"It's infamous!" Ardane, spy reporter for Andorak, scowled and drew back his
arm to throw his goblet through the window at the crowd outside. Then paused to
drain the contents before resuming the about-to-throw-it position.
"Now, now, it isn't THAT bad." Desiree of Darkholm, always the voice of sweet
reason at these meetings, laid a hand on his, smiled, and guided the goblet back to
the table. "It's just a little mistake, you know."
"Ha!" Debby Tonte of Free Blades stabbed viciously into her drink with an
umbrella. "That's easy for YOU to say. The Delarquans aren't complaining."
"Of course not." Galen of Talahya looked faintly envious as she pulled a chunk
of pineapple out of her glass and began to nibble it. "That's because the Delarquans
are THE Masters of Kung-Fu."
"You think some managers are complaining," Olaf Modeen said, "you should hear
what the GLADIATORS are saying. All these rumors about the Aimed Blows having
'special enhancements'..." he shook his head. "I know it isn't true, you know it
isn't true, the top managers know it isn't true--"
"Of course it isn't true!" Ketchum, spy reporter for Crysalis, matched scowls
with Ardane and said, "If ANY one style was going to get a special enhancement, it
should be--"
"Not now, Ketch," Olaf said. "Nobody gets, nobody has gotten, nobody WILL get,
special enhancements. That's always been the rule, and we all know how the Greywand
hates changes. The real problem--"
"Try telling that to some of the managers," Debby muttered, peering into her
glass for more fruit. "They don't want to hear it. Every time I turn around, some
manager is claiming that someone got a special change and, you know, HE didn't and
it's all unfair."
"The REAL problem," Olaf said firmly, over-riding her voice, "is explaining to
all the second-rate Aimed Blows why they haven't received any of these 'special
enhancements' they keep hearing about."
"There aren't any special enhancements," Ardane growled. "None. Just managers
who noticed that the Kung-Fu Master is a lot more dangerous than anyone expected, and
have put YEARS into the study of Kung-Fu and learned how to really USE it for their
own gladiators."
"Saved a lot on weapons, too," Ketchum murmured.
"But people keep complaining," Debby Tonte said. She fished one last piece of
fruit out of her glass and stared at it dubiously.
"There WERE no special enhancements," Olaf said. "There ARE no special
enhancements. There WILL BE no special enhancements. It's all a matter of deep
study and skilled management."
"Like anyone's going to believe that!"
"They have no choice," Ketchum said. "If no 'special enhancements' were given
out, then none can be taken back. It is the way it is. What's the point in
complaining because the sun rises in the east?"

Notes from the arena champ.
Ah...the throne. How nice to take my place upon the seat of honor. I am proud
to represent this fine city!
Getting here has been a long climb, even if you forget the 14 year layoff
between the beginning of my career and my claiming the throne. I guess the wait only
makes some things all the sweeter. The last two turns have also seen some personal
vindication as I have finally managed to down both Bulgakov and Violent Pacification,
two warriors I have long thought I could defeat, but had previously failed to do so.
For now Sunset, I encourage you to speak up! Last turn, only two managers
submitted ads...a shamefully low total. Is the Doc always silent? Woody, have you
no more boasts to make as your record slides towards even? Sherman, there must be
someone you can yell at! (Might I suggest Mushiku Bo for demonstrating such courage
in hiding out and not fighting after killing Hamsun?) Sunset is not a small arena,
are all the others populating our fine city afraid to speak?

SPY REPORT
Thankyouthankyou. It's great for me, The Unknown Spymaster to be back in
SUNSET. Hope you enjoy the show. Oh, who am I kidding? I already got paid! We now
have a new top team for all of you guys to dogpile on. LAKOTA now holds the crown
and they are betting they can keep it. It was a tough week for LIGHT BRIGADE, to
drop 6 places in the rankings. Coming up with a solid 3-0-1 outing, CHAOS has
advanced 7 places in the rankings. Hey everybody, watch out for BEDLAM, who flew up
23 points in the rankings after mashing DANGEROUS CRIMINAL like a melon. Keep your
eye on this guy. And falling like a basher in the top ten was AZRAEL, who dropped 15
points after a disappointing (to say the least) bout with DISCORD. Our battling
duelmaster NERVE RAKER has managed to hold the title, fending off BRAVOS' none too
subtle advances. Better luck next time, GRIM FANDANGO. Advice to bashers--never
force anything, just get a bigger halberd!
Here is other news that is of note. And hey, kiddies, those of you who didn't
avoid NOMADIC TRIBE, please raise you hand. Wow. Does SUNSET really have that many
liars? Okay, so I may not be funny, but catch GRIM FANDANGO's act in the arena.
Those acrobats seem to be fairly deft at running from NOMADIC TRIBE. And who is this
ROOSTER FISH you ask, with 18 points and a 1-6-0 record. Ooh, the tales I could
tell! In a touching display by a 'touched' warrior, DARLA went after ROAD RUNNER,
who was higher by 21 points. Well, when the dust settled, DARLA lost to ROAD RUNNER.
STARVATION of FAMINE had better have a good reason for challenging down 11 points in
a challenge which she lost. I thought STARVATION showed great skill and promise when
she was subdued by ZIGGY WOLFSBANE. All right, so I slept through it! Big deal!
Being a spy is great--other people die and you spend the rest of the day
drinking to their memory. Better tanked than dead! There's got to be more reason
for the sending of THE LEPER to the Dark Arena than his record (8-3-0). Anybody got
any ideas PHILTHBALLS? It's not often when you see a 10-6-0 warrior like BRAVOS kick
the bucket. I wonder if GRIM FANDANGO will recover from the blow. Remember:
alliances are great, but try and take your ally in the arena with you and see what
happens.
Well, there's the manager of the SUNSET giving me the 'cut' sign (or is that
'They're going to strangle you in the alley?). Well, there goes another Spy Report.
