Rodeki:
There were just the four of them, or five if you counted Adabemis & Balmador as
two separate people, which Sue E. Syde didn't. Not much of an army to arrest a
governor. And just because "Princess Tirisha wants it done." What did the woman
expect them to DO? It was beginning to look like Adabemis & Balmador wasn't the only
crazy person around. She glanced at her companions and wondered if there was any
point in commenting on this. Not to the Dwarf with his two personalities, although
if one or the other didn't happen to like Tirisha.... No, not to him, or them. And
she had a good idea that Captain Shirivien already knew it and didn't care, at least,
not enough to run counter to Tirisha's commands. And her teammate Rob A. Ree...she
shook her head. Better just to keep quiet for now.
The streets of Rodeki were quiet, too. Very few people were out, and they were
keeping close to the sides of buildings and fading down alleys at first sight of the
group from Xochithlan. Expecting trouble, Sue guessed.
The governor's palace in Rodeki was not as impressive as Sue had expected.
Large, yes, but so...ordinary. It looked more like an office building than it did a
palace. It was built against the side of the mountain that closed in Rodeki on the
north, maybe even built back into the mountain, and it went up three stories with a
sort of tower climbing higher back along the slope. There were no majestic pillars,
no statues in niches (no niches), and only one balcony. And it was grubby. The
stone might have been light-colored originally, but years of the smelter smoke that
sometimes filled the valley had turned it blotched dark brown and sooty black.
Tirisha wasn't going to like this place at all; Sue E. Syde couldn't imagine her
living in it.
But that wasn't today's problem. Today's problem was taking it away from
Governor Milvares. Who wasn't likely to be taken by surprise....
One side of the big double door opened as the gladiators and Sirivien started up
the steps. She didn't recognize the man who came out--a Kannar, late middle age,
looked like a man used to wielding authority. It might be the governor himself.
When they were close enough to hear him without shouting, he said, "Why have you come
here?"
The gladiators instinctively looked toward Captain Shirivien. "On the order of
our lady, Princess Tirisha of Xochithlan," he said. "She has commanded us to arrest
Governor Milvares."
"On what grounds?" The man's voice was still calm, but there was steel in it.
Shirivien hesitated. "The Princess has not offered us explanation. It is not
our place to question, only to obey."
A voice from overhead said, "We could drop things on them from here, even though
we don't have proper stuff like boiling lead."
Sue glanced up. There was a short woman in a Dwarven helmet on the balcony.
A tall man in arena-issue mail came up behind her. "Not yet, Gate Witch." He
added something that the people on the steps couldn't hear, but the Dwarven woman
grinned and punched him on the arm.
The man in the doorway reclaimed their attention, saying, "Your princess would
be better served if the people around her asked for explanations and offered advice.
She would be wise to return to Xochithlan."
"Are you threatening Princess Tirisha?" Adabemis or Balmador demanded.
"No, I'm offering her sound advice. It would be a good move for her to leave
Rodeki. She has no place here."
"It sounds like a threat to ME." That was definitely Balmador, the more hostile
of the two personalities.
"If you think in terms of threats," the man said, "all things sound like
threats."
Balmador opened his mouth to make a retort, but She and Shirivien moved in on
him from either side, and Sue put a hand over his mouth.
"Your advice may be good," she said, "but we have our orders."
The man made a sort of half bow and stepped back, pulling the door closed behind
him.
From the balcony, Gate Witch said, "NOW can we drop things on them, John?"
"I thought you were looking forward to fighting them in the halls," the man
replied. "If you drop things on them now, they'll never make it into the halls.
Which might not be a bad thing, when one comes to think about it...."
"Spoilsport!" Both gladiators on the balcony withdrew, and pulled that door
shut behind them also.
Rob A. Ree, whose many flaws did not include major stupidity, looked at the
closed door of the palace, and at the windows on either side, which were fifteen feet
above the ground in front of them and barred, and said, "Anybody got a pocket
battering ram?"
"I thought we were supposed to be able to just walk in," Adabemis added. "Now
what?"

