Murder by Numbers: Turn 3
Turn three, Aruak City.
Funny thing about new turns here in Aruak City, with them comes a new list.
Looking out over the stalls and dressing rooms last turn, it was no surprise to
see that a number of familiar faces were nowhere to be seen, least of all in the
spotlight of the public eye, gaping hungry thing that it is. Well, the ranks of the
clay pigeons was not entirely empty, no, there were some warriors who braved the
gauntlet of the will, striding out onto the sand with a sneer and a head held high.
Of course you have your odd match-ups, dark arenas and even a graduating warrior.
Ah! The wonders of the magic box! (At the speaker's right a curtain recedes,
bringing into view the fantastic machine. He pats it, fairly caressing its sparse
surface.)
Your ways are mysterious, yes?
* yes *
You see!
It is mysterious....
Nonetheless, no warrior was killed last turn which was marked, leaving us all
tied at zero. Come, you must try harder! Here! Have some stew! Eat! Eat!
Despite this rather understated first turn of Murder By Numbers rankings, there
were a fair number of kills in the arena last turn, some excellently accomplished on
challenges or blood feuds, which is to be applauded in the strongest manner feasible
to mankind. (Unnnnnngugughgrrrhhhhh!!!) There. I have applauded it. But, couldn't
it be said that, and personally it seems logical, that the warriors on the team of a
warrior who has its ID number listed in our Murder By Numbers action are more easily
challenged? It will remain to be seen....
An additional note, the Duelmaster has successfully defended their throne, and
so is again subject to placement on the MBN list for next turn.
Also, sorry Sylvester, you are not eligible for a point by killing Bootstrap on
the turn he is listed, narrow miss....
Now as you read, remember: The flowers smell sweeter the closer you are to the
grave.
Happy hunting.

Istoreth, Skaithvarn:
From the ship, Istoreth was a city of spires, white marble and dark pines
climbing a cliff together above a crowded harbor. Silent, beautiful, not quite
familiar. Close up, with the Iayen ship moving restlessly against the worn stone of
a wharf, it was more familiar, less beautiful, and not at all silent. The basic
nature of a waterfront is not changed by the language of the people inhabiting it.
Goff was arguing with somebody who acted official, probably a harbormaster,
Raoul decided. No doubt there would be docking fees or something of that kind, and
they might have to identify themselves and their purpose, register somewhere as
visiting foreigners. None of that stuff was his problem. Goff could handle the
harbormaster, he was doing that already. And Berdan could make himself useful
dealing with any other officials. The Fratsfan looked like somebody who could deal
with officials, maybe even enjoyed it. If he'd been a gladiator, he would probably
have been a total parry....
The ex-assassin was talking to another man a little farther along the dock.
Raoul saw money change hands, and Berdan accepted a package from the stranger. The
gladiator frowned, watching the stranger walk away quickly. Berdan wasn't supposed
to know anybody here...except the other assassin, Peranis. And that man was not
Peranis. Was this an indication of the wide contacts Raoul had suspected all along
that Berdan had? Probably. But was it a sign of treachery, or at least that Berdan
was playing his own game as well as theirs? Possibly. The man was an ex-assassin,
which automatically made him...not exactly untrustworthy, perhaps, but someone to be
watched carefully. The assassins had been spies, as well as killers. Concealing
their purposes was second nature. And he was a Fratsfan, besides, a race noted for
the labyrinthine complexity of their thoughts and schemes. But he and Jeri and Goff,
and by extension King Mickeal, had to trust somebody.
Still, Raoul watched very closely as Berdan came back toward Goff's boat. The
man was holding his package, still unopened, very carefully, on the palm of his
opened hand and well away from his body.
"I need a bucket of water," Berdan said quietly. "I need it rather quickly," he
added when the others gaped at him. "I don't think this will explode until I open
it, but I can't be sure...."
Jeri jumped and reached for a bucket, Raoul took it from her and dunked it over
the side, then held it out.
"Set it over there, away from us all," the ex-assassin said. "There are even a
few explosive devises which are activated by water, though I don't think this is
one." He wasn't quite whispering. "They're...tricky to handle, and Peranis had to
leave this in the hands of a stranger who might be careless. It should be something
simple, perhaps not even magical." When the bucket was positioned to his
satisfaction, and Goff had drawn the staring harbormaster out of the way, Berdan
lowered the package gently into the water and sprang back.
"If it's magical, what difference will water make?" Jeri asked.
"More than you might think," Berdan answered. "Water is amazing stuff and
washes out many things." The bucket suddenly erupted into a plume of dark foam.
"Ah! I wondered what Peranis might have available. That he would risk using black
ice tells us that he is truly desperate." As he spoke, the plume reached the height
of a man, collapsed, and dissolved the end of the dock before falling into the
harbor.
"The other ships!" the harbormaster exclaimed, looking around frantically.
"They're not in danger," Berdan said. "The black ice has exhausted itself. You
see?" He pointed downward. "It is dissipating."
"You said it would be safer to put the package into water," Jeri muttered in a
shaky voice.
"It is, it was, young lady. Had black ice been exposed to air before water, the
results would have been disastrous."
