TEAM SPOTLIGHT
And so I accept my gift of immortality and head to the Isle. It has been a
fantastic experience here in Arkers. Longshot has always known I was destined for
greatness. After Longshot had recruited me from my temple in Fratsfa (Praise be to
Mantor), he invited an old comrade from his days in Monuntial to take a look at me. I
think the fellow was named Lord Paradox. Well, Lord Paradox took one look at me and
was impressed. He was so impressed that he said, "You know you have to name him
Scimitar Jesus". He felt that I was that good with the weapon. Longshot chuckled and
said, "I don't think I should put that much pressure on him. But I do like the name
'Banewrecker'."
So, that became my arena name. I still wanted to use the name my mother and
father gave me, 'Yrah.' So, Yrah Banewrecker set foot on the sands of Arkers.
The name 'Banewrecker' may sound arrogant, but Longshot was in a very good mood
at the time. You see, he had received three fantastic slashers within the same month.
These were his words, not mine. There was my brother in Mantor, Wail the Rager, and
an elf in Morya named 'the Hush'. I overheard Longshot telling Lord Paradox that if
he had to put us in a pecking order, ranked from best to.. well, you get it. I would
be first followed by the Hush, and finally Wail. Things were going okay, but bad luck
struck.
Within four months, Longshot had lost ten warriors to tourneys and regular play.
What hurt worse was that two of them were the Hush and Wail. The Hush and Wail died
in the same month within thirteen days of each other. Unlucky 13. It stung even more
when Zinc of Z Gladiatorz killed Wail with a war flail. A war flail! Can you believe
that?

Managers and gladiators alike are a superstitious lot. So Longshot made a vow
not to brag too much about my skill. You should never challenge bad luck by thinking
'Thinks couldn't get worse'. Plus, he didn't want to draw too much attention to me
and possibly lose me to Ahringol too. I think this worked well since I have a 16-8-3
record. I think three or four of those losses are to Mayflower and one to Plymouth
Rock. Damn you high defensive styles!

That is my brief tale. I think I will go all out for my last fight. I will
challenge someone who would normally have killed me. Who knows, maybe I will be the
killer. I have been robbed out of my fourth kill several times by the Arenamaster.

DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
Notes from the arena champ.
I am Duelmaster Plymouth Rock, and most certainly a Smithsonian. Plymouth Rock
is the traditional site of disembarkation of the Mayflower Pilgrims who founded
Plymouth Colony in 1620. It is an important symbol in American history. A rock
traditionally identified as Plymouth Rock has long been memorialized on the shore of
Plymouth Harbor in Plymouth, Massachusetts.
This is clearly more significant than finding a Maple Leaf in Canada or a Head Of
Cheese in Wisconsin. Besides, rock beats scissors and no one ever chooses paper
anymore. Hence, that is why I am Duelmaster and you are not.

Well, what are you looking at, ARKERS? Ain't you never seen Snide Clemens
before? Ah, shaddup and listen to my news. Later days, BLOODY HAND CLAN, since
SMITHSONIAN took top team from you this turn, you guys are old news. Now keep the
taverns open late tonight, for there are sorrows to drown for HEATHEN HORDE, whose
1-1-0 this turn dropped them by 4 into 10th. Ha! BROKEN SPIRITS turned their 2-3-0
turn into a 8th place rank in the listings this turn. Any better than this, and you
get put on hit lists. Now let's all watch SMITHSONIAN's heads swell from their 5-0-0
this turn. Haa ha ha ha! Big shots, big talk, big deal. Of course, we're all
terribly impressed to see UGLY KIDD JOE win a fight and gain 43 points, terribly.
Tsk, tsk, SITTING BULL beat DED 'ARD SKULLKRUSH and DED 'ARD SKULLKRUSH lost 18
points. You're breakin' my heart. THE GYPSY challenged ARKERS' Duelmaster for a
shot at the throne. And if variety is the spice of life, ARKERS may be getting
bland, as PLYMOUTH ROCK stays top dog in the city. I'm not in a very good mood
today, but why am I telling you this? You want to know what's new, don't you,
ARKERS?
Well, let's take a look at some more misdeeds of you miserable sword-boys.
What's the big D? THE CHOSEN was the most avoided team? Bunch of lily livered...
grumble... mumble... curse... And who led the way in this mass act of cowardice?
Let's see, well, whatcha know? It was THE OUTLAWS 2. Ha ha ha ha! THE GYPSY was
challenged more times this turn than the Duelmaster. Now was the DM insulted or
feared? Heh, heh. Now here's guts and stupidity all rolled into one, CURLY BILL
challenged up 29 to take on PARIS TROUT of HOYT FOUNDATION. But here's a pretty
tale--CURLY BILL did lose the fight, but gained 4 worth of recognition. Some long
shots can pay off, I guess. I suspect either a 21 will or a 21 ego on this one, but
WAY JOURNER has challenged up by 28 in an attempt against HELGA LOARWEN. And sure,
WAY JOURNER lost alright, but gained 1 recognition for his pains. And pains they may
indeed be! And we have MAUD STONEGUT in a challenge, going down 12 points for the
fight. Guess what? I thought MAUD STONEGUT showed great skill and promise when she
lost to BASKETEER. All right, so I slept through it! Big deal!
Ah, now we come to my favorite part, where we see all the guys who are dead and
gone, and get to see if their team cared. Gee, Z GLADIATORZ, ain't it past due for
sending ZIP IT Dark Arena? What took ol' '7-5-0' so long? Hope? Ha ha aha ha!
Let's see, 16-9-3. Pretty good record for a living warrior. A sad one though, for a
dead one. Such is the case for YRAH BANEWRECKER of THE CHOSEN. Tsk. And now a
passing thought on a warrior dying young (BLACK BART of THE OUTLAWS 2): You had your
chance and now you're dead. Oh well... Honor is like a chainmail shirt, it only
shines through use. Certain nameless cowards will doubtless rebuke me on this one.
There's got to be a better place in ARKERS to get a drink than The Swinging
Aardvark! Any suggestions? Well, I've had enough of this drivel, and I'm sure you
have too. Off like a dirty shirt of padded leather. Glad to see the back of this
