Marianne, the Virginal Concubine, grimaced. "How does one lure managers?"
she asked. "I have no skill at that kind of thing." She picked up another bowl of
salt (where DID Le Plume get the stuff, Sleeth wondered) and balanced it in her hand,
eyes on the Kali-Florets. "I can be of no use in such matters."
"True," muttered Sleeth. "Yours is the art of putting off, not drawing in."
The Cultic Grandmaster had been repulsed by her himself. "I suppose you will just
have to stay with the current task, that of driving away the Things."
"I can do that," she said. She heaved her new load of salt at the Killory,
which twitched the frayed ends of its stalk and drew back. "But I could use some
HELP here, you know. I can't do it ALL."
"What about the other cities and arenas?" Dacio Torranz, the Ambitious Guard,
asked. He hacked at a Floret and jumped back as it burst into a mustard-colored gas.
"What if this stuff isn't just here?"
"Why should these Things be elsewhere?" Marianne asked. She skipped back from
the questing fibers of the Killory, treacherous as snares.
"Why not?"
"Torranz is right," Arenamaster Vasku said. His flaming sword sliced through
something that might have been a Spiny Yak, green and glossy, with ruffled leaves
hiding its deadly spines, leaving behind the horrid smell of burned hair. "We have
no way of knowing whether Le Plume shared his sigils with other scribes."
"Further," Sleeth said, "if the Accursed Tome is indeed involved, it may well
have manifested in other towns. And Le Plume had no monopoly on rash foolishness."
"I will communicate with other arenamasters," Vasku said. He sliced open a
Thing that looked like a three-clawed Gardening Spud. "They will spread the warning
and report any other incursions. But we dare not allow the arena to close because we
are too busy fighting Things. You must bend your efforts to thinking of ways to
attract managers, and to keep those few we still have."
SPY REPORT
Thankyouthankyou. It's great for me, The Unknown Spymaster to be back in TOBIR.
Hope you enjoy the show. Oh, who am I kidding? I already got paid! Hey everybody,
watch out for HAYWOOD JAB, who flew up 8 points in the rankings after mashing BOWSER
like a melon. Keep your eye on this guy. Ya know, some days it doesn't pay to walk
out on the sands. ANDILLIA was defeated by CIVILIZED CRIMINAL and drops 13 points.
Our battling duelmaster THE THING has managed to hold the title, fending off KHALHUMS
DWARF's none too subtle advances. Better luck next time, TOBIR. An apple a day
keeps the doctor away, but an onion a day keeps T.P.s at bay.
Here is other news that is of note. Well just about everybody wants a piece of
BOWSER, who was this week's most challenged warrior.
Remember that an arena is not always a safe place to be, but it is one of the
most interesting, though! VISIGOTH defied all odds and slew BANDIT PRINCE in the
Dark Arena. The only ones displeased were the buzzards, as BANDIT PRINCE's meat is
notoriously tough. Here's some advice: warriors with little wit and will may
encounter problems on the trail to the Isle.
Well, there's the manager of the TOBIR giving me the 'cut' sign (or is that
'They're going to strangle you in the alley?). C'mon, Leadfoot, let's make some
tracks. Hasta la bye-bye. (Loud choruses of 'Beat it, ya bum!')-- The Unknown

Haywood Jab -- Have you no imagination? Can you not consider a swipe or a bash
instead of that jab-jab-jab? I'm sick of it. -- Bowser the discontented
Corn 'Stache -- That looks silly. Those little corn silks don't go with your hair.
-- Chichi-Hooey
That's the first time we've seen a standby fight so desperately to get away. The
Delarquan Sailor plainly wants OUT of here. And who can blame him? We had sliced
beets at our guildhouse last night (gods know why), and damned if they didn't turn
into Slice-and-Dice Beets before our very eyes and forks. We'd get out, too, if we
could. -- Woofer and Andillia
I Bent My Wookie lost one hundred five points last cycle? Talk about a team on the
move! -- Leeta
Our congratulations to the silent Visigoth. Soon he will be an In-Visigoth in truth.

ATTENTION ALL YOU ALLIANCE-TYPE PEOPLE:
For the purposes of tourney newsletter alliance listings (when I am able to do them),
you may only be listed in ONE alliance. In other words, you have to choose! If you
are a part of Englebert's Alliance and Englebert's Alliance is "part" of Ruthrauf's
Alliance, I will list you EITHER as part of Englebert's Alliance OR as part of
Ruthrauf's Alliance, NOT both. The default would be the top-level alliance,
Ruthrauf's, in this example. If you'd rather be listed separately, let me know and I
will do so, but that will be the only listing you get. -- The Saint, keeper of ever-
more-complicated lists

The Company of Brothers (TCB) welcomes two new members to our alliance...Liam the
Goth and Buddy Lee. We have no doubt that they will prove to be assets to our
alliance and the general dueling community. -- Baphomet, co-founder, T.C.B.
