                                "Fight As Thou Wilt!"
                                      by Hammer

Hammer surveyed his "warriors in training" as he made the rounds of touring his
Morya Estate on the Lake in DM 28 otherwise known as Hammerz Flower Garden.
GrimmDorr had mentioned in his weekly report that a number of warriors were
expressing dissatisfaction in not being called upon to populate one of Hammer's
active stables.
Such discontent could be put to good use as trouble was brewing in Aruak City
where Hammer had abandoned his Black Jack Hammer stable and casino when it had come
to his attention that the stable had a potential for Killing in an arena where
Killing was frowned upon.
Out of Hammer's respect for the friendship kindled with The Consortium, Hammer
had in the past removed at least two stables from Aruak City who potentially had
Killers on the roster.
It was with mixed feelings that Hammer disbanded the stables, but now the state
of the arena was calling for the types of warriors that Hammer enjoyed employing upon
the arena sands of Alastari.
The attitudes expressed by some of the current managers in Aruak City had drawn
the ire of many other managers from across Alastari and a movement was in the wind to
send Killers to DM 11.
Hammer understood the many faceted views expressed throughout Alastari and had
come to the conclusion that he would finance a stable of Mercenary Hammerz to FIGHT
AS THEY PLEASED in Aruak City.
Thus the announcement was decreed to the camp of gladiators who were training on
his Hammerz Flower Garden estate grounds to let them choose as to which side they
would fight for in DM 11.
Now Hammer would await the screening of applicants as GrimmDorr questioned and
grilled those fighters who would yearn to travel to Aruak City for Hammer's Bag of
Gold to fight as they pleased.
Hammer made arrangements to reopen the old Black Jack Hammer casino quarters,
dividing it into separate quarters for each of the five warriors who chose the Gold
and the Glory of Aruak City.
These Mercenary Hammerz would NOT ALL fight on the same side or for the same
purpose.
They would fight as their conscience [or NO conscience] would dictate, which was
at the core of the issue between the Invaders vs. the Defenders issue at hand in
Aruak City.
After the passing of time, GrimmDorr was summoned for an audience with Hammer to
discuss the particulars of sending these Mercenary Hammerz to Aruak City for the
coming mayhem.
At the appointed day, Hammer gathered the new recruits of Mercenary Hammerz and
conveyed them to the confines of their new quarters in Aruak City via his Elven Orbs
of Transport.
Once his Mercenary Hammerz got settled into their private quarters, each warrior
met with Hammer to receive their designated Bag of Gold and to declare their Arena
Name and purpose for fighting.
"I hear the ale is GOOD at the Bulldog Inn and NO INVADER should have the right
to disrupt the way of life that has been established in Aruak City!" declared the
first warrior known as Bulldog Hammer.
"Each gladiator should have the right to fight the way he or she chooses in any
given arena without being dictated to by the managers who have assembled their
stables there!" declared Steele Hammer.
"THOSE PANSY ANDORIAN MANAGERS MUST BE TAUGHT A LESSON BY EXECUTING THEIR
WARRIORS MERCILESSLY AND WITHOUT QUARTER!" shouted Frothing Hammer.
"The Honor and Established Way of Life in Aruak City MUST BE DEFENDED and
Upheld!" declared Aruak Hammer.
"DUH...Me Here to Hunt Whoever and However Me Choose to Hunt and NO ANDORIAN LAW
or CODE OF HONOR Will Tell Me How or HOW NOT to FIGHT!" decreed Duh Hunter Hammer.
The 5 Mercenary Hammerz glared at one another and went to their separate
quarters as Hammer dismissed them to their Destiny with a Bag of Gold and the
following Decree:
     "Fight As Thou Wilt!"

Aruak City:

The summer heat baked the evening twilight as no breeze had come off the Trier
to cool the city, or at least, none that reached far enough inland. It was still
warmer inside than outside of course, so Adeolar sat comfortably in a rocking chair
on the porch of her establishment, the Bulldog Inn. The Inn, pub, and guildhouse had
once belonged to Kennelworth, a long time Aruak arena manager, who at least a year
earlier had retired his team 'The Bulldogs' and entrusted the care of his place to
her. The Bulldog Inn was very busy today, as it had become in the last few days, so
Adie was enjoying a much needed break. She relaxed in the shade, in the relative
quiet at the end of the porch, with little but the incessant creaking of wood to
disturb her as she rocked back and forth slowly.
As had been seen many times in the last few weeks, wagons and mules passed down
the thoroughfare in front of the Bulldog, loaded down with weapons, armor, and what
appeared to be gladiators. Some, perhaps the managers, even seemed to recognize her,
casting mischievous or evil glances her way. But none said hello.
Tankesh Dushanbe, her right hand man, an Araoi elf actually, gently floated up
the steps and sauntered over to his boss. Adie had retired from basic arena
management, and when her budget had tightened with running the Inn, she had to
abandon, for the time being, her advanced teams. Since she had entrusted management
to Tankesh, one of her first Lord Protectors, she was always a bit behind in the
happenings of the arena. Tankesh had been a good choice, because he had high ideals,
but was...how should one say, better suited, to the aggressive nature of arena
management. She was always willing to give people the benefit of the doubt, and
unwilling to pass judgement or take action when other managers came to make a mockery
of Aruak's customs. But he was the exact opposite. Sometimes it got him into
trouble...actually, it got him into trouble quite often, but his style had worked so
far. He had almost become a spokesman for the Aruak arena since nobody else seemed
to enjoy the job. Adie still preferred to post notices though, since she knew she
was more diplomatic than he.
"What's going on these days?" she asked casually as he approached, motioning to
a wagon passing.
"The arena is growing in size...fast. It's strange," he continued, "they all
started appearing about a month ago."
"What are they like?" she asked inquisitively, always eager to make new friends
and welcome people to beautiful Aruak City.
Tankesh pulled up a chair and casually leaned back. "Actually, they've been
quiet, like they've got something to hide. I've had a hunch they know each other, or
it's some concerted effort to reactivate old teams from closed arenas and begin new
ones."
"Have you checked the manager list with the Commission?"
"I was about to do that, do you want to come?" Tankesh asked, seeing she was
taking an interest in what was going on in the arena.
     "Sure."

