"All you HAVE?" he repeated. "Perhaps, but is that all the demonic sigils you MADE?" "An excellent question!" Sleeth said. He bestowed an approving glance on the Beggar, then resumed frowning at the Scribe, Le Plume. "Have you drawn more of these accursed sigils--" "Accursed, Sleeth?" Le Plume laughed sarcastically. "That's a fine word coming from you!" Grandmaster Sleeth bristled, and he was a man well designed by nature to bristle, being large and hirsute, with a low sloping forehead (but one which, none the less for that, concealed an astute brain) and massive shoulders. "I will have you know that the Cult of the Crooked Bone is a respectable, legitimate, minor cult!" Le Plume snorted derisively. "And further," Sleeth said, for he had a bulldog's habit of not letting go of something once he got hold of it, whether it be something material or immaterial, and whosoever might claim ownership of it, "you have not answered our question: to wit, have you drawn any more of these sigils? Come to that, where is the book you got them from? It should not be floating around loose in our town, lest we be overrun with demons!" His frown deepened as he further crushed the ashes formed by burning the torn-up sigils with one broad thumb. "And beyond that, I do not recall having heard of any book which contains all the sigils you had with you, save only the Dark Demonicon, of which no copy is said to exist save perhaps in the libraries of the Witch of the Grey Wand and of a certain ancient mage in the most distant East, whose name I shall not utter here. What book was it that held those sigils, how came you to have it, and what have you done with it?" "What an old fuss-pot you are!" Le Plume said. A shadow in the corner of the room stirred, disclosing the massive form of Dacio Torrans, the Ambitious Guard, who had been quietly drinking beer. Now he crossed the room to stand beside the table, looming over the slender Le Plume. "Those are good questions," he said. "Answer them." And he smiled. Le Plume, looking up at that smile, swallowed once. For it was a peculiarity of Torrans that, though he could not take the shape of a tiger as so many of his kinsmen could do, he one fang, and it was long and wickedly curved, so that when he smiled, it seemed to other people that a tiger would have been preferable. "I found the book," the Trustworthy Scribe said sullenly. Without speaking, his companions personified doubt. "I did! It was in a leather sack in an alley, with six and a half pairs of dirty socks on top of it and nothing to identify the owner of the sack or the socks." He took a deep breath. "But the socks--I saved them--are... peculiar. I can't imagine the foot they would fit." "Thirteen socks of a strange shape?" Sleeth sat back, and his frown was now a frown of deep concern. "Were these socks by any chance gray with red clocks?" When Le Plume nodded, the Grandmaster shut his eyes. "It is a dark thing," he muttered. Opening his eyes again, he said, "Where is the book?" "In my room," the Scribe said. "In my clothes chest, under my handkerchiefs." "Not your socks?" "No, the handkerchiefs." "Then there may still be time to avert disaster. Let us go at once to retrieve the damned tome!" * }%|[-----+O+-----]|%{ * }%|[-----+O+-----]|%{ * }%|[-----+O+-----]|%{ * ---===ANDORIAN REGIONAL NEWS===--- Duelmasters ----------- DM 8 ARKERS (turn 249): GOLDENEYE of BONDAGE (Spawn, mgr.) Once again I've been called out of retirement for my abilities and insights into Spyreporting. What's with RICK JONES? He actually beat THE DOGHOUSE's PUSSYFOOT, and walked away with 20 more points from the fight. Major screwup at THE DEATH SQUAD. DEAD MAN WALKING lost 8 points to SCARBOROUGH. Some new strategies, perhaps? Maybe DEAD MAN WALKING will provide more easy wins... Try as he might, ANGRY SHEW wasn't good enough at persuading SHADOWCAT to step down from the Duelmaster's throne... I suppose you want to hear some rumors and dirty gossip about your fellow fighters? Tough! No matter the time or place, men will always duel. How well I know the feeling of being the most challenged warrior, SCARBOROUGH! Don't make idle boasts, they may come back to haunt you. A fighter's lot is filled with strife, revenge, and killing. Some fighters don't accept this. The best do. Is it my imagination, or are fighters getting younger every day? To die so young, so gloriously! Many other cities have retirement homes for aged warriors. Any plans here? The end of another Spyreport! That's cause for celebration in my book! Remember--a good fighter needs both good skills and good luck. Until next time,-- Olaf Modeen DUELMASTER W L K POINTS TEAM NAME SHADOWCAT 3950 14 13 3 120 FRAG 'EM ALL! THE DEAD W L K TEAM NAME SLAIN BY TURN Revenge? PERSONAL ADS Edge -- A hearty welcome back to