"It's disastrous as it is!" the harbormaster wailed. "My dock!" He turned on
Berdan fiercely. "You brought this here--"
"I did nothing of the sort," the ex-assassin answered coldly. "It was handed to
me but moments ago by one of YOUR men."
Before the harbormaster could respond, a squad of soldiers thundered onto the
dock. "Everyone here is to see Lord Dankilvan immediately!" the leader commanded.
DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
Notes from the arena champ.
Well, I must say, that was my favorite victory to date. My thanks to Nubian for
that fine match and for not avoiding me. I only need to win 2 more and I'm outta
here, so it looks like I'll be challenging for those wins. That means Glleellmann
will NOT be getting my challenge, as I don't feel like bouncing my attacks off a
target dummy until I fall over from exhaustion. So Hushpuupy's out, too. I guess,
out of the active CCs, that only leaves...wait...what's that?...Guardian?...managed
by Talon Volksie?...well, I guess I'll just have to give him one shot at the throne,
for old times sake.
Your Duelmaster,
Vajra Valmejar,
Scarlet Knight
SPY REPORT
Welcome ARUAK CITY. I, Olaf Modeen remember this place well. Many the fights
have I fought here. The celebrations, the disappointments... Woof! SOLAPALOOZA
were a bunch of dogs after PATRONAS VERITAS got through with 'em! 4th ain't so sweet
as 1st! You know what they say about the herd of lions who studied a judge... ABC'S
moved up 14 places, to 7th. Who can explain it? Not you, not me, not BRAT PACK II's
opponents, after watching them shoot up the ranks from 54th to 14th. You know what
they say about the herd of lions who studied a judge... ELFQUEST moved up 17 places,
to 15th. Who can explain it? Not you, not me, not MANIC MARVELS' opponents, after
watching them shoot up the ranks from 42nd to 20th. You know what they say about the
herd of lions who studied a judge... SHAOLIN-ISH moved up 14 places, to 21st.
Looking for a good fight, confident, skilled, tough opponents. Well don't look at
THE HEADCUTTERS II, cause they dropped by 14. Who can explain it? Not you, not me,
not VIC'S DUNGEON's opponents, after watching them shoot up the ranks from 43rd to
25th. You know what they say about the herd of lions who studied a judge...
COLORIFIC moved up 24 places, to 26th. Who can explain it? Not you, not me, not
MIKE'S MORGUE's opponents, after watching them shoot up the ranks from 48th to 27th.
You know what they say about the herd of lions who studied a judge... TUFT TUGGERS
moved up 27 places, to 30th. Ever take one of those association tests? You know, he
says black, you say white. Water-Lake, Sky-Blue. Try this: Flop. CARNIVAL! Who
can explain it? Not you, not me, not VELVET GREEN's opponents, after watching them
shoot up the ranks from 44th to 33rd. KNIGHTS OF GLORY bit the big one as they could
not win. They dropped from 20th down to 37th! Are you guy giving lessons or what?
Looking for a good fight, confident, skilled, tough opponents. Well don't look at
BEAVERS ARE FOR, cause they dropped by 16. You know what they say about the herd of
lions who studied a judge... SNUGGLE BUNNEES moved up 19 places, to 40th. Ever take
one of those association tests? You know, he says black, you say white. Water-Lake,
Sky-Blue. Try this: Flop. CLUB HAMMER! Who can explain it? Not you, not me, not
GERFEL'S FRIENDS' opponents, after watching them shoot up the ranks from 55th to
43rd. You know what they say about the herd of lions who studied a judge...
PLATEMAIL POLITICS moved up 18 places, to 44th. KRILL CAVALRY bit the big one as
they could not win. They dropped from 28th down to 45th! Are you guy giving lessons
or what? Who can explain it? Not you, not me, not WORTHLESS MANAGERS' opponents,
after watching them shoot up the ranks from 63rd to 46th. Looking for a good fight,
confident, skilled, tough opponents. Well don't look at ..*..SUNGOD..*.., cause they
dropped by 28. Ever take one of those association tests? You know, he says black,
you say white. Water-Lake, Sky-Blue. Try this: Flop. WOLFBROTHERS! VIEW ASKEW bit
the big one as they could not win. They dropped from 18th down to 53rd! Are you guy
giving lessons or what? Looking for a good fight, confident, skilled, tough
opponents. Well don't look at THE IMPERIALS, cause they dropped by 17. CANNIBALZ
showed ARUAK CITY what they were made of as they fought with a vengeance to walk off
with 3-1-0. Welcome to ARUAK CITY, G1 AUTOBOTS! We need more teams who can get a
3-1-1 their first time out! ARUAK CITY's got someone new to push around. C'mon
everyone, challenge OLD BOYS CLUB. Let's see how long they last. What's with PRISM
EYESBRITE? He actually beat KNIGHTS OF GLORY's HIRO JHAN TRI, and walked away with
19 more points from the fight. Laughs were big at FISH MONGERS III while they
watched WANDA GOBY clobber NERF KILLIN'. He lost 16 points and got bruised from
objects thrown from the stands. Another fighter (HUSHPUPPY 19-14-0) challenged
another Duelmaster (VAJRA VALMEJAR 14-10-0). Life goes on. Try as he might,
HUSHPUPPY wasn't good enough at persuading VAJRA VALMEJAR to step down from the
Duelmaster's throne... I suppose you want to hear some rumors and dirty gossip about
your fellow fighters? Tough!
