Larkin here once again, with more interviews from the tourney. This time I'm
talking to a new manager, so new he doesn't even have a manager name. "Sir... what
would you like me to call you, by the way?"
"Why do you have to call me anything? I don't understand why you want to
interview me. There are lots of great managers here who could probably tell you
stuff--"
"I'm looking for a new perspective, the point of view of someone who is just
starting out with the gladiatorial games."
"Oh. Well, I guess that would be me."
"Absolutely right! Tell me, what do you think of the tourney? This is your
first, right?"
"Right, my first," the young man agreed. "And it's GREAT! Everyone is just
great here! I mean, most of these managers, they're, like, legends, you know?
Everybody's heard of them, and they have stables of HUNDREDS of gladiators, and
they've been polishing their tricks for YEARS, and I didn't figure I had much of a
chance, you know?"
"The popular view is that no matter how much you know, the arena can always
throw a surprise at you--"
"Yeah, yeah, I've heard that. I don't know if I believe it, but I've heard it.
But that isn't the best thing about this tourney. The best thing is that everyone
here has been GREAT. Or else I didn't meet them--the ones that might not have been.
But I think I met just about everyone, and--"
"And they were great. I'm glad. But perhaps you could tell our readers a
little more, maybe tell them how these experienced managers were great to you?"
"Well, yeah, okay. It's that everyone was so friendly and helpful, see? The
ENTIRE Consortium talked to me about warrior design, for instance. I learned a lot
there. And, well, there was Mannequin, and The Greek Guy, and I actually met
Manager, too! And they were all really helpful. Advice, you know, and charts, and
all that stuff that was so confusing. It was just the best experience! I'm going to
do it again, for sure!"

                                 DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
                             Notes from the arena champ.

Avenging Antelope sat at his desk in the Gladiator's Tower at the Dullens Arena.
As he finished his last batch of responses to the fan mail, a page ran in and dropped
a memo off in his IN-box. He glanced at it and jumped up.
He had forgotten the team practice again. This accelerated arena plan needed
some getting used to. In many ways it was excellent--he kept in good fighting shape
all the time and always had a fight to look forward to, however, he also had to
remember that practices were on Fridays, not Mondays and that...
"Argh! I forgot to write my Duelmmmmmaster's Colummmmmn again!"
The funny thing was that the streak had started in Dullens years ago--every
warrior managed by the Dark One who held a title HAD to write a column, or there
would be hell to pay.
True, there had been the occasional omission due to couriers being late, major
problems which arose, and there was even one time a Duelmaster was kidnapped before
the column could be written. THAT was quite the fiasco.
But for Avenging Antelope there was NO excuse.
He ran for quill and ink....

                                      SPY REPORT

Ready for some action-packed adventure, some thrills, chills and spills? Well
fergit it, cause this is the Spyreport for DULLENS. Too bad, THE CONFESSIORS, but
SATAN'S KINGDOMS was just too good to be stopped. MVP award for INMATE OF ARKHAM?
HARRY POTTER AND THE's proud of him after beating KOLYK and getting 18 points. Talk
about yer major upsets! THUMBSCREWS' match with ROLLING STONES cost him a loss of 12
points! The Duelmaster isn't going to stop just cause he's Number One! RAMSHORN
knows this. He was challenged by the Duelmaster. Don't you think the Duelmaster is
being unfair? I think AVENGING ANTELOPE should let RAMSHORN be Duelmaster for a
while, without fighting about it. Is the Duelmaster really being a real snob to his
teammates? Don't ask me!
I gotta admit I haven't been in "deep con caves" with any spies. Really, I just
wing this stuff. The warriors of THE CONFESSIORS must be getting lonely. They were
the most avoided team. Do you guys know something that I don't? I don't know what
HOUSE OF CARDS' been doing. They certainly haven't been accepting many fights from
THE CONFESSIORS, that's fer sher. Can CARDOW HUNTERS' SOFT ROCK be more popular than
me? He was challenged the most, but is that really the same?
What does a fighter fight for? I mean, the crowds don't give a hoot if someone
gets killed. Not after four more fights. Like, who is this guy??? SPEEDY SLOTH
gets sent to the Dark Arena, battles THE PHONE BOOTH, and returns to tell of it!!! I
bet SATAN'S KINGDOMS manager is surprised! D'ya think THE BRANK is feeling guilty
for killing DAGGERS DEEP's MARA BLADE, a mere girl? Naah, I doubt it. KALLI
ELISABETH bloodfeuded (is that a word?) SCOURGE for revenge over some guy's bad
fortune. Was it really worth it? Hey you guys, don't you think your families would
like to hear from you? Write! (Or have someone write for you.)
I really didn't, you know, study when I was a kid. Who would've guessed I'd be
a famous Spyreporter? I know how much you like reading this stuff, but I really
should stop. Its been really albendranius! Later, guys-- Debby Tonte

Huh, the problem with a one-week arena that runs on Monday is postal holidays. I
haven't gotten the last turn yet, so I'm going with the electronic version. My
sympathies to anyone who can't get the e-version. -- Jorja, Cardow Hunters

To the unnamed would-be bribe-ee on the local arena staff -- Phbbbt! -- Blackbuck

Avenging Antelope -- Yet again, you prove your worthiness to be called duelmaster.
Good work. -- Windwalker

Toodles Enslaved? Good thing, too. I wouldn't want to see him running around loose.
-- Darkwind

Ah, well, a win is a win, but the Drunken Guardsman was a gimme. -- Ramshorn

Inmate of Arkham -- I don't know why the stewards found my win incredible. I thought
it was right and proper. -- Blackbuck

Rolling Stones -- Ouch. This is some kind of judgment on my arena name, isn't it? --
Soft Rock
