TEAM SPOTLIGHT
We Bulldogs would appreciate it if all teams, old and new, would conform to the
environment established for Aruak City many years ago. As the Heart & Soul of
Andoria, the principles and beliefs are different than in many other arenas.
Aruak Citians believe in a higher level of sportsmanship and that life is to be
revered. Therefore:
(1) Downchallenging (based on recognition points) is unacceptable--except for
The Duelmaster.
(2) It is expected that warriors will not aim for vitals, leading to longer
life.
(3) Kill desires are expected to be 6 or lower.
(4) Personal ads and Duelmaster Columns are expected.
(5) When accidental kills occur, we acknowledge the accident and often
apologize.
(6) While it is not demanded, many managers limit bloodfeuds to one avenging,
and will not challenge down to do so.
(7) We are friendly and reasonably courteous to each other.
Many find it difficult to live in this environment. Others, including darkholmian-
based, honor the Aruak environment while fighting here. It is true that "the rules"
do not mandate any of the above, but they are the expected mode when participating in
The Heart & Soul Of Andoria, Aruak City.
Please give the arena and its established managers the courtesy of living and
thriving within its expectations. Health. Humility. Honor.

On the shores of a lake:
Senator Sedalia stared at the magicians with consternation and displeasure.
The magicians stared back, in much the same mood. The one who seemed to be in
charge repeated his statement of position. "We came here to summon lesser daemons to
deal with certain problems in Istoreth," he said. "You appeared in response to that
spell. Therefore you are the summoned daemons and must do our bidding."
"And what if we can't deal with your problems?" Sedalia asked. There might be
some value in passing through Istoreth--a city on the Skaithvarn Peninsula, as he
recalled--in the character of magical spirits. And some risks.
The chief magician scowled. "Then you are the wrong daemons and must be
dismissed out of hand." His scowl deepened, and he tapped his wand on the palm of
his other hand. "A task which I am prepared to undertake without delay, it that
should prove... necessary."
"Or any of us!" another mage added.
"Summoned daemons should not be so quarrelsome," a third said. His fingers were
twitching. Since he was the one standing by the altar holding the knife (the victim
appeared to have been a rabbit), this was not encouraging.
Sedalia was quiet for a moment, reviewing what facts he had, then nodded
sharply. "It appears to me that you and we have been the victims of a daemonic
prank. Just as you cast your spell, your net, as it were, into the immaterial world,
my comrade and I were attempting to escape the magical bounds of the Isle of the Eye.
And some mischievous daemon, seeing a way to escape the spell himself, guided us into
it in his place." The senator shrugged. "You have, in a way, done us a favor. So
we will, so far as we can, return that favor by attempting whatever it was you wanted
the daemon to do."
The mages all stared at him fixedly for several moments, then turned to their
leader, consulting with glances.
Behind him, Gissanniah pinched his arm. "You don't know what they might want,"
she said, keeping her voice low. "We aren't demons--"
"Freely granted," Sedalia said, "though some might argue that politicians do fall
into that category. But they weren't fishing for demons. 'Lesser daemons', minor
spirits of some kind. And we are ingenious and capable. We may be able to handle
whatever is afoot."
"The spell specified that certain abilities believed necessary would be present,
and you could not have been substituted if you did not have them," the chief mage
said. "Therefore, we will allow you the attempt." He gestured toward a grove of
trees farther along the shore, where a carriage could be glimpsed. "Let us be away
to Istoreth and put it to the test."

