DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
Notes from the arena champ.
Out of the mists I appear to take the throne of Aljafir--how do you all like my
rhyme? 'Tis I, Dark Magician, your newest throne sitter of our fine (yet sparsely
numbered warrior-wise) city. I kept beating on that Troll until I almost fell down
myself, but luckily my endurance training has paid off. We came back in order to get
ready for the upcoming tournament, so taking the throne is just an added bonus.
Hopefully, the coming turns will allow me to hone my skills and shake off the dust on
me so that I may bring glory home!
We magicians are a strange lot--many would wonder while I am in the duel game at all
if I have power in the magical arts. Truth is, I flunked out of the arcanum academy,
and could not stomach being a merchant, so instead signed on with Destitute Noble to
try my hand in the arena. I'd say I've done a pretty fair job so far, my arena
record is great, and my tournament performance has been very reasonable, including 7-
3 in both of the last two appearances. I'm hoping this next tournament will be the
break-out one, and I can bring home a TV or better. Perhaps once my dueling days are
over, I may try and return to the magic game, but in the meanwhile, I'll focus on
keeping my hatchet sharp.
Good luck to all this turn--I shall be challenging that troll again since he is the
only warrior in range of me.

I can't believe the violence in ALJAFIR! I still haven't told Mom I'm writing
Spyreports. She'd have a cow! Well, here we go... MVP award for STRAIGHT LINE?
MIDDLE WAY's proud of him after beating EMBEZZLING SCRIBE and getting 18 points.
Talk about yer big time losers! ALEXANDER THE GREAT got smashed by VURZHAL UR, and
lost 7 points! The Duelmaster isn't going to stop just cause he's Number One! PIP
THE TROLL knows this. He was challenged by the Duelmaster. Don't you think the
Duelmaster is being unfair? I think DARK MAGICIAN should let PIP THE TROLL be
Duelmaster for a while, without fighting about it. I hear the top team insists all
their warriors get nine hours sleep. They want photogenic fighters for PR photos.
So just why would someone becomes a warrior anyway? It can't be for these
really neat Spyreports can it? HEROESANDFOUNDONES was ALJAFIR's most avoided team.
Is there some award for that? I don't know what THE OLD TESTAMENT's been doing.
They certainly haven't been accepting many fights from HEROESANDFOUNDONES, that's fer
sher. Like, is PIP THE TROLL popular, or what? He was challenged the most in all of
ALJAFIR! He's got a 21-9-0, is that good? For sure, I was holding my breath when I
found out VAMPIRE LORD challenged PYRO. After all, haven't LET'S DUEL! and PROJECT
MAYHEM XXX had a long standing duel in ALJAFIR? It wasn't a spectacular fight, or
anything, but PYRO wants me to write about it since he lost to VAMPIRE LORD.

What does a fighter fight for? I mean, the crowds don't give a hoot if someone
gets killed. Not after four more fights. What if they had a fight and nobody showed
up? I'd be out of a job, that's what!!!
I really didn't, you know, study when I was a kid. Who would've guessed I'd be
a famous Spyreporter? I'm getting tired of writing this stuff, so I'm calling it
