"Man, this place stinks!" a man exclaimed. "Shh!" the Harkeny woman warned with worried eyes casting to the rider. "Don't upset him even more," she begged. She was very tall but exotically beautiful, with a perfect figure, emotional eyes, and lovely lips. The Rirorni made no secret as he explored her body with his eyes. "Something you like?" a crisp and unenthused voice asked, snapping the man from his thoughts. Elly, the orcish woman, watched with an amused sneer that attempted to rival her master's mood. Her fingers curled and uncurled in anticipation as she waited for just the right moment to jump in. "Uh..." the Rirorni stammered. "Of course I do, you neutered sea slug," he snapped, after recovering from his surprise. "How dare yo-" Elly's words stopped as a stone careened off the back of her head, sending her reeling. "Nice shot," a well-dressed man commented lazily. He was obviously Fratsfan, showing an innate disinterest for anything that didn't affect him directly. The Harkeny girl began to giggle and tried hiding it behing her hand as best as she could. "We'll have to start calling you Stone Tosser, Rin," the girl teased. "That's the third time tonight." An elegantly dressed half-elf bowed with a stoic face and the stars dancing in his eyes. "I am glad to be of service, m'lady." The horse side-stepped impatiently with the clomp of a hoof calling everyone's attention to the crossbow the rider was holding. "I trust you are done, my dear bastard elf?" The orc finally shook off her daze, rubbing the back of her head, and glared at Rin Silvermoon. "We are nearing your new home, smelly," the man glanced at the Rirorni. "Or not." "Thank the gods!" the Fratsfan named T'Lani exclaimed. "I'm so sick of walking. It will be nice to lounge and bathe." "At least one of us is eager," the Harkeny girl muttered before turning to follow the road as the horse continued its slow pace. "Cheer up, Tamyra," the Rirorni exclaimed. "You've got me with ya... And T'Lani and Rin." "Oh goody. A plainsman that thinks a treecat loincloth is dressing up, a too noble for his own good half elf that took slavery over his family, and a lazy self- absorbed dandy." "What about me?" the Fratsfan asked, adjusting his silken shirt. Tamyra snorted disgustedly and picked up her pace. "The latter," she muttered. The five slaves plodded onward, each with his own reason of why he had fallen to the bottom of the social barrel. Each with a reason why they would cooperate with the rider. Promises, dreams, debts, honor, pride, and laziness. The rider wasn't cruel. Good business, maybe? The crew finally saw the towering city bloom from out of the darkness, its shining domes visible even by the moon's light. "Kjarran, my lord, once again you bless me as my eyes feast upon your holy lands," the rider whispered with a touch of awe. He turned in his saddle and gestured widely with one arm. "Welcome to Aljafir." Of the five travelers, only one seemed pleased. The orc woman rubbed her hands together in great anticipation. "This is where you wish for us to fight for you, lord Garou?" she asked with bright, adoring eyes. "This is where you will all learn. If the grey -itch comes to seek you, we will end her reign of terror. The Alkurias will be revenged." The group stared at him in disbelief and horror. "And the whelp Rylian will follow the True Path, or be removed from it. Long live the prince, may he live forever," the man finished with a brutal sneer. * }%|[-----+O+-----]|%{ * }%|[-----+O+-----]|%{ * }%|[-----+O+-----]|%{ * ---===FREE BLADES REGIONAL NEWS===--- Duelmasters ----------- DM 9 ZUKAL (turn 600): MORAVIA MAUVE of BLUE MOON (Jorja, mgr.) Hail, Warriors of Aljafir! Your Duelmaster bids you greetings! Looks like the end of the road for me. Not a long termer. My numbers: 11(+1)-13-9-11-21-7-13 Adex Parry and Ex Defense. Favorites: Very Low/Low and I tend to focus on Parry skills when I train. I've gone from an Apprentices Tournament Victor @ 8-3-0 to 3-3 in the Adepts tourney and finally, 0-3 in the most recent Champions tourney. Caesar has a low tolerance for failure, so he pulled the plug on me.... I tried to bloodfeud Vercingetorix last turn, but to no avail as the coward did not show. I will try again this turn, otherwise poor old Commodus will go unavenged. Or perhaps we will unleash Aurelius.... Aljafir has been a tough place for us Romans. First the loss of dear Saphronicus and most recently, my little buddy Commodus. Sometimes, things just don't go your way.... But we will try to bring them back to life on All Hallow's Eve.... Someday they will return to the sands of the Aljafir arena.... That is a wrap for this time around. Caesar has a 2:05 tee time. He has been exceptionally spoiled this year by the golf gods. 4-5 days per week of sun and fun is quite rewarding. Since Caesar's flying rickshaw was grounded by soaring fuel costs and a coolie labor issue in Arvat, he has been forced to remain local. I remain, Novellus, Total Parry Pud and Duelmaster of Aljafir! Hail Caesar! Hail Rome! Long live the Downchallenge! Farewell my fair city! Long live golf, young blondes and vodka! Novellus Duelmaster and Lord Protector Fields of Elysium (563) SPY REPORT I can't believe the violence in ALJAFIR! I still haven't told Mom I'm writing Spyreports. She'd have a cow! Well, here we go... Talk about hot teams! FORSAKEN goes out, the very first time, and goes 4-1-0! Like, what do you guys eat for breakfast? MVP award for CAHALITH? FORSAKEN's proud of him after beating EMBEZZLING SCRIBE and getting 16 points. Talk about yer major upsets! YAREK ZURN's match with DANGEROUS CRIMINAL cost him a loss of 1 points! Don't you think the Duelmaster is being unfair? I think NOVELLUS should let KHALHUMS DWARF be Duelmaster for a while, without fighting about it. Is the Duelmaster really being a real snob to his teammates? Don't ask me! AAARRGH!!! I HATE SPYREPORTING!!! Sorry. I just had to say it. The warriors of