SPY REPORT
Turn 480 could be marked not so much by its fights but its lack of fights. Only
16 managers sent in warriors to fight. Two of those 16 saw their stables win 4
fights each. SUPERIOR FORCES 6N continues their recent dominance by going 4-0. BIG
MEAN FISH was the other stable, going 4-1-2 for the turn. 10 Managers listed in the
rankings were inactive.
Both of BIG MEAN FISH's kills came at the expense of ARROGANCE, losing half
their new recruits that entered last turn. The only other deaths came in the Dark
Arena. BAMBI of BEAST MASTERS just didn't have what it takes and her manager finally
sent her to her final fight and she didn't overcome the Avenging Zilthorn. Lord
Protector Paul attempted to hold off a Stone Golem in his final fight, but fell in 9
minutes.
Lord Protector SCOURGE left for the Isle earlier this week, not sticking around
even though he had the throne. DALLAS easily defeated PURPLE FIREFISH and had more
than enough recognition to become the new Duelmaster!
The hottest warrior list sees no new faces, but FRENCH GRUNT had a loss move off
his record and is 9-1 in the previous 10 turns. The other three, SWEATCAKE,
POOPIEHEAD, and JUST HAD A BIG GULP are all 7-3.
The challenges made this turn were not as successful as we typically see.
Challengers went 7-6 total (not including FRENCH GRUNT and MIDNIGHT ANGEL's
successful Bloodfeuds). My own wisdom says that challenging down makes it much
easier to win, in general. Only 3 of the 13 warriors challenged down this turn.
12 warriors went up a class this turn while 2 dropped down. The biggest jumps
were WIGGLER gaining 18 points and TALON moving up 17 points.
SUPERIOR FORCES 6N avoided CENTER FOR OLDS. BOSON was challenged the most (and
likely the majority of these were downchallenges, with BOSON at the bottom of the
adepts class last turn). GROBRAUM got his challenge through and overpowered BOSON in
1 minute.
One thing is very clear. With no freeze date for the tourney, we aren't seeing
an influx of teams activating. I may make an attempt to make predictions, but that
same fact of not having a freeze date makes the job of predicting much more
difficult. Especially considering how I made these predictions in the past. It is
much easier to report on what is going on IN the arena, like BABEL TETE DE BETON
being 4-0 or Parry Lungers dropping hard after an 0-4 outing this turn or Rippers
taking the top spot over the last ten turns.