Tankesh trailed behind Adie as they approached the arena. She looked in her
element today. The sun was brilliant in her fiery hair, and her holy symbol glinted
brightly. She was not only a wizard, but a Priestess of the Sun. That didn't stop
him from checking her out of course as he was always a bit of a chauvinist. Adie had
grown accustomed to his ritual of casually admiring women, even her, and she ignored
it as she approached the manager and ads postings.
Adie ran her finger down the list as Tankesh leaned on the arena wall beside
her, looking at the personal ads.
"It looks like a whole lot of the Frothingsloshers have showed up, maybe even
all of them. Some of these teams' managers are unlisted so far though." She
shrugged. "I have heard of some of them, they don't seem to be all that bad. I
would have reservations about a couple though."
"Well, you might want to change that assessment," Tankesh added grimly. "Read
this."
Adie moved over and read the personal ads. "What? What is this...?" She
sounded as though she wanted to curse, but it wasn't her nature.
"It's an invasion, by drunkards," he answered. "Then there is this guy here,"
he said, pointing to another ad.
"It seems people other than just the Sloshers' are here to 'invade' and do as
they please. Do they really think they can come here to our home, and dictate to us?
And tell us that they are going to kill all our warriors and ruin our home? As much
as I've seen in my life, it never ceases to amaze me how much lack of respect and
intelligence some people have."
Tankesh sighed. "These idiots just never get it. I wouldn't be surprised if
these other unlisted managers are part of the invasion too," he added, motioning back
to the manager list.
"If Shania was still here, she could tell us." Adie's thoughts wandered. "I'm
worried about her. It has been over a year, maybe two, since we heard from her."
"She can handle herself. She's more than just the world's greatest diviner,"
Tankesh added casually. "Let's focus on the issue at hand."
"Well, this is the kind of situation I can not tolerate or handle," Adie
admitted, still worried for Shania. "You do your thing. How you deal with these
people, I do not want to know."
Adie was looking a bit gloomy, but she was determined not to get too involved.
The team was his to manage. "What about the other team here in Aruak?" she suddenly
asked.
Tankesh looked at her curiously. "Other team?"
"The one I moved here from Tarrgir over a year ago."
Tankesh shrugged. "I didn't know they were here. They must be managing
themselves."
"Clovia was in charge, but when she graduated...." Adie trailed off in thought.
"I'll look into it," Tankesh promised.
"Just one suggestion," Adie added before Tankesh headed to their own newly
constructed guildhouse. "Talk to our allies, and see who you can get to coordinate
with in the defense of Aruak. This will be a bigger mess than anything that has come
to Aruak before, except when Kyrican invaded with his army. You'll need help,
whether you want it or not."
     "Gotcha," he answered.

Tankesh wished her a good evening and departed for the guildhouse as Adie
strolled back to the Bulldog Inn. The crowd at the Bulldog Inn had gathered into a
virtual mob. She walked up to the back of the group that was crowding in the front
door. "Excuse me, I have to get into my Inn," she called over the crowd as she began
to squeeze her way in. "Excuse me, excuse me...."
When she finally worked her way to the front of the pub, her amazement at how
packed the Inn had become paled in comparison to her amazement at who was behind the
bar. The smile that spread on her face was the kind that could burn off a gloomy
overcast day. It was the brightest one she had had in a year, and it clearly showed
the affection she had for the bartender who was welcoming people as much as being
welcomed by the crowd.
Adie leaned forward over the bar smiling and called out to him, "KENNELWORTH!"
The kindly middle aged manager turned and smiled. The Consortium was back!

Seam:

Tonga, a Lord Protector who had graduated here, stood on the top level of the
arena and looked out over the small city. The past year or two had not been kind to
Seam. Buildings still stood between the center of the city and the river, but the
other half of the town was in ruins. "It wouldn't look any worse if there'd been a
war here," he muttered to his teammate, Nathaniel G.
"If there'd been a war, there would be more bodies," Nathaniel argued. Anything
else he might have said was drowned out by rumbling deep in the earth.
The geyser that had broken out a few months ago burst into the air, bringing
sulfur-scented steam. It rose in the center of the devastated area, shooting higher
than the arena walls before a wind from the west seized the top of the plume and blew
scalding mist to the east. The circle of abandoned buildings marked the distance
that any normal wind was likely to blow the deadly steam. Although some of the
destruction in the center had resulted from the blast that released the geyser, and
from the occasional earth-shocks afterward, most of it was due to vandalism and
looting.
Some of the vandals, Tonga noted sadly, were gladiators whose teams hadn't found
new homes after the arena closed. He could understand their anger and despair, but
wished they'd found a more constructive outlet. Others were relicts of the civil war
who, for one reason or another, had nowhere else to go.
"Point's in worse shape," Nathaniel said when the geyser finally subsided.
"Wiped out by..." he hesitated, not wanting to attribute the destruction of Point to
ghosts.
"Ghosts," Tonga said. "Might as well admit it. Everyone says it was ghosts out
of Krael that wiped out Point and hit Iaye, too." He glanced sideways at his
companion. "When you were out toward Point, did you swing down to Ti? We haven't
heard a word from there in, I dunno, weeks, months?"

