DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
Notes from the arena champ.
Lucky me! Duelmaster! I am proud! I have come a long, long, way to get to this
spot. Perhaps I should take this time to really introduce myself?
Lucky Strike is an American Brand of cigarette owned by the British American
Tobacco groups. Often referred to as "Luckies," Lucky Strike was the top selling
cigarette in the United States during the 1930s. Lucky Strikes now have developed a
"cult" following, with many people that smoked Lucky Strikes in their youth continuing
to seek them out.
In 1917, the brand started using the slogan "It's Toasted", to inform consumers
about the manufacturing method in which the tobacco is toasted rather than sun-dried,
a process touted as making the cigarettes taste delicious.
In the late 1920s, the brand was sold as a route to thinness for women. One
typical ad said, "Reach for a Lucky instead of a sweet." Sales of Lucky Strikes
increased by more than 300% during the first year of the advertising campaign. Sales
went from 14 billion cigarettes in 1925 to 40 billion sold in 1930, making Lucky
Strike the leading brand nationwide.
The message "L.S.M.F.T." ("Lucky Strike means fine tobacco") was introduced on
the package in 1945.
Lucky Strikes were one of the brands included in the C rations provided to US
combat troops during the Second World War. Each C ration of the time included, among
other items, cigarettes, because at the time top military brass thought that tobacco
was essential to the morale of soldiers fighting on the front lines. The practice of
including cigarettes in field rations continued during the Korean and Vietnam wars,
ending around 1975 or 1976 with the growing knowledge that smoking caused various
kinds of health problems.

Lucky Strikes, Fine Duelmaster
SPY REPORT
It's me, The Unknown Spymaster here with my bag to give you the news on last
week's fights. Say good-bye to SMITHSONIAN, as they are pushed from the coveted top
team spot by the NORTHERN BADLANDS stable. For every winner there is a loser.
Speaking of losers, lets take a look at SMITHSONIAN, who went down to 1st from 9th.
Life is tough. Coming up with a solid 3-2-0 outing, BASH BROS SHOWER has advanced 9
places in the rankings. Z GLADIATORZ is no joke as it posted a 3-1-0 week advancing
from 9th place to 11th place. Hey everybody, watch out for STANDING WATER, who flew
up 25 points in the rankings after mashing UGLY KIDD JOE like a melon. Keep your eye
on this guy. And falling like a basher in the top ten was UGLY KIDD JOE, who dropped
18 points after a disappointing (to say the least) bout with STANDING WATER. Well
here's a duelmaster that doesn't sit back and say 'Challenge me'! LUCKY STRIKES made
a challenge against SWEET REVENGE this week. It's a proud day for the PEASANT
REBELLION stable, as their warrior, SWEET REVENGE, ascended the Duelmaster's throne.
An apple a day keeps the doctor away, but an onion a day keeps T.P.s at bay.
Let's dig a little deeper into what's happening in the ARKERS arena. Did you
hear that BASH BROS SHOWER was most avoided team this week? Well, knowing the
personal hygiene of BASH BROS SHOWER's warriors, I'm not surprised! For those of you
who like math, try this one: BASH BROS SHOWER + Weapons That go Boom = SERIOUS LEE +
Avoid City. Well just about everybody wants a piece of LUCKY DUCK, who was this
week's most challenged warrior. Well, it looks like ZEST wasn't happy with last
turn's rank, so she went for broke by challenging up 59 points. No guts, no glory.
To the crowd's chants of 'Bo-zo bo-zo bo-zo', CLYDE D'CLUB was taken out by the
lower-ranked ZEST. (Maybe it's time to think Dark Arena?). Getting lots of flowers
from sympathetic fans was OUT OF SOAP, who was successfully challenged by SEHWYN
STEEL who had a mere 26 points more than OUT OF SOAP. Well SEHWYN STEEL, just can't
get an easy fight anymore can you? You thought challenging down 26 points to OUT OF
SOAP would be fun. Right? Wrong! In a touching display by a 'touched' warrior,
EADSKAR DA'BAD went after GROUND SHEET, who was higher by 23 points. Well, when the
dust settled, EADSKAR DA'BAD overcame GROUND SHEET.
Death is kind of like a new puppy: he's always around wanting to play. (Ha
Zontani, how's that for a wise saying?). Big deal, so MALICE got mashed in the Dark
Arena. With his face he was more at home with the trolls than with us. (Waka waka).
Congrats to MAYMES for revenging the death of hers teammate (but more importantly,
feeding TEXAS RED a bit of dirt). Here's some advice: warriors with little wit and
will may encounter problems on the trail to the Isle.
Well, there's the manager of the ARKERS giving me the 'cut' sign (or is that
'They're going to strangle you in the alley?). Okay, so I may not be the world's
best comedian, but then you guys aren't the world's best warriors. Its been real,
and its been fun, but it hasn't been real fun...-- The Unknown Spymaster
