SPY REPORT
Hail and well met warriors of ARUAK CITY! Know me for who I am, Zontani Sharp
Eyes, Spymaster extraordinaire of all Alastari. There were bitter words at
IMMORTALS' guildhouse after a 2-3-0 showing this week which dropped the stable into
11th. Dark Arena anyone? Warriors--remember that glory waits always around the
corner! Witness how this week GERFEL'S FRIENDS went 2-2-0 to move up 5 in the
rankings. JEREMIAH JAY COOKE caught the eye of many in the gladiatorial commission
as he skillfully bested DELSBLUD and was awarded 25 points in recognition. In one of
the week's more notable duels, BODEL put down BUCKING BRAHMA, causing him to lose 15
points of recognition in the process. This time out FRANK ZAPPA made his bid for the
throne as he Bloodfeuded VIRGINIA'S SECRET in an all out contest of skill for
possession of the title! The city has turned out in honor of FRANK ZAPPA, for with
his arena victory he may now lay claim to the highest position in the city! Would
you believe that over half of the old women in ARUAK CITY seem to feel that they
could fight better than you gladiators?
But come now, let us look deeper into the maze of contention and crossed blades
that is city ARUAK CITY. ARUAK CITY, city of gladiators! Mighty among the names of
thy guilds is NEVERWAKE, a guild shunned and avoided by many in the weekly duels.
Methinks more than a few here could name the guild it was that spent the better part
of last week avoiding NEVERWAKE. Indeed it was BULLDOGS. Loose talk at the arena
has reached my ears and it but confirms the knowledge that many fighters are after JO
MOONCATCHER. Watch your back! A match that raised a few eyebrows at the games this
week, it seems that CALFSKIN posted a challenge against the more highly recognized JO
MOONCATCHER. The results, you ask? Well, the firebrand CALFSKIN bested JO
MOONCATCHER. Remember warriors, this is the discipline of steel.
Vendettas. Bloodied blades and broken spears. Indeed the city has seen more
than its fair share of red in recent times. Walk proud, warriors of THE HEADCUTTERS
II! By striking down VIRGINIA'S SECRET you have avenged the honor of your dead.
Your virtue is known to all in ARUAK CITY. Dark alleys may hide both secrets and
assassins. In the arena there is only the brightness of steel. Keep vigil always!
If it were not for my skills as a spy I would have been mugged three times
already in ARUAK CITY. Nice atmosphere you have here! Sadly warriors, now longer
can I keep thy company nor savor the ale of thy fine city. Depart I must and soon!
Till we meet again, remember: a turtle walks slow, hides head in a shell, and harms
no one; a lion runs to slay its prey.-- Zontani Sharp Eyes

PERSONAL ADS
Tankesh -- Ahhh, a fellow I can understand, and who understands me! Somebody that
speaks plain, and not like a frilly diplomat. Indeed, I believe you've done gone and
detailed what 'proper Andorian conduct' is for this old warrior.
That 'Health, Humility, Honor' phrase sounds nice, but tells nothing! Warriors
can maintain their health just as well by killing their opponents. Battlefields are
not littered with referees, you know! Humility is nothing gladiators can identify
with, as each one of them are braggarts and blowhards to the corps (ever read a DM
column after a particularly juicy fight, never mind the personals?). And honor?
Well, when my warriors pass from this realm, they get buried with full military
honors. Their service is NEVER forgotten, and we NEVER leave anyone behind!
Very well! I shall restrain my warriors from intentionally killing those around
me. Any warrior of mine that will issue a successful challenge to another in this
arena of lesser status shall be severely sanctioned, even dismissed from service,
unless it happens from the Throne, or in the case of a Bloodfeud (there, my friend,
all bets are off, as our own honor is at stake). I shall also instruct them to go
for the 'touch' or 'point' verses first blood.
They shall also be instructed to 'play nice.' You know, not get into too many
barroom brawls, proposition women on the streets (if they aren't hookers, then why
are they walking the streets?!?), and to chew with their mouths closed.
