TEAM SPOTLIGHT
Here's what I have for managers in Aruak City. These are teams listed last turn. If
I've gotten anyone's name wrong, just let me know and I'll fix it. I know some of
them may not be current; I didn't have a chance to update my list before doing this.

Happy New Turn, Aruak masses, and welcome to round 2 of the Aruak City Murder By
Numbers.
We understand that consternation resulting in a stylish 'petulant frenzy' over
in the 4-H section has been aired. Ah, self-expression. Dainty decoration on the
buttock of culture. Expel noisome wind at your leisure, citizens of villa la creme.
We assure you, good people, this contest is fair. This box-with-knobs on the
table before me, with the 'fair-list-o-meter' seal of approval on the side next to
the Sony logotype--so you know it's got to be good--this box...is the ultimate
randomizer. (shakes box) It creates lists that are balanced and fair (reading tape
of data looping out the top) in every way using (shake-shake-shake) the most advanced
technologies (shake-shake-shake) available to the corporate world (shake yo booot-
ay!).
So, standing here with turn 2's list in-hand, we have to ponder the future.
Certainly there have been warriors who sought to avoid death by not making his (or
her) way to the arena this turn.
Excellent!
So quickly. It is certainly an interesting strategy. Defend Aruak simply by
not fighting. Genius! It's like pushing buttons. Don't want a warrior to play? We
find them on the list. Whole team annoying? Whole team goes.
So, look for that this turn, and every turn hereafter: one team will have every
ranked warrior placed on the MBN list (it is already possible to have more than one
warrior on the list at any time).
And while we're at it, we're making the DM position an automatic placement on
the MBN list. Get DM, get on the list for one turn, per turn as DM. No matter who.
We or you. No offense. Well, OK, a little offense.
Perhaps the MBN is the real list. Perhaps it's the second list. Maybe the
anti-list. Some say the guest list.
So, these lists aren't necessarily the warriors we most want dead--we want
everyone dead--these are just the clay pigeons that have a target on them for the
next turn...well, maybe more.
Glory in Death. Hail Biff!

This is a list of what I could decipher of who is what. The second group of
Defenders I never could figure out exactly whether or not they were or not, but seems
to be by comments in personals.
Please diplo me if I have mistakenly added your team to this list or put it in
the wrong category, or not added you to it yet.
I am very interested in keeping tabs on how the Invasion and Defenders are
going. I may post standings and records that reflect only fights that have happened
since the arrival of Invaders. And whether or not Neutral teams are being targeted
and killed.
As a neutral spectator I have concerted interest in whether or not the war is
staying within its boundaries. And I want to make sure not to challenge any of the
Defenders or Invaders so not to get mixed up in things. -- Mordigan, The Imperials

ARUAK'S BIG MONEY RAFFLES-RAFFLES-RAFFLES
HURRY! HURRY! HURRY! WIN BIG! WIN BIG! STEP RIGHT UP! Closer! We have the BIG
MONEY RAFFLES HERE!!! You there! Yes, you with the fingers playing an invisible
harp. Step closer. Don't be timid. No one in Aruak City will bite you. This is
Aruak City you know. What's your name?...Hmmm! That seems to be a tough question
for you...Maybe I should have started with an easier one...I'll try again...Read my
lips...What--is--your--name?...What? Oh, Doc Steele you say. Give him a hand,
folks; he knows his name...You know, stranger, I should have expected you were Doc
Steele. You know half of the new managers who arrived here in town all claim to be
Doc Steele so why should you not be Doc Steele. Now I, not for a minute, believe
there really is a Doc Steele. All a myth, I say, but what do I really know. I just
sell raffle tickets. If you are a doctor maybe you can tell me why my lady love
loses her appetite after eating a 12 course meal...You have no idea you say...Good
answer. At least you didn't try to sell me a pill. You know Doc, I do wish you
would stop playing your invisible harp while I'm working, you might poke someone's
eye. You know, my musical friend, if you really are Doc Steele you should be
interested in the new big money raffles as many of them pertain to you...What? You
are interested?...Give the Doc a hand, folks...He's a good sport...SO LISTEN UP!!!
Folks, partake of our brand new raffles. Win big...Something for everyone. Kiddies
are invited. They are not random games of chance!!! They are actual events that
will occur, just as the sun will rise, or my name's not the UMBRELLA MAN...Now
everyone step up. Have your money in your hand. A writing stub will be provided.
For you new arrivals who are not Andorian one of my lovely assistants will write for
you if writing is a problem. Play only one or have more fun and play them all. To
play you need only write in the date these actual events WILL OCCUR...Try raffle
#1...Write the date it dawns on the Invaders that the invasion was not a secret...
Or...#2...The date the invaders brawl with each other over who is revealing their
'secrets'...#3...The date a team calling itself 'WOLVERINES' arrives...#4...The date
the Invaders start to whine...#5...The date Frothingslosh attacks Doc Steele...#6...
The date Doc Steele attacks Hammer...#7...The date Hammer attacks Frothingslosh...
#8...The date Doc Steele attacks Frothingslosh...#9...The date Frothingslosh attacks
Hammer...And #10...THE DATE THE ARENA STARTS TO SHRINK AS THE INVADERS REALIZE THEY
ARE IN A BUBBLE AND START TO SKITTER AWAY...Remember, you pick the date these actual
events will occur, or my name's not the...

