Fratsfa:

Lenpro looked around at the misty vistas of the park, at the two weathered
benches, and then at Lady Fern. "Here?"
Fern sat on one of the benches and looked up at him. "Of course, here. Surely
you didn't expect the wife of Emperor Alonj to come to the Flower Shoppe? The rumors
that would start--! No, no, trust me, this is better."
Lenpro shrugged. She was probably right, but he didn't feel like admitting it
just then. He looked around at what he could see of the park. Lawns, flower beds,
trees and statuary set with equal care. No people on this chilly morning. No place
for eavesdroppers and spies to hide. Okay, it was as safe a place to meet as they
were likely to find. It was also early, and cold, and damp, and the bench was not
the most comfortable he'd ever sat on.
Movement caught his eye. A woman alone--no, not alone. There was an older
woman with her, and two men, but they kept back a little. Chaperon and guards. The
woman was Fratsfan to all appearance, tall, blonde, and regal-looking. Coming toward
them. As she neared, he saw that she had slanted eyes, not in the elven fashion that
some Fratsfans did, but after the Adantri style. And if he needed further
confirmation of her identity, she wore a sword as though she knew what to do with it.
She strode over to the benches, nodded once to Lady Fern, and faced Lenpro, saying
nothing but raising one eyebrow in question.
Lenpro blinked, wondering how to start the discussion. He hadn't expected it to
be this hard, and she wasn't being helpful here. He took a deep breath. "We need
Emperor Alonj to take over as head of the Andorian League," he said.
     "No."
"The king is dead, no heirs, and Alonj is best placed to step into the role."
"No! Alonj has no desire to govern more than he does now, and this is work
enough for any man. Find someone else."
"I truly believe there isn't anyone else who could do the job," Lady Fern said.
"Only Emperor Alonj has the legitimacy to avoid a civil war."
The Empress Kitiara sighed and sat on the other bench. "I know. We can see the
situation as well as you do, I suppose, and we've talked about this. And about
personal choices and public duties."
"Then you can see the need," Lenpro said. "Without a firm and accepted hand on
the reins, the Andorian League will fall apart."
Kitiara looked at him for a moment. "Is this bad?"
Lenpro stared, shocked at the question. This woman was from a highly placed
family in the Empire of Lirith Kai, and she could question the value of a unified
government? "Of course it's bad! Without the League--" He groped for words.
"War between Convincia and the Clanholds?" she suggested. "Raltuman piractical
raids on Ardiventi shipping?"
"War between the Delarquans and the Karnhorns, fought across Andorian lands,"
Lenpro countered. "It's the united strength of the Laague that keeps them from
encroaching."
"I could argue that," she said, "at least about the Delarquans. But I suppose
this isn't the time for it."
Lenpro bit back the argument he'd been about to start and nodded. Later for
that. "You said you'd discussed this with Emperor Alonj. What conclusions did you
come to? What are you--is he--prepared to do?"
"For now, probably about what you want him to do," she said, grimacing. "Take
over central authority in the Andorian lands for the duration of this emergency. And
yes, we know that 'this emergency' is actually a complicated situation with may
different problems running together. And immediately organize responsible people to
start considering ways to resolve the individual problems once things are
stabilized."
"If he remains king of the League, that will solve the--"
"No, it won't. A king over the Andorian League is just a bandage over too many
cracks in the structure. It needs to be FIXED," she said.
     "What cracks?"
"Divisions and distrust between humans, elves, and Aruaki, for a start. The
running sore of the Assassins' Guild. The drain of too many of the best young people
through the arenas into death or the Isle--"
"That one is beyond our fixing," Lady Fern said. "As we've discussed before:
once the Gladiatorial Commission enters a country, it does not leave. Let's focus on
things we CAN change."
"Andor," Lenpro said. "That's where we have to start."

