"It's indecent!" Fisher King roared, snatching the socks out of Bitterman's
hands. "Disrespectful--it's THEFT, dammit!"
"Get real, Fisher, she's DEAD. Why should it be wrong to wear her socks?"
Bitterman looked at the dark blue stockings dangling from his teammate's hand.
"They're WARM socks, and I really need them. Surely Bluestocking wouldn't grude them
to me."
"You didn't ASK her--"
"Of course not. She's dead."
"She probably wouldn't have minded," Norther cut in, trying to cool the
argument. "She was a generous woman." He paused and smiled a little. "Very
generous, really...."
Blue Streak, newest member of the team, reached over and plucked one of the
stockings out of Fisher King's hand. He rubbed it between his fingers and peered at
it closely. "It'd fade onto you," he noted. "No mordant--"
"We could tap the Deserter," Blammo suggested, snickering at his own pun.
Ignoring him, Streak went on, "So it'd make more sense for ME to borrow them.
I'm accustomed to 'blue streaks', you see. They'd just make you... bitter."
Blammo snickered again. "He's got you there!"
"Maybe so," Fisher said, "but nobody's got these socks." He snatched back the
one Streak had taken and stalked out.
"What's the deal with that?" Streak asked. "He's being unreasonable about those
socks."
"Yeah, well, he was fond of Bluestocking, I guess," Norther said, shrugging. "I
think he still hopes her death was over-stated, that she was invalided out of the
arena without totally dying. And the socks are iconic for him."
"Weird," Blue Streak muttered.

SPY REPORT
Much has changed in ZUKAL since last I was here. Never fear, Olaf Modeen adapts
to many situations, as do all successful fighters. What's with SWEET CHEEKS? She
actually beat SERPENTS HOLD 2's SERPENT 2, and walked away with 16 more points from
the fight. Major screwup at SERPENTS HOLD 2. SERPENT 2 lost 8 points to SWEET
CHEEKS. Some new strategies, perhaps? Maybe SERPENT 2 will provide more easy
wins... See how the Duelmaster challenged BLUE MOON's NORTHER? That sort of
initiative is how she got where she is now. NORTHER was reminded on the sands why
SHORT SKIRT is Duelmaster. Wouldn't it be nice to have live subjects to practice on?
I hear some team is looking into the uses of convicted prisoners.
If at first you don't succeed, avoid. That'll get you in the Spyreports. ZUKAL
thinks SPACEMARINES and their 52-87-8 is too much! If at first you don't succeed,
give up... Management must be dealin', as the boys at HOT STUFF ain't reelin'!
SPACEMARINES' mad! How well I know the feeling of being the most challenged warrior,
NORTHER! Don't make idle boasts, they may come back to haunt you. SILK GARTER of
HOT STUFF knows how to pick 'em. She challenged BITTERMAN of BLUE MOON who is up by
23. Now was this a wise move? SILK GARTER perhaps got hers just desserts, seeing as
she defeated BITTERMAN and ended up with 55 recognition points.
There have been some calls to lengthen the time limit. Do you want the fighters
to walk away, or not? Many a warrior has met his fate in a hungover stupor. You
young rapscallions, take note!
Many other cities have retirement homes for aged warriors. Any plans here? All
work and no play makes Olaf a dull fighter. Work and play no fighter dull Olaf.
Olaffighterwork and no play. Remember--a good fighter needs both good skills and
good luck. Until next time,-- Olaf Modeen
