Jeeeeeeeeeezey Chreezy, what bloody time is it? Time to make the doughnuts?
Buggah!
Good thing we like doughnuts so much. They run a close third place to...beer
and blood. But, that's what happens. Hormones start racing through you (or is that
Hermiones? ...and then Gary Gygax didn't help things, that sick Patron Saint of
Perverts and Geeks) and then we were off, killing people dressed in period costumes
in the sewers, and splashing blood on each other at parties...but it was only lamb
blood, so it was cool to the family...but really, what do the youth of today have to
admire and spark their imaginations? Pokemon and Harry Potter. A drafty thatched
brothel built on a foundation of stone.
On the topic of blood, it looks like a few of you got over your squeamish inner
selves and poked at each other hard enough to actually _draw blood_ (nice of your
mothers to let you take the real swords to the arena), and a few of you even lay
sobbing on the sand long enough to die of blood loss. Idiots. It looked like a
series of bad manicures going on in the arena. Actually we Frothingsloshers did what
we could to try to instill bravery and bloodlust in the fumbling drones you kept
leading out onto the sands, but the medics kept hurrying around, ignoring our
suggestions that they come have a beer with us and leave you to 'sleep off your
wounds'. Man, what a bunch of shaved apes.
Wanted to take a moment to express regret at the death of Kedro, a pillar of
Krill Cavalry's top notch performance as a skill farm through the recent turns.
There goes a valued arena wetnurse, into the sweet afterworld. Or a soggy casket,
whatever. Hey, there's more than 5 teams in this arena, why's that team here,
anyway? Shouldn't there be like 17 of those teams in Rodeki or something? (But
actually, you notice that some of the deadness in the arenas is lifting...I think the
G.C. might have made the right decision with this whole tourney class revamp...it'll
liven up arenas a bit as a side effect.)
So, alas, there is no number to add to the bloody list of trophies. It remains
a tie between Guardian and some other manager who flits in and out of here like it's
a rest stop powder room. That nasty Harry Potter laid low a young upstart of Doc
Steele's in a bloodfeud, nice work! Don't stand for that death stuff, you firm and
determined gladiator, kill they who would kill you before you can kill them! But
wait...lo! A fatality on the side of Grissledoor House, the name of a fair maiden
ranks among the other wormfood! Pardon me a moment, I feel ashen.

I return. Thank you for allowing me that moment of peace, shared with the soul
of poor lifeless Hermione. We had an ice cream and some cinnamon stout. And that's
not a code word.
A new fresh faced bumpkin takes the throne this turn, welcome B.S. to our MBN
list. Kill him, you limp noodles!
So, snap to, you milktoasts! 3 kills in a turn? Soon I'll be forced to come
out there and dispatch these numbers myself, with the line starting right behind them

Raoul didn't much like this Kaldrehn, or trust him at all, but there was nothing
he could do right then. And many people, especially wizards, were arrogant and self-
centered without necessarily being bad citizens. Well, amend that to "most wizards
were arrogant and self-centered, and SOME of them were not bad citizens...."
"So having escaped the destruction of Krael, you're going to settle down to a
meditative life in Skaithvarn?" Hallie O'Dene asked.
The Kraelian laughed with genuine amusement. "Do I look like a man for the
meditative life?" His gaze went around the inside of the tower, and his lip curled
in scorn. "This is a way station, nothing more. As I was the adviser and kingmaker
in Krael, so shall I be in the world that now is."
"Krael is drowned--" Jeri began.
The wizard shrugged. "There are other kingdoms. The current one in that area
is now called Andoria, is it not?" He looked toward a shadowy stretch of wall where
a crude table stood; there was a thick black book on it. "I shall rule Andoria in
all but name...."
Raoul looked at the book, too, and groaned inwardly. That would be the one
Peranis had stolen, the infamous Black Book in which the never-to-be-sufficiently-
damned Assassins' Guild had recorded all the secrets it could find that would allow
powerful Andorians, nobles and rich merchants and military figures, to be blackmailed
or coerced. With that book, a clever man COULD rule Andoria...at least for a while.
They would have to get it away from Kaldrehn and destroy it.
But on the positive side, it would no longer be necessary to visit the vampire
city of Leemith. And there was only one of Kaldrehn, whereas Hallie had told them
there were thousands of vampires in Leemith.
"Not every powerful man in Andoria is corrupt!" Jeri burst out. "That's just a
small fraction of--"
"There will be enough," Kaldrehn said calmly. "You would be surprised how few
points of pressure it takes to control a kingdom! And I am well skilled in that
art." The wizard crossed to the doorway and looked out.
Raoul's hand twitched toward his sword, then was still. He didn't like to stab
a man in the back, even one who deserved it as much as the Kaldrehn seemed to. But
he wasn't fool enough even to try against a wizard powerful enough to have moved
through time. The man probably had eyes in the back of his head, and short way with
would-be assassins. At least it seemed likely that Peranis had got all that was
coming to him.
"As soon as this storm ends," Kaldrehn said, "I will cross to Andoria. You
three will be my guides and servants. For now. But soon I must form my own coterie
of agents.... That should not be difficult, there are always, in EVERY land, those
who desire a measure of power and wealth, or revenge on the mighty, or simply someone
to lead them."
Raoul's face tightened. That was true, he knew. Not all greedy men were
Delarquan, just as there were honorable men who were not Andorian. He would get word
to King Mickeal as quickly as he could. And then he would form his own coterie to
contend against the Kraelians.