Speaking of cowardly avoiders and unfair challenges... The most avoided team
was WOLFBROTHERS. Management must be dealin', as the boys at BULLDOGS ain't reelin'!
WOLFBROTHERS' mad! How well I know the feeling of being the most challenged warrior,
THUNDERSTORM! Don't make idle boasts, they may come back to haunt you. RED HOT
expects the easy win by going 49 points down. RICK DERRIS will find this a hard
lesson! I have to get this off my chest. What a low dog, RED HOT! She can't set
herself up in a real match. I was sorry to see RICK DERRIS lose. Taunt your
opponent CHARLIE WEASLEY! That was my lucky charm when I was unfairly challenged.
(and by 16 points!) BUDDHA-BELCHES should have an easy win. BUDDHA-BELCHES left the
match looking worse than when he went in, after CHARLIE WEASLEY, with a 1-1-0, walked
all over him. Fighting is a better craft than farming, NIPPLE CLAMP, but you have to
pay your dues. Being challenged by DERANGED, 16 points above you, is dues. Just who
can DERANGED beat? I mean, the last matchup with lesser-ranked NIPPLE CLAMP shoulda
been a piece of cake! FUNK-SHUI didn't quite know what to make of a challenge he
received from BRIN SAUGER of FISH MONGERS III, who is 25 points below him. BRIN
SAUGER perhaps got hers just desserts, seeing as she was subdued by FUNK-SHUI and
ended up with 3 recognition points.
There have been some calls to lengthen the time limit. Do you want the fighters
to walk away, or not? Yeah, yeah, TONY MCALPINE killed APACHE, who was "too young to
die." Well, he was a fighter, and that's what you have to face. HIRO JHAN TRI of
KNIGHTS OF GLORY didn't know when to quit. When you've got a 6-5-2, that's a good
sign. Now he's dead. APACHE found himself really over-matched when he faced TONY
MCALPINE. APACHE found himself grossly dead at the end of the match. K. K. DOWNING
larned his lesson (FREEDOM HOLES taught it well), and we right likely won't be seein'
'im fight any BAD HEIR DAY members with the same gusto. Someone told BEEF BULLION
that CLUB HAMMER never Bloodfeuded, that he'd have an easy kill. Well, I'm sure
whoever misled you is right sorry. APACHE was plum wore out after TONY MCALPINE
pounded 'im silly in a Bloodfeud. DRAGON JUNKIES S.S.'ll have to get a little better
before going after TONY MCALPINE again! VIRTUE PUFFS larned his lesson (TROGLODYTE
taught it well), and we right likely won't be seein' 'im fight any MIKE'S MORGUE
members with the same gusto. How long have I been here? I got people to see, places
to go...
Well, I'm pretty much through. You guys need to get back practicing. The end
of another Spyreport! That's cause for celebration in my book! Remember--a good

Rillion -- With all the madness, it is hard to pick up on everything that is going on
Aruak at the moment, but I couldn't help but see what you said to Sol (who is an
alliance mate of mine). So let me get this straight, you call us brainless because
we come to your home and play the way we want to play. Granted, I only came here
because someone told me that I could not allow my warriors to try to kill
intentionally, and hey, I never actually did, but when someone tells me that when I
kill a warrior in this arena the whole arena will come after me, that is when I draw
the line. You say that we are pushing the way we play on you managers in this arena.
I wouldn't go so far as to say that we are pushing anything on anyone; we are just
here to fight, and so what if we run differently than you do. Get over it, move on,
grow up, or just plain and simply...fight. -- Youngblood, Dragon Junkies S.S., The
Firm
P.S. Watch your back. Just so you know, every member of The Firm is in this arena,
and in case you didn't know, we are invaders.
Defenders -- I am sure that by the time that this is all over that you will still
have your lifestyle the way it was, and I am also sure that no one wants to turn your
arena into a Delarquan arena forever. As soon as enough warriors have died, you will
have your city back, I think. Anyway, I will continue to send my warriors in to
kill. The bad thing is I do not even think you could get away with yielding at this
point. For the time being the grounds of Aruak will swell. -- Youngblood, The Firm
Generalissimo Puerco -- A bit slow to respond, but I enjoyed your spot the other
turn. Well said, ol' friend! -- Adie
Kennelworth -- I thought you'd like that spot. It is not often I get to
(re)introduce you in such a manner. A chance of a lifetime. -- Adie
Mordigan -- Yes, the Bulldog serves light beer. But I would recommend trying a
Radler (pronounced Rodler). It's regular beer, mixed with a carbonated citrus drink.
Very refreshing. -- Adie
Speaking as someone who doesn't like either beer or carbonated anything, that
sounds awful. How about iced tea or something? -- Ed.
