The table set, Assur sat down to relax and wait. He reflected on the events of
the previous two years. Way back on turn 404, Big Wave Dave actually wrote a
personal ad welcoming about 10 teams and also welcoming any teams that were new since
he'd last written an ad (some decades before). Assur, always pleased with any
personal ad, but especially with these since it looked as if the I.T. alliance was
becoming active again in the personals, commented on such and asked if the
spotlights were forthcoming.
Big Wave Dave responded the very next turn:
Assur -- Hmm, this writing personals is nice and all but then you said
spotlight writing and now you're just talkin' crazy! Speaking of feuds, I
haven't had much of any in my day but who feuds with a bunch of fish? A
crazy person that's who...hmm, crazy like a fox! -- BWD, what the hell did
all that mean?
With the gauntlet thrown, Assur had to respond. No one can just call him crazy. The
feud began, but unfortunately, the personal ads by Big Wave Dave stopped.
In the meantime, Assur became a basher-a-holic and Big Wave Dave begins his
quest to lose the most Parry Rippers ever without graduating one. (I feel your pain,
my friend, especially with Coral Beauty and Garibaldi.) As for the feud, it
continued on, but not with as much glory as it might have. Oh, the brutal
downchallenging was there and BWD and Assur fought each other as much as possible
during the Battle Royal, but even with the prize, the feud could not completely
capture the attention of either participant. Talcama's weekly Old Maid club was of
more interest to both of them (As per the feud agreement, this essential part of life
would not come into contention during the course of the feud).
Perhaps the most amazing turn of events happened only days prior. The LBA,
recognizing Assurnasirbanipal's resounding victory over an IT Alliance member,
invited Assur to become a part of their team. Yes--Assur in the LBA--what nonsense.
Of course, the rites of ceremony and blood letting in order to seal the agreement
and pages of legal documents saying how Assur would always follow the LBA's charter
had been taken care of quickly and efficiently.
Yet that has nothing to do with the party today. Today's party was all about
one thing. Big Wave Dave, as the loser, would watch Assurnasirbanipal, the winner,
eat Jello. What perfect punishment for any loser in the I.T. alliance. (Of course,
had BWD won, it would have been the perfect reward, except that this spot would never
have been written--it took Assur an extra turn as it was...)
The moment arrives, and Big Wave Dave appears, already disheartened by the
prospect of lots of Jello with none for him. When he saw the table, he became
downright depressed. For low and behold the table was full of bowls, each with a
different, yet exquisite, flavor of Jello. A glimmer of hope appeared when he
noticed two place settings. Perhaps Assur wasn't as heartless as he thought.
"Now remember, you actually have to watch me eat. You can't just sit there
covering your eyes! But do not worry, your humiliation has only begun. For Suave is
also here to witness this and join me in this fine feast!"
Hope shattered and the event began, an afternoon of Jello, but none for Big Wave
Dave. The conversation never dulled, for these managers didn't have many occasions
to remember old times and spend time celebrating. Big Wave Dave even almost forgot
about the Jello in front of him. But let's be realistic, this IS Jello.
Suddenly, a cry was heard from either side and from nowhere appears Jolly, The
Muffin Man, and HORRIBLE!?!. Already armed, they immediately fall upon their
comrade. Big Wave Dave hadn't seen his alliance-mates in such a fury since the glory
days of the House of Jello. (Had Horrible even been seen at all since then?)
Luckily, Assur had prepared for just such an event. He armed himself with a bowl in
one hand, nodded to Suave, and each reached under the table for their hidden Super
Soakers the fray was joined.
Big Wave Dave, already covered with Jello, took two handfuls of Jello and
started retaliating. Eating it might be off limits, but not throwing was not part of
any deal he'd ever make!
The Jello and water flew in a battle perhaps without equal. Rumor has it that
The Upright Man and Kahuna arrived in the nick of time with more weaponry and
ammunition so that the battle raged even longer. When the war finally ended, the
survivors vowed silence, that none might know the truth of the matter. The glory and
shame of the day would remain a secret, or so they thought. None saw the grinning,
hooded figure slip into the shadows while the rest of the evidence of the day was
hidden. They should have known though--would ever such a prominent figurehead miss
such an event?

TALCAMA
THE ROAD LEADS THROUGH
Talcama:
It was months ago when their manager had sent them to Jade Mountain to set up a
team for future activity. But as fast as Lyssa could fly, they had to make long
trips on foot back to the Andorian Kingdom. But the only reason the two ladies had
come this way was because the Palani had wanted to. She wanted to see the famed city
and its beautiful valley.