Teriz rounded the corner to the training area he hadn't seen in years, obeying
the mental summoning. He thought about what this meant for a moment before driving
the thought down. He knew the feeling in Aruak City had changed recently and stayed
focused on the matter at hand.
As he glanced around the corner that led to the sparring area, he saw them.
Brother and sister. He was tall for a local, dressed well with bracers made of iron.
She, too, was tall for a local but was slight in comparison.
"What of your other sister, Tantus?" he asked the man as he stepped out of the
shadows.
"Right behind you," was the whisper he heard, but when he turned there was no
one there.
"Don't mess with the boy, Pen'de. The times are serious. You would do well to
learn..." was all the tall warrior had time to speak before an electric blue light,
at first the size of a pinprick that grew to seven feet in diameter, came into
existence.
Out of it stepped a broad shouldered man, cloaked and carrying a staff.
"Why have you brought us back here?" asked the girl who had drawn her hammer at
the birth of the light.
"Be at ease, Badome. I have brought you four together because the way of life
here in Aruak has been threatened. The old ways are in danger," was the staff-
wielder's response.
"You left us years ago. Why return now?" she said with a growl.
"Because this world needed me at other places...other times. Now this world
needs me here, now. I will fight to protect this city, the one place I can call
home. And You will help me, my warriors. Damage, Inc. will return to the arena and
I, Razorback, will lead you once more."

Not in Zuwayza:
The change from the sunlit courtyard to the shuttered interior of the house was
abrupt and extreme enough to blind Tankesh temporarily. He blinked impatiently,
trying to clear his vision, and blundered after the old man as soon as he could see
vague outlines. Furniture seemed to leap out and bite him in the shins. When his
eyes finally adjusted to the shadowed interior of the building, he saw that he was in
a long hallway with arches opening off both sides. The old man was just disappearing
through one half way down on the left. Tankesh hurried after him.
The room was bare and dark, lit only by a single candle, although the
whitewashed walls made it seem brighter than it actually was. The old man was
kneeling on the floor, which was of tile, white tile with black and red and gold ones
inlaid in a series of concentric circles. It looked too much like a target for
Tankesh's comfort; he supposed that was just his imagination. He hoped that's all it
was. He squinted at the symbols the old man was drawing in some of the rings, but
they meant nothing to him. Well, he didn't expect they would. Adie would probably
recognize them, though. Could he remember enough detail to describe them to here
when he got back?
The old man stood up cautiously, one hand on the small of his back. He pointed
with his stick of chalk to a spot in one of the outer rings. "Stand there, young
man, and ask no questions. Pay attention and watch for the proper place to get off.
This is simple, but not easy."
The elf stood where he had been directed and watched the old man take his place
in the center of the circle. "Proper place to get off?"
"When the rim of the circle passes through your world," the old man said.
Sliding his sleeves back on arms like withered sticks, he began to chant.
It was, or it felt like, several minutes before he saw the arch to the hallway
pass in front of him and realized that the circle was rotating. He glanced down, but
there seemed to be no change in the tiles under his feet. Back up, as a corner of
the room slid by, quickly followed by the next one. Definitely rotating, and picking
up speed, too. "When the rim of the circle passes through my world," he muttered.
"How will I know that, unless there happen to be landmarks in sight?"
The old man didn't answer. Tankesh hadn't really expected him to. The walls
blurred and vanished, to be replaced by a seascape with waves breaking on a beach of
white sand and on rocks farther out. A wave sliding inward at the end of its course
dampened the toe of one boot. Pleasant looking, but nothing familiar. Another blur.
A forest of standing stones lit by bluish light from two moons, both near full, and a
smell of fresh-spilled blood. A blur. A true forest, trees like columns reaching
into a green darkness overhead, mist, and a smell of things growing and dying. It
called to something in his elven heritage, but it was not where he needed to be. A
blur that seemed to last longer than the others, there was a hesitation and a pulsing
red light half way through it. Something they weren't going to stop for. Just as
well, that light looked like it might be fire. A large vaulted chamber, the image
wavering slightly and indistinct at any distance from his apparent location. Voices
speaking akhadic. He tried to step out of the circle, but it was like moving through
cold tar. The view began to blur, and he forced himself outward, throwing himself to
the floor outside the circle in a dive.
It seemed to take forever to fall, his motion slowed to the point where he
wasn't even sure he was moving at all. And then there was a sort of soundless click,
and the floor came up fast and hard, knocking the breath out of him as he hit and
rolled.

DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
Notes from the arena champ.
Well, I must say, that was my favorite victory to date. My thanks to Nubian for
that fine match and for not avoiding me. I only need to win two more and I'm outta
here, so it looks like I'll be challenging for those wins. That means Glleellmann
will NOT be getting my challenge, as I don't feel like bouncing my attacks off a
target dummy until I fall over from exhaustion. So Hushpuupy's out, too. I guess,
out of the active CCs, that only leaves...wait...what's that?...Guardian?...managed
by Talon Volksie?...well, I guess I'll just have to give him one shot at the throne,
for old times sake.