Angus -- With the Kennelworth and I running the Bulldog now, we might be open 24 hrs!
He can take the night shifts! ; ) -- Adie
Leeta -- Yes, lemmings are kind of rodent-like and terrific cat food. A good
metaphor for the invaders I suppose. What are you proposing? ; ) -- Adie
Hanibal -- The current hard copies of my maps are large. Do you mind if it is
folded? -- Adie
Ann Grande -- I was expecting a bit more from somebody with a record as good as
yours. I'll take the win though, thank you. Do you think they'll ever institute
ties or overtime losses? -- Zlatina
Pandemic -- You losers can keep being dishonorable and lowly downchallenging sissies
any time. I laugh in your face every time I survive one of your attempts to kill me!
-- Branford
Harlin Dobbs -- I knew you and your manager were here to win, but I didn't think
you'd stoop so low as to dishonorably downchallenge first! You deserve no respect.
-- Eliza
Dog Fashion -- Who's running the show over there? You aren't doing so hot, and I
don't see how your name relates to your team name. Care to explain? -- Kalidor
And Razorback returns! Another old veteran of Aruak steps up from retirement to
stand shoulder to shoulder. Welcome back, it is good to have you once again after so
long! Truly the invaders are in the moral trash bin of gladiatorial society! --
Tankesh, Mgr. Tuft Tuggers
Mordraith -- Your insults are merely another stain upon your own lowly character....
You're a lemming to watch leap off a cliff with his fellows...trash merely to be
swept into Aruak's moral garbage bin with the other invaders. Why do I waste my
time.... -- Tankesh
Alfredo -- I understand that you think there is some distinction between you fighting
alongside Doc Steele and serving him as minions, but I don't see it. From my
perspective, you have come here to disrupt a way of enjoying Duelmasters, a way of
role playing. I'm sorry you feel it is your job to enforce your values upon those
who call this arena home instead of going to an arena where your style of play would
be welcomed. I came here not only to defend Aruak but to defend the way of life that
is the regional arena. So, at least in my little corner of the world, you will
remain mere minions of Doc Steele and his misguided values. -- TigToad
Thanks to whomever put up the current list of invaders/defenders! It's a big help!
-- TigToad
Rillion -- Thanks for the welcome. It is looking like I will enjoy my stay here
immensely. -- TigToad
Leeta Stormrider -- Excellent post! I agree with you. Personally, any "contest"
that gets created out of this fiasco will be promptly ignored by me. However, I am
still going to 'defend' here. -- TigToad
Vajra Valmejar -- I'm sure you'll hear it from Kennelworth too, but this is it
anyway. Congratulations! Drinks are free for the Duelmaster at the Bulldog Inn. --
Adie
Congratulations to Glleellmann on his magnificent run to the Isle! -- Adie
Kennelworth -- I like to keep the pictures shiny. I used a bit of magic a while back
to make them a bit more vibrant. They'd been fading with age! I've been known to
have good recommendations now and then. :) -- Adie
Mino -- One of them sea-loving Minotaurs, I see. Khazakh would be pleased to meet
you some time, although both he and I still don't understand why, as a Minotaur, you
have hooved feet, and not human feet.... -- Adie
Rillion and Kennelworth -- My thoughts about the RUGS here exactly. Does anybody
else think they are terrible in Aruak? -- Adie
Alfredo -- Like many things apparently in disagreement in Aruak, the opinion of your
ale versus that of the Bulldog Inn is merely that. An opinion. We do have a fine
selection of other strange drinks though (that even Kennelworth would be surprised to
have now). If you're up for one, drop on by. -- Adie
Youngblood -- Another misguided, youthful, lemming in Aruak, led by the false
propagandist invaders to the moral trash bin of our fair city. Learn the true ways
of Aruak, learn what honor is, and redeem yourself. -- Tankesh (trying not to sound
too cheesy)
The Preacher -- You're kind of vague there, buddy. Care to back those elusive
comments up with some words of honor like the defenders, or a pile of bravado dung
like the invaders? -- Tankesh
Alfredo -- Awww...what happened? Aruak dropped below 70 teams! Are the invaders
having difficulty bringing in more teams? I wouldn't be surprised if the number
continued to drop regularly in a few turns. It would be normal. -- Tankesh
Frothingsloshers -- Ooo...even Leeta laid the smack down with another brilliant
segment of commentary. I don't know why we even bother ourselves, you boys should
throw yourselves into the moral trash bins of Aruak. -- Tankesh
All -- I didn't have time last turn to do my personal ads, so I am responding to both
T-470 and T-471 this time. -- Doc Steele
Guardian -- I figured it was best to have 3 team fire power available if necessary.
I'll be sandbagging some. -- Doc Steele
Adie -- Thank you for the welcome, and I'll take that drink anytime. As for my
arrival here in Aruak City, it is difficult for me to judge for myself in the middle
of the Slosher invasion. I'll be here for a long time, so we'll have plenty of time
to figure each other out. Our interaction in Andorak has always been pleasant,
frankly I was disappointed to see you respond to my Rt email and put yourself on the
Credo-police list. You all have every right to play your way, but so do the rest of
us. In the past you have grouped together, and pounded less than experienced
managers. It will be interesting to see how you handle me. I'll also be here over
the years to protect those innocent managers who stumble into Aruak City without
knowing what is going on. No more bullying on my watch. The other problem we have
to resolve over time on both sides are managers running their mouth out of place.
