DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
Notes from the arena champ.
Honestly, why do some of you insist on carrying no back-up? Just a dagger might
be enough. There was the brave Gangplank Rider, about to fall off his plank anyway,
and his weapon breaks. I doubt it made a difference in the outcome, but did he
really think punching a broadsword was a good idea? Perhaps I shall give you one
more chance this turn to see what you can do if your weapon stays in one piece.
Of course, one more shot is all I can offer him as I am off to the Isle after
this turns cycle. And, after all of his complaints about clogging up the top, it
would appear that Graveyard Tan will be bringing his pasty complexion along as well.
Congrats to the former Duelmaster on his graduation! Stop by the Brokenbone Tavern
folks, and you can see if Stik has stopped his "I-graduated-a-plunger!" dance! Some
of the moves are really, well, disturbing.
Hopefully he will have finished his celebration by the end of this turn's
fighting as we are going to co-opt the bar for a bit of a blow-out of our own--a
celebration of my graduation (And Tan's as well) and of the Tribe's reaching the
triple digit mark in wins! Yeah, I know we are hardly the first team to do so, but
it is still an accomplishment.
Good luck to all, a rousing welcome to the new folks in town, and a witty pen to
next turns titleholder!
-- Shaman, Duelmaster of Sunset and Lord Protector
SPY REPORT
Much has changed in SUNSET since last I was here. Never fear, Olaf Modeen
adapts to many situations, as do all successful fighters. Phhbltt! Too much
drinking and too little dodging gave LITERATE LOONS a 1-4-0! I got a good laugh out
of it! Ya gotta be quick on yer feet! Keep your elbow off the table! Thrust!
Block out the pain! KANO CLAN is now ranked 5th with a 2-1-0 turn. It seems so
recently people were saying SEA DOGS was washed up, finished. But 3-1-0 moved them
up 4. I guess they're washed no more... What's with HOEGARDEN? It actually beat
NOMADIC TRIBE's BLACK TIGER, and walked away with 24 more points from the fight.
Major screwup at LIGHT BRIGADE. FOORMAN lost 15 points to DARLA. Some new
strategies, perhaps? Maybe FOORMAN will provide more easy wins... SUNSET has a
Duelmaster who doesn't sit back and get lazy. He challenged SEA DOGS' GANGPLANK
RIDER (8-2-0), which should prove (ahem!) interesting. I can barely restrain my
enthusiam for SEA DOGS' outstanding member, Duelmaster GANGPLANK RIDER. I suppose
you want to hear some rumors and dirty gossip about your fellow fighters? Tough!
Speaking of cowardly avoiders and unfair challenges... How well I know the
feeling of being in the most avoided team! Don't fall out of practive, GRIM
FANDANGO! The bums at NOMADIC TRIBE couldn't face the challenges from GRIM FANDANGO!
No excuse for that! How well I know the feeling of being the most challenged
warrior, LAGERKVIST! Don't make idle boasts, they may come back to haunt you.
WHITMAN of LITERATE LOONS knows how to pick 'em. He challenged STAY GOLD of GRIM
FANDANGO who is up by 18. Now was this a wise move? WHITMAN perhaps got his just
desserts, seeing as he was beat by STAY GOLD and ended up with 9 recognition points.
There have been some calls to lengthen the time limit. Do you want the fighters
to walk away, or not? How long have I been here? I got people to see, places to
go...
Who knows what the future holds for a warrior. More fights, there's no doubt.
All work and no play makes Olaf a dull fighter. Work and play no fighter dull Olaf.
Olaffighterwork and no play. I don't want to overstay my welcome...-- Olaf Modeen

PERSONAL ADS
All -- Graveyard Tan graduates at last, and I can exhale! Finally gotten a plunger
off this team, and he's probably the last one I'll ever run! He was: 9-17(+1)-13-
15(+1)-17-4-11, adv exp's in init and parry, exp attack. Favored the SC, MOD/MOD,
liked the parry tactic, learns parry. Was +2 init, probably mode all else. I used
SC early on but he was very average with it, thought it was probably LO near the end,
but the trusty SH always seemed to get the job done. I have to thank Tripwire the
plunger master for his advice on design and strats, without which I probably would've
screwed it up completely. I tweaked his design slightly but used his strat\weapon
suggestions almost always, usually 3-5-5 P min. 1 and then dropping the tactic after
that, going offensive in desp. Now to get a couple more puds graduated! -- Stik
Cannon Fodder -- I had a hunch you'd come a huntin'...gotta watch out for that "if-
challenged" strat! (evil grin) You can pick up all your broken shields on the way
out! -- Lord Protector Graveyard Tan
Duelmaster/Lord Protector Shaman -- And so we both head off into the Sunset. Wait,
that's probably AWAY from Sunset...anyway, congrats on your grad notice! Maybe we'll
dance the Fandango one last time...in any case, head over to the Broken Bone post
fights for one last party!! -- Lord Protector G.T.
P.S. Nice to read your columns, I think Rosie and the Trumpster may have called a
truce for now, though....
Balzac -- Nice one. -- Blakout
Whitman -- (in best Foghorn Leghorn voice) Well, don't, I say, don't just STAND
there son, DO somethin'!! -- Nevermoor
Clone Bank -- I really don't have it in for you guys, honest! You just bring out the
cold blooded killer in me, apparently! -- Stay Gold
Welcome to Sunset, Bad Beat! Hopefully for you the name won't always hold
true...first round's on us tonight! -- Stik and Grim Fandango
Welcome back Seadogs and Raging Lords, