"Of course he says that! He's a slave, isn't he? They always lie."
"And sometimes they're framed. Who else could have taken the money?"
"Why do we care, Peach?" Oran Ji asked.
"Somebody's got to! Lots of people already think Kjarran is a god of injustice,
and if we let things like this happen, people thrown into prison or the arena on
accusations that are unproven and unchallenged, we're just confirming it!"
"But who cares what foreigners think?" O. Fish shook his head. "The Embezzling
Scribe is just a slave, anyway. He doesn't matter." His eyes narrowed. "Or are you
one of those soft Jaydeite heretics?"
"It could be...dangerous to ask questions in this case," Oran Ji said. "He was
accused by Lord Zakarin."
"Zakarin's a big noise in the province," O. Fish agreed. "He wouldn't make a
mistake--"
"He might if the only other suspect was his nephew," Peach Nutt said. "His
nephew Khorvaz was in charge of the office where this scribe worked. He'd be the one
who actually handled the money there."
"All the more reason to stay out of it," Oran Ji said. "We don't want to get on
the wrong side of Zakarin for a mere scribe!"
"It's a matter of principle," Peach Nutt said. Her teammates groaned in unison.
Peach Nutt on the subject of principle was not someone they wanted to argue with.
"Besides, Zakarin is working his way closer to the Kaliv--"
Oran Ji looked up. "How do you know?"
"I have an aunt who works in the palace," Justa Fox said. O. Fish and Oran Ji
jumped a little, having forgotten, or not realized, that she was present. "My aunt
says Zakarin is spending more and more time with the Kaliv and his advisors, and
lately, more with the Kaliv and less with the advisors."
"And do we want someone who would lie and sacrifice others for thieving nephew
to have the ear of the Kaliv?" Peach Nutt said. "What if he decides one of us, or
someone we know personally, is inconvenient--or simply a suitable scapegoat? A
dishonest man in power...."
Oran Ji groaned. "You've already decided we're going to do this. Whatever it
is you have in mind. Haven't you?"
"Yes. The easiest way to clear the scribe is to find out who DID take the money
and prove it beyond all doubt."
"I'm rotten with numbers," Oran Ji said.
"We won't need to audit the books of that office," Peach Nutt said. She smiled
a little. "Khorvaz has been losing money at the Fountain of Three Moons. Worst
gambler I ever saw! And the only money he's got is what he earns working for his
uncle. He's way over his head, and way into debt. We just need to make him see that
talking to us is the least dangerous course open to him."

Duel2Dude! This is an honor, even if it came to me backhanded, as it were,
because so many teams and warriors have, once again, gone inactive. Timing for the
tourney, I suppose, but it still is a sad thing to see.

Like the magnificent Sun, rising upon the Dawn and exiling the Night for a Day,
I, Novgorodny Vir, return once again! Nothing works for a team like victory (How's
that for a perceptive observation?) as ABSTRACT DEMONS can attest... Practice pays
for FRIDAY, who pummelled EMBEZZLING SCRIBE, to pocket 21 points. A certain someone
should cut down on the drinking and practice more, after losing 12 points to CAT MAN
DO. (Discrete enough, O. PUN PLEEZJ?) Those who hoped for a new Duelmaster were
disappointed by CAT MAN DON'T, of ARENA FELINES, who despite a 9-3-1 couldn't
overcome WILLAF's Number 1. Word has it one team in WILLAF is using psychics to
predict wins. They lead a charmed life!
A Zenmaster once told me, 'Does not the spinning wheel turn? And do not the
little birds cry out?' Any ideas? Is it charming personality? Conversational
abilities? Good oral hygiene? Whatever it is, O. PUN PLEEZJ is the most challenged
warrior.
Is there life after death? Pragmatics (and warriors) know there is death after
life! Those who owe BENMAR of THUNDER CLAP money and had written him off, take note:
he'S BACK FROM THE DARK ARENA!!! AND he'S MAD!!! Justice was served as ORAN JI
fought CAT MAN DON'T in bloodfeud. Well done, PUNNY AMINALS! Oh hard! that to
strike a flame, the match itself must needs be wasting!
Do not think spyreporting in WILLAF is the highlight of my life. As the seasons
change, and the creatures of the wild change also, so do I feel a yearning to leave
