TEAM SPOTLIGHT
Merry Christmas from the Great Oceanic One, plebes. This holiday benevolence around
here is going to have to stop when all the pretty candles come down. Not sure four
kills is really satisfactory for a deadly group of warriors like yourselves. You all
must be distracted, or getting all sneaky for the F2F.... So, for this turn which
falls so close to the holiday of giving, we're giving double points to any warrior
who takes care of one of the numbers listed below.

"Bound to be trouble there," Hallie O'Dene said almost cheerfully. She guided
her horse toward the half-hidden tower. "It's too pat to be anything but a trap."
"You've got that right, doll," Raoul agreed. "But it just might be a trap for
sheep. Let's see how it handles some wolves."
"It might be a perfectly innocent tower," Jeri Northwind protested.
"It MIGHT, doll, but I don't think so. It--"
"If it was a 'perfectly innocent' building, whether ruined or whole, I'd have
heard of it," Hallie said. "It's my job to hear of such things. Besides, this isn't
the first time I've been down this road, and I don't recall seeing that tower before.
Maybe--MAYBE I missed it because I didn't need it, but...."
"But it's the kind of thing you would be looking for anyway," Raoul said.
Thunder crashed suddenly. He squinted at the trees.
If there was going to be lightning, the trees might be risky shelter at best.
Of course, riding down a road with nothing nearby as tall as three gladiators on
their horses wouldn't be safe, either. The horses seemed to have their own ideas and
ran in under the trees at the edge of the road, not quite fast enough to avoid the
deluge that suddenly burst from the clouds.
Even the trees didn't provide much shelter from that driving downpour. Raoul
took off his hat and tried to shake the water from it, then shrugged and put it back
on. "Not much choice--risk the tower or drown where we sit." He urged his horse
forward. The light wasn't good now that the rain had closed over them, but he
thought he could see a door of planks weathered to almost the same gray as the
stones.
As they approached, the door moved. Opened into the black interior of the
tower.
"Probably haunted," Hallie muttered. "If we're lucky. If not...well, all the
vampires may not be in Leemith. And there are robbers, and--"
"Oh, stop!" Jeri protested. "At least not robbers--they couldn't have BUILT the
tower since you were here last, could they?"
"If they had a wizard--"
A figure appeared in the doorway. Between the rain and the shadow of the trees
now, it was little more than a pale, moving shape until they got close. Too close
now to flee, if they had to and he was any kind of wizard.
An old man, Raoul saw, but not bent or shriveled with his age. Tall, lean as a
bone, with a narrow, hawk's face, hair more gray than red, wearing a simple robe of
natural-colored wool. He made a gesture that was half an offer of shelter, half a
command that they enter.
"Come out of the rain," he said. His voice was deep and cold, and he spoke
Fratsfan with a slight accent like none that Raoul had ever heard before. He stepped
toward the doorway ahead of them. "I have a great aversion to becoming wet."
After a brief hesitation, Raoul dismounted and moved forward, leading his horse.
"We didn't expect to find a shelter along this stretch of the coast," he said,
shaking what rain he could from his clothes before entering. The room within was
circular and large, filling the whole base of the tower. A fire burned on a hearth
to one side. It looked like the part near the door had been used to stable horses
before, and recently.
"This tower has been here a long time," the man said. He turned back at the
fireplace and watched the women enter behind Raoul. "But it has not always been...
visible."
"You're a wizard," Hallie said.
It wasn't a question, but the man bowed his head slightly. "Perhaps the
greatest. I am Kaldrehn of Krael."
One of the women drew a breath in shock; Raoul didn't look back to see which
one. He didn't want to turn his back on this man. "It figures that a great wizard
wouldn't have been caught in the destruction of Krael," he agreed. "But I'm
surprised I haven't heard of you before. You don't have the look of a recluse."
Kaldrehn laughed. "And so I am not." His gaze shifted from Raoul to look
past--at the women, probably. "Not at all a recluse. Nor a man to endure the tedium
of the dark centuries between the fall of Krael and the present, if it could be
avoided. A man with skill enough can move behind time from one era to another, as he
wills." His smile was not reassuring. "As I willed."

