THE NO-AVOIDS POLICY

First of all I want to apologize to everyone in the contest for what I consider to be
my own mistake, and I hope that this will settle the matter without it causing a great
deal of unneeded controversy.

I am sure most of you noticed it was mentioned in the spy report that Darque had made
an avoid on the previous turn. So he broke the no-avoids rule and is getting kicked
out of the contest, right? As Your Host and Moderator of the contest, I will not be
kicking out Darque, especially considering that I feel the responsible party here is
me and no one else.

It is my fault that I did not initially clarify in the rules that you may not avoid a
*contest* team... that is... any team that is currently in the contest standings.
That's what it should have said, and that's what it would have said if I had thought
of it. Unfortunately, I did not make that clarification simply because I did not think
of it at the time. I tried to think ahead of contingencies prior to them actually
happening (like *exactly* how the contest ends) so there would be no arguments later,
but I really dropped the ball on this one.

If you will bear with me, think about it for a moment, and please forget about what is
written in the rules: if using avoids is not allowed in the contest, do you think it
makes any sense that you cannot avoid a team that is *not* in the contest? In my mind
that falls firmly *outside" the realm of the contest and does not and should not
matter. Kicking Darque out of the contest would not seem right to me being that the
team he avoided is no longer in the contest. From my perspective, it would feel to me
as if he was getting punished for *my* error. And another thing: If a non-contest team
is here to wreak havoc on only certain contestants, I do not wish these teams to be at
the non-contest team's mercy without their most effective defense mechanism, and that
is the right to avoid.

I have not talked directly to Darque about this matter, and it surprised me that he
went ahead and made that avoid without the safety net of the rule being clarified
first. But I'm glad he did so it is out in the open relatively early. I'm tempted to
award him a 6-pack for his ingenuity... LOL.

*** RULE CHANGE ***

I had a suggestion put forth pretty much unanimously by the rest of the Frothingslosh
Syndicate. that the NO-AVOID POLICY is actually a bit too harsh, and I'm going to
implement their suggestion: if you get caught. avoiding a contest team, you will not
be kicked out of the contest, but you WILL incur a 10-bottle penalty, So it's still a
pretty severe penalty... and something that is very much in your best interests to
"avoid" lol.

So please feel free to avoid to your heart's content any team(s) that are not in the
contest standings; I truly believe that this decision is in the best interests of the
contest moving forward.

SPY REPORT

Greetings warriors! It is I, Zontani Sharp Eyes, here to bring report of the
clash and bustle of the weekly SEAM games. Former top team LOCAL GIRLS was unseated
this week as WAY OF ALL FLESH moved up from 2nd ranking to take the top spot with a
4-1-1 record for the round. I have begun to suspect trickery on the part of HUCKLE'S
CATS. How else weeks like this one's 4-1-0? How else the sudden move to 5th team?
Fortune did not smile upon THIRSTY THUGS this time out who this turn suffered a fall
into 18th position in the wake of a 0-4-0 round. My praise to CONSTANT SORROW for
their 4-1-1 week this time out. Indeed, it was a skillfully fought round deserving
of notice! In one of the week's more notable duels, PLANK put down ATARI 2600,
causing him to lose 18 points of recognition in the process. Most watched of the
fights this week, the spotlight was on SPYMASTER as he bore arms against the Dark
Arena Challenge of reigning Duelmaster COCAINE SMILE. Not for nothing has COCAINE
SMILE in the past laid claim to the Duelmaster's throne, and this week it's proven
its combat skill yet again. Would you believe that over half of the old women in
SEAM seem to feel that they could fight better than you gladiators?
I have been in deep conclave with my spies who watched all that has recently
transpired. Indeed there is much I would report. I saw one fighter that warriors
avoided when this week's challenge seeking began. LOST SENTINELS is feared. This
much I can say. Apparently the stalwarts of PANDEMIC BOREDOM are catching the bulk
of jests down at the challenging board for their large share of the avoids. Mighty
fighters cannot but expect competition from those below. ROSE MOFFORD take warning!
You have more than a few enemies in SEAM. At the gambling halls I have started to
bet money on DO IT TOMORROW. She has got the courage it takes. Witness hers
challenge this turn against LIZ DANFORTH! In the end DO IT TOMORROW was subdued by
LIZ DANFORTH, a "sharp" reminder that higher recognition is an indication of greater
skill. Still, it was a worthy bout! As a gladiator gets older, the icy grip of fear
lays hold of its heart. True, HOLD THIS? Who could miss your "brave" challenge of
THICK AS THEBES? All the city knows the duel went in favor of HOLD THIS. I shall
not fail to spread the word in other cities of this "mighty" victory. CANNON MOLE
must really be harboring a grudge against the AKAKIA guild! Merciless, 24 challenged
down GREG points this week to duel with he. The weight of the challenge fell hard
upon GREG and predictably he was beat by CANNON MOLE. This is how to arouse the
anger of an entire guild! A match that raised a few eyebrows at the games this week,
it seems that POOR JUDGEMENT posted a challenge against the more highly recognized
MECHADEPLORABLE. The results, you ask? Well, the firebrand POOR JUDGEMENT overcame
MECHADEPLORABLE. Remember warriors, this is the discipline of steel.
What warrior does not hone his years, impatiently waiting for the moment of his
foe's mortality? Strange what qualities come forth in the face of certain doom.
COCAINE SMILE has the town astir with the news of its Dark Arena victory! Look no
more for CAPTAIN OBVIOUS in the arena or on the streets of SEAM. His fate was sealed
in the Dark Arena. Inevitable for one at 26-26-1. Perhaps even the strong cannot
escape the vagaries of this world. This week arena veteran SUZIE CANA was slain,
despite a 8-4-0 record. Some say a warrior is judged by the way he bears arms. One
thing is sure, better a dagger in hand then a sword on the belt!
A thought before I go. Each warrior practices one style, but must not the wise
manager learn the secrets of them all? More than a sharp eye must I keep, indeed a
stout pair of legs must I keep as well! The endless paths of Alastari await me!

contest has turned out to be tracking down *why* someone has not fielded a full team.

every turn? In other words...fight your replacements blind. There's no reason not to:
every win earns a bottle and losses do not count against you. So please give alf a

happening, I had Tubi installed on my Roku and I'm watching Dick Powell make some very

The incursion of chaos creatures into northern Alastari has been stopped. However,
the gate they came through is open, and there are people from Alastari trapped on the
other side. They need to be rescued, and the gate needs to be closed. If you have a
Lord Protector whom you would like to send on this mission, please send a message to

know their physical description, personality, and method of fighting. We will select

LAST WEEK'S FIGHTS

COCAINE SMILE delivered the death blow upon SPYMASTER in a 1 minute Dark Arena fight.