Zorpunt:

Karanjal walked into the Krill Cavalry guildhouse and flopped into a chair. He
wasn't sure now what he had expected life to be like once he became a Lord Protector,
but he knew he hadn't expected to end up as a courier riding all over the Clanhold.
He accepted a mug of cold cider from his teammate, Flitter McGee, and drank deeply.
Flitter waited impatiently, and when Karanjal didn't seem likely to stop
drinking, he said, "Well?"
     "No, not well," Karanjal growled.
"You went to Ti," Flitter prompted, when no further comment was forthcoming.
"There isn't any Ti. Empty beach. Not even ruins."
"Some kind of wave, like took out Point?" Flitter guessed.
"You're not listening!" Karanjal slammed his mug onto the long refectory table
in sudden irritation. "There is no Ti. It's like there never was a Ti. With Point,
there are ruins. With Ti, nothing. I searched the coast for three miles each way--
What a joke, each way from what? I couldn't even be sure exactly which part of the
coast used to have the town on it!" He was silent for a moment. "There's a cliff at
the water's edge," he said finally, "some kind of purplish rock with fossils in it.
Like nothing I've seen anywhere before. I'm guessing that's where Ti used to be,
that somehow the town got swapped for a piece of some other coast somewhere...."
     "But that's impossible!"
"Unlikely, maybe, but what other explanation is there?"
"Okay, okay...." Flitter frowned. "Okay, really big magic could maybe do it,
but really big magic is impossible right now, because of the Chaos contamination and
the Arcanum failing and all."
Karanjal shrugged. "I don't have to come up with answers, thank all gods! I
just go and gather facts. Someone else can figure out what's going on." He heaved
himself up reluctantly. "I suppose I'd better write out a report."

At an unknown location:

Belana listened to the sliding rocks, but she kept her eyes moving. Just
because she could hear someone coming from one direction, that didn't mean there
wasn't somebody coming from some other direction, too. The man who emerged from the
trees was dark enough to be Delarquan, but if this was the wrong side of some Gate,
that didn't mean anything. She supposed she should be glad it was human. Or at
least looked human. Her gaze flicked to the man and then along the edge of the
trees, back to the man and along the trees on the other side. He looked like
Gelleran. Not exactly, but very nearly like Gelleran. Maybe he was trapped on this
side of the Gate, too.
Or maybe this was somebody or some THING else that was mimicking Gelleran's
appearance to put her off guard. There was a lot of deceit in the world--in ANY
world, after all.
The man came down the last of the slope in a half-run that made enough noise to
cover anyone else who might be moving in the woods. "Belana! My seer said you would
be here--I'm so glad you're not badly hurt!" He came up against the low wall that
marked that side of her floor, hitting it with a jolt that would knock the breath out
of anyone. He grinned at her, panting.
If this wasn't Gelleran, the illusion was beyond her ability to penetrate, and
she couldn't refuse help just because she didn't trust this world. Belana put down
her rock and stood. "I'm glad to see a familiar face," she admitted. "But where are
we?"
"On Kordos, of course!" He recovered his breath and came around the wall,
obviously intending to take her into his arms.
Belana shied back. She knew he liked her, but they hadn't been on hugging
terms, that she recalled. But at least they must be still in the Ghean world, still
on Alastari, even. She grabbed for the first neutral topic that came to mind.
"Kordos...that's your island, isn't it? Near Valamantis--"
"It is my island, yes, of course," he said, lowering his arms and looking
disturbed. "And yours, too, I hope. As my betrothed and soon-to-be wife and queen,
I hope you will come to regard Kordos as your home just as it is mine. But...I do
not know of this Valamantis you speak of."

Not in Zuwayza:

A deep drumming sound echoed through the house.
"That will be the Sultan's men--or the Temple Guards, even!--at the door," the
merchant muttered. "I dare not refuse them entry."
The merchant hurried away, and Tankesh dismissed the man from his mind. The way
his head ached, he didn't figure on wasting his efforts on peripheral puzzles. The
important thing was to get on his feet without falling down. He braced one hand
against the wall and pushed himself upward. After a moment, the room stopped
wobbling around. He took a careful step toward the small table that held his sword,
picked it up, and slung the belt around himself. Headache or no, he could fight if
he had to, and just having the sword at hand gave him confidence. He looked around
the room.
The doctor was tidying away all sign that someone had been here, straightening
the cover on the divan, scooping up a small cup and spoon, a bit of bloodstained
cloth, anything that might be out of place, and gathering it all into a small bundle
which he shoved into his doctor's bag. Not speaking, the man gestured for Tankesh to
follow him and darted out a door that had been concealed by a hanging curtain.
No, Tankesh corrected himself as he scrambled to keep up with the man, not
concealed. It didn't seem to be anything like a secret door, and the curtain was
probably merely to stop drafts. Well, whatever. He didn't suppose that mattered.
He would probably never see these people or this place again.
The doctor led him down a long hall; some of the doorways opening off it had
curtains for closure and others had real doors of wood. Even in what Tankesh guessed
was a service hallway, the doors were all surrounded by tiles painted with bright-
colored floral patterns, and the floor, also of tile, had a long strip of striped
carpet down it. The door at the far end was locked and bolted, but the doctor had a
key and let them out into an alley.
A blank-faced building on the side made a narrow path of black shadow, but for
the rest, the sun turned the alley into an oven. The doctor didn't pause but led him
onward at a brisk trot, around a corner, and in through another door, across a small
courtyard, into a dusty hallway, out another door, and on and on through a maze of
buildings and alleys. Tankesh wondered what kind of practice the man had that he
knew this maze so well. They saw few people in their rapid passage, all of them
heavily cloaked and moving away.
They ended up in another small courtyard, this one dominated by a spreading
cypress tree and a tiled pool of water with a fountain splashing gently into it.
"I will leave you here," the doctor said quickly. "The sage may be able to help
you return to your own world. Fare you well, Traveler, and may the Goddess smile
upon your going out and your returning." Before Tankesh could respond, he vanished
back through the gateway.
"So you are a Traveler, eh?" The voice came from the deep shade of the cypress,
unhurried and genial. "It's been a long time since I Traveled, though I visited many
worlds in my youth. Come sit here by the fountain and tell me how it is with you,
young man."
Tankesh peered into the shadow but couldn't make out more than a vague presence.
With a slight shrug, he moved closer, noting with relief that the air was distinctly
cooler under the tree. He sank down onto the rim of the fountain and squinted into
the shadow.
The sage was very old, a shrunken, withered figure barely visible among a nest
of shawls. How could he stand shawls in this heat? "What's going on?" he asked.
The old man sighed. "It's a time of change, young man. I have studied many
lifetimes and do not fully understand it. There is always the possibility of
Traveling from one world to another, but the choice of destination is ordinarily
restricted, and the passage is difficult. For some reason beyond my slender
understanding, this is changing...at least for now. A world of which we know
nothing, have never Visited--your world--is coming into conjunction with ours.
Travel is easy, even happening by sheerest accident. Thus, I gather, your presence."
"The doctor who brought me here said the same thing, more or less. But that
still doesn't tell me why ME, what happened to my companion, and how I get home!"
The old man laughed. "Why you and what happened to your companion, I cannot
guess. As to how you might get home--" He stretched one thin leg out in front of
him, and the sunlight burned on a crimson slipper with a curled toe. "I don't think
my shoes will fit you, but there are other ways. Quite simple, really. Come into my
terminal." He hoisted himself to his feet and headed for a door that was barely
visible under a deep arcade.

