TEAM SPOTLIGHT
Rhahlum Zunun lifted another crate onto the back of the wagon. The man had been a
slave for the Bloody Hand Clan for five years now. He was with them when they moved to
Arkers. He remembered the way the entire stable made such a grand entrance into the
city. People came out of their shops and stopped their daily chores to watch the
caravan, led by a massive orc riding his equally gigantic hoar. And that one was an
evil, cruel bastard named Eadskar. Lady Greywand had made him immortal. If there was
anyone who should have that honour, it was Eadskar Da' Bad. He'd learned a word in the
Alastari tongue: psychopath. Even though he was not educated--hell, he was barely
literate--he believed the meaning of the word fit his former lord. That one killed for
no reason other than boredom.
The only time Eadskar had shown emotion was when Beckah Necksnag was around. That
was the rare time anyone saw affection from the brute, and it was all for her. Beckah
was a rising star and would easily become one of the stable's champions. But she was
slain trying to bloodfeud. What was the name of the slain member? He was a troll and
had a massive appetite, that stood out the most. But the name was hard to remember.
It was four years ago and his stay was brief. Glass Craw? Shark Jaw? Wait... It was
Glass Jaw.
That troll was just as resilient as he was a glutton. Rhahlum remembered one
night he was tasked with serving wine to the orcs after a night of revelry. There was
no need for the Bloody Hand Clan to celebrate; they had a terrible turn and were the
laughing stock of the city after such a grand entrance. Out of some drunken boredom,
they got the idea of hitting he inebriated troll over the skull with sticks of wood
that were four inches thick. That is why everyone was surprised when he was dealt
death by Starr of Destiny. That enigmatic warrior and his stable, the Rough Riders,
appeared and disappeared just as silently. But before he left, he had carved the
deaths of Glassjaw and Beckah Necksnag into his legacy. Two deaths, back to back.
Glass Jaw's death was a surprise. He was a troll after all. But Beckah's death was a
catastrophe because Beckah was Eadskar's lover and that caused him to go even more
over the edge. His level of cruelty grew so, he had begun to eat people's pets!
Eadskar had signed up to avenge the death of his lover. And Glass Jaw, one would
assume, but we all knew he did not give one damn about the slain troll. He wanted to
kill Starr for his love. A love he has never shown to anyone else. But Gutsag saw the
danger in this. He knew that Eadskar was heading towards his death. So, he got an
idea. But he would need the aid of the juvenile Shewish Giant; Stonewall. The two
drugged Eadskar and tucked him away in the locker room. And then Gutsag took his
leader's place. The round orc thought that he could handle a beating from Starr of
Destiny. And if push came to shove, his death would not hurt the stable as much as the
loss of their leader would.
But that did not happen. Gutsag managed to hold on for nine minutes and avenge
the deaths of his slain brethren. Nine minutes of broadsword hacks and slices, and
Gutsag would do it all over again, for the honour of the clan. And because he saw that
Eadskar had given up and was going to commit suicide by combat. He knew Starr would
kill him and he welcomed it.
For all of his troubles, Gutsag was beaten by Eadskar. Beaten near death. The two
orcs did not speak for several months. It took Eadskar earning his immortality for him
to finally speak to him other than to give orders in the arena. Their friendship
rekindled when everyone thought Gutsag had finally been killed. Eadskar showed up at
the funeral and was genuinely sad. Much to everyone's chagrin, Gutsag sat up in the
coffin and was alive and well. He was also extremely gassy from the cold beef sandwich
and the bottle of formaldehyde he drank while in the morgue.
"Are yer finished pack'n 'da wagon?"
Rhahlum Zunun turned to see Gutsag Bakwort standing in the entrance to their
stable house. He had acquired new, finer clothes from somewhere.
"Yes, sire. It has all been packed."
"Well, yer had betta be right. If I have ta turn around an' get someth'n it'll be
yer hide."
Rhahlum stifled a smile. He did not doubt the orc would punish for such a
mistake, but there was something noble about him. He could not put his finger on it,
but of all of the orcs, trolls, and giants he served in this stable, Gutsag was the
noblest of them all.
DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
Notes from the arena champ.
Finally! I kan leave an go ta 'da isle. I have earned ma right amongst da immortals uv
greywand an' none uv ya kan say different. Yer even tried ta kill me 'n duels. But yer
guys did not know ma secret. Ya kept hitt'n me 'n 'da head. 'Dat iz ma strongest area.
Wun night Glassjaw an' I wuz hav'n a kontest ta see 'oo kould take 'da strongest blow
ta 'da skull. Afta twenty whacks even Glassjaw was look'n a little glassy-eyed, but I
was fine. I jus kept drink'n ma brandy. I really miss dat git. Rest 'n peace, Glassy.
Wot 'n da hells iz go'n on wit' dose guys 'n da kommission? I wanted wun uv dose great