Goat -- Not sure if Doc will be answering this one or not, but the required deftness
for HL is and has been 11. And while the HL is a weapon that does fearsome damage,
it is slower than slow. Whenever I see a warrior that uses a HL against heavy armor,
I'll challenge him with my slow offensive warrior wearing a bunch of armor with a
fast strategy. Might I suggest the Maul, which does some nice damage and is a whole
bunch faster! Not to mention the fact that the requirements are considerably less to
use. -- Assur
Guardian -- While calling them sandbaggers was an exaggeration on our part, saying
they had basically 0 tourney fights is an exaggeration on your part. They were
tourney warriors and had tourney experience about what you'd expect from such
warriors. The fear was justified, as you well know. You ran those warriors because
they had tourney potential and for the most part, they showed it in their tourney
performances and in the arena. Wonder Bra did not live up to your expectations in
tournaments, obviously, but he was still a fine warrior. Here were the tourney
results for all to see.
Chasity Belt -- 8-3 novices, 0-2 initiates, 1-3 adepts.
Entered BR at 10-4, 23 FE as a Champion.
Wonder Bra -- 0-3 novices, 4-3 initiates. (looks like WB didn't fight Adepts)
Entered BR at 11-4, 21 FE as a Challenger Adept.
Iron Hands Lee -- 8-3 novices, 9-3 initiates, 0-3 adepts.
Entered BR at 6-4, 24 FE as a Champion.
I do not have a problem with such warriors in my contest and as long as I'm
furnishing the prize, I will encourage managers to do whatever it takes to win. But
expect adversity when you bring in such warriors. Malaquar and Manager have the most
offensive warriors
Cadex CFM, with 4 TV's behind him.
Dallas, the immortal fight thrower, with 60FE and only 8 PP's
Note that Dallas has 35 FE in Tourney fights.
Your 3 warriors only pulled 3 TV's between them. Malaquar has 4 on 1 warrior.
Manager has 3, but his squad was developed perhaps even more carefully than yours and
through more DAs.
Manager's squad
Dallas, as above, but also DA'd 11 times for 11 rollups. Other TC prizes?!?
Cinderella, 2 time TV TP
Point Man, who has been carefully timed 4 times, but never performed. Probably
better than all of my warriors, but as Manager's weakest warrior, he sits most of the
time. Clearly, Manager believes in him or he wouldn't still be around.
Montpelier, another TV.
Good luck fighting them because Manager hides his warriors, fighting
sporadically to make it difficult to get challenges through. But hey, if it gets him
the win, kudos to him. I can only hope if he does win that he uses his prize in the
arena and we can get revenge in BR 4! -- Assur, historian
Doc Steele -- Seeing as I figured out I wouldn't be much of a factor on turn 1 of the
battle royal and you're just figuring it out now, I'd say that makes you a little
slow on the uptake and if you it was Neon that figured it out for you, well, that
speaks for itself. A team full of puds with no tourney xp and (with the exception of
Keeper of Souls who would have been a factor had he lived one more turn), a
collection of pretty average replacements that are not worth tourney fights, (or 10
skill prizes), clearly make me a non factor. -- Guardian
Neon -- While Keeper of Souls was a good kill for you, he was a decent but mostly
unbonused warrior. On the other hand, Soul Reaver rolled up little damage and poor
endurance and was sent at you to die so I could get another bloodfeud on you but you
choose to run and hide. All I can say is, pussy! -- Guardian
Scourge -- 'Tis only fitting that we travel to the Isle together! Here is what the
commission has to say about me. 16(2)-20(2)-9-11(2)-21(2)-10-7(2) TP. VL/VL BS,
Skills at: 15(-2?)/8/8/22/17(+3)/12. It took me 19FE to get those trains and Assur
almost DA'd me. After all, I started my career 2-6. But he'd committed to let me
train and then I was so old he pretty much had to run me. I learned skills much
faster, though, learning 52 in my remaining 23 FE. I guess running with the majority
of my faves didn't hurt my career much, either. But Assur refused to let me try and
work out any more with weights, saying if I could do better than normal damage with
what I'd already done with the weights, more weights probably wouldn't make any more
of a difference. -- Paul
I guess I should be flattered, receiving so many TV challenges lately, but it is
troubling me that I should be the recipient of so much attention.... At least by
holding out Wandering Star Manager lost a fight. Most likely, Montpelier thought
he'd have another easy win by TVing W.S. -- Assur
His Proctologist -- Apparently, little changes can go a long way. Best out of 4251?
-- Bart
Wiggler -- You're good, but might I recommend giving up wiggling and actually try
moving! -- Mary
BWD -- So are you actually going to graduate one of these PR's you're running or are
they going to go the same way as every other PR you've run here? -- Assur ;)
Sauve -- Muscle Bum was just an average warrior that got blessed so I decided to give
a chance. Enjoy the kill for I have nothing to BF with. For any interested, MB was
a SL 9-4-15-15-15-16-11 +3 INI, +5 ATT, +2-4 PAR, +2-4 DEF. I thought he might have
had a chance living as long as he did but that 4 con just wasn't enough. -- Phat Phat
Best Destiny -- Wellllll, that's not it. S'a daunting task. -- Echo
Neon (the fighter) -- May I welcome you, and ask you not to go anywhere for the
nonce. Cold Cuts has a certain something we'd like to make your acquaintance. -- Mr.
Ozone
Sunshine Bud Yellow -- No agonizing reappraisal...no long hours of self-
examination...no lengthy and noble and soulful inner communes...nope...I'm a fighter.
Nothing but...but that ain't hay. -- Millie
All -- Sorry I've been so quiet lately, I'll try and make some noise every now and
then.
Pip the Troll -- Sorry about killing Guardian (I can't believe I actually just said
that...), but you were the one that made the challenge. What were you thinking
anyway, a 1-fight warrior challenging an 8-fight warrior. -- Jolly
P.S. Alton is nothing great, but I do want to keep him around and not give away any
free wins to someone else in the contest so you won't be seeing much of him for the
next 4 turns.

MONGO'S MARDI GRAS MADNESS DUELMASTERS AUCTION
Mongo, aka Matt McIntosh and ex-Warden of the Dark Circle, is auctioning off his
entire collection of Duelmasters warriors and stables. Don't miss out on this chance
to own some fantastic warriors! There are ADM warriors available in every class from
Primus to Freshmen, as well as over a dozen Basic stables.
Does a Slasher with +4 attack, +4 decisiveness, +3 initiative and +2 riposte
sound good? How about a Lunger who received the benefit of a TC prize, has TVed
three times after graduating--and still hasn't maxed out his skills!? How about a
Striker in the Freshmen class who has decisiveness for a favorite learn and the MAUL
for a favorite weapon!?
Or perhaps you prefer playing in Basic. Then how does a stable with four Adept
class warriors who have a combined record of 41-19-9 sound? Or maybe a stable with
three 21-Will warriors? Or perhaps a stable with four Initiates and a Rookie who
have a combined record of 23-6-1?
The quality of the lots is excellent. All you need to view and bid on the lots
is go to:
http://members.aol.com/jvmerlino/mardigras.html
If you want to be on the mailing list to receive regular updates on the auction,
just send an e-mail to JVMerlino@aol.com. Merlin, aka John Merlino and also an ex-
Warden of the Dark Circle, will be running this auction for me. I just moved to New
Orleans and am likely currently stumbling around the French Quarter...because it's
Mardi Gras! So I have named my auction in honor of this occasion.
The auction will start on Saturday, March 13th, 2004, and will continue for
several weeks. But you should get your bids in early if you want your best chance at
owning any of these fantastic warriors and stables.
Many thanks to all for your interest and your bids,
Mongo

