TEAM SPOTLIGHT
After 6 months of play, here are some observations from a manger returning after a 12
year absence. In no particular order:
-A lot more ABs are being run. And run better I might add.
-Postal service not nearly as prompt. Used to be 2-3 day arrival time.
Now it's 5-7!
-Arenas are a lot smaller.
-Several arenas closed.
-Very few personal ads being written, except for Jorja and the Consortium.
-DM 100 way too large and the regional ADM arenas (especially Andorak) are in a sad
state because of it.
-Tourneys were becoming the 'driving force' behind most managers play. Now it's to
the extreme.
-Not noticing much change in design philosophy. Maybe a little more emphasis on
physicals.
-For some reason it's now called DUEL II (it will always be DUELMASTERS to me.)
-The BIG R warrior generator program is an invaluable tool. By far the best thing
I've downloaded.
-If you are unable to attend F2F tourneys you can now have RSI proxy your warriors.
Even with running a single strategy it helps you somewhat keep pace in the tourney
scene. Where as before all you had were mail-ins unless your were fortunate enough
to have a proxy.
-The Consortium is still the King of basic. Taking roll-up that most wouldn't even
consider running and maintaining a 60% W/L record. And knowing this, makes losing
to him every bit as frustrating as it used to be. The more theings change, the more
they stay the same.
-After 12 years I still had RSI's address and my account # memorized.
-Customer service was great with providing me with skill learns and such from lost
data.
-Once again I actually look forward to checking the mail! where as while I wasn't
playing, no news was good news.

going to share some enemy intelligence with you all. We all hate the Colorifics and
their dastardly manager, Purple People Eater, so here is some basic info on them our

SPY REPORT
It is I, Novgorodny Vir, Spymaster of Spymasters. Look on my work, ye mighty,
and despair! WRATHMEN DM 20? Who? CHAOS CARNIVAL is the top team these days,
buddies! He who laughs last didn't get the joke. Speaking of laughing at jokes,
observe WRATHMEN DM 20. Last week they got 2-2-0 to drop by 4! Nothing works for a
team like victory (How's that for a perceptive observation?) as BULLDOGS can
attest... BULLDOGS had cause to celebrate, after HOT DOG got 17 points by beating
YARGHH SON OF UGHH. A certain someone should cut down on the drinking and practice
more, after losing 9 points to KONANN CEE. (Discrete enough, TSATHOGGUA?) BLUE
BULLDOG successfully staved off a grab for the roses by CONVICTED ASSASSIN of ARUAK
CITY. Does ARUAK CITY have no one talented enough to dethrone her? So who was the
warrior seen charging into immovable walls and challenging dead trees? Someone's got
a basic problem...
And how sociable are ARUAK CITY's warriors? Come, let us see. Like a horde of
jackals fleeing from the lion, so did the "warriors" in ARUAK CITY avoid THE JOKER'S
WILD. The warriors of THE JOKER'S WILD found their efforts at combat frustrated as
COLORIFIC apparently had more important things to do than fight. Everyone is famous
for fifteen minutes, and SHEANA is it right now. Most challenged warrior. Isn't
WRATHMEN DM 20 proud! Word has it RED-EYE suffered a romantic setback. Note how she
challenged GAG HALFRUNT, 31 points hers senior. The gods smiled upon RED-EYE, in
hers upset fight against GAG HALFRUNT. RED-EYE gets a win, 15 points, and a free
drink on me. (Next week, OK?) BENJY MOUSE found himself challenged by a warrior 18
below: REPRESENT. REPRESENT of ILLMATIC kept his wits as he beat BENJY MOUSE.
Is there life after death? Pragmatics (and warriors) know there is death after
life! Admittedly Death waits for no one, but me thinks LAST INTHE JUNGLE of ILLMATIC
(2-0-0) is being sent off a little prematurely. You've heard about SHEANA of
WRATHMEN DM 20. Death plays no favorites, and neither do I. What was a 4-6-0 doing
on the fields in the first place? Perhaps ARUAK CITY were the only ones left
untouched by GRAY AREA demise. Can anyone ever take his place? Or do I exaggerate?
Oh hard! that to strike a flame, the match itself must needs be wasting!
All good things must come to an end. As the seasons change, and the creatures
of the wild change also, so do I feel a yearning to leave this place. ARUAK CITY, I
leave you now. The Duelmaster has agreed to foot my bill at The Victory Tavern.

One can rip, parry, or dodge, getting a counter, and not attack. One could surmise
it indicates that the roll for attack was "missed" and that the warrior is not "high"
in attack skills. Or one could assume that nothing is wrong and he just rolled

Uncle D -- Hopefully you will get responses form others who are more qualified to
give advice... but in case they didn't notice your question, here's my 2 cents (which
quite probably is twice the value *grin*). Not knowing styles, FE (fight
experience), OE (offensive effort), AL (activity level) or KD (kill desire); all of
which play a part. The first thing that comes to mind is that your opponent's
initiative is a lot higher than your riposte. I saw those same statements recently
when my 13fe TP (9-13-13-15-15-4-15) was matched against a 17fe LU. My TP hasn't
reached expert in riposte yet, and you have to assume a 17fe Lu to be AE+ in
initiative. He got those statements in the first minute and a half until the lunger
started to slow down. Then he was able to riposte and attack. But as I stated
above; OE, Al and KD all play a role and not necesarily in that order! -- Kharadmon
