TEAM SPOTLIGHT
Another day of dueling down in the Jewel of the Delarquan Federation! The sun
sets upon its namesake as I, Quicksilver, once again take up the pen to document the
carnage that is the MOTS (Manager on the Sands) contest.
The action's heating up as the contestants try to put their money where their
mouths are and climb the ranks to achieve the prize, immortality and five, count'em,
FIVE brand new never-before-seen team sheets straight from the Gladiatorial
Commission. Who knows, the next rookies TC could be lurking in there! Also, the
winning manager shall have the honor (I think it's an honor, anyway) of having a Dark
Arena monster named after them for six months. Laugh with glee (example:
BUWAHAHAHAHA!!!!) as your fellow managers, utterly bereft of design ideas or perhaps
frustrated beyond patience with an underachieving wuss, send them off to beg for
their lives at your feet in the torchlight while the crowd screams for their demise,
which of course you will provide at no extra charge, cause you da D.A. MAN!! That's
right, baby....
What happened last turn?? Let's have us a look. Sylvester F. stays on top and
looking tough, vaulting all the way to the challenger adepts off a failed Yakuza take
down attempt. One should always be careful rising too far too fast, shouldn't one?
After another successful tournament he may not need to, though. Mordraith takes the
turn off and dodges another bloodfeud, them Bloodbanes gotta be steamin'.
Dreihdenflahg comes back with a win and a jump into the Adepts, as Mr. Twister and
Youngblood also put another in the W column. Sensei Jan put down C. Canary in our
only manager vs. manager matchup. Methinks, boys, if you wanna stay in the running,
you best be makin' some up-challenges and gaining some headway outa the initiates!
New guys!! Slaughter Priest, I see your duel last cycle, glad to have you
aboard but of course you need to declare your participation in the personals
immediately to qualify officially. And of course, the erstwhile Sungod. Got lost on
the way to the arena, son? Lyratilan doesn't look a lot like Sunset, at least not
while sober. In any case, after conferring with the contest's host and the
Gladiatorial Commission, it's been decided that if by some chance in hell you make
good on your TC boast that will indeed win you the contest. A great feat to be sure,
but I'd be loathe to see our winner walk off with the prize without having ever set
foot on Sunset sand to duel. More likely you may TV (along with a couple other
managers) and get yourself back out here for a real shot with everyone else. Good
luck to you in any case!

Ace, already upset by the curly blond wig the diva had selected for him,
glowered. "If I'm going to play the heroic Canary in your damned opera," he snarled,
shifting his grip on Miranda Grace, "it'll be the way *I* interpret the role. I
don't figure any hero worth mentioning would 'cherish' a tasty little piece like this
like she was some china doll or something. Heroes know what to do with women! It's
in the Hero Manual--"
"There's a manual for heroes?" Talper asked, surprised. As the newest member of
the team, he realized that he had a lot to learn. A Hero Manual sounded like a good
place to start.
"Yeah, I got it with cereal box tops," Ace said. "It's on top of my dresser.
Help yourself."
As the young gladiator hurried out of the room, Miranda Grace gave a quick twist
of her hips and slid out of Ace's grip. "He pinches in the clinches," she observed
without heat. She rubbed her hip and sighed. "I never knew being in an opera would
be like this."
"It isn't SUPPOSED to be," Madam Butterfly gritted. She threw down her copy of
the script. "We'll have to get a new actor to play the Heroic Canary."
"Yeah, right, like there is anybody else! Who you gonna pick, that runt Jamos?
The kid? You need me, babe," Ace answered, grinning.
"This is what you wanted me for?" a new voice asked from the doorway. Everybody
turned. The newcomer topped Ace's five foot eleven by two inches and had an easy
self-confidence that Ace lacked. His cool glance dismissed Ace as unimportant,
flicked across Madam Butterfly, and settled approvingly on Miranda Grace.
"Yes!" The diva smiled triumphantly at Ace. "Meet Lord Protector Black Victor,
a graduate of our team. He has agreed to take the part of the hero in this opera."
"So long as I don't have to wear tights," Victor cut in quickly. "Don't forget
that--try to get me to wear tights, and I'm out of here."

that Stinkalogical lords over you right now. He should have died. His numbers are
too good to survive basic. But now he's immortal. Go figure.

Good day, in SUNSET a quiet thief gets rich, but a quiet spymaster gets poor.
So bring me ale and harken to my tidbits of news. It seems the training can make the
difference, as SWORD OPERA is pushed out of top team by CARNAGE CANARIES, who came
from 4th with a 3-2-0 this turn. Now keep the taverns open late tonight, for there
are sorrows to drown for YAKUZA, whose 2-3-0 this turn dropped them by 6 into 12th.
RAGE stable has parlayed this turn's 3-2-0 into a 9 space move up the rankings. This
brings them up to 8th place. Good work, guys! The SONS OF SATAN guild has had a
4-1-0 turn and deserves to be watched in the future. You never know where this kind
of thing can lead. And let's see, TSUNAMI fought POTOMACC and gained 26 points and
contributed to STORM WARNING's 2-3-0. SKULL STROKER has lost to SI-SHREE, falling 19
points, while helping make BLACKEST PRIDE a 3-2-0 turn. CLAW challenged for the
Duelmastership this turn, attempting to dethrone BOOK OF STINK's warrior. And all
eyes were on CLAW this turn as she ascended to the throne of Duelmaster. SUNSET has
a new victor! By the way, was that our Duelmaster that I saw last night, cramped
under the table at Cagliostro's Castle?
I tell you, a green quarterstaff lasts longer than a seasoned sapling. A basher
friend of mine assures me this is true. I also notice that the CARNAGE CANARIES
stable was the most avoided team this turn. Come on SUNSET, what are you afraid of?
And guess who avoided CARNAGE CANARIES stable the most? Believe it or not, it was
STORM WARNING. Anyone surprised? Well, sports fans, take notice that SENSEI JAN
from YAKUZA was SUNSET's most challenged warrior this turn. I don't know about you,
but SENSEI JAN challenging down 16 points to MINISTRY OF SKA's HI-JINX, is not really
worthy of YAKUZA. It pains me to see warriors take advantage of the system like
this. SENSEI JAN subdued HI-JINX, as if it surprises anyone. In a brave attempt,
HURRICANE from STORM WARNING challenged up 21 points to fight SANTO STINKO from the
BOOK OF STINK stable. HURRICANE perhaps got hers just desserts, seeing as she was
bested by SANTO STINKO and ended up with 80 recognition points. ZERO COOL of
MINISTRY OF SKA had better have a good reason for challenging down 8 points in a
challenge which he lost. I thought ZERO COOL showed great skill and promise when he
was defeated by GRAVITY THIEF. All right, so I slept through it! Big deal!
A coward dies a thousand deaths, a brave man only once. Wise men know this to
be true. Kudos go out to SONJA BLOODBANE this turn, for revenging THE BLOODBANES'
bloodfeud against KILL AT WILL's warrior MORDRAITH. Well done. Cagliostro's Castle
declares a free round for CARNAL and all of GRIM FANDANGO, for having revenged SWORD
OPERA's MIRANDA GRACE for killing one of their comrades. We'd like to remind certain
teams not to rob the graves of their enemies. You know who you are; and it's