There is a certain hierarchy in Duelmasters, and I think the trouble comes from
managers spouting off about this or that and then getting pounded in the arena. It
has always been my opinion that a manager should talk about as loud as his
Duelmaster's resume will let him. That is why you and I can discuss things
rationally, but all I hear is that Charlie Brown noise when Street Legal or Dreidflak
talks. My point being that you and I should work over time to try and help me
understand the Aruak tradition, and for your people to understand the style of play I
utilize. Why not view a few strong Delarquan managers as added flavor? We'll see
how it all shakes out. -- Doc Steele, mgr. of Neverwake
TigToad -- See my above ad about speaking out of turn. Your inane attempts to insult
the Sloshers by referring them as "minions" of mine is one of the main reasons I am
here killing your Andorian friends. It is not that I am opposed to your tradition, I
am opposed to your attitudes. Keep talking, genius, and the blood will keep flowing.
-- Doc Steele
Tankesh -- I understand very well that is was a record for a first-team, as in the
one you cut your teeth with, or Adie did or whatever. I have respect for anyone who
does not throw their team away and tries to build a tradition in any arena. I was
only trying to imply that taking me on in the middle of trying to get to 50% with a
first-team is a lot of added trouble. Good luck. -- Doc Steele
Angus -- Thanks for the welcome, and good luck. -- Doc Steele
Hanibal -- <chuckle> You have no idea who I am, do you? I agree that most managers
in situations like this will only last a few months, but I am not most managers.
Only time will prove my point, but you should get used to having me around. I am not
invading Aruak City, I am playing here. You wish to add yourself to the list of lost
souls that want to dictate to me how I fill out my strategy sheet, so be it. What is
your team name, hero? -- Doc Steele
Armalias -- I did not come here with the Sloshers. I came here because a bunch of
people on the Rt told me they would force me through arms to run a certain way or
quit. They were quite vocal about it, actually. They laid down the gauntlet and I
took it up. It is not I that should know better, it is your Andorian pups who must
learn the law of the jungle. As for you and your threats, you should know that it is
meaningless drivel to me. I accept the death of my warriors as quickly as I give it
to others. And you, in particular, could not scare your own shadow. You and I both
know I have forgotten more about Duelmasters, then you will ever know. I am keeping
score of every fight with every manager, we'll see where you stand in a few years. I
am not here to ruin the fine honorable tradition you speak of, that is impossible,
since that tradition is a mirage. I am here to end the hypocrisy and bullying that
goes on in the name of honor. In time, I am sure I can restore Aruak City's good
name. Are you quite sure you know what the kids have been up to in your home arena
while you have been away? I am the one that is disappointed that you would let these
neophytes speak of honor, and act without it. Perhaps all these years I thought you
were not a typical Andorian hypocrite hiding failure behind a veil of honor, I was
wrong. A sad day. The list of worthy Andorians grows very short indeed. -- Doc
Steele
Silash -- I feel pretty good about that! Now you can envy me! -- Green With Envy
The Saint -- It is me, the one-eyed, one-horned flyin' you-know-what who manages
Colorific. -- Purple People Eater (What A Sight To See)
No, no, Saint. It is me, Mildred Frothingslosher, who owns Colorific. How dare that
silly Eater! -- Mildred Frothingslosher
Now just one minute, Saint! And to all you pansies out there too! It is I, D.
Steele, who commands Colorific. And I will do it any way I feel like it. -- Mr.
Steele to all of you
Shucks, and I thought they were one of mine? -- Umbrella Man
So many choices! I think I'll take Mister Eater as being the most Colorific of
you. -- The Saint, keeper of lists
Glleellmann, congrats on your invite. It was my pleasure sending you up to the big
time with that Adex. -- Red Hot
Dreihdensmurf -- Uh, THAT was not MY idea! Well fought. -- Magenta Manticore
Dammee, ye Animal Farm landlubbin' kittycats! Shivver me timbers! Git yore gol dang
act a movin'. Ye be bassarrin' thisn ole pirate. Aye. -- Mino
What? I drew Chardinee? Unfair! Unfair, I say. Why couldn't I have had an easy
draw like one of those "frothers"? Not fair. I always draw tough. -- Cherry Cheetah
Cherry -- I hear you, babe! I hear you. -- Blackout, also a loser to a tough draw
having hoped for the easy slothingfroshers
Commander Spud -- It may have been a difficult battle, but those were some prodigious
skills! -- Prodigious
Vanquish -- I was on that day as I climb to the top. -- Lexicon
Rillion -- You, my friend, are an idiot...as I recall the Andos pushed their babble
about and as anyone knows, SOL will not be pushed around, so I pushed back. You have
a long road ahead of you now...a loooooong, long road, freedom to do as I wish in an
arena is what this is about, you fool. I don't care if they don't appreciate down
challenging and intent to kill. I will challenge that way as I wish, as a matter of
fact you have now given me a sure target. I hope you are ready! I doubt you can
handle me, let alone the entire FIRM, (Dragon Junkie, **SUNGOD**, Club Hammer) or
even any of the other Invaders. We shall see how it plays out, that is if you have
the JEWELS to run more than a SCUM or a WASTE. You seen to be the one "lacking in
higher brain function" to overlook the hypocrisy of being a "defender"; there is
nothing to defend. You have lost already by proclaiming such, as Alfredo said, "I am
my own man," and now YOU are my TARGET. -- SOL of The FIRM
P.S. As you can tell, I don't miss often. :) SOLAPALOOZA
Armaliawho? -- You aren't worthy of a full post. Go hide behind Consortium if you
know what's best for you. -- SOL "invader extraordinare" mgr. SOLAPALOOZA
Kennelworth -- My sorrow? You should know by now I accept death as quickly as I give
it. I have not lost anyone yet, but the day is not far off given the circumstances.