So it was that Chi'en Huan Li stopped just outside the narrow gorge leading to
the Delarquan city of Talcama. "It is very beautiful. Did you know that Talcama is
famous for its archers. They were instrumental in lifting the siege of Jhans during
the Rirorni war."
"It IS pretty," Lyssa conceded, "and despite the reputation of its peacefulness
and kindly rulers, they did lose the palace to a bunch of managers in a card game.
And we all know how bad the arena is here."
"Not everybody in Alastari shares our home's sense of honor and code of conduct.
Not even all of Andoria," Chi'en countered, as they walked through the city and
closed on the arena.
"Yeah, but look at this," Lyssa said, pointing at a listing of the teams and
records. "You can tell they don't even TRY to avoid killing. Such disrespect for
life and talent. Talent that could defend Alastari some day."
"It is a waste. I would put them on the field of battle before wasting them on
the sands. My standards are low compared to Andorians, but even I am more
honorablethan these---"
Lyssa finished the sentence for her, "Wretches?"
Chi'en neither agreed nor disagreed with the word choice, "Theu have no qualms
about challenging a lesser ranked warrior."
"Perhaps some warriors, and even managers would like another choice, given it..."
Lyssa noted, having a brain storm. "While we're here, let's post something in the
ads. This will probably infuriate some people back home, and especially here. But
hey, if they can come to our arena and not care or show respect for our ways,
demanding they have that right, we can do it too."
The Palani tied up her silky black hair in a top-knot as if expecting a fight to
ensue any moment, but seemed to have no response.
Lyssa produced some parchment and began writing....

DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
Notes from the arena champ.
I greatly enjoyed the tournament and will have much to report to the Continuum,
should I decide to return there. In the meantime, I will explore the possibilities
of entertainment afforded to the Duelmaster of this place that is called a city. I
call it an embarrassment, unfit for one such as I.
And I hear everyone is lining up to fight me. Well, pick a number and maybe you'll
hear from my agent (but don't hold your breath). I think I'll watch Peon Necromancer
flail in front of me. Maybe he'll even beg me to let him look good before his
manager. But I have no intention of showing him any mercy. After all, Ms. Crusher
has always given me so much time and attention (not that she ever had any choice in
the matter).

SPY REPORT
QUEUE bloodfeuded from the throne and successfully avenged THE CRUSHER's death and
kept the throne for another turn. PEON NECROMANCER fought for 5 minutes, but in the
end, could not overcome the top Total Parry in the arena. QUEUE is still a young
warrior and could hold the throne for several more turns, if he can keep on winning.
Can PEON or some other warrior take the throne away?
Hottest Warriors on the sands:
PEON NECROMANCER (8-2) -- Lost to QUEUE
MIMIC BLENNY (8-2) -- Victory over HOFFA
NEON DISCODANCER (8-2) -- Lost to DIRE WOLF
ACK VERT (7-3) -- Beat Convicted Assassin
Best Team Performances this turn:
BURN N' PILLAGE - (5-0)
BIG MEAN FISH - (4-1)
GHAELIE SIDHE - (4-1)
Up challengers: 4-1 Warriors increasing recognition class: 13
Down challengers: 2-4 Warriors decreasing recognition class: 4
Even challengers: 0-1
Largest Recognition Gains: KETUMAIE (+20) - beat CHASEK
NEOSPHINCTER (+18) - beat MORROCCO MOLE
SHEN JING (+18) - beat MUSCLE BUM
PICKLE JUICE (+17) - beat ACE
Largest Recognition Losses: SON OF CAIN (-15) - loss to BOOTER
Most Challenged Warrior: BAMBI of BEAST MASTERS
BROKE STROKER was beaten by BAMBI in a 1 minute beginner's Challenge fray
Most Avoided Team: CENTER FOR OLDS by CONSORTIUM CREW
The commission gave me some very sad news over the last turn. Apparently, I made
mistakes in my tourney picks and misclassed a few warriors. Alas, I can not take
them back, but Talcama did pretty miserably in the tourney so it probably wouldn't
have mattered. Talcama's only TV was a sandbagger. We won't even talk about TC's
this time around.
There were no deaths this turn, probably because the arena population is so full of
Total Parries. BO PEEP and MIMIC BLENNY are off to the Isle next turn so
congratulations to them and their managers.