Your Duelmaster,
Vajra Valmejar,
Scarlet Knight
SPY REPORT
It is I, Novgorodny Vir, Spymaster of Spymasters. Look on my work, ye mighty,
and despair! The boys at MENS REA left the arena dejected, after being kicked out of
the top spot by SOLAPALOOZA. Good show! Like a chunk of francium heaved into a wet
pond, NIGHT'S GUARDIANS blew up the rankings to 34! Perhaps it is SCARLET KNIGHTS II
members' intannibility that enabled them to move from 31st to 12th last week...
(Less time in the sun...) Managers were muttering after NEVERWAKE showed ARUAK CITY
what they could do: 4-1-1 to move up by 39. Perhaps it is FISH MONGERS III members'
intannibility that enabled them to move from 38th to 16th last week... (Less time in
the sun...) Thinking about sending their team manager to the Dark Arena is VIEW
ASKEW, after suffering a 15 drop in ranking. Like a chunk of francium heaved into a
wet pond, ..*..SUNGOD..*.. blew up the rankings to 13! Managers were muttering after
ABC'S showed ARUAK CITY what they could do: 2-3-0 to move up by 13. Perhaps it is
ANGLES OF DEATH members' intannibility that enabled them to move from 52nd to 24th
last week... (Less time in the sun...) Like a chunk of francium heaved into a wet
pond, CLUB HAMMER blew up the rankings to 11! Managers were muttering after KRILL
CAVALRY showed ARUAK CITY what they could do: 2-2-0 to move up by 18. Like a chunk
of francium heaved into a wet pond, YA GOTTA WINCE... blew up the rankings to 13!
Perhaps it is SEER KING members' intannibility that enabled them to move from 43rd to
30th last week... (Less time in the sun...) Like a chunk of francium heaved into a
wet pond, CANNIBALZ blew up the rankings to 28! Managers were muttering after
ELFQUEST showed ARUAK CITY what they could do: 3-2-0 to move up by 28. The boys at
SINCE YOU'RE GONE aren't the happy-go-lucky bunch we all know and love, after
suffering a 12 drop last week. Rumor has it an incurable disease has swept the
stable of SHAOLIN-ISH. Note their drop in the rankings from 20th to 35th. Watch
out!!! Thinking about sending their team manager to the Dark Arena is MANIC MARVELS,
after suffering a 15 drop in ranking. The boys at VELVET GREEN aren't the
happy-go-lucky bunch we all know and love, after suffering a 19 drop last week.
Rumor has it an incurable disease has swept the stable of THE IMPERIALS. Note their
drop in the rankings from 18th to 46th. Watch out!!! Thinking about sending their
team manager to the Dark Arena is ERRATA, after suffering a 32 drop in ranking.
Perhaps it is COLORIFIC members' intannibility that enabled them to move from 70th to
50th last week... (Less time in the sun...) Like a chunk of francium heaved into a
wet pond, BRAT PACK II blew up the rankings to 11! The boys at GERFEL'S FRIENDS
aren't the happy-go-lucky bunch we all know and love, after suffering a 43 drop last
week. Say what you will about blind luck and dirty fighting, but BEAVERS ARE FOR
will tell you 18-11-2 is nothing to laugh at... The boys at MIKE'S MORGUE are
walking tall, as they are ranked 48th on their first try! Going for the Duelmaster
soon? BEAVERS ARE FOR had cause to celebrate, after MAKING HATS got 24 points by
beating THE GREAT SAMARITAN. CRISSY certainly had a baffled expression on hers face,
after losing to KAHVI and losing 16 points in the process! VAJRA VALMEJAR
successfully staved off a grab for the roses by ORANGE OSPREY of ANIMAL FARM. Does
ARUAK CITY have no one talented enough to dethrone her? Word has it one team in
ARUAK CITY is taking speech lessons to try to bore their opponent to death. I'll bet
it works.
A Zenmaster once told me, 'Does not the spinning wheel turn? And do not the
little birds cry out?' Any ideas? Like the noble eagle soaring amongst the
mountaintops, so stand the warriors of TUFT TUGGERS, alone and unchallenged. As a
woman of good breeding scorns the "warriors" of PATRONAS VERITAS, so did that sorry
team shy from TUFT TUGGERS Everyone is famous for fifteen minutes, and T.S. QUINT is
it right now. Most challenged warrior. Isn't VIEW ASKEW proud! Do my ears deceive
me? THAAR HAMARHAND (outclassed by 28 points) challenged SUMTHING PAINFUL, in what
promises to be a fight.(!) It's not whether you win or lose, but how many points you
get (3). Right, THAAR HAMARHAND? Them's the breaks, DOG-TIRED. Expecting fair
challenges from WOLFBROTHERS is evidently too much to ask. ONEWOLF bested DOG-TIRED
with a point difference of 29. So this is what ARUAK CITY calls a duel. This will
make an interesting tale. As a confidence booster, FRED WEASLEY challenged STEEL
MONKEY, down 22 points. Do you also slay vicious rodents in your spare time, FRED
WEASLEY? FRED WEASLEY won victory over STEEL MONKEY. The whole thing leaves a
bitter memory. Take heed ARUAK CITY, of the unprincipled action of FUR. By
challenging BOOTSTRAP RIBEYE, 25 points below him, FUR besmirches the noble art of
dueling. Warriors of ARUAK CITY! Do you wish your reputations tainted by the base
challenge of FUR? Call 'im brash! Call 'im brassy! Call 'im brave! Call 'im
sassy! DEATHBRINGER will face SALENA WARSMITH, up by 30. Aaaah, just call 'im dead
meat. Soopreyes, soopreyes! DEATHBRINGER emerges from the fray 1 points the richer.
