                                 DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
                             Notes from the arena champ.

We've done this before, Bradley. You couldn't defeat me then, and you can't
defeat me now. Well, unless the stars are just right and I don't get any sleep the
night before. You know how it goes. There's always chance.

                                    Zebd Arvin

                                      SPY REPORT

You elder fighters surely remember me. The younger ones may call me Olaf
Modeen. I return to ALJAFIR once again! A team with purpose! A team with the skill
to back up their boasts! Getting a 5-0-0 their first time out is ZOMBIE SQUAD 2.
What's with REAPER? It actually beat ALJAFIR's EMBEZZLING SCRIBE, and walked away
with 21 more points from the fight. Laughs were big at MIDDLE WAY while they watched
SENLUM NOSH clobber HANNABLE. He lost 8 points and got bruised from objects thrown
from the stands. Try as he might, BRADLEY wasn't good enough at persuading ZEBD
ARVIN to step down from the Duelmaster's throne... Wouldn't it be nice to have live
subjects to practice on? I hear some team is looking into the uses of convicted
prisoners.
Speaking of cowardly avoiders and unfair challenges...
A fighter's lot is filled with strife, revenge, and killing. Some fighters
don't accept this. The best do. Is it my imagination, or are fighters getting
younger every day? To die so young, so gloriously!
Who knows what the future holds for a warrior. More fights, there's no doubt.
Are you as tired of reading this as I am of writing it? Actually, I guess I'm
writing it before you read it. Oh, well. Remember--a good fighter needs both good
skills and good luck. Until next time,-- Olaf Modeen

encounter, except I'm too bored to write them all out. -- Alida Bern

Brunhilda -- Darned hefty wench. Have you considered getting a day job in a dairy?
-- Bellona Chist

Gurzam Halli, Importer, Moneylender, and Userous Merchant -- Good. I'm glad you
"really hurt." Next time be a little more generous with the skills, and I'll be a
little gentler with the blows. -- Senlum Nosh

Durok, Orc du Jour -- And so you should reconsider the gladiator stuff. How did you
get sucked into it, anyway? -- Kaireen Lamar

                        WINTER FACE-TO-FACE IN SUNNY ARIZONA!

Our next winter FTF will be held in Tempe, Arizona, January 14-16, 2011. It will be
held at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Tempe, Arizona (480-894-7444), the same hotel as
last year by popular request. Room rates are $129.00 per night, 1-2 occupancy, which
includes full cooked breakfast, complimentary manager's reception (yes, really!), free
airport shuttle, free parking and free high speed internet. There's a fitness center,
jacuzzi, and pool. The rooms are blocked--please make your reservation by December 22
before the block is released! (This is prime season for Phoenix, and people have been
unable to book rooms because they waited too long.) Look for the tournament info
sheet and minioverviews some time in December. We hope you're all looking forward to
it and that we will see you there!
