean sat in the chair next to Shikari. A table with a tea service sat between the two. "Where is Porta?" Shikari asked. She never liked having the room too silent. "He is in his room. He is in a worse mood than any of us. He didn't take the loss well." Ria sat up straight from her leaning position on the sofa. "Upset? That little dandy has the nerve to sulk and pout after a loss? You've heard the rumors around the practice yard. That team is a bunch of tourney babies. One of them is rumored to have three tourney champion titles under his belt. Porta was out classed." Lionik looked over at the loud abrasive woman. His eyes shot daggers at her. Lionik's opinion, and he has shared it with Ocean on several occasions in private, was that Ria was a clueless, classless bully. "You do realize that Port went ten rounds in his first tourney. He didn't get a TC or a TV but making all ten rounds is still impressive." "Yeah. But that was almost two decades ago. He is old." "And you are thick... in the head." Lionik replied. The last bit was added to make sure she understood his insult. "Not as thick as you. We could hear Leland's blade thumping that melon on your shoulders all the way to the medical room. It must have hurt like the dickens." Lionik sighed. "Besides, I am the one who should be embarrassed. I lost to someone in a stable called the Pheasant Rebellion." "Oh come on!" Lionik shouted, "The name of the stable is Peasant Rebellion. How do you manage to keep screwing it up?" "Why are you yelling at me? It's not like I beat you up... Buttons." With a grunt of frustration, Lionik slammed his fist into the armrest on his side of the sofa and stormed out of the room. "What is his problem?" Ria asked. She looked at Ocean with what probably passed for an innocent look to her. "You're the problem." Ocean replied. "Don't get me wrong. I think you giving it to Lionik is hilarious. But you need to take a break. You've been here for six weeks and you have been riding him every chance you get. Longshot will be back from Morya today. It would be great if he didn't see his team at each other's throats." The room temperature suddenly dropped a few degrees. "I didn't know everyone was so sensitive around here." Ria then gets up off the sofa and walks out. The front door to the guild house was slammed hard enough to make the windows rattle when she made her exit. And then there were two. Shikari looked over at Ocean but she was in her own thoughts. Shikari knew that Ocean was feeling guilty for what she said to Ria. But it was true. Ever since her arrival, Ria has been relentlessly teasing Lionik. But that was Ria. She was a bit abrasive, but Shikari could tell that she really didn't mean what she said. "I think I am going to the bakery," Shikari said breaking the silence again. "I will get Mr. Longshot some of those rolls he likes. Maybe I will get Porta some cookies. Maybe that will cheer him up." Ocean laughed at Shikari's naivety. As if cookies would soothe the battered ego of Porta. Especially after the way the locals treated him. Ocean never told any of her teammates. But she witnessed the backlash first hand a few days ago. Ocean was heading back to the guild house after practice when she saw Porta was out for a walk. She was about to call his name when a child's ball hit him on the shoulder. In a fit of rage, Porta picked up the ball and jabbed holes in it with his dagger. The child, who the ball belonged to, saw what happened and began to cry. The adults also saw what had happened and they got angry. Gladiator or not, future Lord Protector or not, they were having none of that behavior. First came the shouting and then the throwing. A full tomato splattered across Porta's face. In true form, Porta started insulting the people and daring the culprit to show his face. A half-eaten apple was the reply as it struck him in the chest. Porta isn't as big of an idiot as he acts. He knew he was in trouble, so he turned