Good show, DEATHBRINGER!
Ah, the duel! The roar of the oppenent, the smell of the crowd! Hey YOUNG
JUSTICE! Is there some deep dark, unmentionable secret as to why ROBIN has been sent
to the Dark Arena? 3-1-0 isn't so shabby! Sober up, young warriors, and take note
of WARDUKE's fate! PRESIDENT CHIMP of BAD HEIR DAY handily did him in. Experience
counts for something on ARUAK CITY's sands. I hear BARMAID-PALMS-TIP of SHAOLIN-ISH
tired of the battles and was thinking of becoming a priest. DONT KILL ME of
U.B.O.S.M. saved her the effort of getting references. Nothing is certain except
death and more death in these bloody arenas. DARTH PRETZEL of BAD HEIR DAY met its
fate at the hands of K. K. DOWNING. Fair play must not be a credo of BEAVERS ARE
FOR, as FUR permanently removed BOOTSTRAP RIBEYE of GERFEL'S FRIENDS from the
competition in a mismatched fight. Perhaps GIRO PELETON's manager was intending to
send MARTIN DERGANC to the Dark Arena in the first place, seeing as how bloodfeud has
nearly expired. Charity is unknown in ARUAK CITY, and rightly so. CANNIBALZ exacted
their revenge against DRAGON JUNKIES S.S.. Justice was served as SECRET fought
SILENCE in bloodfeud. Well done, YOUNG JUSTICE! Oh hard! that to strike a flame,
the match itself must needs be wasting!
Leave me now, you base fools! More important duties call me. Do not despair!
I shall return!-- Novgorodny Vir

Street Legal -- Yes, I am very aware of my leaving the Vcartel, and so are my
warriors, so if you want to address anyone, or make any kind of threats to anyone,
make them out to me. Yes, I am an invader, so if that pits me against managers with
whom I was once allied, so be it. As Doc said, if you want to make a big deal about
a very small percentage that very small percentage will rapidly increase. Maybe not
by me alone, well, definitely not me alone. So if you say so, I look forward to your
advances towards Apache or any other of my warriors in this arena. There will be no
holding back on my part, they will run as if they didn't kill. -- Youngblood, manager
of Dragon Junkies S.S., the FIRM
Hanibal -- Well, Gun Metal is still alive and yet again he wins against one of your
warriors. As I told Street Legal, make all threats against me; the only thing my
warriors will be concentrating on is bloodying their weapons on any manager's warrior
who has a problem with the way I run. Oh yeah, 11-6 against a 1-0-1 warrior seems
unfair, but looks, as you know by now, are deceiving. -- Youngblood, the FIRM
All -- I had planned on sending a team to this arena before all this invading/
defending campaign started. Not until a manager that runs in this arena told me how
things are done in this arena (you know who you are) did I decide to side with the
invaders. Now two turns have passed and three are dead at the hands of my team;
doesn't look to good for the defenders so far. I agree that there are (well maybe)
better warriors in this arena than mine, but that, as Hanibal now knows, doesn't
matter. So whether my team turns out to be a dominant force in this arena or a one
hit wonder, it doesn't matter, there will be a lot of six foot deep holes in the
ground when it is all said and done. -- Youngblood, the FIRM
Tank -- If you make a grab for Scrag's Lizard, two things are going to happen.
First, he's going to like it and second, you prolly won't like what's in your hand
and all over your face. He doesn't get out much so he's quite excitable.
Lukarian -- Are you and your manager like Little Timmy? You whine about everything,
scream for entitlement then spend your life wondering why everyone else is always
doing terrible things to you? Clearly you're a pussy. -- Guardian
All -- With all this talk of death and killing, I fear I could not hold back the
Angles of Death any longer. They are now your problem. -- The Preacher
Serenity -- Don't worry, old timer. I am sure you will be put out of you misery very
soon. And hey, look at it like this, the competition is much steeper on the Isle, so
I did you a favor by beating your ass. -- Gun Metal
Armalias -- Do you run any teams above 50%? Doesn't look like it, even in the
regionals your record sucks. You should consider that before you start spouting off
calling your betters nobodies. But then you are just a little punk.... -- Sylvester
Frothingslosh
Angus -- Savo's cooling his heels for the upcoming tournament, though I admit to
being tempted to bring him out for that occasion! Bart got the shot he wanted; but
inexplicably through a normal attack. Oh well, such is dueling life. -- Dr. Mabuse
P.S. Know that I made a ducat or two betting on your man! -- D.M.
