The lower two floors of the tower were water-tight, warm, comfortably furnished, and well provisioned with food and firewood, and she wasn't going outside without a good reason. The unseasonable warmth of a month ago had given way to bitter and unseasonable cold (where was global warming when you needed it?). The lake was more frozen than not, with a border of ice around the island and the water looking almost syrupy with suppressed ice. The ground had rung like iron under her feet when she made the morning circuit, and she was not looking forward to the evening circuit. But that was part of her agreement, written into the lease, that she patrol the island's shore twice a day. To look for what, cause or prevent what, she didn't know. But definitely not just because some idiot was out on the lake in a rowboat, freezing his butt off. She frowned. The idiot was beginning to look familiar. A gladiator? Well, they were idiotic enough, most of them, but who would...? Oh, Lady and Lord, it was Ugly Eddie! She'd as good as INVITED him to come out, back when she first moved out here and it had been warmer. What had moved her to make that stupid, STUPID comment about fulfilling his fantasies? Of COURSE that would bring him out. She stomped into the entry hall and began to layer on wool and furs. DUELMASTER'S COLUMN Notes from the arena champ. All -- The DMship! And I believe Budda'll bear me out when I say no one in no fight ever won the title in quite such a unique and ugly manner. Warhammer and short sword, a here-to-fore unheard of combination in the Riz...am I right? -- Ugly Eddie, Duelmaster SPY REPORT Thankyouthankyou. It's great for me, The Unknown Spymaster to be back in RIZTAB. Hope you enjoy the show. Oh, who am I kidding? I already got paid! COLD IRON BLOWS is no joke as it posted a 3-1-0 week advancing from 3rd place to 2nd place. Hey everybody, watch out for MADAM Y, who flew up 16 points in the rankings after mashing MARVANELLA like a melon. Keep your eye on this gal. And falling like a basher in the top ten was MARVANELLA, who dropped 12 points after a disappointing (to say the least) bout with MADAM Y. Drawing on all of his experience as a 12-8-0 warrior, MACHIAVELLI went for the Duelmastership against UGLY EDDIE this week. In front of all the crowds, MACHIAVELLI took the Duelmaster's crown for his own. I give the bum two weeks. An apple a day keeps the doctor away, but an onion a day keeps T.P.s at bay. Let's dig a little deeper into what's happening in the RIZTAB arena. Did you hear that COLD IRON BLOWS was most avoided team this week? Well, knowing the personal hygiene of COLD IRON BLOWS' warriors, I'm not surprised! And you guys like to boo me? Well, unsling your rasberries, cause CULTS-R-US beats feet every time COLD IRON BLOWS smiles at them. Try farming, eh? Well dang howdy, but if challenges were votes, TALA GOG would be president. Although it may be a contest she doesn't want to win. Death is kind of like a new puppy: he's always around wanting to play. (Ha Zontani, how's that for a wise saying?). DEXTER defied all odds and slew BUKKA THE TROLL in the Dark Arena. The only ones displeased were the buzzards, as BUKKA THE TROLL's meat is notoriously tough. Knowing when to use the right tactics at the proper time is a very important step on the road to Duelmaster. I think I had better cut this one short. It's been nice chatting to those of you whom I have not offended yet. Well, there goes another Spy Report. Good luck in next week's fights. And remember, you can pick your friends and you can pick your--(loud boos), oh, you've heard that one already!-- The Unknown Spymaster DUELMASTER W L K POINTS TEAM NAME MACHIAVELLI 6440 13 8 0 121 DREAMERS (142) CHALLENGER CHAMPIONS W L K POINTS TEAM NAME -ALEX SCHIMMELFENNIG 5748 12 4 1 134 THE NORTH (554) BUDDHA 6231 20 20 0 100 DREAMERS (142) LOSING IS FUN 6330 16 12 0 100 WHO DA MAN? Sorry I didn't end up teaching you more, but I was concentrating on winning and just wasn't as demonstrative as I might have been otherwise. I don't promise to do any better at teaching if you come at me again, as I will probably be all excited about the prospect of another win. But I can wish you good luck elsewhere. -- Tariliss Brother Zort -- Ah, you're leaving us, I see. Well, I wish you a good trip. Even though the Commission doesn't see it, *I* can tell you're part Shew, and every victory by a Shew or part Shew is a triumph over the Commission's stereotype of the "Stupid Shew." Go for it. -- Tala Gog Kool-Aid Drinker -- Your perversity is matched only by your really rotten taste in beverages. -- Winter Shadows P.S. Not to mention that if you spill any, no matter how much cold water and hand washing you employ, you will NOT get the stains out. You can even stain a SWORD with spilled kool-aid. Hideous stuff. Ah, yes, Khazrho the Zukali. I never met a Zukali I would trust, and I wouldn't trust this one even more. Or less? Anyway, somebody who's five-foot-seven and claims to be a Shew is going to get the hairy eyeball from me. -- Marvanella P.S. He's obviously up to no good. I mean, he WAS up to no good, so I stopped him. Madam Y -- Well, that was, perhaps, a trifle inaccurate, but someday you WILL be a fine opponent, I have no doubt. (sigh) And THEN, I'll lose to you. Drat. -- Sweet Betsey Brother Zort -- You have obviously been infamously misused by the Commission! Batter them (slowly) with your fists and serve them up on the altar of some ill-tempered demonlet! -- Tala Gog Arenamaster Rillion -- Like I'm going to enrich your already fat coffers? As if! -- Tariliss P.S. You darned bloated plutocrat. 24 January 2007 The Council of Lords would like to propose a rule change in ADM and Primus. We propose that Lord Protectors ranked "Grand Champions" and below (ADM) and "The Tower Guard" and below (Primus) be allowed to fight in the Dark Arena. This would not impact the top rankings or title match. Any managers who never got his fill or shot at fighting Gateway monsters would have it as an option. We believe it might spark some interest in the ADM/Primus realm for some managers. If interested, speak up in the newsletters or on forums under the "rules changes" thread and let RSI know. This could even be something to try for 12 months and then be re-evaluated. What say you, managers of Ghea? -- The Icelord sends.... 29 January 2007 HDFA Mission Statement "Show me the money!" This is the battle cry of a newly formed collection of like-minded individuals: The High Dolla' Free Agent$. We are not a tough guy alliance: No...we offer no battle without reward. We search for victory and the prizes and accolades that follow. We are motivated by winning and will freely use whatever means necessary to obtain our currency. No stuffy rules, no mandates, no constitutions, no leaders, only a few objectives: 1) Win as often as possible 2) Celebrate freely and revel in your victories; the more meaningless the victory the more we celebrate. Highsiding and chest thumping are encouraged. Ostentatious endzone celebrations with prop usage are encouraged, regardless of fines, penalties, suspensions or arrest by local authorities. It is important to let your opponent know how great you are; more importantly, you must let your own alliance mates know how great you are. This is a 1-up alliance, let the performance of your fellow Free Agent$ motivate you. If a Free Agent wins a TV, win 2; if a Free agent wins a contest, win a more prestigious one.