I can only assume you mean my sorrow at the loss of "invader" warriors. Since I
don't care when my warriors die, what could possible make you think I care if someone
else's warrior kicks the bucket? I have killed 2 "invader" warriors myself, and I
would not change that if I could. So I'll take that drink, and we'll raise our glass
to all the slayers, and to the fine gladiators that gave their lives for our
spectacle. -- Doc Steele
Alfredo -- TigToad is just pushing your buttons with that minion stuff. He can't out
play you, so what is left for him to do but run his mouth? Forget 'em. -- Doc Steele
Rillion -- Define "back to normal" and "should not be too long" for me? I hope that
does not include my exit? I've sandbagged warriors longer than you have played
Duelmasters. I once missed 200+ consecutive training attempts in Primus. I have
maxed out warriors that started with 8 wit and 10 will. Well hell, I have played
without interruption for almost 20 years. Do you seriously doubt I have the patience
to continue to play here in good old Aruak City? You better rethink your victory
conditions if my leaving this arena have anything to do with them. -- Doc Steele,
mgr. Neverwake
Impulse -- Well, no it doesn't mean I am automatically a good warrior because Doc
Steele is my manager. And it also does not mean that you are any good because you
won one fight when we each have one fight's experience. In fact, your unfounded and
rather presumptuous insults actually lead me to believe you are rather feeble minded.
Based on that evidence, perhaps it will be you that does not turn out to be a great
warrior. One thing being Doc Steele's warrior does mean, is that you could get
yourself and your whole team in some hot water if you keep flapping your lips.
Unfortunately for you, Doc Steele demands the same respect for his warriors as he
does himself. I think of it as a job perk. Maybe he didn't notice this one. --
Deranged
Titan -- Amusing to watch? I'm surprised you could see anything looking over those
two small shields! Enjoy your victory, it seems to be a trend here in Aruak City to
celebrate each individual victory like it was your last. Well, come to think of it,
that might not be a bad policy given the kill desires around here. -- Spirit Chaser
Rillion -- Enjoy your victory, it amuses me the way all you rookies jump for joy
every time you manage a victory in basic. Relax, son, it's a long war. -- Doc Steele
Manray -- What I have done!? This is your invasion, I'm just living in it. Besides,
Street Beating, Dredenflak, and TigPud all brought this on themselves. If you mess
around with the bull long enough, he will eventually notice you, and give you the
horns. Finally, I suspect that 95% of these guys kind of like the new and improved
fierce Aruak over the girl scout jamboree it used to be. They'll just never admit
it. -- Doc Steele
Fur -- Considering the downchallenge that led to my warrior's death, I've little
doubt that you got exactly what you wanted out of that fight. Prepare for the
bloodfeud. -- Generalissimo Puerco
Kennelworth -- Ask, you say? Well, there is one thing.... My long-time team
deadbeat and your best customer, Bob the Russian, has placed himself more or less in
charge on the dispensation of all the spirits we serve at the Farm. Needless to say,
a few lessons would be appreciated, if not by him, then by me. Next time he's in
(i.e., this afternoon), could you do the unthinkable and take him behind the bar? --
Generalissimo Puerco
P.S. There will be a seat at the chef's table for you and a guest whenever you wish
to make a trip out here. If that guest happens to be Adie, then all the better!
Alfredo -- I am glad to see that you share with me a wider perspective of all this
activity. But, as Leeta so clearly stated, we will walk a fine line between
fostering good competition and alienating people that just came (or stayed) in Aruak
City for the good competition. I hope you will agree with me that alienating our
fellow managers and driving them from the game are not worthwhile goals, regardless
of what camp one places themselves in. -- Generalissimo Puerco
Rillion -- In all my time here I have gotten one truly impressive warrior.
Ironically, the warrior was not created on my team but on that of my brother's. I
only took in the warrior once he had reached the Isle, since my brother never ran in
AD much. -- Generalissimo Puerco
Kedro -- That was a friendly, hi-how-ya-doin' upchallenge, in these days of mean and
spiteful downchallenges. Please feel free to return the favor. Really. -- The Great
Samaritan
Leeta -- You have so eloquently expressed my own thoughts and stance on the issue of
the contest and the invasion. Thank you. -- Generalissimo Puerco
Mahrah -- Take those marbles outta your mouth! -- Generalissimo Puerco
P.S. I almost missed your ad, hidden way in the back of the paper as it was. I'm
not sure it would have mattered, though.