you. Good to see some people showing back up in this fine city. We have been lacking for teams recently... and I've been lacking for personals, personally. Kudos on coming back as DM, the angry one just isn't ready quite yet to hold that spot. Though it appears these 2 worlds will collide again for the throne. -- Street Legal, mgr. of The Death Squad Juno -- I appreciate it, actually. Y'know I felt like every time I turned a corner someone was waiting to attack me in hopes of weakening me for that first arena loss. My manager says I was merely paranoid but I swear there were forces at work behind the scenes. Nonetheless you beat me fair and square and I now sleep much easier. THANKS! -- Dead Man (Still) Walking The Doghouse -- No hard feelings whatsoever. I know that your guildhouse has been on good terms with mine for quite some time so I always took it in good fun! As frail as I was my skill level was enough to assure me a majority of wins, and avoiding death. Though I cannot go into specifics, as my manager sees me as a long term warrior, I was bonused in most skill areas and came out with good faves (I'm bursting to reveal but alas I cannot)! -- Zero the Hero Good luck to all at the tourney; somebody bring us at least a TV please! -- Street Legal Angry Shew -- What a temper, eh? You probably need to work on that, m'boy. -- Juno Dead Man Walking -- Walk faster, go farther. -- Honey Pup Visigoth -- I just don't feel like playing toady. Take your stick and throw it for some other dog, okay? -- Pussyfoot Scarborough -- Eh... not the Faire, huh? Darn. They used to have the BEST sausages.... -- Bowser The shame, the ignominy! Our only win this time was by Dim Hairy Thing (!) against a standby! The horror, the shame! -- the rest of The Doghouse, really in it today Edge -- Did we say "Hi"? If not, consider it said. -- Leeta and the "warriors" of The Doghouse, the next-worst thing to standbys P.S. If you write personals, we'll write back. Dim Hairy Thing -- What are you DOING? You'll ruin my reputation! -- Tomath Woodman, chartered Convincian Hero and Destroyer of Monsters Shadowcat -- In my better-paid days as a member of the Assassins' Guild, I would have laughed at you and then skinned you out for a trophy fur. Now... I fear our arenamaster is something of a wimp. -- call me... Potter, once a nobleman in good sitting (noblemen don't stand) and a respected member of the Assassins' Guild, now reduced to "fighting" as a standby and hating every minute of it 22 October 2004 Youngblood's Three and Out Contest I would like to take this time to announce and invite all managers to compete in what I think will be an awesome contest. If you haven't ever TC'd at a tourney before, here is your chance. The contest will start Wednesday, December 1, 2004, but a chance will be given November 17 to dark arena, only, any warrior that you do not see fit to run in the contest. So now that I have your attention, here are the rules (like you didn't know they were coming sooner or later). 1. Any manager participating can enter one team, only. 2. No sandbagging whatsoever. (I will keep up with it, every turn.) 3. No teams or warriors will be allowed to run after contest starts. 4. All warriors will run until they lose three times, after three losses they are eliminated. 5. If a warrior sits out a turn, they are accounted with a loss in the contest. This is to keep warriors with winning records from sitting out until the end of the contest. 6. If a warrior is killed during the contest, the replacement cannot enter the contest. 7. If a warrior is killed, bloodfeuding is allowed, but only by a warrior that is active in the contest. 8. If a warrior is run after being eliminated, the manager is disqualified from the contest, no questions asked. 9. Challenges are legal, up or down. 10. Contest will keep going until 1 warrior is left without three losses, and that warrior, of course, is accounted the winner. 11. All managers participating will be asked to purchase a rollup certificate, to be awarded to the winners of the contest. <<<PRIZES>>> As I have already said, and according to participation, rollups will be awarded to the first and second place managers. So the majority and minority of the rollups will be determined when all are accumulated. Contest Champion--2 Faves prizes, and majority of rollup certificates Contest Runner-up--1 Faves prize, and minority of rollup certificates So once again I invite all managers old and new to participate in what should be a fierce and challenging contest. <<<REMEMBER, FIRST OFFICIAL TURN OF THE CONTEST IS DECEMBER THE FIRST, AND AS I SAID BEFORE, THE TURN BEFORE (NOVEMBER 17TH) YOU MAY DARK ARENA CHALLENGE ONLY!!! ANY WARRIOR WITH ANY FE (FIGHT EXPERIENCE) WHEN THE CONTEST STARTS WILL BE ELIMINATED FROM THE CONTEST.