Greetings, warriors of ARUAK CITY! Once again I've been called out of
retirement for my abilities and insights into Spyreporting. Woof! SCARLET KNIGHTS
II were a bunch of dogs after THE BLUES got through with 'em! 11th ain't so sweet as
1st! Who can explain it? Not you, not me, not SEER KING's opponents, after watching
them shoot up the ranks from 21st to 10th. You know what they say about the herd of
lions who studied a judge... GRYFFINDOR HOUSE2 moved up 12 places, to 13th. Who can
explain it? Not you, not me, not 'CROSSED UP's opponents, after watching them shoot
up the ranks from 29th to 15th. ELFQUEST bit the big one as they could not win.
They dropped from 14th down to 26th! Are you guy giving lessons or what? Looking
for a good fight, confident, skilled, tough opponents. Well don't look at COUNTRY
FELLERS, cause they dropped by 12. Some people say I ramble too much, I don't say
anything relevant. I repeat myself. I ramble. Well U.B.O.S.M. moved up 5, to 4th.
Well, CATCH THIS!, 2-3-0 isn't a complete rout. But the Duelmaster has nothing to
fear from you guys! What's with DIK-DIK? He actually beat SCARLET KNIGHTS' TATIANA
SEASPRITE, and walked away with 24 more points from the fight. Major screwup at
ELFQUEST. RAINSONG lost 15 points to PHUNKTASTIC. Some new strategies, perhaps?
Maybe RAINSONG will provide more easy wins... Another fighter (B.S. 22-7-2)
challenged another Duelmaster (RICK DERRIS 18-11-0). Life goes on. I'm sure ARUAK
CITY is excited about B.S., the new Duelmaster from BULLDOGS. (remember?) But when
you've seen as many as I have... Wouldn't it be nice to have live subjects to
practice on? I hear some team is looking into the uses of convicted prisoners.
If at first you don't succeed, avoid. That'll get you in the Spyreports. The
most avoided team was SEER KING. The bums at ANIMAL FARM couldn't face the
challenges from SEER KING! No excuse for that! How well I know the feeling of being
the most challenged warrior, GRAND MARNIER! Don't make idle boasts, they may come
back to haunt you. DOG FASHION expects the easy win by going 18 points down.
HERMIONE will find this a hard lesson! DOG FASHION dealt death to HERMIONE. I bet
DOG FASHION could beat two-year-olds, too. Well, GRYFFINDOR HOUSE2 knows who to set
their sights on. Fighting is a better craft than farming, GLADIUS STARSTRYKE, but
you have to pay your dues. Being challenged by LINERGES, 32 points above you, is
dues. LINERGES subdued GLADIUS STARSTRYKE. SEER KING calls this fighting? In my
day... KHAKI KANGAROO didn't quite know what to make of a challenge she received
from STUMPJUMPER of COUNTRY FELLERS, who is 20 points below her. STUMPJUMPER perhaps
got his just desserts, seeing as he was bested by KHAKI KANGAROO and ended up with 5
recognition points.
A fighter's lot is filled with strife, revenge, and killing. Some fighters
don't accept this. The best do. Sending a warrior to the Dark Arena reminds the
others they'd better shape up. Tough beans, MOONSHADOW. That's what a 5-6-0 gets
you. Some people are wondering why SEER KING sent PROTOGENES (6-3-0) to the Dark
Arena. Just be glad you're not on their team. Hmm... More surprises must remain in
store for me, if DA SCUM can return from the Dark Arena. I like to see warriors put
young whippersnappers in their place. I guess you could say GRYFFINDOR HOUSE2'HARRY
POTTER did just that. Right WOLFBROTHERS? KEDRO of KRILL CAVALRY didn't know when
to quit. When you've got a 13-22-0, that's a good sign. Now he's dead. MORNING
MIST found herself really over-matched when she faced HARRY POTTER. MORNING MIST
found herself grossly dead at the end of the match. Someone told GRANITE IRONBEARD
that KELLUMBO'S KIDS never Bloodfeuded, that he'd have an easy kill. Well, I'm sure
whoever misled you is right sorry. MORNING MIST larned hers lesson (HARRY POTTER
taught it well), and we right likely won't be seein' 'im fight any GRYFFINDOR HOUSE2
members with the same gusto. Is it my imagination, or are fighters getting younger
every day? To die so young, so gloriously!
Many other cities have retirement homes for aged warriors. Any plans here?
ARUAK CITY is a nice place to live, but I don't like to live in nice places. Time

Greetings! I would like to invite everyone to Jhans (DM 36) for the first annual kLk
St. Valentine's Day Massacre (kill contest). We will start the contest off with the
ceremonial burning of the Andorian flag on turn 450. (Six turns away. Roughly mid-
February.) The contest will run for 10 turns. On turn 461, 3 separate victors will
be announced. Team with the most kills, warrior with the most kills, and alliance
with the most kills. Prizes will be awarded to the manager of the team with the most
kills and to the manager of the warrior with the most kills. The prizes will
probably be team roll-ups. The number of roll-ups has yet to be determined. The
contest is sponsored by Jhans' newest, (but by the time the contest starts) largest