                                      SPY REPORT

Hail and well met warriors of ARUAK CITY! Know me for who I am, Zontani Sharp
Eyes, Spymaster extraordinaire of all Alastari. Former top team KNIGHTS OF VIRTUE
was unseated this week as VIEW ASKEW moved up from 6th ranking to take the top spot
with a 4-1-0 record for the round. The proverbial rising comet can only hope to
compare with SAUCY'S ANGELS' team record! A 3-2-1 week and now a firm grasp on a 9th
place ranking. My tutors were fond of telling me that the higher you rise the harder
you fall. This week U.B.O.S.M. went 0-5-0 and fell 13 notches into 21st! BAD HEIR
DAY bore the brunt of major assault on their standings this week as they dropped to
22nd position as the result of going 1-4-0! My tutors were fond of telling me that
the higher you rise the harder you fall. This week MANIC MARVELS went 0-3-0 and fell
18 notches into 36th! GRYFFINDOR HOUSE2 bore the brunt of major assault on their
standings this week as they dropped to 37th position as the result of going 1-2-0!
My tutors were fond of telling me that the higher you rise the harder you fall. This
week SEER KING went 2-3-0 and fell 12 notches into 39th! KRILL CAVALRY bore the
brunt of major assault on their standings this week as they dropped to 40th position
as the result of going 2-3-0! Did only my eyes note the 3-1-1 record which CLUB
HAMMER managed to post this round? I don't doubt that such a record will draw
challengers! A new guild, SOLAPALOOZA, entered ARUAK CITY with a clash this turn,
showing off a 5-0-0 record. Indeed, a worthy addition to the city guilds. The city
turned out in welcome to meet the banners of a new guild, MORAL FIBER, as they
entered the city this week. May victory find you! GUARDIAN caught the eye of many in
the gladiatorial commission as he skillfully bested SUMTHING PAINFUL and was awarded
22 points in recognition. In one of the week's more notable duels, ONEWOLF put down
THE GREAT SAMARITAN, causing him to lose 12 points of recognition in the process.
Who here was not present for the title fight this week as NUBIAN GOD boldly
challenged BART WELLENS in order to strive for the Duelmasters honors? This time
victory fell to the grasp of the usurper. All hail NUBIAN GOD, Duelmaster of ARUAK
CITY! Informants "close" to the city champion have told me that he never fights
without pantyhose on beneath his armor. Watch out!
I have been in deep conclave with my spies who watched all that has recently
transpired. Indeed there is much I would report. ARUAK CITY, city of gladiators!
Mighty among the names of thy guilds is U.B.O.S.M., a guild shunned and avoided by
many in the weekly duels. If you didn't look down dark alleys you'd have been hard
pressed to find any of PATRONAS VERITAS last week. Busy avoiding U.B.O.S.M.? Loose
talk at the arena has reached my ears and it but confirms the knowledge that many
fighters are after GARZELLI. Watch your back! At the gambling halls I have started
to bet money on SERENITY. She has got the courage it takes. Witness hers challenge
this turn against JUGHEAD! I must admit to some joy. Before my very eyes the
underdog in this contest, SERENITY, defeated JUGHEAD to claim victory and
recognition. Give RICK DERRIS credit for his courage. Did you note how he
challenged DREIHDENSMURF despite the 30 point difference in their rankings? The VIEW
ASKEW stable will be up late tonight, for indeed it was RICK DERRIS who claimed
victory in the contest, ascending 21 in recognition! I cannot but express pride for
the fearlessness of BACK-DOOR ANGEL who cast caution to the winds and challenged LORD
BENNETT, a fighter 29 points higher. Do not the gods reward courage? BACK-DOOR
ANGEL it was that claimed victory in the bout, while also rising 29 points in
recognition. Give CREAMER credit for his courage. Did you note how he challenged
TATIANA SEASPRITE despite the 32 point difference in their rankings? 1 points of
newly earned recognition and a dose of my admiration is what CREAMER must now weigh
against the defeat which resulted. I can not but mention with disdain the name of
SCRAG'S LIZARD who this week posted a challenge to a warrior a full 10 points below
in the rankings. I thought SCRAG'S LIZARD showed great skill and promise when it
beat BOOTLEG PATCHWORK. All right, so I slept through it! Big deal!
What warrior does not hone his years, impatiently waiting for the moment of his
foe's mortality? My hearty congratulations LONNIE JOHNSON, for thy revenge upon
DARTH PRETZEL, slayer of thy fallen comrade. Next time it will know better, eh?
Walk proud, warriors of GIRO PELETON! By striking down EL SCORCHO you have avenged
the honor of your dead. Your virtue is known to all in ARUAK CITY. Dark alleys may
hide both secrets and assassins. In the arena there is only the brightness of steel.
Keep vigil always!
If it were not for my skills as a spy I would have been mugged three times
already in ARUAK CITY. Nice atmosphere you have here! More than a sharp eye must I
keep, indeed a stout pair of legs must I keep as well! The endless paths of Alastari
await me! Till next we meet remember: a fool flies into a rage quickly and often.
The wise are angered by the same thing only once. Zontani Sharp Eyes