to leave. Good thing he did because someone hurled a stone at his head. It hit him on the temple. A few inches and it would have gotten him in the eye. The hit caused Porta to stumble a bit. That stumble turned into a run as five men chased him down the street. Ocean, in hopes of getting to the guild house before Porta and his pursuers, took the back alleys. Despite being faster and taking a short cut. She rounded a corner just in time to see Porta standing at the back door of the guild house. He had lost his pursuers and was just standing there. His head hung low and his shoulders were sagging. He took one big breath, composed himself, and walked in. It was obvious that he was doing it in case someone was around to see him. That was three days ago. Porta had been in his room ever since. The only time he came out was to use the washroom and to get food after he thought everyone was asleep. "Okay, little one. But hurry back. Longshot should arrive within the hour. He'll want to talk to us and meet Ria." Shikari nodded and took off out the door. Ocean smiled at the sound of her feet running down the steps. Shikari had no business being a gladiator. She was too kind for that career. She still had her innocence. If she continued this career, that innocence would be shattered and there is no telling what would take its place. Ocean must have fallen asleep in the big chair because the next thing she knew Shikari was shouting, "He's here. He's here." Ocean quickly tried to shake off sleep and compose herself. The still drowsy warrior waddled to the door and greeted Longshot. "How was your trip?" She asked wiping sleep from her eyes. "Here, Mr. Longshot. These rolls are for you. I will take Porta's cookies to him." Shikari said. She them bolted up the stairs. "Cookies?" Longshot had a bemused look on his face. "Yeah. She thinks it will make Porta feel better after that major loss." "Yeah. I heard he took a beating." "That is an understatement. He's been in a funk ever since it happened. I hope he doesn't do something severe to Shikari..." "AAAAIIIIEEEEE!" could be heard upstairs and then a thump. Ocean and Longshot looked at each other. "You don't think he would..." Ocean could only shrug. They both bolted up the stairs. Ocean led the way. Once they reached the top, they saw Shikari standing in front of Lionik's room. The door was opened and Shikari stood there in shock. "I didn't know...banging noise...Fighting...I thought...I didn't know." Longshot and Ocean looked into the room to see what cause the young girl to scream. They both became just as shocked as the young girl. "That is the hairiest woman I have ever seen." Longshot said. "At least it is all in one place." Ocean replied with a slight tilt to her head. Porta came walking to see what all of the commotion was about. "What in the hell is all of this noi...urk." He quickly turned around and ran for the washroom with his hand covering his mouth. The sound of his stomach contents could be heard splashing into the toilet. "Oh, stop it, Porta! You act like you've never seen a woman's body before." Ria shouted. Lionik was gathering the covers of his bed to cover his groin. He stood furthest to the back of the room. His shoulders were hunched over and his face was the color of a beet. Ria, still as bare as the day she was born, turned to Longshot and extended her hand to shake. Longshot pulled his hands back. "Let's give you two time to clean up. We'll be waiting downstairs." He then turned and headed down the stairs. Ocean was at his side. "Ria?" he mumbled. Ocean could only close her eyes and nod. * }%|[-----+O+-----]|%{ * }%|[-----+O+-----]|%{ * }%|[-----+O+-----]|%{ * ---===SLOW ARENA NEWS===--- Duelmasters ----------- DM 8 ARKERS (turn 358): PENNY of YOU PAY I SLAY (Khisanth, mgr.) So bring me ale and harken to my tidbits of news. It seems the training can make the difference, as MIDDLE WAY 11 is pushed out of top team by PEASANT REBELLION, who