Lapur:
Claybank walked along the bank of the stream that watered their pasture and kept
their horses happy. Except now, when the horses were unhappy and the pasture
withered. Because there wasn't much water left in the stream. A few stagnant pools,
and a trickle that flowed.
Windflower walked beside him. "The old people here say this is the worst
drought they can remember."
Claybank grunted, then squatted to check a tuft of... once they had been flowers
of some kind, and grasses. He touched a blossom that had withered into a tight,
colorless knot. "This isn't right."
"Of course it isn't, it's a major drought--"
He looked up at her. "I think it's a magical drought."
She blinked. "Are you sure?"
"No. But I think we should get someone to check on this."
"Why would anyone aim a drought at US? We're just one minor team of gladiators,
and serious weather magic is supposed to be HARD."
He stood and frowned at her impatiently. "Not just us. Lapur. Maybe even the
whole Charter Cities. We should send word to Dullens and Morya, see if THEY have a
drought condition, too."
"Even Rocanis. Maybe Trocar and Xochithlan--"
Claybank curled his lip scornfully. "Them. Who cares about them?"
"Well, they could be part of the problem," Windflower pointed out. "And they
might be part of the solution. We can't fight a magical drought. We don't know how.
But we can find shamans or magicians to do it, and if their places are being burned
up, too, they aren't as likely to charge a lot to fix it."

week's fights. Hey everybody, watch out for THAT I DO SIR, who flew up 12 points in
the rankings after mashing GRAY BEAR like a melon. Keep your eye on this guy. Ya
know, some days it doesn't pay to walk out on the sands. GRIM LAUGHTER was defeated
by GHOST OF ELDRAD and drops 14 points. Going for the gusto and coming up with aught
but bloody knuckles was MMM BEER's ARROGANT BASTARD, who was turned away from the
Duelmastership by MICKEY HANDS. Advice to bashers--never force anything, just get a
bigger halberd!
But enough of that bunch, let's get on to the wimps who like to avoid battle!
Remember that an arena is not always a safe place to be, but it is one of the
most interesting, though! Ask not the elves for counsel, for they will say both yes