All -- One of the non-controversial traditions here in Aruak City, started by Hanibal
I think it was, is to have a Question Of the Week "Q.O.W." They are game mechanics
related questions mostly, but feel free to ask or post one. Many of the managers
here are kind enough to respond. -- Adie, mgr. of the Bulldog Inn

Generalissimo Puerco -- Congratulations on getting all 10 styles out! Is Basher the
only style you haven't graduated from here? -- Adie

Mordigan -- Welcome to Aruak City. Stop on by the Bulldog Inn for a drink and meet
the other Aruak regulars. Luckily we haven't had much riff-raff yet, but I'm sure
that will change. Most of the managers who were here before the 'invasion' are all
friendly, so I hope you make the most of your time here. Good luck trying to not get
caught in the middle. -- Adie

GEOGRAPHY -- Mordigan asked some questions, so here are a few of my own comments as
Aruak's Cartographer. The Andorian League was formed as an alliance of independent
nations who believe in freedom, liberty, etc., to stymie the advances of the
Delarquan Federation, a loose organization of kingdoms and cities who banded together
to make war on the free countries to the north (Andorian and Free Blades). But the
'Larq cities and kingdoms also make war on each other. Recently, the Andorian League
has changed its political status and has become a single kingdom after some
unsuccessful coup attempts, which the Andorian King survived. He consolidated power
through the conflict and at one point had to liberate Aruak City from the rebel
leaders and their misguided soldiers.
Information can be requested from RSI, or found on their web site, that contains
historical accounts of all these nations and cities, although it may be a bit out of
date as stories have progressed.
As Aruak City's personal cartographer, I have mapped out the city and its major
institutions, and written descriptions of the major or famous locations. I am
currently, slowly, converting it to a digital format, which will allow easier
selection of guild houses for new managers. -- Adie, Cartographer of Aruak City

Ed. -- Looks like you'll have to do another manager list soon, judging by the way
this arena is exploding. -- Adie

Leeta -- According to Tankesh, the lemmings are 'invading' our city. That would
explain the growth. -- Adie

Dr. Mabuse -- Welcome to Anja and Corine. Ordinary, extra-ordinary, I don't care.
Just as long as they are CUTE chambermaids! -- Tankesh

Tripwire -- Welcome. Well, I'm kinda obligated to give you the standard ho-hum
speech. Which would be, your principles are not Aruak's principles. Nuf said. So
we'll have at you I suppose and treat you as you want to be treated. -- Tankesh

Ichabod F. -- Invaders? Where? Oh, you mean, all you guys? I thought it was just a
procession of lemmings herding through town. I knew something was fishy. When we
drive you into the ocean, that's what you'll smell like. -- Tankesh

Nunzio F. -- And may you bleed more! -- Tankesh

Sylvester F. -- Ok, thanks for the heads up. Note to self: one of the lemmings....
-- Tankesh

Cosmo F. -- You are welcome! Although, I gotta wonder about not welcoming a warning.
I mean, would you ignore the 'Warning: Tire Spikes' sign, and drive right out the
entrance and burst all your tires? Personally, I like to know when I'm headed
towards a cliff, but you're welcome to dive right over with the other lemmings. Just
so you know, the 'winds of change' have blown through Aruak before, and sure, things
have changed, but in the end, Aruak has always been liberated. So will it be with
you. Good luck. -- Tankesh

Manray F. -- Blah blah blah...you sound like one of the MF'ers! Personally, I
thought you were going to say that YOU were putting the pointy white hats on. You
are the invading prejudice thugs, after all. You can keep whatever scorecard you
want, but it doesn't make a difference to me. You can measure your success in a few
turns. I'll let you know what I think in a few years. -- Tankesh
P.S. I don't need to give the lemmings a proclamation. You've announced your
intentions quite clearly, and you already know our response, it seems.

Generalissimo -- Congrats on the calls to Orion and Bootleg! -- Dr. Mabuse

All -- It has come to my attention that there are a whole bunch of managers in Aruak
City that like to gang up on one team and dictate how that manager should run his
warriors. I have come to town to see if this group of managers does as well against
a manager with some experience as they do against the newbies. I'll save you some
time, skip the inane warnings and let's get to the fighting. I'll be playing in
Aruak City the way I have played for 20 years, except for my kill desire numbers;
those will be a bit higher than usual. I have a list form the Round Table
discussions on who is volunteering to teach me the error of my ways. I'll be
challenging from that list. For those of you that may be innocent civilians in this
conflict, I'm afraid I don't have time to keep track of who is challenging to
challenge, and who is trying to make a point. Therefore, I will add anyone who
challenges me to the Credo-Police list, and move on. I hope everyone can look at the
bright side; this will be the fiercest arena in the game for some time to come. I'll
be running NEVERWAKE, DEADMAN'S HAND, and WOLFBROTHERS. -- Doc Steele

Tankesh -- Actually I suppose I've already been warned since your ad last turn was
addressed to "All." Probably not the best ad to write for a team trying to reach 50%
like yours. Good luck, it is a good feeling to get an old team back above 50%. It
took a long time for me to do it in Talcama. -- Doc Steele

Tripwire -- Well said last turn in the ads. I am here to support your right to do
whatever the hell you want. Good luck. -- Doc Steele

Mordigan -- I'm still not really sure where you stand. Are you just doing your own
thing, or do you plan to fight with the Credo-Police? Either way, I hope you enjoy
the competition. Best of luck. -- Doc Steele

Manray -- You do have a certain style in the ads. I look forward to reading them in
the years to come. -- Doc Steele

Frothingsloshers -- Happy hunting, boys. -- Doc Steele

Orion -- Congrats on the "Call of the Isle." -- Carny

Bootleg Patch -- Congrats on "Call of the Isle!" We hope you will understand that we
are unable to send you off to the Isle with the esteemed W.A.K. award (Without a
Kill). -- Carny

