TEAM SPOTLIGHT
"Ya basterd!"
Once again, Eadskar Da Bad's fist crashed into the face of Gutsag Bakwort. The
obese orc stumbled to the cold packed earth of the clearing near Arkers. This bit of
discipline was also part of the clan's code of honour. But this was always taken
care of far from prying eyes. The servants didn't need to see orc on orc aggression.
It also cut down on the local authorities butting in and enforcing their laws, man's
law, on orcs settling a dispute.
Gutsag slowly crawled back to his feet. It wasn't something he relished because
as soon as he was on his feet, Eadskar would knock him down again. Eadskar was a
monster. Not the monster title slapped on them by other races. But the cruel leader
of their stable could be the biggest son of a bitch on two legs when the mood struck
him. A simple questioning of the servants could tell you that. That is, if you
could find one who wasn't afraid of the repercussions.
Stonewall stood off to the side with his fist clinched and crying. Big tears
flowed from his red rimmed eyes and she kept saying over and over 'Stop fighting!
Stop fighting!' But neither listened. As soon as Gutsag was up, Eadskar's booted
foot came and hit him in the crotch. Gutsag doubled over; a throbbing fire running
from his groin to his abdomen. Gutsag fought to stay conscious as he weaved back and
forth. Eadskar, sensing that his stable mate was done, brought his knee up and into
Gutsag's face. This caused the battered orc head to snap back and for him to fall
backwards onto the ground again.
"Git up, Gutsy."
Despite the malice and the unspoken promise of more pain, Gutsag wanted to
stand. He wanted that more than anything. Lying on the ground made him too
vulnerable. If he just lay there, Eadskar would most likely run over and begin
stomping him in the face. That could lead to death. As far as Gutsag was concerned,
this wasn't the day for him to die.
"I sed git up, Gutsy!" Eadskar made a step towards the prone orc. "Last
chance, Gutsy. Git up or ya gitz da stompin'." Eadskar was moving faster now.
Gutsag knew that any moment, a boot would come crashing down into his face.
Despite his bulk, Gutsag was back on his feet and had his fist clenched. Eadskar saw
that Gutsag was up and he was defiant. He stopped his charge and stood face to face
with his battered stablemate.
"Wat ya gonna do wit dat?" Eadskar pointed to the clenched fist.
"Ima smash ya in da gob if'n you hit me agin."
"Wat?!?!?!"
"Ya 'eard me. I deserve dis beatin' 'cause I tricked ya and stole ya glory.
But yoos takin' extra joy in da beatin'. It izn't 'bout me wrongin' ya. I took
sumthin' more from ya."
Gutsag turned to face the others. "Ded, Mosh, do ya wanna know why da boss is
angry at ya pal Gutsy?"
The two didn't want to get involved. But Ded couldn't help himself. He was the
newest member of the stable, so he didn't know what would happen if Eadskar took a
notion to beating him.
"Da boss lost it. When we buried Beckah, I saw it in his eyes. He was goin'
ta fight Starr. But he didn't wanna win. He was goin ta let Starr kill 'im too."
Gutsag turned back to face Eadskar. "Tell uz I'ma lie."
Without throwing a punch, Gutsag had just smacked Eadskar harder than any
opponent. The leader of the Bloody Hand Clan could only breathe heavily and grind
his teeth. There was only silence. Even Stonewall stopped crying.
"Boss. I lied. I tricked ya. I deserved da punishment. But ya was suicidal.
None uv us blamez ya. Ya wuz grievin'. Yoos our leada. We need ya. "
"Ya screwed me, Gutsy. Dis show makes it two times. Der will neva be a third.
It will take a long time for me ta fergiv ya. Yoos betta stay clear uv me.
Stablemates be damned."
Eadskar turned and walked away leaving the rest of the team behind.
DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
Notes from the arena champ.