The least popular warrior was not one of the two warriors who fought for 23 minutes.
3 WINS THEN DA and ADAR took the least popular spots in 13 minutes of boredom while
BOOTER and SON OF CAIN had a much more exciting 23 minute fight. Go figure.
Meanwhile, the fans preferred PICKLE JUICE's 2 minute win over JANDOLIN's 7 minute or
FORGED IN L.A.'s 5 minutes of fighting.
And BURN N' PILLAGE's 5-0 was enough to claim most of the team awards, but BIG MEAN
FISH held the 3 turn record award. Congrats to the victors. Work harder, you losers.
Until next time. -- Sherik

Assur -- Thanks for the welcome. The Consortium Crew welcomed me back with a butt
whipping of one of my pikers! Venoran: 9-9-8-21-17-11-9, a strange design to say the
least but I couldn't figure out what I wanted to do with it. Now I don't have to
worry about it! -- Tripwire
Talcama -- Are you a gladiator sick of having that spear aimed intentionally at your
head? Sick of seeing the bloodshot berserker look of uncaring foes? Or perhaps
you're a manager tired of losing their best warriors to other uncaring managers? Are
you sick of downchallenges, even small ones that feel bigger than the recognition
belies? Then perhaps you are in the wrong arena, comrades! Come to the Andorian
Kingdom, and find an arena that possesses a sanctity for life and tries NOT to kill
you or your team members! One that doesn't down challenge, even if infrequently.
One where you can be part of a community to stand up for your values. Don't wait
another minute, move out of those soulless, heartless, uncaring 'Larq arenas and feel
the light of day, a friendly smile, and a drink that's not poisoned! Come to Andoria
where slavery is banned and freedom reigns! -- This message brought to you by a
fellow Andorian at heart
Jolly -- Okay, now it is your turn to bloodfeud. We have a fine match of death
tennis shaping up here. -- Doc Steele
Assur -- I knew you would enjoy ending that streak more than anyone. I'm glad I
could provide such good entertainment for you. -- Doc Steele
Doc Steele -- Yeah I know, I'm always below your radar. Guess I'm just not good
enough for you, eh? But you know what they say, being second makes you try harder,
so I guess I'll just have to try harder to be on the radar screen. -- Guardian
Jandolin -- All I can say is bring it on. If you can kill a bunch of puds with no
tourney experience, I can get replacements and sandbag them in the ToD. -- Guardian
Assur -- I know the feeling. -- Guardian
Doc Steele -- You haven't underestimated Paul. He just has Scourge's number. --
Assur
Jandolin -- I've got good news and bad news. The good news is that should Bo Peep
survive, she'll be off to the Isle next turn. So you'll only have to face her two
more times. The bad news is that I'll know her faves for that third turn! As you
suspected, I have every intention of avenging my loss of Samson. -- Assur
P.S. My idea of a thank you for that particular loss is to see you in the same place
as Samson.
Suave -- Thanks for talking me into running Bo Peep in the Champs tourney. While
going 4-3 was a lot of fun, getting the skills she needed to graduate are far more
rewarding. Now if I can just keep her alive one more turn!!! -- Assur
Peon Necromancer -- The Crusher, on the other hand, truly is a favor done to me.
Fave learn Riposte bashers really are worthless and The Crusher was no exception
(12(1)-5-12-21-15-9-11) -- Assur
Neosphincter -- Through my avoids and all! -- Paul
Scourge -- Thanks for the skills! -- Bart
Vain Varicose -- You should be embarrassed! -- Queue
Ketumaie -- Well fought! -- Forged in L.A.
Mrs. Rogers -- Whoops. -- Assur
Assur -- Was that the best you could do? How pathetic. -- Jondolin
Suave -- So it's that kind of party, eh? I welcome it. Down challenge will be met
in kind and so it begins. -- Mordraith

STOP THINKING TOGS!!!!! It's here. Well, almost here anyway. We're looking at
a start date of the first turn in Aradi (DM 60) following the Fall Mail-In. This
should give everyone sufficient time to study the new ultra-improved T#%S IV rules
and prep accordingly. So without further ado, here is your handy-dandy guide to
winning your very own Golden Scrod (and some other very cool prizes to be announced
officially before the start of the tourney that must not be named):
1. Each T#%S team consists of two managers. After the tourney starts, there will be
no switching partners whatsoever, so choose your partners wisely. T#%S IV will
last for 13 turns, so pick a partner you can stand for 6 months or so. The only
team I know of so far is last TOGS winners: Ganolus Oakleaf/Hombre of Blood
Related/Thieves Guild. Hey, this is fun!