Hanibal -- Welcome back!...and where would I go? ;) This is home and always will
be. -- Dr. Mabuse
Kennelworth -- Please be careful when inviting 'Crossed Up warriors to the Bulldog
for spirits...I have a hell of a time getting them back out again! -- Dr. Mabuse,
'Crossed Up & Giro Peleton
Inigo Montoya -- You really, really tired me out, you dog, you. -- Dog-Tired
Burrm? Gee! Sorry Club Hammer, I really didn't want that to happen. Wow! Now
you'll think I'm an Invader or something! -- Beef Bullion
Neville -- It was my day, buddy. The next one is probably yours. -- Hushpuppy
Sumthing Painful -- That was no B.S., huh? Great fight! -- B.S.
Ingrate White Creep -- Our alliance is not bragging over yours now! -- Bark (with no
bite)
Shiver me timbers, mateys. They be some bloody plank-walkin'. Got me eye on them
Wolfbrothers n' Deadman's Hand. Bloody sure! Get me some landlubbers! -- Mino
Windrunner -- I had fun having my way with you. -- Hushpuppy
Gerfel -- Another salute. Nice column. Good luck with The Firm. If I can help in
any way.... -- Kennelworth
Congratulations to the mighty Duelmaster who drinks free at The Bulldog Inn. Vajra
Valmejar -- Salute! -- Kennelworth
Interesting tournament, Frothingdrinkers! For such ingenuity, I'm enhancing your
special sale rate for booze at The Bulldog Inn. One for the price of three. Enjoy!
-- Kennelworth
The pictures look great, Adie! And business is booming! Your politics
recommendation is terrific! -- Kennelworth
Generalissimo, my friend, Chicago Bull, indeed. All you say is true, and my friends
send their Howdys. -- Kennelworth
Adie -- The RUGS of Aruak City have long been known to be the best by their measure,
and the worst by ours. Woe to the manager. -- Kennelworth
Doc -- I guess you didn't get to buy any this past round, so I'll buy your friends a
round for yours and their sorrow. -- Kennelworth
Angus -- Keep The Bulldog open late? There is no late at The Bulldog. We are a full
service, whenever you want it, establishment! Welcome to our town. -- Kennelworth
Carny -- And a salute to you and your humor. -- Kennelworth
Leeta -- Maybe a few slow ones, for the moment. The Great and Wonderful Oz is
definitely back. -- Kennelworth
Doc Steele? Goose stepping, did you say, Armalias? Times will never change. -- Ace
of Talcama
Guardian -- I am certain that if Doc Steele has indeed seen it, it certainly was not
in its most pristine state. -- Alfredo
Guardian -- Well, if your team sucks, there is this wonderful things that they call
the Dark Arena to rid your team of the dead weight. Show what you're made of and
produce a team worth running. -- Alfredo
Dueling Commission -- I understand that you have changed the rules so that managers
may run multiple teams in an arena when they have a team that was from a closed
arena. While I understand your reasoning behind making this change, the net result
is that some managers may run multiple teams in an arena while other may not (those
that have no teams from closed arenas, such as myself). At this time I have no
desire to run multiple teams in Aruak or any other arena for that matter, however
there may come a time in which I do. I am certain that there are likely others in my
position that agree with me. If certain managers are allowed to run multiple teams
in an arena, then ALL should. Let me make it clear that I am not belly-aching about
managers running multiple teams; it doesn't bother me in the slightest. I simply
suggest that the rules should be the same for all. Please consider lifting the one
team per arena restriction for all managers. Thank you for listening. -- Alfredo
Frothingslosh, mgr. of Since You're Gone
I've passed this along to the appropriate people. -- Ed.
Kennelworth -- Your stale ale cannot hold a candle to Olde Frothingslosh. We proudly
brew our own, sirrah! Thanks, but no thanks to your offer, if we do choose to grace
your establishment with our presence, we will bring our own refreshments. -- Alfredo
Tig Toad -- Although we agree with Doc Steele in his approach to "honorable" dueling,
we are minions of no man other than the Powerful and All-knowing Biff "the Boss"
Frothingslosh! We are no more closely associated to Doc Steele than any of the other
invaders, and let me remind you that the Frothingslosh Syndicate had arrived in Aruak
well before Doc Steele and the other invaders did so. -- Alfredo
The Saint -- Definitely looks like it's a good time to put together a manager list
for Aruak. -- Alfredo
Righty-ho. It's in the spotlight section due to size. I've not included
"invader" and "defender" information. For that I'd have to go back over the
last two or three newsletters and I must admit the ming boggles at the thought.
-- The Saint, keeper of lists
SOL -- Nice start! Let's see how long you can keep it up. -- Alfredo
All -- 70 teams and growing. WOW! Originally I was planning to wait for the 2004
FTF to run my tourney-ready warriors, however (finances allowing) I believe that I
will run my entire team once the mail-in freeze date has passed. I just couldn't
stand to miss out on all the fun for three additional months! By the looks of things
Aruak just might balloon to well over 100 teams. Regardless of what side of the
fence you fall, I think most would agree that Aruak is becoming the toughest and most
active arena in all of Alastari. Huzzah! -- Alfredo
Generalissimo Puerco -- Let me inform you of my policy: If I see a challenge I think
favors me in some manner I make it. I repay all down challenges to me on a 10 to one
basis at all levels of the game, in every arena, in every tourney class, and anywhere
I can find your warriors. I'll raise my kill desire in tourneys and I'll follow your
teams to every arena in the game from Mordant to Gateway. Are you sure you want to
go toe to toe with me ? -- Guardian
P.S. Every death I took at the last tourney has had a team activated in the home
arena of the offending warrior and I will be attempting to kill not only the
offending warrior, I'll be attempting to kill his teammates, and his family if
necessary. I'll find that manager's teams wherever they exist and attempt to kill
those too and while this isn't meant to be a direct assault on you, you opened your
mouth.
