The door to the arenamaster's apartment, which was over the arena offices, burst open, and a particularly wild-looking Black Orc was framed therein. "The Clishay Paladin is here!" Arenamaster Vashku aimed his glowing red eyes (he had drunk a lot of wine in the past hour, which had this affect on him) at the orc. "It is customary to knock," he said, his diction precise. Jorge Black Orc, who had been glared at by arenamasters before, shrugged that off. "Not when there's a White Knight ravaging the town!" "White Knights." It was clear from his tone that had this not been his own apartment and his own carpet, Vashku would have spat on the floor. "Paladins. This is your doing, Harkon!" The Aradian, whose eyes were also red (but not glowing), shrugged. "Not really. They were already here, they just weren't noticeable till I entered the town with the magical device of seeing-things-as-they-really-are." He reached into a pocket and pulled out a battered magnifying glass, legacy of the deceased detectress Nancy Drew. "In the presence of this, all truths may be revealed." Vashku recoiled. "That is an evil thing and should be destroyed immediately, although immediately is already too late." "I wasn't going to aim it at YOU," Harkon said. "That would be...." He shuddered. "I won't do it. So you don't need to worry." "I wasn't worried," Vashku said, snarling. "What I said was--" "Could you guys have this argument later?" the Black Orc asked. "Right now, there's the White Knight to deal with." "White Knights are the Good Guys." Marianne, the Virginal Concubine of Tobir, emerged from an inner room, startling Harkon, who nearly dropped his wine cup. "Why are you going after a Good Guy?" "There are hidden currents here," Jorge Black Orc said. "The White Knight is a Clishay," Harkon added. "No Clishay is ever truly good, however he, she, or it may appear at first glance." * }%|[-----+O+-----]|%{ * }%|[-----+O+-----]|%{ * }%|[-----+O+-----]|%{ * ---===ANDORIAN REGIONAL NEWS===--- Duelmasters ----------- DM 8 ARKERS (turn 270): INOCHI of YAKUZA (Sensei Jan, mgr.) Boss has always told me I would be the first warrior to achieve Duelmaster after his hiatus from the arena life. I'm just glad to be able to deliver the goods. Sippycup Sam, I must say job well done. I didn't expect my challenge to go through, but with your efforts I was able to achieve the boss' goals. Thanks for your duplicity in the matter. I don't know if I will give you the shot back or your team mate Binkie. I'll just leave my challenges open and let the cards play out like they are supposed to. I believe the next three turns will be a dandy good time. Seraphim, the boss is expecting you to get your warriors up in the rankings soon so the throne can stay in AP's hands. I'll do what I can to make sure the plans go through. Tobir, your Duelmaster bids you a good day. Mitochondriac, JGW's first waste to hit the big time. SPY REPORT If you were disturbed from your beauty rest only to have to watch a bunch of TOBIR brutes like you, you'd be grouchy, too. Later days, PLAYPEN, since THE DEATH SQUAD took top team from you this turn, you guys are old news. Gee, I'm impressed, a 4-1-0 is nice, but don't get cocky, BIO WARFARE, the Fates teach humility, and the Fates are proud. Of course, we're all terribly impressed to see GOLGI APPARATUS win a fight and gain 17 points, terribly. Tsk, tsk, BURNT OUT HIPPIE beat E COLI and E COLI lost 7 points. You're breakin' my heart. And if variety is the spice of life, TOBIR may be getting bland, as MITOCHONDRIAC stays top dog in the city. Kickbacks and bribes, kickbacks and bribes, how else do you think some of these guys win their fights? Skill? Ha! Well, let's take a look at some more misdeeds of you miserable sword-boys. THE DEATH SQUAD, I suppose you'll be glad to know you were this turn's most avoided team. Care to know who is the most afraid of you? And who led the way in this mass act of cowardice? Let's see, well, whatcha know? It was BIO WARFARE. Ha ha ha ha! ANDILLIA was challenged more times this turn than the Duelmaster. Now was the DM insulted or feared? Heh, heh. I guess I can give a little credit to CYTOPLASMIC of BIO WARFARE for challenging up by 25 to LITTLE DEVIL. CYTOPLASMIC won to get 90 points of recognition. Some people like volunteer work in the hospitals. I volunteer for TOBIR's morgue. More variety. Honor is like a chainmail shirt, it only shines through use. Certain nameless cowards will doubtless rebuke me on this one. What does the TOBIR arena have in common with the inns? It's just as comfortable to sleep in either place. Ha ha ha ha! Well, I've had enough of this drivel, and I'm sure you have too. Off like a dirty shirt of padded leather. With seventeen teams declared, running under eight different flags (not to mention six additional non- Olympic teams present), it is looking to be as tough as any previous Olympiad, if not more! Olympians petitioned the Commission to make an allowance for late entries, and the Commission agreed, and will allow new entrants to partake, as long as they are active by Round 3 (T546, due May 29th). So if you wish to enter, please email your intentions to amicitia@gwi.net with team name, manager name, and affiliation (alliance name or independent), or show up in Mordant (DM-1) on, or before, May 29th and place your declarations in the newsletter!