Dreidensmurf -- Good fight! -- Gleeellmann

Mordigaw, Imperials -- Welcome! However, I'm sure you were not invited to Aruak by
Doc Steele. You see, Doc Steele is an urban legend. -- Carny, Carnival

Enron -- Bold challenge. -- Nugatory

Big Bag -- You should use a halberd. -- Killa Kupcake

Errata -- It's been awhile. -- Carny

Leeta -- Not a growth potion. I think Noblish Island has sent their latest
graduates. About time. -- Carny

Chival-R-Us -- We have some "noxious ingredients" we'd like you to sell in the shop.
-- Carny

Tankesh -- I'll take the liberty to speak for all. The newest and oldest. Everyone
with the effulgence of honor, fidelity, heroism and righteousness welcomes your
posting of our fair city's rules. Three cheers for Tankesh! Three cheers for
Tankesh! -- Carny

Let it be known that Since You're Gone is managed by Alfredo Frothingslosh of the
Frothingslosh Syndicate, an enthusiastic member of the cross-alliance brotherhood
known as the Invading Forces. I will challenge up, down, and sideways. I will use
high kill desires and instruct my warriors to aim for the vitals whenever it is to
their advantage. I will bloodfeud, or choose not to when it is to my benefit. I
follow my own moral code, and refuse to follow blindly along with the ludicrous
rantings of lesser managers. I make waves and jostle feathers whenever possible. I
love chaos; I live for antagonism. My warriors will bloody their swords against
whomever is unfortunate to cross their paths. I follow my own rules; I am my own
man. I am -- Alfredo Frothingslosh, mgr. of Since You're Gone

The Saint -- Note the above ad for your records. Thank you. -- AF

Got it. -- The Saint, keeper of lists

Guardian -- Glad to see you've decided to join the scuffle! I don't know how "giant"
that lizard is, but I certainly appreciate the compliment. -- Alfredo

Tripwire -- I like your style. Welcome. -- Alfredo

Bart Wellens of Crossed Up -- The Duelmaster always drinks free at The Bulldog Inn.
Enjoy. -- Kennelworth, Proprietor

     Welcome back! -- Ed.

Doc Steele -- The Bulldog is a friendly place. Even you and your cohorts are
welcome. -- Kennelworth

Consortium Crap? Oh, Mr. Crip, you are sooo cruel. -- Kennelworth

Adie, my dear, The Inn looks wonderful! You did wonders with the place in my
absence. What are those portraits on The Wall of Fame, as my eyes seem to be failing
in my old age? Are you going to stay on and help me run the place? I have to have
someone to will it to when I go to that Great Arena In The Sky. -- Kennelworth

Tankesh -- We agree in total with a friendly reminder to newbies. The Aruak City
Credo is very important to the Heart and Soul of Andoria. -- Kennelworth

Generalissimo -- It has been a long time. -- Kennelworth

To All -- I am pleased to be back. The Bulldogs will be "woofing" it up! Health!
Humility! Honor!

Frothingsloshers -- We welcome your "noise" at The Bulldog Inn. It adds to the
personals! -- Kennelworth

Welcome to the invaders, and that team that paid off the commission to get a transfer
from 73 also. No hard feelings, I just wish I knew how you pulled it off!

Strategery -- You must be living right because I was about to go 'Crazy Train' on
your ass! -- Randy Rhoads

Please welcome my two newest members. They are a little bit different from what I
normally field for this arena. They had been asking to get on this team for a while
but I had to turn them down due to their general nature. Well since a plague has
descended upon our fair city I have decided to let these 2 'rippers' join my team.
So please welcome my 'Defenders of the Faith', Glenn Tipton and KK Downing! -- Street
Legal

*looks around hesitantly* -- Well no Doc Steele yet. Could I be so lucky? Probably
not. At least I got another 2 weeks to prepare for my lesson. -- Street Legal

Beavers are for ROAD KILL!!!

Kennelworth -- A mighty fine welcome back to you. For a while I thought we may not
see the likes of you again. But I knew you would answer the call to defend the city
that bears The Bulldog Inn! I tell you what, I'll by the rounds for you at your
welcome back party! -- Street Legal

To the out of town defenders, a heartfelt thank you to answering the call to defend
the heart of the Andorian Nation and to repel the imperialistic hordes descending
upon our town like a plague of locusts. May the gods find us well in the end! --
Street Legal

Ron Weasley -- So close, so close. Maybe if there's a next time. Thank you for the
lesson though, I learned a lot. -- Segallion
P.S. Great hair!

Bennett -- <yawn> Figures. -- Zlatina

Fur -- It sure took you a lot of effort to beat me. If you knew what I knew, you
wouldn't be so proud of your victory. -- Branford

Barmaid-P.-T. -- You're a downchallenging scum! Who knew! -- Eliza

Tai-Chihuahua -- Not only are you a downchallenging scum, I don't like your aiming at
my head. Keep it up, and you'll be on the shit list. Nobody here likes such
cowardly moves. -- Kalidor

All -- Did someone say killin'? Well, it's time to let the W/L record go, and let
the killin' show. :) -- SOL, mgr. Solapalooza

Land of Flush -- Excuse me! I wasn't expecting something quite like that. -- Kedro
P.S. Golems just aren't my thing.
P.P.S. But thanks for the skill. Those are always handy.

40Oz Virtue Gulp -- Those things always make my stomach hurt. -- Windbreak
P.S. Geeze, I just noticed, me a Convincian? I thought I was a Shew. Odd.