P.P.S. I just want to be clear on one thing, I'm f'n back.
Talon Volksie -- How disappointing that you have decided to join the so called
invaders. I had thought you better then that. It is said a man can be judged on the
company he keeps and I am afraid your company stinks. I hope you come to your senses
soon before their stench rubs off on you. -- Rillion
In case anyone is too stupid and or lazy to put two and two together, I manage
Mythical and Young Justice. Also until Aruak City returns to its normal self, which
should not be too long, I will be taking over the management of Gryffindor House 2
from my associate Godric Gryffindor. -- Rillion
60 teams, 70 teams, do I hear 80?
Hushpuppy -- You sure quieted me down. -- Neville
Iron Magru -- Get a little tired there? I would advise you challenge more active
warriors in the future. You certainly do not have the endurance to scum a more
thoughtful warrior. -- Fred Weasley
Techno-Pop -- I do not like your beat at all. -- Charlie Weasley
Candy Maker -- I never realized candy making was so boring or slow. And I hate slow.
-- Hermes
Spirit Chaser -- You are as amusing to watch as a dog chasing its own tail. -- Titan
19sz3Df -- Umm., how come I get the feeling you expect to lose a lot of fights? --
Ganymedes
Deranged -- Nice try but remember just because Doc Steele's your manager doesn't mean
you are good. -- Impulse
Kadina -- Better luck next time, you will need it. -- Konel
Merlin -- You must have used magic to win those first three fights cause you did not
impress me at all. And I am not a very good warrior, so it's time for me to give way
to a new replacement. -- Robin
Silence -- Oh goody, I was hoping I'd get at least one chance to bloodfeud someone
into oblivion after my six new replacement warriors made their debut this turn.
Thanks for taking the bait. -- Rillion
TigToad -- Welcome to Aruak City. If you ignore all the riffraff that's running
about screaming for blood, you will find this a very nice city and a fun arena. --
Rillion
Dr. Mabuse -- Don't expect creativity from a 'slosher lemming, they will only
disappoint you. -- Rillion
Nuln -- I've got all your movies on pirated DVD's. A friend gave them to me for
free, so at least I got my money's worth. -- Rillion
P.S. Welcome to Aruak City and good luck against the Lemmingsloshers.
Mordraith -- You actually going to try to back up your words this time or are you
just running your mouth from the sidelines, like usual? -- Rillion
P.S. Yes, you guys made such an improvement to Tarrgir, a shuttered arena speaks
volumes about how much you and your friends add to an arena.
Tripwire -- Seeing Dead People? Try going to the regular fights instead of hanging
out at the Dark Arena all night. You will find lots of live warriors in the Aruaki
Arena and very few deaths. -- Rillion
Sol -- Speaking of ignorant, you do not have to be Andorian to appreciate the Aruak
City way of life. And I guess you do not have higher brain function to realize the
hypocrisy of bring death to this arena while complaining about people pushing their
ways on others. -- Rillion
Generalissimo -- Nice looking slasher there. Congratulations on getting him out. --
Rillion
Tankesh -- I have yet to get one spectacular warrior as a replacement here. I have
gotten quite a few passing replacements but none that have ever gotten me excited. --
Rillion
Street Legal -- In your comment to Fuzzball you said something that I could not
understand, "be you a Frothingslosh or one of the lesser". Now what I can not figure
out is how is it possible for there to be someone that is lesser than a
Frothingslosher? -- Rillion
Mordigan -- You have been misled by the lemmings. There is no such thing as a Kredo-
policeman (no matter how it is spelled). Your desire to remain neutral in this
battle between the lemmings and the patriots of Aruaki City is noted by us Patriots
at least, it will do you no good with the lemmings though since they desire to kill
everyone regardless of affiliation. -- Rillion
Hanibal -- A triple (WT/WL/DF) lunger starts with a decent attack base. Lungers will
eventually learn attack (although generally they learn init and defense faster) so I
would not DA this warrior. -- Rillion
Dreihdensmurf -- You're a yucky blue guy! I didn't know I had to fight yucky blue
guys. -- Jughead the Disconcerted
You must look beyond the surface. -- Ed.
The Great Samaritan -- Are you sure that's what Samaritans are supposed to do? I
thought they were supposed to help people out even when they didn't want to, and
stuff like that. Of course, maybe you were. Maybe that's a sign of something. Hmm.
I'll have to think about this. -- Kedro
Nadine -- ... -- Dumb Rocky
Nadine -- I'm sure if he could figure out how to say it, Rocky would tell you that
was a good fight...at least on your part. -- Leeta
The Iron Yuppie -- Now THAT was definitely a sign. -- Nila Sundancer
P.S. Especially the first minute.
P.P.S. And the second. Looks like I need a strategy change here.
