Hammer stared at the old parchment map and pondered upon what might have happened
during his long absence from Alastari.
Seam was listed on the old map as one of the northernmost Aruaki cities of the
Andorian League. However, as the newest non-tourney arena, it now flies the flag of
the Delarquan Federation. Hammer had seen stranger things in his travels, but this
was a bit alarming, especially from the viewpoint of the Independent Free Blades
Nations, from whence the veteran manager began long ago from his roots on Noblish
Island and other arenas.
There were mysteries to unearth and darker forces to oppose that were not evident to
most of the inhabitants of this city. But first, the veteran manager must establish
roots here, before building what must be built, to help oppose the forces of the
coming darkness.
Seam was built on a fault line, suffering occasionally from minor earthquakes,
originating from the great crack in the earth north of the city. However, the
numerous hot springs and geysers had attracted tourists and wealthy travelers,
flocking to numerous resorts and bathing houses. Quite some time ago, Hammer had
discovered a new secluded area of geysers and hot springs, birthed from the tremors of
the great crack, from whence Seam got its name.
The area was hidden among the rocky crags of an unclaimed territory to the northeast
of the city. Hammer was able to secure the seemingly worthless region without much
fanfare [but that is a story for another time], as there were plenty of opportunities
for industrious entrepreneurs to gain wealth and prominence much nearer to the city
proper. The rocky crags were not only defensible, but Hammer had discovered a natural
'arena' as it were [hidden deep in an obscure cavern], where he could secretly train a
small army without much notice, under the guise of developing warriors for the great
Seam arena.
Mineral water was plentiful for carving a wealthy niche in the the bottled water
trade; plus there were outlying areas, far enough away from the secret caverns and
secluded training arena, where a fancy resort could be built to tap into the wealth
being spent by tourists and travelers to bask in the delights of the hot springs and
fiery geysers that had made Seam famous in other regions.
Dwarf engineers and miners had secretly been imported by Hammer to develop the
acquired vast acreage of seemingly worthless region of rocky crags, transported by the
ways and means at Hammer's disposal.
Although a few miles away from the hustle and bustle of the city proper, there were
numerous tourists and noblemen and for that matter, noblewomen, who were willing to
pay a great price for the privacy to indulge their fantasies, as patrons of a new
resort secluded among the rocky crags. The large and impressive arena in Seam was
drawing numerous tourists, intrigued by the gathering of warriors and managers, who
had forsaken the lure of the tourneys in other arenas, for a return to the pure form
of the sport: undisturbed by the hidden effects and magical enhancements of the
tourneys.
Hammer had also discovered an assortment of gems and precious metals to be harvested
from deep beneath the rocky crags, that the veteran manager was now developing into
his own personal stronghold, from whence he could finance his small army and stable of
warriors in training for combat in the large and impressive Seam arena.
The lure of fame and fortune, fueled by the resources that Hammer had discovered
hidden beneath the rocky crags [as well as the resort being built to lure the wealthy
to experience the pleasures of the unique hot springs and fiery geysers that were
secluded among the rocky crags], had drawn numerous Half Elves to assemble themselves
to train at the secret natural arena, by personal invitation from the famous veteran
manager.
Hammer had selected a number of Kannari and Shagornan Elf bred warriors to populate
his growing army and stable of warriors.
"Tongues Of Fire" was the name that Hammer had chosen for his unique resort area,
aptly named for the fiery geysers secluded among the rocky crags.When questioned as to
the name of his new no tourney stable of warriors, Hammer merely mentioned his Tongues
Of Fire resort, to which the Gladiatorial Commission clerk exclaimed: "Ah! Tongues Of
Fire!"
So it was spoken! So it was written! Ah Tongues Of Fire would soon cross blades upon
the sands of the magnificent Seam arena!
DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
Notes from the arena champ.
It is I: The evil, bad scientist Professor Monkeynuts! I generally spend my time
working on my Scary Robot but my spanner is in for repair, so here I am.