Notes from the arena champ.
Hi, everybody. I'll try to make this short and sweet. No long words for the
invaders. I want them to be able to read it too.
As you know, I've been on this throne before--after killing Khavi, bless his
soul, and defending against Dreihdensmurf (who later defeated me for the crown). You
all know Kennelworth's policy--The Duelmaster challenges and attempts to defend
against friends. Keeping the title "in the family" is an honour amongst friends.
We don't say it often enough, so let me give you The Bulldog rendition of The
Philosophy of Aruak City, heart and soul of Andoria.
-- Minimize possibilities of killing; our desire is for all to live to fight
another day.
-- No downchallenging. Honor is testing those with higher recognition.
-- The Duelmaster must challenge in an attempt to defend. (The Duelmaster is
expected to downchallenge, if necessary, as there is no other direction!)
-- Live by high sportsmanship. The ideals of Health! Humility! Honor! apply.
-- Even deep downchallenge bloodfeuds are dishonorable. The bulldogs only
challenge up with feuds.
-- Apologize for killing--because you mean it.
-- Encourage others in personals. Establish an environment of actively helping
newcomers.
Some call this a "credo." Some call it heresy. We call it Andorian honour and
sportsmanship.

SPY REPORT
Well, what are you looking at, ARUAK CITY? Ain't you never seen Snide Clemens
before? Ah, shaddup and listen to my news. With any luck, I can sneak into The
Victory Tavern and join NEVERWAKE's celebration over their good record this turn.
13th place, not bad. Why not, I'm having a good day, so I feel sorry for THE
HEADCUTTERS II, who went 1-4-0 and dropped 15 into 20th. Here's my pity, for what
it's worth. If The Victory Tavern is buying drinks for DOG SOLDIERS' good turn, I'm
afraid the place will be dry before long. A 1-0-0 makes for a big thirst. Gee, I'm
impressed, a 4-1-1 is nice, but don't get cocky, FISH MONGERS III, the Fates teach
humility, and the Fates are proud. Of course, we're all terribly impressed to see
SHAREKA win a fight and gain 21 points, terribly. Tsk, tsk, CHERRY CHEETAH beat TONY
MCALPINE and TONY MCALPINE lost 11 points. You're breakin' my heart. B.S.
challenged CONNOR MACLEOD for ARUAK CITY's Title this turn, and guess what happened?
And if variety is the spice of life, ARUAK CITY may be getting bland, as B.S. stays
top dog in the city. I'm not in a very good mood today, but why am I telling you
this? You want to know what's new, don't you, ARUAK CITY?
He who fights and runs away will live to fight another day, the coward. What's
the big D? MORAL FIBER was the most avoided team? Bunch of lily livered...
grumble... mumble... curse... And it looks like MANIC MARVELS avoided them the most
this turn. What a pack of would be losers, if you ask me. Hmph. Ooh, I'm
frightfully impressed, DOG FASHION was this turn's most challenged warrior. Watch
that ego swell, sports fans. I guess I can give a little credit to GANYMEDES of
MYTHICAL for challenging up by 21 to NILA SUNDANCER. GANYMEDES won to get 59 points
of recognition. And we have LITTLE CROW in a challenge, going down 12 points for the
fight. Guess what? I thought LITTLE CROW showed great skill and promise when he
subdued DREIHDENBEAST. All right, so I slept through it! Big deal!
Some people like volunteer work in the hospitals. I volunteer for ARUAK CITY's
morgue. More variety. Bye bye, warrior, bye bye... KIP HARDEE, a glorious 4-6-0
fighter, has passed away. Gee, too bad KRILL CAVALRY. It's about time DOG FASHION
got beat for picking on warriors like FRED WEASLEY. Bravo, GRYFFINDOR HOUSE2. See
you at The Victory Tavern. Titanium shields and bamboo daggers, guess what brave
team is developing these kinds of weapons?
What does the ARUAK CITY arena have in common with the inns? It's just as
comfortable to sleep in either place. Ha ha ha ha! Phlllt! Just had to do that
before I leave the fine city of ARUAK CITY. I feel much better now. Glad to see the

TOURNEY FREEZE CHANGE -- ADVANCE NOTICE
Beginning at the Winter Face-to-Face in Tempe (January 2004), we will implement
several changes affecting tournaments. The tournament announcement for the upcoming
FTF and future tourneys will reflect these changes.
First, we will eliminate the tourney freeze for all regular DM warrior classes.
Regular DM warriors will not be classed ahead of the tournament, but instead will
fight according to their FE on the date of the tourney. There will still be a freeze
for the ADM classes, occurring on the same timeline as before, approximately 6 weeks
before the tournament.
In addition to the above change, the warrior classes will be slightly altered.
The new tourney classes will be as follows:

All regular DM tourney classes will remain solely FE based. All ADM classes will
now be based on warrior characteristics (i.e., the ADM split algorithm), including the
Freshmen class.
The Gateway and Primus arenas will be merging before the FTF to form one top
arena. These warriors will be split into two tournament classes, the Contenders and
the Primus classes, again based upon their characteristics. More information on this
will be published in the newsletters for those arenas.