Nila -- Dream on. -- Leeta
Bloodlust -- Bloodlust is all well and good, but there are other, more productive
things for which one could and possibly should lust, you know. -- Kip Hardee
Frothingslosh Syndicate -- I have been involved perforce in your competitions in
Riztab and Bonsur. That the contests brought new teams into the arenas in question
was good, that the teams did not remain after the end of the contest was not
surprising; that is the normal aftermath. That you simply declared all active teams
in the arena to be members of the contest was a surprise the first time, and I
wondered then if you did so because you couldn't get enough participants otherwise.
The number of new teams at the beginning of the contest seemed to belie this, but
towards the end, I noticed that there were none but 'Sloshers and permanent
residents, so maybe that was the reason after all. No matter, the 99 Bottles of Beer
contests were relatively innocuous.
This Murder By Numbers thing is a different matter entirely. It seems to me
that with this contest, you are doing not only Aruak City but the game as a whole a
disservice. That it will result in turning this arena into a snake-pit of hostile
factions seems likely. In the short run, no doubt that would give you satisfaction.
But is it good for Duelmasters as a whole? I honestly don't believe that it is.
Managers have congregated in the Andorian region and specifically in this arena
because they enjoy a particular style of play, as is their right. Many of these
managers do not play in other arenas, most do not play in other regions. I have no
doubt that they will fight, and fiercely, for their views and their home arena, even
if it means suspending the type of play they enjoy. But when the enjoyment is gone,
how long will they continue to play? What advantage, in the long run, is there to
driving players both old and relatively new out of the game entirely? The
Duelmasters community is not a large one. I do not believe that it will benefit by
losing members.
They tell me that you were provoked by boasting on the Roundtable. I don't
know, I'm not a member of the Roundtable. But I can imagine the type and tone of
claims and comments that may have been made. I have heard them before, many times.
There are always people who will boast, you have done it yourselves. There are
always people who are obnoxious about their views, you are not innocent of this. I
understand the reflexive response that says "Let's grind their faces into the sand
until they eat those words." It is a response that comes out of the very foundations
of human personality: they're different, they're yapping, kill them. We have found
other responses to these situations over the millennia, but that is still the first
one, the automatic one. But I have seen the arenas where such competitions have
played out in the past, both during and after the battle. The end result has not
been an arena with better manners, or an arena that at least keeps its collective
mouth shut, or an arena that adopted a new style of play. The result has been a dead
arena. This, too, is not to the long-term benefit of Duelmasters.
I do not demand any action of you--not the alteration or withdrawal of your
contest or any other response. You will do as you wish, which is your right, just as
it is and has always been the right of the players in Aruak City to pursue their own
styles of play. But I do demand that you think about the likely long-term
consequences of this contest. What is important to you in Duelmasters? That
everyone play the same way, that no one boast of the superiority of their views if
those views do not agree with your own...that the game falters and slides a little
closer to the end of its life?
I shall continue, for now, with my standard policy of neither challenging nor
avoiding anyone in this arena. I shall not enlist myself with the ranks of the
active "defenders" of the Aruak City Way. I definitely do not align myself with the
"invaders." But I am not neutral. -- Leeta Stormrider, Krill Cavalry
Kennelworth -- Come to Aradi and we will unite with your dogs! -- Spot, manager of
Red Dog Gang, once of Point
Ace -- Oh, I dunno, Neverware, Deadman's Hand, and Wolfbrothers sounds to ME like the
roster of a rock concert in the sixties. -- Leeta
Mordigan -- Apology noted, an unnecessary courtesy, but a courtesy none the less for
that. All my warriors have records like that. It's because I run everything and
seldom change strategies, challenge, or avoid. -- Leeta, Krill Cavalry
Hanibal, QOW -- If I had a triplet lunger who didn't learn attack skills (assuming I
noticed this, which is problematic), and one of the seventeens was WT, I'd ask myself
what he WAS learning. Maybe he's one of those flukey warriors that comes along from
time to time and seems to defy the pattern of his style. Maybe he should be run as
though he were a defensive style, and the heck with attack skills. -- Leeta
P.S. Does he have any attack ratings already?
Armalias -- That's the spirit! Show us how good you are, tough guy. I hope you have
that kind of moxie a year from now, when this Renaissance Festival has been honed
into the Darwinian fitness factory it has the potential to be. Maybe when this party
is over with, I'll even know what team(s) you manage. -- Chazz
Murder by numbers...one, two, three...five, four, eight, one.
Angus -- Welcome to the newsletter! I'm sorry that you did not speak up earlier.
Good luck in Aruak City. -- Generalissimo Puerco
Congrats to Jughead and all of our recently-made Lord Protectors. -- Generalissimo
Puerco
Garfield, Nuln -- Welcome back to Aruak. -- Generalissimo Puerco
QoW -- The way I see it, a triplet lunger that won't learn attack skills is a lot
more favorable than a 13-17-11 wt/wl/df lunger than won't. I don't write off a
lunger just because of a stubbornness they have toward attack skills; I'd go through
a lot of lungers that way. Try and fight warriors with an equal inability to learn
parry and defense, and your guy should be fine. -- Generalissimo Puerco
Hanibal -- Interestingly enough, the first few styles I graduated seemed easy. It
was the last two, basher and ripper, that gave me headaches. You know how far along
I was with Vegetarian Vagrant when she died. -- Generalissimo Puerco
Bulldogs -- I didn't get a chance to welcome you back. I hope you stick around for a
while. Good luck. -- Dartor
Gerfels -- Yes I was in shock. This is the most teams we've ever had in the arena.