Sara Dullbulb, you dimwit. I flawlessly execute a finely crafted plan by pole
vaulting onto the throne over lackluster cretins with two to three times my
experience, and, by some miracle, a lone thought miraculously finds its way into your
head to wonder if I was actually intending to pull off some deeper machination?
Forest for the trees, my poor imbecile, forest for the trees. Many of you mouth-
breathers have been commenting on my pants of late and I'll need you to stop before I
turn Scary Robot loose on you. The name is Professor Monkeynuts, NOT Professor
Monkeypants. It's not terribly surprising that Dullbulb's press apparatus
continuously makes errors. Incompetence runs rampant at that organization!
Pucker & Bloat is vaguely reminiscent of various scatological practices, so I'll try
to be brief in my assessment of our match. He was obviously bloated from fluid
retention so I, being the good Samaritan that I am, poked some holes in him to allow
some of that fluid to escape. The fluid was so rank and fetid -- a lurid yellow color
to boot -- that he nearly died and I, well, had I not been Evil Bad Scientist
Professor Monkeynuts, I likely would have puckered and sprayed him with last night's
sushi!
After watching the good Baron dismantle Sif, I think I shall follow in his estimable
footsteps. The Baron's, that is, not Sif's. I might even break out Scary Robot to
assist if I can find the blasted remote control.

SPY REPORT
Good afternoon, my pretties! Wonderful to see you so soon after the tournament.
I know the tournament does not affect us directly since we are a no tourney arena, but
let's be honest, the tournament affects everything! The Commission gets busy with all
the tournament paperwork, missives become delayed, and fights get postponed. Luckily,
we have experienced none of that thus far! It is moving along like a well-oiled
golem, and we have fights to discuss in Seam!
PROF. MONKEYPANTS jumped unfashionably into the throne last turn.
::::Shudder::::: Every time, every time I look at those pants I feel a strong desire
to drink a potion of blindness. Anyway, PROF. MONKEYPANTS from I'M NOT EGGBERT fought
PITTYVAICH of THIRSTY THUGS. It took 3 minutes, but PITTYVAICH becomes our newest
Duelmaster in Seam. He also got his invitation to the Isle, so his reign will be
short. PITTYVAICH is managed by DMobster. He also becomes the first Parry Lunge to
graduate from the new Seam arena. Congrats to DMobster and PITTYVAICH for this
distinction!
We find THIRSTY THUGS to be the most feared team in the arena. I'M NOT EGGBERT
avoided them the most. Is it coincidence or irony that these two teams met in the
title fight? I often get those two confused. ANUBIS, with his 15-19-2 record, was
the most challenged warrior this turn. MINNESOTA JONES was able to get his challenge
through to ANUBIS, but it did little good as MINNESOTA JONES lost to ANUBIS in a 2
minute fight.
There wasn't much death to speak of in the arena. LOST SENTINELS sent CODEX to
the Dark Arena after his 1-4 regular arena career. BANDIT PRINCE wasted no time
dispatching him. May your future recruiting be more successful! JOSEY WALES
bloodfeuded CRAQUELURE for killing his teammate, CALAMITY JANE, on turn 34. JOSEY
WALES was successful with his feud, defeating CRAQUELURE in a one-sided, 1 minute
bout.
Someone finally decided to take over the top spot! THIRSTY THUGS, on the power
of a 3-2 turn, takes over sole possession of the number 1 spot. DARQUE KNIGHTS
faltered with a 2-3 effort that made them drop to 4th. COMMERCIALIST rockets into the
top 5 after going 4-1. Their 5 spot jump gives them the largest gain for the turn.
On the flip side, the aforementioned DARQUE KNIGHTS tied with PIXELBENDERS for the
biggest loss by falling 3 places.
That is enough from me, my sweets! I will see you next turn as we anticipate
more exciting action on the sands. PITTYVAICH will fight his last bout next turn, so
who will step forward and seize the throne? Will they take it by force or on the