I can guarantee my warriors will follow my instructions, as they are excellent
warriors. They are NOT athletes, but Warriors. Soldiers of Mordant. They do what
they are told, no questions asked. I would lead them into battle on ANY front,
expecting Victory.
If you decide to visit Mordant, I'll help you locate a guildhall, and make sure
those graft-hungry bureaucrats don't gouge you TOO badly. Then we'll have a banquet
in your favor. *knowing chuckle* -- Lord Xiang
P.S. Yes, you've made me feel quite welcome! I realize you are in the role-play
mode, as you seem to realize I am, as well. It's all good! *grin* But doesn't it
sound weird telling gladiators, with sharp weapons (they ARE sharp here, right?) to
go out and play nice? *LOL*
Kennelworth -- Not feel welcome? I'd welcome you to Mordant with a banquet that
Andorian cities would never DREAM OF! Every manager and gladiator in the city would
attend, as well as many city officials. More food than would feed the city for a
week! Enough brews (of various vintages and potencies) to drown any Andorian city!
And more willing women than you could hope to get to know. *sly wink*
No, Sir, it is not the welcome that delays you, but the fact that your employees
(how can you consider them true warriors?) risk their lives in the best training
facility in all Alastari! If they die in the arena, then they surely would have died
on the battlefield, and therefore, are no significant military loss (thou their
families receive their gladiatorial pay in recognition of their love one's
willingness to risk their lives for Mordant's defense, even in training).
Perhaps if/when The Consortium recalls Mr. T or Pretty Pandora from retirement,
or if you, Sir, decide to visit, as I have here, with a team consisting of fellow
patriots, then you shall realize that we are not in business too different from each
other, as far as goals are concerned, just only in how we strive to attain those
goals. -- Lord Xiang
P.S. Thank you for the holiday wishes! I wish you, and yours, the best, as well!
Grog -- Welcome back! I'm recently returning myself, after a five year hiatus.
Could do worse than Kennelworth as a contact, and not much better, either! Although,
his method is more madness than most folks, there is no arguing with success! -- Lord
Xiang, mgr. Lethal Heritage
Woo-woo!! 4-1-0, with NO STANDBYs!!! This is a first since I've returned! The no
standbys, that is, not the 4-1. *LOL* This turn offsets last turn, bringing me to
my average of 3-2. I expect I shall stay there, give or take, until RSI closes down
the game. -- Lord Xiang
Tankesh -- If it wasn't you that invited me here on the boards, then it must have
been Adie. It was under the 'Larq issues forum, the one that made fun of the
misspelling of our regional name by the forum admin. *chuckle* Oh, right around
page 11, I believe. And I know Kennelworth extended an invite, but cannot remember
if it was PM or email, however. Either way, I'm here now, and you'll just have to
deal with it! *evil grin* Kinda like a church congregation with a hooker in the
front pew, winking and smiling at the minister! *LOL* -- Lord Xiang
P.S. No irreverence was intended, just caught me as a funny (and apt!) description
of Andorians with a 'Larq among them.
The Saint -- Get your computer together again? I'm still hoping for that managerial
list, but if technical difficulties are at fault, I can deal for a short time longer,
as needed. -- Lord Xiang
P.S. We, in Mordant, have not gone to such 'advances', as paper lists do not, um,
break into pieces on their own. Next thing you'll be trying to sell me is an
artillery piece that could knock down a city wall without being able to see the
city!! Or a missile weapon that can fire faster than an expert archer. LUDICROUS!
Yes, I seem to have recovered everything possible and not lost too much in the
process. This is teams that ran last turn. If I've gotten anyone's name wrong,
I hope they will correct me. -- The Saint, keeper of lists

Congratulations again to Virginia's Secret, Duelmaster. Perhaps now your success
will no longer be a secret? Duelmasters drink free at The Bulldog Inn. See you
there. -- Kennelworth, Proprietor
Branford Hawke -- The newsletter spyreporter did you a disservice! You did not lose
to me because you are not good enough. No way. You lost simply because I was lucky!