Praise be to Mantor! Third times the charm and I am on my way to the Isle. Did
I want it to happen quickly? Yes. Of course I did. Was I surprised that it
happened so fast. Yes, yes, I was. But I have to give it to Blue Flak. He was a
tenacious fighter. That was an ugly win. It does not deserve to be bragged about.
I hated winning like that and any other time, I would have heckled someone beating me
like that. You are not the hardest hitter I have fought. That tile still goes to
Cyclotubulous. But you are in the top five. I would love to see you or Dingo up
here with the title. Maybe Arkers will very soon.
Curator, could you do me a favour and send apologies from the Chosen to
Kennelworth. Sturm the Brute is a bit rough around the edges, but he means well. As
a matter of fact, I think he is sending a personal apology to Kennelworth as well.
As far as challenges go, I am giving both to Kotter Nahl. I am challenging Kotter
because I feel I can learn from that grizzled veteran. It's up to you to help me get
my advanced master. Don't let me down.

Good day, friends and fiends, welcome to your friendly neighborhood spyreport.
I doubt ARKERS will ever be the same. It seems the training can make the difference,
as THE CHOSEN is pushed out of top team by BORN LOSERS, who came from 2nd with a
5-0-1 this turn. ROUGH RIDERS stable has parlayed this turn's 2-0-1 into a 5 space
move up the rankings. This brings them up to 6th place. Good work, guys! The STEEL
PROPHETS guild has had a 3-1-0 turn and deserves to be watched in the future. You
never know where this kind of thing can lead. And let's see, CUTTER CRITES fought
PAIN MAGNET and gained 36 points and contributed to BORN LOSERS' 5-0-1. HUMBLE LEE
has lost to HALIN STORMBREAKER, falling 5 points, while helping make SERIOUS LEE a
1-4-0 turn. And not without some honor, HYPPOMATOS now claims the title and throne
of Duelmaster of ARKERS. Tell me, is nothing sacred? I have heard from
unimpeachable sources that The Welcome Wench uses trolls in their stew. Talk about
gristle!
He who challenges well, fights well. He who avoids without cause, shall lose
for good reasons. My mama told me that one. I also notice that the WEIRD ALCHEMY
stable was the most avoided team this turn. Come on ARKERS, what are you afraid of?
And avoiding WEIRD ALCHEMY more than any other team we find STEEL PROPHETS. ARKERS,
are we going to accept, or respect this sort of thing? Well, sports fans, take
notice that ZOO from Z GLADIATORZ was ARKERS' most challenged warrior this turn. In
a fit of brilliance or of stupidity (hard to say sometimes), DEMON TALON challenged
JELLYBOMBER today, facing a 26 difference in recognition. And crowds were on their
feet when DEMON TALON claimed a victory from JELLYBOMBER, and now has 66 points for
his efforts. In a brave attempt, ENEMY MAKER from WEIRD ALCHEMY challenged up 21
points to fight BLUE FLAK from the STEEL PROPHETS stable. ENEMY MAKER perhaps got
his just desserts, seeing as he was bested by BLUE FLAK and ended up with 74
recognition points.
The Dark Arena is for those who cannot win, not who cannot lose with grace.
Dignity in life or death is the warrior's creed. Whatever bright future WAIL THE
RAGER may have had, it's all history now. The manager of THE CHOSEN has lost a
promising 5-0-0 warrior. Hearty mugs of ale were raised in ARKERS today as PAIN
MAGNET was bid farewell to a 14-9-0 warrior, with CUTTER CRITES of BORN LOSERS
standing silent and pensive. I guess it was coming sooner or later, HOYT FOUNDATION
has lost KIZERVEXIOUS, and ARKERS is bound to miss him. For a little while, at
least. We'd like to remind certain teams not to rob the graves of their enemies.
You know who you are; and it's considered rude.
I like this place, ARKERS, the taverns have old wine, and young serving girls.
Who could ask for more? Always good to rest in ARKERS, but never good to wear out my