'Dat iz ma favourite. A d*mned small shield. Gud fing I am retir'n. Wot self-respect'n

"'Cuse me, sir. Do ya mind if I bump ya wit' ma dinna plate?"
'Dat ain't happen'n!
Since dis iz ma last turn amongst ya softies, I will make dese challenges gud. I will

SPY REPORT
Hail and well met warriors of ARKERS! Know me for who I am, Zontani Sharp Eyes,
Spymaster extraordinaire of all Alastari. Former top team SMITHSONIAN was unseated
this week as THE CHOSEN moved up from 4th ranking to take the top spot with a 4-1-0
record for the round. There were bitter words at THE TRAVELERS' guildhouse after a
0-4-0 showing this week which dropped the stable into 7th. Dark Arena anyone?
Warriors--remember that glory waits always around the corner! Witness how this week
HOYT FOUNDATION went 3-2-1 to move up 5 in the rankings. Did only my eyes note the
4-1-0 record which THE CHOSEN managed to post this round? I don't doubt that such a
record will draw challengers! In one of the week's more notable duels, SHAWNDO put
down ALBUS BONERATTLER, causing him to lose 9 points of recognition in the process.
Unwilling to wait upon the will of others, Duelmaster GUTSAG BAKWORT challenged
GROUND SHEET last week in a match to decide the fate of the throne. This time
victory fell to the grasp of the usurper. All hail GROUND SHEET, Duelmaster of
ARKERS! Informants "close" to the city champion have told me that he never fights
without pantyhose on beneath his armor. Watch out!
I have been in deep conclave with my spies who watched all that has recently
transpired. Indeed there is much I would report. I saw one fighter that warriors
avoided when this week's challenge seeking began. HOYT FOUNDATION is feared. This
much I can say. Methinks more than a few here could name the guild it was that spent
the better part of last week avoiding HOYT FOUNDATION. Indeed it was SMITHSONIAN.
Mighty fighters cannot but expect competition from those below. GROUND SHEET take
warning! You have more than a few enemies in ARKERS. I can not but mention with
disdain the name of TOOTHLESS LOVE who this week posted a challenge to a warrior a
full 10 points below in the rankings. I thought TOOTHLESS LOVE showed great skill
and promise when she slew SCRAP METAL. All right, so I slept through it! Big deal!
Vendettas. Bloodied blades and broken spears. Indeed the city has seen more
than its fair share of red in recent times. The warrior's path is harsh. For
mediocrity there is but one reward--death. This past week SCRAP METAL, at 7-8-1,
departed ARKERS forever. Some say a warrior is judged by the way he bears arms. One
thing is sure, better a dagger in hand then a sword on the belt!
A thought before I go. Each warrior practices one style, but must not the wise
manager learn the secrets of them all? Ahh, but I can hear the spires of a far off
city calling to me. I must away! Till next we meet remember: a fool flies into a
rage quickly and often. The wise are angered by the same thing only once. Zontani