2. The T#%S entry fee is 2 team setups per manager. This means 4 setups per T#%S
team. This entry fee is required before the start of the tourney with no
exceptions being made. This is to ensure that nobody gets screwed if a team or
manager decides to back out early. To pay the entry fee either:
a) send $10 cash/check/money order/ or whatever to me personally at:
Andy Salveson
6812 Romanzo Way
Elk Grove, CA 95758
b) get RSI to send me 2 team setup gift certificates. Sorry, no credit cards and
no old teams you have lying around will be accepted.
3. T#%S point system:
10 points for winning on your up-challenge against another T#%S warrior.
7 points for winning on your even challenge of another T#%S warrior.
7 points for winning on another T#%S warriors challenge.
7 points for winning a random matchup against another T#%S warrior.
4 points for winning on your down-challenge of another T#%S warrior.
4 points for winning a random matchup against a non-T#%S warrior. Do not fight
your team mate, you will not get any points. Also, you will not get any points
if you challenge or get challenged by a non-T#%S team, so use your avoids
wisely if you think someone is out to get you.
10 points for being the Duelmaster. This is in addition to all points listed
above and will begin turn 1, so prep accordingly.
5 points for every spotlight written by any team member, 1 per manager per turn.
The minimum length of a spotlight to receive points is 1/2 column in the
newsletter (that's 31 lines-each line 85 characters across) and I will be
completely firm on this. In addition to the length criteria, spotlights will
not be given points if they are in any way plagiarized or if they are not
Duelmasters or fantasy related. I will be the sole judge of this. If you're
unsure if I will judge something to be Duelmasters or fantasy related, then
e-mail me before you write the spotlight and ask me. I reserve the right to
take points away from a spotlight after they are given if I judge at a later
time that the spotlight has been plagiarized.
-5 points per manager per turn every time a manager does not at least write one
personal ad.
-5 points for being the team that avoided the most.
If you participated in TOGS III, you'll notice some slight changes in the points
structure. The main things are points for random match ups against non T#%S
warriors, bonus points for being the Duelmaster, new spotlight criteria, and no
points given for being the most avoided team.
4. I already mentioned this, but T#%S IV will start the first turn in arena 60 after
the Fall Mail-In runs and it will last for 13 turns. There will not be a
Survivor format this time around, meaning no eliminations. I will still be doing
the multipliers at the end, however. This means that all points accumulated by a
team on turns 10 and 11 will be multiplied by 1.5 and all points accumulated by
each team on turns 12 and 13 will be multiplied by 2.
5. Prizes are yet to be determined, but I'll tell you what I know. There will be
prizes given out each turn to whichever team scores the most combined points on a
given turn. Tie breakers will go to the team with the most wins on that turn and
then to the team with most overall points. I have asked RSI for the same prizes
as last TOGS which were transferring any warrior to arena 60 and renaming Aradi
for approximately 6 months, but we'll see what they come back with. I haven't
decided how to split the prizes up, partly because I don't know how many teams
will be entering yet, but I do know the prizes will be split among the top 3
teams at the end. I will announce the exact breakdown of everything when I know
more.
6. And just like TOGS III, Death Stud and I will be the sole arbiters of any dispute
that may arise. Whine all you like, but as Nuln told you last time, that's how
it is.
7. M & RR Clause (go ahead, read between the capitals): I reserve the right to
disallow entry to this tourney if you have a previous history of being a big fat
mouth about everything.
I think that pretty much covers it. I will be accepting team entries as of now
and then posting them in the newsletters as I receive entry fees. Please feel free
to e-mail me regarding any questions or comments at Ganolus@aol.com. So everyone don
your best pair of leg warmers, hop on your favorite farm animal, and ride to Aradi
for the 4th kinda-annual Tournament that must not be named for no apparent reason
whatsoever, or T#%S IV, for short. See ya'll there!

To All Managers -- I would like to take this time to announce that my alliance, The
Association, is no more. Due to the dead weight managers of the alliance and their
lack of participation, DarkSpirit and I have formed a new alliance: The Firm. We
have taken on two members so far and are looking for a few more. If you would like
to find out more about The Firm, you can diplo Dark Spirit, Unknowns XX in arena 15
or myself, Sungod, Sadists F2FII in arena 62.