Congrats to Vajra and Glleellmann for their accomplishments! -- Generalissimo Puerco
Two Fingers -- Gosh, imagine if you'd used three! -- Dumb Rocky
P.S. I'm not so dumb, I can count to three, you know.
Lord Bennett -- (heavy sigh) It is definitely a judgment on SOMEBODY. -- Nila
Sundancer
Wildside -- Tough luck, kid. I bet you can't lose that fast again. -- Kedro
Slowburn -- I kinda think you should burn faster, you know? -- Kip Hardee
Mordigan -- I should probably be considered a non-participant, if not an outright
neutral. I do not feel it would be suitable for me to take an active position, and
besides, I'm too exasperated with both sides. I have stated my position, and that is
all I'm going to do. I won't change my style of play or engage in further rhetoric.
-- Leeta, Krill Cavalry
Kennelworth -- Then Jorja in North Fork will look forward to making his acquaintance.
-- Leeta
Street Legal -- Excellent Blood Feud; we'll of course be seeing you on the sand. --
Manray
Bam -- Style matchups can be deceiving. -- Earth
Skirmish -- See above. -- Equalizer
Coup -- Hanibal will get it right, eventually. -- Fire
Cuddling -- We have a surprise for you. -- Creatures
Gun Metal -- 2 P.P. is enough for me, now that I am down where I belong I can wreak
havoc on you and your entire team. One loss is a small price to pay for the carnage
I am about to let loose on your stable. -- Serenity
All -- Did you realize if you send your Duelsheets in on time we won't be receiving
our fights the day before it is time to mail again? That means mail by Saturday and
we won't be having those problems. -- Hanibal
All -- I have always heard that having a high KD in desperation will keep you
fighting a little longer. I have found the exact opposite is true; any comments? --
Hanibal Q.O.W.
P.S. Thanx for all help last week.
Leeta -- I read over your personal ad to the Frothingslosh Syndicate several times
and after much pondering I have come up with this conclusion: Duelmasters, in most
respects, is role-playing, sort of a "pretend-real life", if you will. We design
warriors, pit those warriors on the sands against the fighters of the other players,
our manager personas compliment each other, challenge each other, we get happy and we
brag about our teams, we get upset and we "talk smack" in the personals. It is
inherent human nature to respond with hostility, if not violently to some of this
"smack." It is a part of real life, therefore, a part of Duelmasters, "Reality
Simulations." The Frothingslosh Syndicate is only doing what "Sloshers do best"
stirring up a little crap. It is my belief that the future of Duelmasters itself is
solid and in no way threatened by the MBN contest. Aruak City is thriving now and
will continue to do so for some time to come. After the "invasion " is over and the
MBN has run its course, the city may suffer a little but I'm sure it will get back to
its old self eventually. As for managers quitting the game entirely, well, players
come and go like a fast food drive-in. That's the way it has been in my three years
experience and most likely through-out the entire life-span of Duelmasters. So with
that being said, I urge you to kick back and relax, grab some ale and enjoy the show.
It should be a good one. -- SunGod, mgr. ..*..SUNGOD..*.. -- The Firm
Rillion -- Re: "Speaking of ignorant" p-ad to SOL.
N. Hypocrisy -- False claim to virtue, insincerity, pretense.
Rebel -- Feel or display repugnance
N. Repugnance -- Antipathy, aversion, inconsistency or incompatibility of
ideas.
I guess YOU do not have the higher brain function to realize that the invasion
is not by any means hypocrisy, but a rebellion against the "do-as-we-say-or-else"
kind of guidelines that are apparently being enforced here by yourself and the other
announced "defenders" a.k.a. credo-police. Credo or "creed" being; a set of
principles or beliefs, and, police being; a civil force responsible for maintaining
public order or control.
I'm sure that your intent in writing the p-ad was simply to get under SOL's
skin, but, I can assure you that the ad drew more than just his attention. -- SunGod
Rillion -- Re: your p-ad to Tripwire in which you wrote: "You will find lots of live
warriors in the Aruaki Arena and very few deaths. Is that so? Well, by my count,
over the last three turns in the Aruak City Arena there were 21 deaths, 6 kills by
The Firm managers alone, 10 kills just this turn. Very few? I think not. Quite a
few is more appropriate. -- SunGod, The Firm
Armalias -- Umm...blah, blah, freakin, blah. Try to leave the nasty threats to the
more competent managers in the arena, okay, young'n? -- SunGod
P.S. ...whoever you are.