                                      SPY REPORT

You elder fighters surely remember me. The younger ones may call me Olaf
Modeen. I return to ARUAK CITY once again! Woof! ANIMAL FARM were a bunch of dogs
after TECHNO 8 got through with 'em! 4th ain't so sweet as 1st! Ya gotta be quick
on yer feet! Keep your elbow off the table! Thrust! Block out the pain! TECHNO 8
is now ranked 1st with a 2-3-0 turn. What's with THE ANALOG KID? He actually beat
PUBLIC ENEMIES' GODFATHER OF DIXIE, and walked away with 18 more points from the
fight. Major screwup at KRILL CAVALRY. WOODROW BILLIT lost 10 points to MIXED
BREED. Some new strategies, perhaps? Maybe WOODROW BILLIT will provide more easy
wins... NIGHT'S GUARDIANS' hatred of WOLFBROTHERS surfaced again as SEPHIROTH
challenged ARUAK CITY's top dog. Try as he might, SEPHIROTH wasn't good enough at
persuading ONEWOLF to step down from the Duelmaster's throne... I suppose you want
to hear some rumors and dirty gossip about your fellow fighters? Tough!
Speaking of cowardly avoiders and unfair challenges... The most avoided team
was ANIMAL FARM. In my day, no team with a 1136-642-38 would scare me off! What's
the problem, NIGHT'S GUARDIANS? What do people see in LILAC LIZARD? Hers 21-4-0?
ANIMAL FARM ain't talkin', but she's got 91 points. Keep challenging up 45 points,
DICKY V GOES POSTAL, and I won't have to write about you much longer. LILAC LIZARD
always accepts those kind of challenges... DICKY V GOES POSTAL did pretty good last
week in beating LILAC LIZARD to get 32 points. Why did LILAC LIZARD lose, you ask?
Simple: she wasn't good enough.
There have been some calls to lengthen the time limit. Do you want the fighters
to walk away, or not? How long have I been here? I got people to see, places to
go...
Well, I'm pretty much through. You guys need to get back practicing. All work
and no play makes Olaf a dull fighter. Work and play no fighter dull Olaf.
Olaffighterwork and no play. Time for my medication, so I'll leave now. Practice,
practice, practice!-- Olaf Modeen

Kennelworth -- Feel free to go on believing that, but the truth is that it's your
incessant whining that makes downchallenging you so much fun! -- Ichabod

Hmmmmmmm, the way I see it, echoed by my manager Mino, my abdication means that I
don't have to write a DM column. I wonder what Champion Onewolf will write? -- Ecru
Elephant

Tripper -- Oh my! You thwacked me. Scared me to near death! The mocha wasn't in my
coffee, it was in my pants! -- Mocha Monkey

Sepiroth -- What can I say but well done? -- Silver Snail

Gallows Pole -- I am a little surprised at that, but I take 'em where I can find 'em.
Today, you were my roadkill. -- Lilac Lizard

Ahoy, Critters. Keep up yer bloody fine work! Aye. Ceptin' ye, Monkey, ye mocha
lump of dump. Aye. -- Mino

Congratulations to Duelmaster Onewolf. The Top Dog (pun intended) in The Heart And
Soul Of Andoria drinks free at The Bulldog Inn. -- Kennelworth, Proprietor

Tom Sawyer -- Don't count on me painting that fence! I prefer other pastimes. --
Puppy Love

Pennywise -- I guess I am pound foolish. -- Mixed Breed (clearly from the dog pound)

Twoflowers -- You staked me out and drove home the win. A salute for avenging your
fallen teammate. -- Pup Tent

Erithre -- That sucked big time! -- Filet Mignon

Horsefly -- And they say I can't hurt a flea? -- Bark

Health. Humility. Honor. -- Kennelworth

Harlin Dobbs, Deadman's Hand, Doc Steele -- What can I say? I apologize. I am
surprised that my 8 FE and few skills allowed that to happen to one of Dobbs's
experience and skill. Mea culpa, -- Yellow Fever, Proud Colorific

Wanted me badly, did you, Keeper Of Secrets? Once a sleaze, always a sleaze? -- Snow
White, Proud Colorific

Cinderella Man -- Watched the movie again this week end. A great one! I was just
plain lucky. -- Brown Nose, Proud Colorific

An interesting thing happened on the way to the forum...out of eleven Consortium
fights last turn, eight were with lungers, resulting in a 2-6 Consort fiasco. (2
challenges, 1 bloodfeud, 1 our challenge, 4 randoms) Does that mean lungers have
once again become THE THING? Obviously our three Managers must find an answer to
this. BTW, all others, BA, PL, TP, went our way. -- The puzzled Consortium Elders

Pup Tent -- So sorry, I was to understand you were a convenience for sleeping. --
Twoflower

Jon Flute -- Sounds more like a pirate name.... -- Thunk

Oh like wow, I rhought you were a real choco monkey. I have the munchies bad. --
Tripper

Drayton -- Hmph. -- Tonk

Shy Meerkat -- You didn't seem all that shy. -- Tink

Is everyone ready for the tournament? I have a few guys I want to get back from the
dead and this will be my first attempt. I haven't entered any tournaments in over 10
years. -- Dartor

Puppy Love -- I'm getting better with my attack. Maybe next time will be a different
story. -- Tom Sawyer

Stable Boy -- Finally, I outlast someone. -- Working Man

Tonk -- I am honored to defeat a Technogeek warrior. -- Drayton

Bark -- Huh, you should be called "Bite." That's what you do, after all. --
Horsefly, willing to do a little biting himself if you'd just stand still

Thunk -- Yes...that was the way it sounded from the inside, too. -- Jon Flute
P.S. I suppose that's better, marginally, than "squish."