Lukarian Lamorak -- Why do I feel no need to speak to you? Is it because other
warriors under your management never speak? -- Jughead Trilby

Leeta -- Don't we have some kind of guild rule that if we can be SURE somebody's not
going to talk, we don't have to talk to them? -- Jughead Trilby

Jug -- Only when I'm feeling annoyed. I'll let you know when you can slack off. --
Leeta

Nixie Seasprite -- (sullenly) Not that you'll say anything, but here is your
personal. Phbbbttt! -- Nila Sundancer

Fenris -- Uh...good fight. -- Dumb Rocky

Dr. Mabuse, Hannibal, and any other managers with or without warriors that are
supposed to be welcomed this turn--Welcome. -- Leeta, Krill Cavalry, short on time
and attention

Bootleg Patchwork -- You may not have realized it, but the Patchwork Girl and others
of your ilk were in fashion and demand this past month. One of those mysteries of
the universe. -- Leeta

Generalissimo Puerco -- Congratulations. -- Leeta

Seems like every time I turn around, somebody's sloshing froth around. Though
wasteful, it does cool the air. And it's always good (and unusual these days) to see
an arena bursting at the seams. -- Leeta, Krill Cavalry (a.k.a. Jorja in the Free
Blades region and Nick in the Federation)

Aruak -- Ok, this was supposed to be in last turn. It is clear that the subterfuge
is no longer necessary and that the battle for Disney Arena is at hand. I have
relieved my proxy Master Poe, to take the reins of my team personally. Good? Bad?
I'm the guy with the 10 Kill Desire. Please bring your prima-ballerinas to the
arena. Impose your "justice" to the best of your meager abilities. I care not. I
am here to kick ass and chew bubblegum, and I'm all outta bubblegum. -- Chazz
Frothingslosh for Shaolin-ish

Tankesh, Street Legal and the other defenders of the Aruak Way of Life -- No doubt
you will be "busting" me for my downchallenge, attempted homicides of your guys last
turn. Get used to it. We declare the Code of Aruak to be null and void. The Age of
Frothingslosh has begun. Realize this. Your pilsner and wheat sipping, sewing
circle are faced with porter and dopplebock-fortified brutes with blood-alcohol
levels that make pain and even death barely noticeable. We bleed barleywine and our
belches reverberate the heavens. Be afraid. Be very afraid. -- Chazz

Street Legal -- Well, this is going quite nicely, isn't it? While I'd hoped for our
warriors to sneak into position a bit more and have a chance to be doing synchronized
swan dives right on top of a bunch of unsuspecting wielders of padded swords, I'm
almost more excited to be killing warriors who have taken some initiative and down-
challenged me with a scream on their lips and bloodthirst in their eyes. You don't
think we'd be silly enough to bring teams here full of weak-kneed fumblers, do you?
I'm personally quite happy with my squad and their development, even if they're
having to be sent marching off a cliff in the night to get them whipped into shape.
So keep them coming, we spent a pretty penny on new swords, so we're eager to test
their edges. -- Manray, Marquis d'Frothingslosh

Tony McAlpine, Lonnie Johnson or Randy Rhoads -- I've studied you all, flipping your
silken locks about as you wield your axes with pomp and precision. Which of you will
dare face me, the killer of your stablemate? I hope your blood is as tasty as
his.... *lap, slurp, slurp* Mmmm...nothing like cleaning a sword after a duel.... --
Darth Pretzel

Randy R. -- Now don't listen to Darth Pretzel, he's just a braggart! But still, I
hope you don't go off and bloodfeud him, I'm looking forward to a rematch with you.
I don't want my last interaction of ours to be Darth sticking his sword in my face
taunting me with pleadings to see how you taste...I'm just not like that. It ain't
the actions of a thinking man.... -- Strategery

Strategery -- Wuss. -- Darth Pretzel

Strategery -- Yeah...c'mon, anything is worth trying once.... -- Crusader Joe

Crusader Joe -- HA! Does that include the Dark Arena? -- Strategery

Strategery -- Yeah, ha ha...if I win, you can lick my sword, punk! And my scimitar
too! -- Crusader Joe

Bulletproof Monk -- You are no doubt set up quite nicely for when you happen to cross
paths with a striker who is well suited to the UZI. -- Prez. Chimp

U.B.O.S.M. -- Mmmmm...slashers...leathery skin on the outside, sweet pulpy fruit on
the inside.... _slurp, drool_ -- Steel Monkey

Hmmmm, I hope some of those self-proclaimed 'defenders of Aruak City' show up soon,
I'd hate for us to precipitate such a bloody frenzy that we don't have any targets to
place our cross-hairs on after a few turns.... -- Manray

Tankesh -- I see you have lots of delicious little morsels down here in the inits for
us to chew on, eh? Hmmm...I bet you can't wait for our invading forces to disperse
themselves throughout the ranks a bit more, I'm sure...but then that would mean that
death would be stalking your teams at every corner, instead of simply every corner of
the adepts and below...well, you can't always get what you want...but if you try
sometimes, you just might find...you'll get what you need, oooooh yeeaah.... --
Manray 'Mickey' d'Frothingslosh

Doc, Doc, my freshly cleaned sword for a Doc!

I'm itchin' to be given a reward for killin' me some Giro Peleton warriors. On top
of it, they're droppin' like flies! I gotta beat people to the punch, here. Do me
some wily challengin', some slippin' and slidin'.... -- Steel Monkey

Shaolinish -- Nice forms work. Think you could be layin' a few humanish forms out on
slabs anytime soon? Eh? Eh? Let's see it! -- Manray 'Snappy Dragontail' F.

