Madam Butterfly allowed the door to the guildhouse to swing open wide, and posed
dramatically in the opening. "I have it!" she exclaimed.
Lugo Beloski looked up from a crossword puzzle and scowled at her. "Take two
aspirins and maybe it'll go away."
Sara Divine came down from the bedroom floor lugging her duffel bag. "What are
you doing here? You're supposed to be on the Isle of the Eye," she snapped, "not on
the Isle of Sunset."
Madam Butterfly gave her a cool look. "I go where I please. And I have here,"
she flourished a scroll, "the magnificent tragic opera of the Canary."
Miranda Grace, sitting quietly in the far corner, had to cover her mouth with
both hands to keep back the laughter.
Beloski wasn't so restrained. When he stopped laughing, he gasped, "Canaries
aren't tragic! Gods, the very idea! They're comic--"
Ace, the current male lead in the opera company, said quickly, "No way I'm
playing the part of a canary. Besides, I don't do comic opera."
The diva stalked into the common room, slamming the door behind her. A skilled
actress, she projected so much outrage that the walls bulged away from her. "This is
a great tragic opera," she said tensely. "The heroic Canary, exiled heir to a
barony--"
"Is he really?" Miranda Grace asked.
Madam Butterfly shrugged. "I have no idea, but a tragic hero needs something
like that in his background."
"Oh. Well, what happens next?"
"He's in love, of course," Sara Divine said. "These tragic operas are all
pretty much alike. Probably a beautiful, modest maiden of noble blood whose cruel
and ambitious father has pledged her to marry the usurping baron--"
Picking up from his teammate, Rudi Jamos chanted, "Intrigue, betrayal, combat."
"Ending with a duel against the usurper, played by Lugo," Sara agreed. "The
villain kills the hero, the heroine--could that be Kitty Chowder by any chance? The
heroine kills the villain and then herself. A tragic time is had by all."
"It's a traditional form," Madam Butterfly said defensively. "Crowds love the
traditional forms. Now, the casting--I will of course play--"
"Somebody's mother," Sara cut in. "You're well past the 'dewy innocent' look
that the heroine needs. Either the heroine's mother, a hand-wringer, or the
villain's scheming bitch--"
Madam Butterfly screamed in rage and started throwing things.
SPY REPORT
You elder fighters surely remember me. The younger ones may call me Olaf
Modeen. I return to SUNSET once again! Who can explain it? Not you, not me, not
MEOW MIX's opponents, after watching them shoot up the ranks from 27th to 14th. Some
people say I ramble too much, I don't say anything relevant. I repeat myself. I
ramble. Well CARNAGE CANARIES moved up 2, to 5th. SUNSET's got someone new to push
around. C'mon everyone, challenge AIR ATTACK. Let's see how long they last. What's
with MONSOON? She actually beat BLACKEST PRIDE's THE VILLAIN, and walked away with
33 more points from the fight. Major screwup at KILL AT WILL. GRAVITY THIEF lost 15
points to PINEAPPLE HEAD. Some new strategies, perhaps? Maybe GRAVITY THIEF will
provide more easy wins... Another fighter (POTOMACC 14-5-0) challenged another
Duelmaster (STINKALOGICAL 18-9-1). Life goes on. Try as he might, POTOMACC wasn't
good enough at persuading STINKALOGICAL to step down from the Duelmaster's throne...
Advice to fighters with a 1 will--give up fighting!
Speaking of cowardly avoiders and unfair challenges... How well I know the
feeling of being in the most avoided team! Don't fall out of practive, BOOK OF
STINK! The bums at STORM WARNING couldn't face the challenges from BOOK OF STINK!
No excuse for that! How well I know the feeling of being the most challenged
warrior, ORIGINAL STINK! Don't make idle boasts, they may come back to haunt you.
Taunt your opponent MALLIA! That was my lucky charm when I was unfairly challenged.
(and by 19 points!) CARNAL should have an easy win. CARNAL beat MALLIA. GRIM
FANDANGO calls this fighting? In my day... Fighting is a better craft than farming,
TWEETY, but you have to pay your dues. Being challenged by SENSEI JAN, 17 points
above you, is dues. SENSEI JAN left the match looking worse than when she went in,
after TWEETY, with a 0-2-0, walked all over her. SYLVESTER F. of BLACKEST PRIDE
knows how to pick 'em. He challenged ORIGINAL STINK of BOOK OF STINK who is up by
19. Now was this a wise move? SYLVESTER F. perhaps got his just desserts, seeing as
he won victory over ORIGINAL STINK and ended up with 50 recognition points.
Warriors of SUNSET unite. You have only your games to lose! MONSOON killed THE
VILLAIN, and expects revenge from BLACKEST PRIDE. The dead are better off dead--they
have no worries. We all knew it had to happen sooner or later. A warrior can't
stick around with a 4-5-1, and KITTEN FRICASEE easily took care of TYRELA. MORDRAITH
of KILL AT WILL got 10 points for removing another young punk. Tough luck, THE
BLOODBANES! Someone told THE ANGEL that BOOK OF STINK never Bloodfeuded, that he'd
have an easy kill. Well, I'm sure whoever misled you is right sorry. ZERO COOL was
plum wore out after KITTY CHOWDER pounded 'im silly in a Bloodfeud. MINISTRY OF
SKA'll have to get a little better before going after KITTY CHOWDER again! Here's
some advice: study your opponent, master many skills, fight dirty.
Many other cities have retirement homes for aged warriors. Any plans here? The

An Announcement Concerning the Brotherhood of the Blade Alliance:
I have chosen to withdraw my membership from the Brotherhood of the Blade
alliance. The years I have spent in the alliance have been the best of my DM career.
I leave the alliance with many great friends and will always remain close to my
former brethren.
The Brotherhood of the Blade will not skip a beat without my membership. It
remains in very capable hands and its roster is among the strongest in the game.
With the return on some of its founding members to DM, I know the BOB will continue