Working Man -- A likely story! -- Stableboy

The Userous Merchant is just an old softie when properly approached. -- Song of
Summer

Worried Wallaby -- And so you should be! This is a dangerous life, after all. --
Woodrow Billit

Hail Alastarians!
Allow me to introduce myself. I am Vanek, manager of the Warmasters in the No-
Tourney arena of Shadowspire. I come to you with a public service announcement.
Some of you may already be aware of Shadowspire and some of you may not realize what
exactly you're missing. This isn't your average arena. This is Shadowspire, a large
and very active arena where role-playing is encouraged; many managers are active both
the personal ads and the D2 forums online, and excitement reigns with many grudge
matches from turn to turn.
If you haven't checked arena 81 out, I urge you to do so. After returning to
the game almost 2 years ago, after a 15+ year hiatus, I was looking to try and
recapture the magic of the game I remembered from my youth. After finding my first
two arenas lacking, I almost quit the game again. That was until I found the newly
opening Shadowspire. It was here that I found the magic and excitement that I
remembered. I truly love this arena and am sure you will too if given a chance.
Rookie or experienced veteran, it matters not. Both have come together here to
successfully make an arena with plenty of competition to challenge the vets, yet with
the no tourney format, friendly enough for the novices to get their feet wet and
learn (or relearn) the game. When I say that even novices can find success here, I
speak from personal experience. I still consider myself a "newbie" to the game but
have found plenty of success with my first two Duelmaster titles and two ADM
graduates to date.
I encourage you all to check out the D2 forums at www.reality.com/duel2/ and
look over both the Shadowspire newsletter and DM-81 forum section at the bottom of
the page. The forum banter and personal ads help to clearly show that the "old
school" feel for the game is still alive and well here in Shadowspire.
Also, if you're a former Shadowspire manager who is currently away, I encourage
you to return and help continue to make this one of the most entertaining arenas in
the game today!
I hope to see many new faces in the near future and am excited to see the return
of some of the old faces whom have been away!
     Sincerely,
          Vanek

After 17 long years they are finally cutting the Cowboy loose. Red & stinging, my
hand is now sufficiently slapped. The state of Texas' boot print is stamped across
my ***... Uncle Damnit! I am only 34 (think about it...) so plenty of time to
reinvent myself...prospects are great. After wading through the culture shock I hope
to be amongst you soon, dishing out paper "w"itch slaps and taking my share of them
from you. See you @ the Winter face '09? Only time will tell. Good luck. --
CFH/Rat Salad, 5 Below Zero and an assortment of other underachieving thugs.
P.S. Contact info coming soon for those who want it; email and all that other fun
sh...stuff. *grin* Sorry Ed.

                                 *TURF WAR VI RULES*
                            Starting Nov 2008 (10 turns)

Anyone may participate; known alliances, new alliances, or temporary alliances
created solely to compete in the Turf War! To participate, each alliance must:
        1. Announce the alliance and the Captain of the alliance in the North Fork
            (DM 47) newsletter.
        2. Announcements made on the D2 Forums will not be accepted.

Captains are responsible for:
        1. Verifying those who wish to participate under the banner of their
            alliance;
        2. Distribution of prizes should their alliance win the Turf War.
        3. Submit one (1) RSI Roll-Up Certificate to participate