Seer King -- I see funeral processions in the future... -- Manray

Ebenezer -- I love what you've done with the Virtue-Mart lately! The nickel arcade
is perfect next to the haberdashery...nice selection of white hats you got in
there...they must be quite a bargain these days.... -- Manray

18 July 2003
To All Managers -- I would like to take this time to announce that my alliance, The
Association, is no more. Due to the dead weight managers of the alliance and their
lack of participation, DarkSpirit and I have formed a new alliance: The Firm. We
have taken on two members so far and are looking for a few more. If you would like
to find out more about The Firm, you can diplo Dark Spirit, Unknowns XX in arena 15
or myself, Sungod, Sadists F2FII in arena 62.
                               --* The Firm *--
                    Sungod -- Sadists F2FII -- 62
                    Dark Spirit -- Unknowns XX -- 15
                    Youngblood -- Wensinwasin -- 43
Tripwire -- Of Wolf and Man -- 1

26 July 2003
Citizens of Alastari, a bright dawn has risen. While you slept, a pernicious
force has entered the once-fair City of Aruak. It fought alongside their treasured
warriors, it drank with their fans, and it slept with their women. Now the masks are
coming off.
Warriors, be afraid...be very afraid. After years of Andorian managers ranting
that Aruak is the safest city in Alastari, the Frothingslosh Syndicate has selected
Aruak City as the home for its next epic 'contest'--Murder by Numbers II. Our spies
have selected the warriors for extermination, and the executioners have had several
months to prepare. Now a new age of darkness will descend upon Aruak, as the
Syndicate and its allies bring an entirely new level of competition to the arena!
Downchallenges! Assassinations! Small poodles as hors d'oeuvres!
The Murder by Numbers II 'rules' will be announced next cycle. However, we
invite all managers, from all corners of Alastari, to come to Aruak City and take
part...in one way or another. Help defend the honor of a long heralded haven for the
pure, or join the forces of change in their siege of the ice-cream and cake
stronghold of the Dukes of Nerf-Dueling!
This exercise is not for either the faint of heart or the weak willed. Blood
will flow, brains will leak, and beer will be chugged. Either way, we welcome you
with open arms and gleaming blades.
This public service announcement has been brought to you by Frothingslosh Epic
Contests (tm), the number 86, and the letter 'K'.

The Frothingslosh Syndicate

Yes, it's time again for alliances to go to war! TW3 will be held in DM 47
(North Fork) at a date to be specified later--right after Crip's Incomprehensible
Contest is over...but I'm sure everyone wants to get their teams there soon! Here
are the rules:

1. Each alliance must have a leader declare the arrival of his alliance. The leader
will be responsible for verifying any and all teams/managers who declare to the
    alliance he/she is leading.
2. Each manager, team declaring for the contest must have approval of the leader,
donate one Roll-up Certificate ($5) to the prize pot (send it to me by diplo, by
snail, or a note to customer service), and declare his/her team by diplo, p-ad or
    snail.
3. Each team may declare one warrior as champion. All points scored by a champ are
    double!
4. Prizes are as follows (mostly...there WILL be some things added as the prize pot
grows with entry donations--this list is not final!)
    * Highest scoring alliance -- Rename Arena 47 for a period of 6 months, one half
of the total prize pot donated; roll-up certs.
    * The Alliance with the most returns from the DA will get to re-name the DA
monsters for a period of 6 months.
    * The alliance with the most warriors listed as style masters will get to pick
the Alastari city/arena to host the next Grand Tournament.
    * The warrior with the most front page honors/awards will have the Arenamaster
named after him for a period of 6 months.
    * The Alliance with the most front page Honors/Awards will have the honor of
picking the *slow* arena to host the Fifth Annual Turf War.
    * The team with the most listings as Style Master will find out the favorites of
       one of their warriors.
    * The warrior with the most listings as Style Master will fight at my expense
for five turns (I will transfer to the manager's account).
    * The Alliance with the most kills will be able to re-name the stand-in warriors
for a period of 6 months.
    * The warrior that scores the most total points will fight at my expense for 5
turns (I will transfer $7.50 to the manager's account).
    * The team that scores the most total points will receive an extra share of
roll-up certs from the prize pot.
There may be more categories to come, and the prize pot still has to be
divided...I'm open to category/prize ideas--and further donations to the prize pot.
The contest will run for *TEN* turns; prizes will be awarded at the end of the
11th turn.
     Scoring will be as follows:
* 5 points per fight, doubled for each of the following conditions met:
     -- Two Alliance -- Champion
     -- Challenge -- Two Champions
     -- Bloodfeud -- Challenger losing
     -- Kill
(Note: DA losses are exempt, but DA wins will be *tripled*!!! Ex: Happy
Slasher goes to the DA and dies, no points are lost. If he wins, his team scores 60
points! If he was a champ, he scores 120 points!)
Use the following chart to calculate scores:
Conditions Met: 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7
Points Per Fight: 5 10 20 40 80 160 320 640
* Awards/Honors and Style Masters will each be awarded points also. Find the total
number of each (do note add Awards and Style Masters together) and consult the graph
below. Champs that score an award or style master count as two.
     1 -- 5 7 -- 320
     2 -- 10 8 -- 640
     3 -- 20 9 -- 1280
     4 -- 40 10 -- 2560
     5 -- 80 11 -- 5280
     6 -- 100 (x2 for each extra)
Note -- These categories *count as "triple"*--they will be figured for each team,
*AND* again for each alliance *as well as* for each warrior!
* Each and every mention in the Spy Report is worth 5 points...period.
* TVs will be scored on the same scale as Awards/Style Masters, but the total points
will be x10. TC's will be scored as TV's, but x10 more.
Number of TV/TC's Points Scored (TV/TC)
     1 50/ 500
     2 100/1000
     3 200/2000
     4 400/4000
     + x2/ x2 (for each extra)
Each alliance will start with 5000 points, scores for *fights* will be added to
the winner's total *AND* deducted from the losers.
Come one and all, defend your turf and the honor of your alliance...or your
own!

1 August 2003
Assurnasirbanipal invites you to Talcama to participate in the third BATTLE
ROYAL contest. It is a Delarquan contest so brutal that even some of Talcama's most
notable managers will refuse to participate. The rules are simpler than any other
contest: You may not avoid any other contest team. There are no silly rules for who
can and can't compete. Any team in Talcama is eligible to compete. The scoring is
also quite simple (+1 for a win, +1 for a kill (+1 for the win), -1 for a loss) and
the first team to reach 25 points is the winner.
Scoring will be live--the results for the turn posted in the newsletter. The
winner will be able to fight their contest team in Talcama for free for 6 months but
more importantly will win a contest against some of the best managers who play the
game in one of the hardest contests in the game.
First turn for BATTLE ROYAL 3 is Talcama Turn 465, which is due August 30.
