SPY REPORT
So why do I have this bag over my head? Because I am The Unknown Spymaster and
I'm going to give you a spy report!. Say good-bye to LITERATE LOONS, as they are
pushed from the coveted top team spot by the NOMADIC TRIBE stable. For every winner
there is a loser. Speaking of losers, lets take a look at FEEBLE LEGION, who went
down to 11th from 18th. Life is tough. Coming up with a solid 4-0-0 outing,
PESTILENCE has advanced 7 places in the rankings. SONS OF SATAN is no joke as it
posted a 4-1-0 week advancing from 7th place to 4th place. Don't these new hotshots
make you sick (or, if they fought you, hurt)? FAMINE, on their very first turn, went
3-1-1. CHAOS seems to have it's eye on the top team spot, and if they continue
having 4-0-0 weeks they may get it! Hey everybody, watch out for SILVERBLEED, who
flew up 23 points in the rankings after mashing GENGHIS TRON like a melon. Keep your
eye on this guy. And falling like a basher in the top ten was ZIGGY WOLFSBANE, who
dropped 15 points after a disappointing (to say the least) bout with BROOD. Unlike
most arenas, FLAMING FLAMINGO managed to get his challenge off against the 18-19-0
MUSHIKU BO. Well, everybody's pal FLAMING FLAMINGO moved his record to 19-12-0 by
defeating MUSHIKU BO in the Duelmaster's Title Bout and gaining 5 recognition points.
Advice to bashers--never force anything, just get a bigger halberd!
But enough of that bunch, let's get on to the wimps who like to avoid battle!
Did you hear that D.R.I. was most avoided team this week? Well, knowing the personal
hygiene of D.R.I.'s warriors, I'm not surprised! For those of you who like math, try
this one: D.R.I. + Weapons That go Boom = PESTILENCE + Avoid City. Well just about
everybody wants a piece of MUSHIKU BO, who was this week's most challenged warrior.
Can any one out there say 'weasel'? Oh well, just saying VULGE will do. He
challenged 19 points down to trash CONRAD. Definition of petty: VULGE killed
CONRAD, a mismatch of 19 points. Well, it looks like FOORMAN wasn't happy with last
turn's rank, so he went for broke by challenging up 29 points. No guts, no glory.
To the crowd's chants of 'Bo-zo bo-zo bo-zo', GRAVEYARD TAN was taken out by the
lower-ranked FOORMAN. (Maybe it's time to think Dark Arena?). In a touching display
by a 'touched' warrior, BLESSED BLUEJAY went after NERVE RAKER, who was higher by 22
points. Well, when the dust settled, BLESSED BLUEJAY was defeated by NERVE RAKER.
Remember that an arena is not always a safe place to be, but it is one of the
most interesting, though! This week 6-6-1 JACKAL was sent to the Dark Arena. I know
a lot of fighters with similar records who might take notice of this. Well, the
arena is no place for slow learners (and hopefully T.P.s) and VULGE demonstrated that
very violently on CONRAD's body. Well, just when you thought it was safe to put a
new warrior in the arena. No no! SUNSHINE, a mere girl, was slain by GLUTTONY this
turn. Ask not the elves for counsel, for they will say both yes and no. Silly
buggers, eh?
I think I had better cut this one short. It's been nice chatting to those of
you whom I have not offended yet. Okay, so I may not be the world's best comedian,
but then you guys aren't the world's best warriors. Its been real, and its been fun,
but it hasn't been real fun...-- The Unknown Spymaster