We will see how long this lasts. Congrats on getting all styles to advanced. I
personally only need to get parry-lunge from this arena to have all graduate also.
Thanks for the good wishes. -- Dartor
Talon Volksie -- I'm sorely disappointed to see this out of you. We've battled side-
by-side, honorably, for many years in Andorak. That all ends now. You have named
yourself my enemy...so be it. -- Armalias
Mordraith -- The heck with you. -- Armalias
Tripwire -- You'll be seeing a lot more, unless I miss my guess. Best of luck...I
think you'll need it. -- Armalias
Sol -- The heck with you, too. It is YOU and your idiot fellows who have awakened a
sleeping giant. More than one, in fact, as the Consortium is back as well. I may
have been running for the last few years, but I've paid very little attention. No
more. Thanks to you and yours for that, at least. -- Armalias
Q.O.W. -- Depends on if he's +4 defense or not. Lukarian didn't learn attack, and
look how well he did!?! He would have done better if I'd only paid more attention...
like I'm now doing. -- Armalias
Hanibal -- Welcome back. Fight with honor and take death to the enemy. -- Armalias
Drinks for all Registered Defenders of Aruak City on Scarlet Knights this weekend in
honor of Lukarian's graduation and Vajra's retaking of the throne. See what happens
when I pay attention? -- Armalias, on a common theme this week....
View Askew -- You sure have been challenging my guys a lot lately...is there a
problem I need to be aware of? Let me know before I loose the hounds...lol. --
Armalias
Ahleetia -- Thanks for the skills. I try again after a few more turns like that one.
-- Moonshadow
Glleellmann -- Well done. I was always running with my favorite weapon, but even
with my rhythm it wasn't quite enough to keep you from scumming me.... <grin> --
Lukarian
Land of Flush -- I can't say enough how much I appreciated that. -- Skywise
Jugular -- Lucky start. Care to try again, lunger? -- Clearbrook
Schnoogiewoogums -- With a name like that, you're lucky I didn't kill you. -- Salena
19 August 2003
Citizens of Ghea (only the ignorant fail to note Lirith Kai is not in Alastari),
no new day is rising, but the sun is setting on just another beautiful evening.
While you were sleeping, an irksome rabble has entered the always fair Aruak City.
Of course they fought alongside our warriors, most not so treasured, as all
gladiators do. They drank with themselves, and slept with themselves. Whether they
had masks, who cares.
Warriors, don't be afraid. For years Aruak has been one of the safest cities in
Ghea, and that custom has been continually cultivated, and will continue to be by
those who have called it home for years and those who live, fight, and die by the
same ethics. There is no contest, nor has there ever needed to be one for many
years. A conflict of personalities has arisen, and the city has been 'invaded' by
pests.
Any rules that are annouced will be purely for the joy of the lemmings' own
little world. Those who are being targeted have no interest in participating except
to defend the integrity of an arena that is different from others. Whether you
choose to come to Aruak, do it for your own reasons, not theirs.
Competing in Aruak City has never been for the faint of heart or the weak willed.
Combat is combat, wherever you go. Blood will flow as always, and now many innocents
will be caught in the middle, but those who defend Aruak's traditions never target
those who bring respect of Aruaki customs with them to our home.
So ignore the private ranting announcement brought by the stuporous
Frothingsloshers. If you choose Aruak City, do not choose it for an unsanctioned and
bogus 'contest', choose it for the tradition. Choose it because Aruak is different.
Defenders of Aruak

To any that care -- The CDC is back; our current roster is:
Malaquar -- Minion of Guardian
Pip the Troll -- Burly Enforcer Type
mouse -- Official Sneaky Bastard
Papa Bear -- Elder Statesmen
The Sealer says, "Hi, I'm the dealer."
Papa Bear says, "It's not my f****n fault."
Guardian -- Paper Figurehead
Kennelworthy -- A whole personal to us and not a single 'yep'sir'. Tisk. Well, we'll
certainly make the rounds at the Bulldog Inn, can't pass up a decent tavern, even if
the brew is over-priced. We'll just drink our own for a bit, get sorta happy, then
come by and do the courtesy of throwin' one back to help with your wavering coffers.
Glad you could make the festivities here in Aruak City... I know how warm a cave can
be in hibernation, we're really very honored. And, ooo those heated doghouses... man,
sorry to have gotten you out, but now that you're here, heck, right? -- Manray
Frothingslosh
Doc Steele - 'Love what you've done to the place...' -- Manray
Tankesh -- I know! Can you believe it? That's what I'm sayin'! -- Manray
Street Legal -- Then, y'all might want to go get tested... sorry, I should have told
y'all sooner, it's my fault. It was evil, but that's what the 'Darth' part of my name
is for. -- Darth Pretzel
Nuln... is that sort of, like, Niln Void? They kicked ass!
Generalissimo Puerco -- Hrrumph-mmph hrruh-mph, pwuh-pwuh hhrururugh gah-ah gah-gah-
gah. -- Mahrah