came from 4th with a 3-0-0 this turn. Now keep the taverns open late tonight, for there are sorrows to drown for MIDDLE WAY 11, whose 1-3-0 this turn dropped them by 5 into 6th. STEEL PROPHETS stable has parlayed this turn's 4-1-0 into a 4 space move up the rankings. This brings them up to 2nd place. Good work, guys! The PEASANT REBELLION guild has had a 3-0-0 turn and deserves to be watched in the future. You never know where this kind of thing can lead. And let's see, PITCHFORK KID fought SILENT ONE and gained 18 points and contributed to PEASANT REBELLION's 3-0-0. FIELDER has lost to KOTTER NAHL, falling 11 points, while helping make YOU PAY I SLAY a 2-1-0 turn. Due to hers absence and inability to defend the throne, PENNY has lost the title of Duelmaster. And not without some honor, IMA SLAYER now claims the title and throne of Duelmaster of ARKERS. Can someone confirm a rumor for me? I hear the top team makes their losing fighters do dishes at The Warty Toad until they win. Maybe? Oriental wise man once say, 'Hiding behind shields prevents proper sun tanning.' Inscrutable, but true. THE CHOSEN has cause to stand tall, as they were ARKERS' most avoided team. A smart manager knows this is a team to beat. And guess who avoided THE CHOSEN stable the most? Believe it or not, it was STEEL PROPHETS. Anyone surprised? The most challenged warrior this turn was STAR HUNTER's warrior SILENT ONE. More fighters challenged him than challenged the Duelmaster! We only live a short time in this world, so why not take a sharp blade, and shave it close? A brave warrior does not carry a red shield, he has nothing to cover or hide when the fight is over. Consider well. Thought for the day, a new sword shines bright, but the notched sword sings the sweetest. It's been nice chatting with you, until we meet again, keep your swords sharp and your hammers heavy. Until you see my quill in ARKERS again, farewell-- Alarond the Scribe DUELMASTER W L K POINTS TEAM NAME IMA SLAYER 5271 12 3 1 98 YOU PAY I SLAY (373) CHALLENGER CHAMPIONS W L K POINTS TEAM NAME -PENNY 5261 7 4 0 91 YOU PAY I SLAY (373) CHAMPIONS W L K POINTS TEAM NAME KOTTER NAHL 5197 10 38 0 89 MIDDLE WAY 11 (546) -URA GONER 5214 5 1 0 84 YOU PAY I SLAY (373) PORT-A-FORTRESS 5355 13 3 0 77 THE CHOSEN (613) FIELDER 5276 8 2 1 71 YOU PAY I SLAY (373) CHALLENGER ADEPTS W L K POINTS TEAM NAME LELAND OLVEN 5262 13 12 1 64 MIDDLE WAY 11 (546) IMERTA LOEL 5225 11 29 0 62 MIDDLE WAY 11 (546) LIONIK 5352 8 8 0 62 THE CHOSEN (613) ADEPTS W L K POINTS TEAM NAME SHIELD WALL 5253 8 3 0 39 STAR HUNTER (603) CHALLENGER INITIATES W L K POINTS TEAM NAME ORVILLE ROUSE 5322 5 7 0 28 MIDDLE WAY 11 (546) PITCHFORK KID 5377 2 0 0 25 PEASANT REBELLION (614) INITIATES W L K POINTS TEAM NAME -BRIDGETT TRUE 5331 1 0 0 21 ASGARD (610) SILENT ONE 5254 5 4 0 19 STAR HUNTER (603) OCEAN SIZE 5346 3 3 0 19 THE CHOSEN (613) DINGO MCGEE 5384 2 0 0 18 STEEL PROPHETS (615) TORCHBEARER TOM 5380 2 0 0 17 PEASANT REBELLION (614) -CLYDE D'CLUB 5376 1 0 0 17 PEASANT REBELLION (614) -SLIVER FAINT 5329 1 0 0 17 ASGARD (610) SWEET REVENGE 5378 2 0 0 16 PEASANT REBELLION (614) GLADIATOR 5397 1 0 1 14 BELTAZARS SETT (617) HAROLD OF DUME 5386 1 1 0 11 STEEL PROPHETS (615) SHIKARI 5345 1 4 0 7 THE CHOSEN (613) TARCICIUS VINC 5383 1 1 0 7 STEEL PROPHETS (615) -PUGACHEV 5379 0 1 0 7 PEASANT REBELLION (614) MAX MURDERER 5398 1 0 0 6 YOU PAY I SLAY (373) CRUSHER 5251 1 3 0 6 STAR HUNTER (603) PAIN MAGNET 5382 1 0 0 5 STEEL PROPHETS (615) BLUE FLAK 5385 1 1 0 4 STEEL PROPHETS (615) RIA THE CARESSER 5387 0 2 0 2 THE CHOSEN (613) INITIATES W L K POINTS TEAM NAME -LITTLE LADY 5255 0 1 0 1 STAR HUNTER (603) BLADEHUNTER 5395 0 1 0 1 BELTAZARS SETT (617) -LARGE LADY 5252 0 1 0 1 STAR HUNTER (603) BLADESLAYER 5393 0 1 0 1 BELTAZARS SETT (617) BLOODBATH 5394 0 1 0 1 BELTAZARS SETT (617) -SUE ROCK 5332 0 1 0 1 ASGARD (610) THOR WARRIOR 5396 0 1 0 1 BELTAZARS SETT (617) '-' denotes a warrior who did not fight this turn.