Enough! I cannot take this namby-pamby Andorian-like arena anymore! No! I'm off to
where the real managers and fighters who believe in blood and guts dwell. Gonna slug
it out! Maybe some day when things change I will return. Maybe not. -- Sir Steele,
Metal Marvels
Ahh, from 5-0 to 1-4...(sigh)...this arena is like a box of chocolates. I guess
that's what keeps it interesting! -- Stik
Nomad -- I think Woody did indeed show up in the personals, he just couldn't remember
to sign his name.... -- Stik
Light Brigade -- Well, you wanted more attention. 1-1, almost 2-0 for us.... -- Grim
Fandango
Black Tiger -- Yeah, everyone's got a plan until they take that first broadsword to
the forehead! -- Bravos
Sherman -- Dude, I think you're teetering on the edge...c'mon back now...deep
breaths, ok. First off, you'll notice that from my stable, any dire threats, insults
and real trash talking almost always come from my warriors and not from me. And
they're directed at other warriors, not managers. That's because while we all strut
around here with our fun fake names and managerial personas, over time I've come to
realize that only a few out there really role play the manager's position, for most
it's a thin veil hiding the real person beneath. Thus diatribes, threats and insults
hurled at managers don't do much to help things, particularly when they're delivered
clumsily and with no humor, or with genuine hatred and venom towards the actual
player. Add to it the reality that we're for the most part a bunch of grown men
doing this, and it just gets a little silly imho.
Beyond reproach? Please. If you think insulting someone like Assur will get
them to come back or stay around just to get back at you, dream on. Most veteran
managers have one or two arenas they think of as home and play in full time, and have
tourney teams scattered everywhere else. I'm one of these. I don't know how long
you've been playing, but trust me it's all been done. The junior-high, circa 1985
threats/insults are a dime a dozen, they roll off the back, and are forgotten by most
vets as they focus on the next Face or mailer. And if they're aimed at newbies it
may scare them away, just what a shrinking game needs....
I used to try to egg on the fly-over tourney managers, too, doesn't work. The
only way to get managers interested in staying is to build an arena up over time, as
we've done here, treat managers with some respect and courtesy if they are deserving,
and hope they stay a while and get attached. That may sound a bit Andorian, but it
by no means gives anyone a free pass; Assur's guys weren't guaranteed anything when
they activated, just like Doc Steele's or Ultraist's or anyone else's. They've still
got to fight and win, just like all who step on the sands. I sure as hell don't want
to lose to them, and if I can I'll gleefully hand them their heads and say better
luck next time! Tourney timing sucks, but it's a fact of life in today's game. I
don't want you to leave as we've developed a pretty good rivalry, but if you dislike
it that much then just run in 81 and save the rest of us all the B.S.
Sorry for the long-windedness all, I'll not speak on this matter here again at
length. -- Stik
Duelmaster Flamingo -- Congrats on reclaiming the throne and your grad notice. I'd
ask if you were going to reveal your secrets, but anybody who's been on the D2
website is already informed. ;) -- Stik
Pestilence and Death's Disciples -- Nice first turns, welcome to the Jewel of the
Delarquan Federation! First round's on us down at the Broken Bone! -- Grim Fandango
Nomad and Stik -- Whoops, even the righteously indignant can get self-righteous at
times. My apologies. -- Sherman, mgr. Lit. Loons (It didn't seem so condescending
when sent....)
Genghis Tron -- Is that what you call shooting fish in a barrel? Where's that leave
you? Guppy, bait? -- Conrad
Vulge -- Revolting names and styles render revolting results (at least wherever
you're concerned, dim-wit). -- Bulgakov
Rooster Fish -- Tell me as you crawled along the ground with the worms and insects,
how do you feel? Embarrassed over your loss--maybe, disappointed by your own
inadequacy--definitely, or were you in fact very grateful that I allowed you to live
--absolutely. -- Bloody Star
Machismo: a strong or exaggerated sense of manliness.
Sherman -- First, let me say that I never expected that strong of a reaction to
Raker's comments. However, your ads did tend to convey the idea above as "insult,
anger and piss-off" are the words you used to describe them. But, whatever, if the
word offends, I'll drop it.
I do agree with your assessment of Assur and all tourney timers. I prefer those
who commit to an arena and fight a full team. Thus I actually enjoy competing with
your Loons. (Please don't be offended, the term can mean "crazy," but I mean it only
in connection to literacy!) You fight and you talk, both lively attributes.
However, I doubt yelling at Assur will get him to return. Plus, it just isn't my
style. The "machismo" comment is about as offensive as my warriors tend to get. In
fact, if you re-read the ad, my first inclination was to compliment Bulgakov on a
good fight. Insults, anger and pissing-people-off just don't make sense to me. The
strength of my warriors is demonstrated on the sands, not in the ads. Welcoming
people to the arena hardly qualifies as "bending over backwards." I don't just let
the world pass over my head, (And I doubt Stik does either, but he can respond on his
own.) rather I work to make it what I want. I don't like overdone bravado, so I
don't do it. I like a friendly environment, so I welcome people. I look forward to
our continued competition on the sands. -- Nomad
Pestilence, Death's Disciples and other newcomers -- A hearty welcome to those who
have come to risk their blood upon the sands! -- Nomad and his Tribe
Genny -- Well, that up-challenge didn't work so well. The rest of your teams turn
seemed to have better results. -- Ziggy
Gleek -- I think we've managed to take you down a few times now. Nice try. -- Dream
Vulture -- Well, I guess the first one wasn't just luck. -- Shaman the Warrior
V.P. -- I think I speak for the entire team when I say "go away!" And stop breaking
my weapons! -- Raker
Woody -- I guess you did speak up. Now if only my challenge would get through! --
Nomad

The Council of Lords would like to propose a rule change in ADM and Primus. We
propose that Lord Protectors ranked "Grand Champions" and below (ADM) and "The Tower
Guard" and below (Primus) be allowed to fight in the Dark Arena. This would not
impact the top rankings or title match. Any managers who never got his fill or shot
at fighting Gateway monsters would have it as an option. We believe it might spark
some interest in the ADM/Primus realm for some managers. If interested, speak up in
the newsletters or on forums under the "rules changes" thread and let RSI know. This
could even be something to try for 12 months and then be re-evaluated. What say you,
managers of Ghea? -- The Icelord sends....

victory the more we celebrate. Highsiding and chest thumping are encouraged.
Ostentatious endzone celebrations with prop usage are encouraged, regardless of
fines, penalties, suspensions or arrest by local authorities. It is important to let
your opponent know how great you are; more importantly, you must let your own
alliance mates know how great you are.
This is a 1-up alliance, let the performance of your fellow Free Agent$ motivate
you. If a Free Agent wins a TV, win 2; if a Free agent wins a contest, win a more
prestigious one.