And I will take it! -- Bucking Brahma, feeling mighty bucking lucky
Tankesh -- Yes, I will admit that I invited Lord Xiang to compete in Aruak City.
Will certainly liven things up, wouldn't you say? -- Kennelworth
Grog -- Old buddy! (I mean, really old, old Buddy!) Welcome back! It is great to
have you back in Aruak City, The Heart & Soul Of Andoria. We all missed you.
Health! Humility! Honor! -- Kennelworth
Virginia's Secret -- Well, I challenged all right. And it was certainly no secret
why you lambasted me. You are GOOD. A Salute to The Duelmaster. -- Calfskin
Saraya Steel -- That was fun, I think. I liked wrestling with you. And I liked the
result. -- Bull Horn
Lord Xiang -- Let me summarize Tankesh's dissertation of last. Attempting to kill is
unAndorian. Downchallenging is unAndorian. (except from the throne) Not treating
others with respect is unAndorian. Lauding kills, when they do accidentally occur,
is unAndorian. -- Kennelworth
Lord Xiang -- Perhaps you were looking in all the wrong places? The Bulldog Inn,
located downtown quite near the arena, is open 24 hours a day. The ale flows freely.
There are rooms to rent and stay upstairs. Quality meals (since Adie got involved in
running the place) are served both in the very large, boisterous bar area, and in the
rear family dining area. And a few lovely ladies of the night have been known to
appear to those interested. (It is unlikely that one's face will be slapped--unless
that is your interest--for a proposition, especially with a hefty tip.) The
"Bulldog", long the meeting place for all those affiliated with gladiation has become
a full service establishment for all in Aruak City and all visitors. Be there or be

Torry Fategiver -- A bad match for you, but a great one for me. I thank you. --
Windchaser
Kiri Dragonspear -- Ah. (shakes head mournfully) A young hotshot, I see. Be
careful, young lady, as we wouldn't like to see you meet an untimely end. -- Koro
Cloud
Adie and Tankesh -- I'll do my best, but things are hectic here at the moment.
Turkeys here, pumpkins there, cranberries rolling under foot, and (shudder) relatives
coming! -- the Scribe
Ghengis -- (indignantly) But nothing belongs to me! How else can I get anything
except by taking it? -- an unrepentant Embezzling Scribe
Almond Albatross -- I? How can *I* be chintzy, if I have no lands of my own and the
Commission provides me with nothing to distribute? Complain to THEM. -- Shinketh
P.S. I have always liked chintz. It's inexpensive, sturdy, and functional. Why
should one demean a perfectly usable fabric merely because it isn't silk, linen, or
wool?
L.P. Hot Dog -- Oh. I rather think that the tailor had some rather unpleasant
correspondences in mind when he suggested it, actually. But I have located a rather
nice, well, I think it looks nice, doghouse with wall-to-wall carpeting and a stained
glass window. -- Shinketh
Blood Grog -- Welcome back. It's been a long time. Hope to see you on the sands. --
Dartor
Lord Xiang -- I guess I should welcome you also. -- Dartor, mgr. Immortals
Gallows Pole -- Good attempt at holding me back. Lucky for me I had my strength and
endurance at a high level. -- Dirk Darkblade
Lord Protector Kalidor the Bold -- You understand, I hope, the problems now existing
with this whole "lands" business? And golems are at the bottom of the list of
"people who should be taken care of." I didn't make that list, so don't blame ME.
I'm doing the best I can in a damnable situation, let me tell you! Perhaps if you
were to make some suggestion as to what reward you expect? -- Shinketh the Harried
Lord Protector Marcus Kuerton -- You're maniacal? (backing away) Oh, dear. I
suppose you would consider the offer of a straight coat, um, flippant? No doubt you
would rather rule the world or some such, but, seriously, LOOK at our world! Who
would want it? Not that I can give it to you if you DO. (And a desire to possess
and/or rule this world WOULD be grounds for getting out the straight coat, as
indicating total irrationality.) Give me a clue here. -- Shinketh
