DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
Notes from the arena champ.
One last column from the top! I'm extremely pleased to have received my
invitation to the Isle after dispatching young master Baumgarten last turn on the
sands! Well, perhaps all those skills he picked up off me will do him some good in
the future. With my departure, the throne will be up for grabs, and you won't have
to listen to (or read) any more gloating columns from a Fandango warrior for a good
while, since I'm the last of the "Old Guard." All the newbies in the stable will
take a while to work their way up here. Hopefully it won't be as long as I took,
however. Frankly, I'm amazed I made it out of here alive with this many FE. If a
couple of the veteran managers had stayed active, I'd probably be pushing daisies
right now!
For my last duel on the glorious sands of Sunset, I'll not be making any
challenges. I know what I said last turn, but the Old Man's feeling lazy, so...
whoever wants some, come get it! I'll be using my faves, of course, so watch
yourself! Until we meet again in the next life (or on the Isle, anyway), blades UP!!
Skydancer
Departing Duelmistress of Sunset
Stik here, adding a little on the tail end. Haven't done so in a while and
thought I'd catch up, just in case all my personals aren't enough for you! Ha ha!!
Skydancer completes a circle of amazing good fortune for me here in my home
arena with her graduation. She was: 11(+2)-9(+1)-12-17-17-6-15 slasher, master
att/init, expert riposte, adv. exp. decise/parry, VH/LOW, LO, learns parry. She's +3
init and dec., mode all else. I went back and forth between the LO and EP her whole
career and thought for sure her fave was EP by the last 10 turns or so, but turns out
it was LO, can't complain! Was hoping for EP, though, then all I would need is a
slasher to graduate with a great axe fave and I'd have one in ADM with every slasher
weapon. Have to wait a bit longer on that one. For being such a nice, balanced
rollup and learning fairly well, the old gal was always a bit of an underachiever,
the parry fave didn't help but was interesting to play with, though. I ran her with
a parry tactic in desperation for some time. She is the tenth graduate from this
team, following Risc, Carnal, Potomacc, Bottineau, Glimmor, Blevins, Dazey, Drane,
and Blak Mask to immortality. She may run on the Isle at some point, but at the
moment I've got a full card there, so she'll go inactive and wait her turn, if it
ever comes up.
Got a nice new crop of recruits coming in for replacements, including a very
sweet rollup for Drane's replacement, look out! I'm gonna hold him out and run him
in rookies at the Face, I think. TV/TC potential!! Of course, now that I've bragged
he'll go 0-2, ah well! We've had some new teams pop up lately to fill out our bottom
end, and that's great to see. After some initial talk, things have died down a lot,
however.
This is my home arena, and I can't STAND to be one of those 5-10 team holes
where half the managers are just tourney-timing and nobody talks, that's WICKED
boring!! Ultraist, Sly, Sensei Jan, Floyd, and all other inactive vets (even you,
Kano Clan), get your asses back in here, Sunset needs you!!! Papa Bear and Crip, get
off your duffs and write a couple personals, it won't kill you! You young up and
comers, let's hear some smack! Perhaps soon we can host another Manager on the Sands
contest or something. I'm a bit loathe to fire up yet another contest, but if it
gets teams back in here and managers active again, let's do it! What does everyone/
anyone think!
Well, that's it for now, just thought I'd use the soap box one last time since I
won't have it again for a while. Keep it sharp everyone. (raising a frothy ale)

Stik and Grim Fandango
SPY REPORT
If you were disturbed from your beauty rest only to have to watch a bunch of
SUNSET brutes like you, you'd be grouchy, too. Now keep the taverns open late
tonight, for there are sorrows to drown for MUSCLE MEN, whose 0-0-0 this turn dropped
them by 6 into 9th. Ha! MAGIC CITY MAFIA turned their 3-0-0 turn into a 4th place
rank in the listings this turn. Any better than this, and you get put on hit lists.
Of course, we're all terribly impressed to see BLUE BEARD win a fight and gain 19
points, terribly. Tsk, tsk, AZRAEL beat TUSK and TUSK lost 10 points. You're
breakin' my heart. Looks like SUNSET has some guts at least, SKYDANCER the
Duelmaster was this turn's most-challenged warrior. PRIME SLIME challenged SUNSET's
Duelmaster for a shot at the throne. And if variety is the spice of life, SUNSET may
be getting bland, as SKYDANCER stays top dog in the city. Kickbacks and bribes,
kickbacks and bribes, how else do you think some of these guys win their fights?
Skill? Ha!
He who fights and runs away will live to fight another day, the coward. What's
the big D? GRIM FANDANGO was the most avoided team? Bunch of lily livered...
grumble... mumble... curse... And it looks like GRIM FANDANGO avoided them the most
this turn. What a pack of would be losers, if you ask me. Hmph. And we have MOON
DANCE in a challenge, going down 12 points for the fight. Guess what? I thought
MOON DANCE showed great skill and promise when he overcame DEUCE. All right, so I
slept through it! Big deal!
Some people like volunteer work in the hospitals. I volunteer for SUNSET's
morgue. More variety. Titanium shields and bamboo daggers, guess what brave team is
developing these kinds of weapons?
I was about to buy a new quill pen the other day, but some fighter took it for
an epee. Forgive me for writing with a dagger. Just wait 'till next time I show up
here, I won't be so nice! So nyaaah! Glad to see the back of this place-- Snide