MIDDLE WAY must be getting lonely. They were the most avoided team. Do you guys know something that I don't? I don't know what FIELDS OF ELYSIUM's been doing. They certainly haven't been accepting many fights from MIDDLE WAY, that's fer sher. What does a fighter fight for? I mean, the crowds don't give a hoot if someone gets killed. Not after four more fights. Hey you guys, don't you think your families would like to hear from you? Write! (Or have someone write for you.) I really didn't, you know, study when I was a kid. Who would've guessed I'd be a famous Spyreporter? I gotta leave. ALJAFIR is like such a dump, and you guys smell too much! Remember you guys, ease up sometimes! Chill out! Yes, I know, you already had the title. You just proved that it wasn't a fluke, right? Good work, and a not particularly fond farewell (not your personality, it's the beard). -- Tamarin Mellirn P.S. Well, okay, I suppose your personality may have something to do with the beard, but I take it to be mainly that you're a dwarf. I knew a dwarf once who shaved, and I got alone fine with him. Aurelius -- I wish I could believe that your victory heralded sunshine. We could use some sunshine. It's been raining since yesterday, and the temperature is headed for the cellar. -- Grishort Hurm Germanicus -- Ah, life was so simple then, was it not? Now, the most unlikely people are supposed to be friends. I could really pass on all this "let's be friends with everyone" stuff. I figure the pushers of that nonsense are just setting us up for some kind of really nasty surprise. Oh, well. We have to make the most of the times we live in. -- Yarek Zurn Germanicus -- Darned if any of us know what that was about. Zurn gets odd sometimes. He says that stuff he smokes gives him "trans-temporal awareness." Right, whatever that is. Good fight. -- Yarek Zurn's teammates The "Osksi Noble"? Why can't this town import a true Osksi noble, or at least a plausible facsimile? This guy is totally unbelievable in that role. -- Zalman Arvo P.S. Besides being worthless as a fighter, but then, all Osksi Nobles are. Probably comes of living like the bloated plutocrats they are on their southern estates. Parasites. I find myself totally without sympathy for any Embezzling Scribe. I figure they're taking money out of the hands and by extension food out of the mouths of the poor and uneducated, because the wealthy have scribes they can rely on, and the educated can do their own accounts. That's despicable. Ah, "that" being the "taking money and/or food out of the mouths of the poor etc." -- Ursila Vine Our congratulations to Novellus. -- Jorja and the Middle Way 9 August 2008 All -- We are currently looking for capable manager that will give the Desolate Empire Alliance a full roster for the Turf War. The following warriors have traveled to AD after fighting this turn: NOVELLUS (17-6911) FIELDS OF ELYSIUM (563) Name-Change-O-Rama The summer tourney brought a lot of people to the Isle who didn't appear there normally. This included Commission employees. Half a dozen arenamasters regarded each other warily in the mirror behind the bar at the Pig in a Haystack. The Pig was obscure and mediocre, drawing few gladiators, which is what they had all been looking for. They saw gladiators every day. Most arenamaster were convinced that this was some kind of punishment. You could always pick out the arenamasters in a crowd. There were superficial differences: One of these had clearly Adantri features, one wore an eye-patch, two were female. But there were, in significant ways, alike. The same size, the same hair-trigger alertness, the same deadliness. The one-eyed man broke the ice, raising his beer mug in salute. "I'm Zrof One- Eye from Zukal. Sugar of Arvat--" One of the women bowed slightly. "I know Sugar. The rest of you...?" The Adantri matched his salute. "Dernal of Dayla Kiv." "Daiyla Kiv? Ah...." "No, without the 'I' in it. These damned bureaucrats can't spell, and they thought adding an unnecessary vowel was exotic." Disgust dripped from his voice. "Tell me about it!" another man growled in agreement. "Khagal of Niatoli, and what they do to the spelling of THAT simple word--!" "I thought Daiyla, I mean Dayla Kiv had a different name right now," Arenamistress Sugar said. "The arena, at least, because of a contest?" "Chavez Ravine." Dernal's tone was the one that substituted in polite company for spitting on the floor. Zrof blinked, taken aback by the bitterness. He wouldn't have minded a contest in Zukal, and damn what they called the place. "It's only temporary, though." "Temporary, shmiperary," another man muttered. He seemed well into his drinking, although, like all arenamasters, he carried his liquor well. "They do it all the time in Aradi. No reshpect. Go around changing thish, changing that. I wish I could change shome thingsh." He signalled the bartender for a refill. The second woman put her hand over his mug. "You've had enough, Harkon. Try the coffee, instead." "You should be mad, too, Ripplesh," Harkon said. "They're going to do shtuff like that in Jahnsh, aren't they?" Ripples Dorrigan shrugged. All the men paused, some with glasses half raised, to watch. "It's the way things are," she said. "Not much we can do about it." "You know," Khagal of Niatoli said, "maybe we could make a few changes. Fix the spelling of Arena 33, for one, change a few standby titles--" "The Commission hates changes." Dernal of Dayla Kiv topped up his glass and drained it gloomily. "Yes, but if we disguise it," Sugar of Arvat said, excited, "make it... maybe a general Name-Change-O-Rama! Then we could slip OUR changes through and no one would notice or mind." *-------*-------*-------*-------*-------*-------* By popular demand, we are holding a Name-Change-o-Rama during the month of September, 2008. If you wish to change the name of your warriors or teams, please contact RSI Customer Service. The charge for a name change is $1.