Participating managers who are not Captains must:
        1. Submit one (1) RSI Roll-Up Certificate to participate
        2. Announce their intent to compete with manager name, team name, and
alliance they will represent in the North Fork (DM 47) newsletter.
Announcement made on the D2 Forums will not be accepted.
               a. No scores will be tabulated until a Gift Certificate is received.
                   No EXCEPTIONS.
               b. Before a manager can compete, he/she must declare themselves in
the North Fork (DM 47) newsletter as stated above AND be verified
by the alliance Captain they will represent.
               c. Only one (1) team per player may compete. No multiple teams or
aliases will be allowed. Violations will result in immediate
disqualification from the Turf War (so be sure to take any
multiple teams OFF of Team Maintenance).
               d. Scoring will NOT be retroactive for teams that do not properly
declare or fail to send a Gift Certificate by Turn 1. In other
words, if your Gift Certificate is not received until Turn 3 of
the Turf War, and you have fought on Turns 1 and 2, your scoring
will not begin until Turn 3. All conditions must be met before
scoring will begin--declaration, verification, and Gift
                   Certificate received.
               e. No declarations or verifications will be accepted after Turn 5 of
                   the Turf War.
               f. For purposes of scoring, the moderators will score the Turf War
and settle any and all disputes as they arise. Their decisions
                   will be final.

Scoring will be as follows for Fights:
                Win Loss Kill Die
Challenge +2 -2 +5 -5
Match Up +1 -1 +1 -5
Bloodfeud +2 -5 +5 -10
Champion x2 x2 x2 x2
Dark Arena* +10 -5 xx xx
*After 2nd win, warrior scores no points for wins

Special Scoring Considerations for the Turf War are as follows:
Spy Report mention (team name only) +2
Style Master +2
Duelmaster +2

Champions:
     1. A Champion may be declared, but one is not mandatory.
     2. Only one Champion allowed per manager at any given time.
     3. Champions that graduate or are killed by another warrior in the arena, but
not the Dark Arena, may be replaced.
     4. Champions must be in the Adepts bracket or lower on the turn they are
declared, and may NOT have gone above Adepts level at any time; this
includes teams transferred into North Fork for the Turf War.

Bloodfeuds:
        1. Bloodfeuds will score points on all four (4) turns.
        2. There is no limit to which warrior may bloodfeud or how often.

Tournament Considerations:
        1. Tournament participation is ALLOWED and encouraged.
        2. Tournament Victors won during the course of the contest will gain a one
            (1) time bonus of 25 points. This bonus will apply EACH time a
            warrior(s) wins such status.
        3. Tournament Champions won during the course of the contest will gain a one
            (1) time bonus of 50 points. This bonus will apply EACH time a
            warrior(s) win such status.
        4. Points for TVs and TCs will be applied the Turn after RSI posts
tournament results in the North Fork (DM 47) newsletter (i.e., if the
results post on North Fork turn 275, points will be credited on North
Fork turn 276 to the applicable teams).

Special Considerations:
        1. Each alliance begins the Turf War with zero (0) points.
        2. There will be NO alliance or team changes once the contest has begun. If
you begin the Turf War with Alliance A, you must end the Turf War with
Alliance A. If you begin the Turf War with Team A, you must end the Turf
            War with Team A.
        3. There will be a maximum of seven (7) teams allowed per alliance for the
            Turf War.
        4. The Dark Arena may be used on the first turn only, of every warrior,
            without penalty.

Prizes:
The Turf War is a "winner take all" contest. All prizes and 100% of the Gift
Certificates will be awarded to the Captain of the winning alliance. It is the
responsibility of the Captain to distribute Gift Certificates. Moderators will
submit a list of each manager on the winning alliance to RSI at the completion of the
contest for the non-Certificate prizes.

The following prizes have been secured from RSI:
        1.  Renaming of the North Fork (DM 47) arena;
        2. Renaming of Dark Arena Monsters (one for each manager in the winning
            alliance);
        3. Known Favorites for one warrior on each team of the winning alliance
(warrior must be ranked Initiate or above, must be alive, and must have
at least one arena fight to receive this award).
        4. +1 Skill bonus potion for each manager on the winning alliance. Bonus
potion must be applied to a living warrior from (DM 47)
        5. +1 Skill bonus potion (one) for each manager who fights in all 10 rounds
AND 45 fights of the Turf War. Bonus potion must be applied to a living

            warrior from (DM 47)
These awards will be listed by the Moderator for claiming from RSI (Lee) within 4
turns of the end of TW VI.

Moderators:
The Moderators for this event will be Oz and Master Darque. They will arbitrate all
dealings during the course of the contest. Their decisions will be final. All
questions, comments, and scoring disputes may be directed to Land of Oz or Darque
Forces via diplo in DM 47. Managers with internet access may send a private message
to [The Consortium] or [Darque] on the Duel2 Forums. Lastly, you may also email
questions, comments, and scoring disputes to rebelnerfherder at yahoo dot com.

Please note there have been rule changes from the last Turf War. Please read them
carefully!

Contest will begin in November following the Fall Mail In Tournament.