Armalias -- Loose the hounds? Bring them on! But be warned, my stable guardsmen are
armed with peanut butter and SPAM to distract the little beasts. Don't take the
challenges personally, because they aren't. Besides, shouldn't you be requesting
challenges given your record in them head to head? Narja owes Nubian God a drink for
taking his pretty robes away; he still won't come out of his dorm. -- Angus
Don't anyone interpret this as anything other than my sense of humour, but the
mental image of a bunch of warriors standing around trying to get the peanut
butter off the roofs of their mouths is a wonderful one. -- Ed. who needs a
little humour right now
Generalissimo Puerco -- I really don't have a reason to say anything before. Times
are apparently changing, however. Thanks for the greeting and may luck be with you
as well. -- Angus
Varja -- I guess Guardian was a chicken and I just wasn't enough of a bird. A salute
to you, Duelmaster. -- Orange Osprey
Mr. Valmejar -- Duelmasters drink free at The Bulldog Inn. We will be looking for
you to honor our place. -- Kennelworth, Proprietor
Guardian -- Lukarian may be a cat, but you, my friend, are a mere kitten. Have a
milk on me at the Bulldog. -- Kennelworth, Proprietor
Editor and Alfredo -- Were the Commission to change its policy about allowing anyone
multiple teams, it would be reneging on its commitment to those who had teams
"eliminated" when small arenas were closed. No one had more active teams "injured"
by that decision than The Consortium. Perhaps you would feel more at home in another
arena? You may have all the teams you wish in DM 82. -- Kennelworth
This too has been passed on to the appropriate people. -- Ed.
Guardian, my friend, that is an interesting strategy you have initiating killing
teams in all arenas to retaliate with those who did you wrong. Am I to understand a
warrior of yours was killed in a tournament? I am so sorry. How bad you must have
felt? That is why Aruak city has been considered the heart and soul of Andoria. A
key to our credo has been to do all we an in Aruak to avoid such disheartening acts
such as that. I am pleased to see you share in our fine environment. -- Kennelworth,
Bulldogs
Talon Volksie -- I wish you well in your journeys even though you will be "sloshing"
on your merry way. -- Senator Bob Dole, Consortium
Spot, old friend, thank you for the offer. I must decline for now. We will see what
the future holds. -- Kennelworth
Dartor -- A tip of that hat to you, my long-time associate and friendly rival, in
Aruak City, The Heart & Soul of Andoria. -- Kennelworth
Manray -- And a tip of the hat back at you, Sir. I must admit, my fine hearthroom at
the Bulldog Inn is more favored than the doghouse. -- Kennelworth
Congratulations, Glleellmann of Carnival on your great invite. Well done. --
Kennelworth
Doc Steele -- It is great to see you working on your thesis. It was a pleasure being
allowed to proofread the draft you posted in Andorak. I suspect you will go a long
way as a romance novelist. -- Kennelworth
Rick Derris -- Thank you for the challenge. The pleasure was all mine. And that was
no... -- B.S.
Onewolf -- Well done! Now I am even more in need of rest than normal. -- Dog-Tired
Oh, no! I did, didn't I, Ya Gotta Wince. I split him wide open. I am truly sorry.
Kennelworth has insisted that I option my contract to the invaders. Again, mea
culpa. -- Beef Bullion
All Invaders -- Take note! Invited to The Isle without a kill. How deeply
humiliated you must feel. -- Glleellmann
Aruak City -- It begins! Did you play the raffles? Already Frothingslosh slyly
stabs Doc Steele with a whine and bellyache that Doc arrived with multiple teams.
Now that you have been stabbed so quickly Doc, which side are you now on? -- Umbrella
Man, Raffles
In interested -- Gllellmann's attributes are CR 3, EG 15, CH 20, AT 17, CL 15, SO 11,
TR 3. -- Carny
Aruak City -- The Carnival regrets it must close for renovations. -- Carny
Are you going to put in one of those things that goes up and down and 'round and
'round? I hope so. -- Ed.
Night's Guardian -- Nothing like a little downchallenging to even things out, right?
I see the type of integrity you bring to the arena. -- Razorback, manager of Damage,
Inc.
Nila Sundancer -- You fought well. You almost beat my Master Iron Defense. -- The
Iron Yuppie
Kip Hardee -- Well fought. Maybe victory will be mine in our next match. Until
then, the drinks are on me tonight. -- Slowburn
Tony McAlpine -- That was unexpected... -- The Iron Yuppie
All -- In case there was any confusion, Damage, Inc. fights on the side of the
Defenders. -- Razorback

To any that care -- The CDC is back; our current roster is:
Malaquar -- Minion of Guardian
Pip the Troll -- Burly Enforcer Type
mouse -- Official Sneaky Bastard
Papa Bear -- Elder Statesmen
The Sealer says, "Hi, I'm the dealer."
Papa Bear says, "It's not my f****n fault."
Guardian -- Paper Figurehead

An Announcement Concerning the Brotherhood of the Blade Alliance:
I have chosen to withdraw my membership from the Brotherhood of the Blade
alliance. The years I have spent in the alliance have been the best of my DM career.
I leave the alliance with many great friends and will always remain close to my
former brethren.
The Brotherhood of the Blade will not skip a beat without my membership. It
remains in very capable hands and its roster is among the strongest in the game.
With the return on some of its founding members to DM, I know the BOB will continue
to grow in strength and prestige in the years to come. -- The Sandman