Style Masters Symposium
Hosted by Hammer
The years have slipped by and many DM Managers have come and gone since the last
Hammer's Handbook was compiled and printed.
There is now a stirring within me to begin writing and editing yet another
Handbook with a distribution date sometime in 2005.
This Handbook will be made available via Email with a possibility of burning the
info to a CD for distribution.
Special arrangements will be made to provide the information via printed page to
those contributors who are serving sentences behind bars.
The working title of this new Handbook is "Style Masters Symposium Hosted by
Hammer".
Distribution of this Handbook is projected to be MAINLY for those DM Managers
who contribute information/articles to Hammer by June 2004.
Informative and entertaining articles should focus on insights regarding Any or
All 10 Style Masters for both the Basic and ADM arenas as well as Tourney
competition.
Articles focusing on Weapons/Armor are also encouraged for inclusion.
Whether you are a Newbie Manager without a clue or a Jaded Veteran; everyone has
discovered something about this gaming experience that is both Insightful and
Entertaining.
Email Your Articles to HammerDM@fastermail.com or send them via Diplo to either
Flower Hammerz (372) in DM 28 or Casino Hammerz (576) in DM 33.
Length and Content of the Style Masters Symposium Hosted by Hammer will be
Determined by the Quality and Quantity of Contributors Combined with the Literary
Efforts of Hammer who is currently overseas for an indefinite period of time.
Articles Contributed for this Project should be of Sufficient Length and Content
to Warrant being Included to Receive the Finished Document when Hammer has completed
this literary work to His satisfaction.
Managers contributing articles are also requested to include a DM Bio of
Themselves along with any Notable Successes and/or Failures during Their DM Career in
Basic, ADM and/or Tourney Play.
A listing of Active Stables would also be Helpful for Anyone Seeking to Reply to
Contributors via Diplo, Email or Snailmail.

St. Valentine's Day Massacre Update
We are pleased to announce that the kLk sponsored St. Valentine's Day Massacre
kill contest in DM 36 is off to a great start. We are also pleased to announce that
in addition to the 10 team rollups we are also able to offer the renaming of a dark
arena warrior as a prize to the manager with the most kills. The contest is only 2
turns old and is still wide open. There are currently 5 managers tied with one kill
each. Anything can still happen so hurry up and get into the arena.
On a personal note, no other alliances have entered the arena in force to
challenge the kLk dominance. We were expecting The Firm to put up a fight for their
supposed home arena. But, they were a no show. Guess they proved what they are
really made of. *evil grin*
Perhaps another alliance would like to step in to give us a challenge. We are
throwing down the gauntlet. Perhaps the Chaos Inc. boys I keep hearing about would
like to step in and challenge the kLk for arena dominance. If you don't show up,
Chaos, don't feel bad. FAR better managers than you have been invited into Jhans but
have chosen to pass on the offer.
So if you consider yourself worthy to compete, like fierce competition, and
enjoy arenas where the personals are as fierce as the fighting, come visit JHANS DM
36. We're already planning our next contest, "Capture the Flag," and have a
storyline being actively worked on in the arena. Whatever you like about DM you can
find it in JHANS.

This notice is to inform the DM world that CHAOS INC. has added CHEETO to its
ranks. He joins APEX, FLAGG, MATRIX, ASSAMITE, and RUDE BUDDHA as the 6th member.
May your chaotic wings spread disaster and CHAOS for all your days! Welcome CHEETO!!

Has anyone seen it in print that the "Goat" is leaving the "Cartel"? There were
some diplos to the effect of a special branch of the Cartel being formed, like secret
societies, governmental agencies and alliances certain agendas are developed. To
obtain the desired effect of any agenda only key personnel can be used. The "Goat"
is "Cartel" so until you see it with me announcing that I am not Cartel, remember,
"The Agenda of the Core is for you to fight for." I hope this stops the confusion.