Between Tarrgir and Andor:
"I don't believe this!" Fandil said. "After all these years of harmony, they're
just turning on their neighbors--"
Lenpro held up a hand to stop his companion. "Fandil, we could debate and
analyze till the cows grow wings, but it wouldn't do a bit of good. Just a post
mortem: How did the old Andorian League die? What we need is to act. Keep it
alive, make it stronger, a *new* Andorian League. Start thinking about that."
The old mage opened his mouth, then closed it again and frowned. Finally he
ndded. "You're right. Okay. Everything we've been able to find out indicates that
the king is dead or vanished, no one knows exactly how, but gone for good."
"Right. Somebody can investigate that later, if somebody wants to, but that's
done." Lenpro glanced over his shoulder at Tarrgir, fading into the distance behind
them. "Even if the king was found and returned to Andor, I don't think he'd be able
to rule effectively now."
"But somebody has to," Fandil said, nodding. "Not just to oversee the details
of government--although somebody should keep all those bureaucrats under close watch!
But--"
Lenpro laughed. "I suppose 'all those bureaucrats' are watching each other very
closely right now, making sure nobody gets more than their share of the power."
"Maybe so, but all they can do is keep it grinding along in the same old way,
and slowing down and dying in its tracks, if we could see a long view. No. We need
a visible head of the government, a king or whatever, to form the pole around which
the new Andorian League will crystalize."
"Right," Lenpro said again. "And it should be someone whose claim to that role
is beyond dispute. Andoria doesn't have *time* for internal disputes right now, not
with hostile and greedy neighbors. So it has to be Emperor Alonj of Fratsfa."
Fandil was silent for several minutes while their mounts negotiated a badly
graded slope and a weedy ford. Then he sighed. "I see your logic. The baron of
Ardivent is an elf, the head of the Aruaki Clanholds is an Aruaki. Neither would be
acceptable at this time to the rest of the Andorian population, even if they wanted
to take on the job. The High Thane of Convincia... isn't really up for the job, and
he's old. With the defection of Aradi, a Raltuman wouldn't be trusted. So that only
leaves a Fratsfan, and their ruler is human, the right age, and legitimate. But
there is a persistent rumor that he's a half-wit, you know. Even if it isn't true,
that will undermine the confidence of--"
"Lady Fern says he's capable enough," Lenpro said. "But that's a secondary
factor. He's the right man to serve as a figurehead for a new Andoria, so he's
hereby elected."
"Whether he wants the job or not?"
"Whether or not," Lenpro said. He reined his horse to the right at a fork.
"Which is why we're going to Fratsfa instead of Andor."
Andor:
Crystal Fireblade flicked a glance at the golem of the king, considering it and
dismissing it. "It won't buy us much time," she said. "You can make it look like a
king, but you can't make it act like one."
"There is a rumor," Herlas said, "a whisper of a rumor among the clerks at the
palace, that the golem is intended to announce its abdication in favor of some other
person. Maybe not today, but soon--we aren't the only ones who know this won't work
for long."
"Who?"
"Ah... probably Lord Korneth of Sengir."
"I have never heard of this Korneth, or of Sengir," the knight said. "What do
you know of him?"
"Little more than you do. He is as ambitious as any man I've ever seen.
Ruthless. As to his background, nothing. People who asked questions when he first
appeared... disappeared."

DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
Notes from the arena champ.
Well, it seems only right that a princess be at the realm in Aruak City, doesn't
it? I was surprised, but pleased to match up with Sly, especially since I double-
challenged him. The gods take care of us royalty; we pay them enough! Oh, it wasn't
easy beating Sly Apparition, as he was hard to hit, but I persevered. I did. And
now I am Duelmaster.
Usually one uses this forum to speak about one's own self, but I would rather
tell you about my friend Black Eye who was just promoted to Lord Protector. Way to
go, Blackie!
Black Eye started as a 12-10-9-17-15-10-11 stereotypical slasher. He was hosed
in damage (one ST bump to good) and +3 attack. He learned pretty early on to like
the broadsword (43-168-19) but he also used the scimitar (10-39-9) well. He learned
skills pretty quickly at a 2.31 skill/fight ratio. He didn't seem to want to learn
decise (boo!), but surely loved those parry skills! (boo) It is amazing he did so
well, finishing 15-6-0. He ended only master initiative and adex attack. His faves
were BS/VH/LO and his favorite learn--parry! I understand he plans to retire.
What next for me? Well, I guess I should challenge and avoid someone, and there
are a lot of total parries and aimers just waiting. We shall see what Purple people
Eater says.
Come and get me everyone. But you'll have to get through my friends the Seven
Dwarfs first! (ha ha)
Snow White, Proud Colorific
SPY REPORT
Well, what are you looking at, ARUAK CITY? Ain't you never seen Snide Clemens
before? Ah, shaddup and listen to my news. Later days, TECHNO 8, since NIGHT'S
GUARDIANS took top team from you this turn, you guys are old news. If this keeps up,
PATRONAS VERITAS, you'll have to shine swords instead of use them. A drop of 6 in
the rankings? IMMORTALS turned their 3-2-1 turn into a 2nd place rank in the
listings this turn. Any better than this, and you get put on hit lists. Gee, I'm
impressed, a 3-1-0 is nice, but don't get cocky, WOLFBROTHERS, the Fates teach
humility, and the Fates are proud. Of course, we're all terribly impressed to see
DICKY V GOES POSTAL win a fight and gain 24 points, terribly. Tsk, tsk, SHOTGUN
GANDHI beat ERITHE ENDIREDRE and ERITHE ENDIREDRE lost 12 points. You're breakin' my
heart. Going for broke or broken, our Duelmaster SLY APPARITION challenged this
turn. And it's out with the old, in with the new, as SLY APPARITION takes the Title
and last week's bar tab from the old Duelmaster. Heh, heh. I'm not in a very good
mood today, but why am I telling you this? You want to know what's new, don't you,
ARUAK CITY?
Well, let's take a look at some more misdeeds of you miserable sword-boys.
ARUAK CITY, I am losing what little hope I had in you. BULLDOGS the most avoided
team? What insult will suffice, I cannot say. And who led the way in this mass act
of cowardice? Let's see, well, whatcha know? It was NIGHT'S GUARDIANS. Ha ha ha
ha! Ooh, I'm frightfully impressed, HORSEFLY was this turn's most challenged
warrior. Watch that ego swell, sports fans. Looks like time for laurels or hemlock,
WINTER DAWN was challenged by SARAH BELLUM, who was ranked 26 points below her. Not
that I'm surprised or anything, but SARAH BELLUM lost to WINTER DAWN, leaving the
latter lower for recognition points. And we have KEEPER OF SECRETS in a challenge,
going down 13 points for the fight. Guess what? I thought KEEPER OF SECRETS showed
great skill and promise when it subdued BUTTER BURRO. All right, so I slept through
it! Big deal!
Death and Taxes. The less death I see, the more it taxes my patience. Let's
see if anyone's dead or dying. Now hey, I like to see a death as much as the next
guy, but hey PATRONAS VERITAS, whyja send DIAZINON to the Dark Arena, look at his
record, huh? And what a stunning loss we have here, boys and girls, DOUCEZ WYLDE of
HELL'S BELLES has added the final loss to hers 4-5-2. Tee hee! Let's see, 8-4-0.
Pretty good record for a living warrior. A sad one though, for a dead one. Such is
the case for LETHANDER of PATRONAS VERITAS. Tsk. Bye bye, warrior, bye bye...
TRUFFLE, a glorious 7-4-0 fighter, has passed away. Gee, too bad TECHNO 8.
Seriously now, is it really honorable for SMUSH from NEVERWAKE to kill DOUCEZ WYLDE
and give HELL'S BELLES the chance to bloodfeud? Mmmm, could be. It's about time
DOUCEZ WYLDE got beat for picking on warriors like SMUSH. Bravo, NEVERWAKE. See you
at The Victory Tavern. Not that I'll be buying the drinks, but I'll be glad to see
TRIPPER and TECHNO 8 at The Victory Tavern tonight celebrating their bloodfeud
victory over ROXANNA DEHEDD. Honor is like a chainmail shirt, it only shines through
use. Certain nameless cowards will doubtless rebuke me on this one.
I was about to buy a new quill pen the other day, but some fighter took it for
an epee. Forgive me for writing with a dagger. Phlllt! Just had to do that before
I leave the fine city of ARUAK CITY. I feel much better now. I see the crowds are
getting restless, I must leave now-- Snide Clemens

