TEAM SPOTLIGHT
Lej Korranjal, a City Guardsman and sometime arena standin, stamped his feet on
the cobbles and tucked his hands inside his cloak. If Captain Morvanj came along,
he'd raise his hackles over that. Morvanj always said a guardsman should be ready to
grab his sword on the instant. Lej didn't disagree in principle, but felt that
frozen fingers would not grip a sword with confidence. The two of them had argued
the question more than once this past winter.
He was tempted to add, "Why would he need to grab a sword here and now?" The
waterfront, his regular beat, was deserted. Everyone who could stay inside was doing
so, preferably inside a tavern with plenty of wine, women, and song. But sooner or
later, those people would start home for the night, and some of them would be drunk
and quarrelsome.... It was on nights like this that Lej wondered why he'd ever
become a guard in the first place. But it was all the work he knew.
He reached the western end of Water Street and turned to move inland. On that
end of the harbor it was mostly warehouses, and a forest of poles that in better
weather held fishnets drying in the breeze off the bay. Clouds hid the moon more
often than not, but there was still enough light to see by now that he was used to
it. He shivered and tried to watch the poles out of the corner of his eye. Easier
to see faint movements that way...if there was movement. He thought he'd caught a
glimpse of something. Hard to be sure. He stood still and waited, growing colder by
the minute.
Finally a shadow moved, flowed through the poles, and stilled again. A gravelly
voice said, "Good to see you out and about, Lej."
The Guard cursed. It was Shagrath, the dwarven Assassin. They were long-time
acquaintances, sometimes friends, sometimes not. "It's my job," Lej said. "Why are
YOU here?"
A snort, maybe a muffled laugh. "Looking for the trolls," the dwarf said.
"Trolls live in mountains. No mountains around here!"
"I had noticed that," the dwarf admitted. "But trolls...they aren't so picky.
There are trolls that live along the shore of the bay. A month ago, you could see
'em everywhere if you knew how to look. Ice fishing on the bay. For the past few
days, since the eclipse, not a troll anywhere. It worries me."
"You like trolls?" That was hard to imagine.
"Gods, no! And I don't trust 'em, either. Especially when I'm not seeing them
around."

Notes from the arena champ.
Alas, the time has come for my departure from the great Aljafir arena. I'm off to
Free Blades to join my comrade Claudius from the mighty I, Claudius stable of
Dullens. Thanks again to Violet Orc on granting me another victory. Unfortunately,
my Dark Arena opponent will likely be much more difficult to defeat. However, this
turn Quintus is giving it a go and will be looking for you in the Challenge segment
of the games. That's if the Red Baron doesn't try to grab the title or get his
greedy little challenge through. I'm sure we will find you. You can smell orc
underarms from miles away.
Stelra, you're an old girl and perhaps not as nimble and svelte as you were in your
younger days. Even Quintus out jumped you. Imagine that, losing to a basher?
Personally, I tend to favor younger women. Much more exciting. Will we see your old
bones in Free Blades someday?
Quintus is 0-1 against Violet Orc, but he has a new strategy in mind and is going to
reapproach this one and hopefully come out victorious. The stinky, oozing Orc
defeated Quintus after their random match-up on Turn 581. Let's see what happens
this time.
We are pleased at our 5-0 showing last turn and hope it is the first of many to come.
However, we need more fighters on the sands and hopefully some new recruits will be
arriving in the near future.

must be getting lonely. They were the most avoided team. Do you guys know something
that I don't? I don't know what FIELDS OF ELYSIUM's been doing. They certainly
haven't been accepting many fights from DEATH INCARNATE, that's fer sher. Can MIDDLE
WAY's YAREK ZURN be more popular than me? He was challenged the most, but is that
really the same? Some fights are really unfair. How do you think YAREK ZURN feels
about being challenged by AURELIUS, 18 points above him? AURELIUS beat YAREK ZURN.
No surprise about that. Really I'm not surprised AURELIUS would do such a scummy
thing, either.
Man, all these warriors dying and killing each other! Don't you guys ever give
it a break? Pinch me, I must be dreaming!!! ARTEMIDORUS returns from the Dark
Arena, maybe a "little upset" at his FIELDS OF ELYSIUM teammates... What if they had

to give the style a little tough love with the following concept: An ALL-BASHER
arena. The rules are simple--enter the arena as a rookie basher. That's it. RSI
said I need to get 20 managers on board and I'm about half way there. If you are