*TURF WAR VI RULES*
Starting Nov 2008 (10 turns)
Anyone may participate; known alliances, new alliances, or temporary alliances created solely to compete in the Turf War! To participate, each alliance must:
1. Announce the alliance and the Captain of the alliance in the North Fork
(DM 47) newsletter.
2. Announcements made on the D2 Forums will not be accepted.
Captains are responsible for:
1. Verifying those who wish to participate under the banner of their
alliance;
2. Distribution of prizes should their alliance win the Turf War.
3. Submit one (1) RSI Roll-Up Certificate to participate
Participating managers who are not Captains must:
1. Submit one (1) RSI Roll-Up Certificate to participate
2. Announce their intent to compete with manager name, team name, and
alliance they will represent in the North Fork (DM 47) newsletter.
Announcement made on the D2 Forums will not be accepted.
a. No scores will be tabulated until a Gift Certificate is received.
No EXCEPTIONS.
b. Before a manager can compete, he/she must declare themselves in
the North Fork (DM 47) newsletter as stated above AND be verified
by the alliance Captain they will represent.
c. Only one (1) team per player may compete. No multiple teams or
aliases will be allowed. Violations will result in immediate
disqualification from the Turf War (so be sure to take any
multiple teams OFF of Team Maintenance).
d. Scoring will NOT be retroactive for teams that do not properly
declare or fail to send a Gift Certificate by Turn 1. In other
words, if your Gift Certificate is not received until Turn 3 of
the Turf War, and you have fought on Turns 1 and 2, your scoring
will not begin until Turn 3. All conditions must be met before
scoring will begin--declaration, verification, and Gift
Certificate received.
e. No declarations or verifications will be accepted after Turn 5 of
the Turf War.
f. For purposes of scoring, the moderators will score the Turf War
and settle any and all disputes as they arise. Their decisions
will be final.
Scoring will be as follows for Fights:

Champions:
1. A Champion may be declared, but one is not mandatory.
2. Only one Champion allowed per manager at any given time.
3. Champions that graduate or are killed by another warrior in the arena, but
not the Dark Arena, may be replaced.
4. Champions must be in the Adepts bracket or lower on the turn they are
declared, and may NOT have gone above Adepts level at any time; this
includes teams transferred into North Fork for the Turf War.
Bloodfeuds:
1. Bloodfeuds will score points on all four (4) turns.
2. There is no limit to which warrior may bloodfeud or how often.
Tournament Considerations:
1. Tournament participation is ALLOWED and encouraged.

(1) time bonus of 50 points. This bonus will apply EACH time a
warrior(s) win such status.
4. Points for TVs and TCs will be applied the Turn after RSI posts
tournament results in the North Fork (DM 47) newsletter (i.e., if the
results post on North Fork turn 275, points will be credited on North
Fork turn 276 to the applicable teams).
Special Considerations:
1. Each alliance begins the Turf War with zero (0) points.
2. There will be NO alliance or team changes once the contest has begun. If
you begin the Turf War with Alliance A, you must end the Turf War with
Alliance A. If you begin the Turf War with Team A, you must end the Turf
War with Team A.
3. There will be a maximum of seven (7) teams allowed per alliance for the
Turf War.
4. The Dark Arena may be used on the first turn only, of every warrior,
without penalty.
Prizes:
The Turf War is a "winner take all" contest. All prizes and 100% of the Gift
Certificates will be awarded to the Captain of the winning alliance. It is the
responsibility of the Captain to distribute Gift Certificates. Moderators will
submit a list of each manager on the winning alliance to RSI at the completion of the
contest for the non-Certificate prizes.
The following prizes have been secured from RSI:
1. Renaming of the North Fork (DM 47) arena;
2. Renaming of Dark Arena Monsters (one for each manager in the winning
alliance);
3. Known Favorites for one warrior on each team of the winning alliance

These awards will be listed by the Moderator for claiming from RSI (Lee) within 4
turns of the end of TW VI.

dealings during the course of the contest. Their decisions will be final. All
questions, comments, and scoring disputes may be directed to Land of Oz or Darque
Forces via diplo in DM 47. Managers with internet access may send a private message
to [The Consortium] or [Darque] on the Duel2 Forums. Lastly, you may also email
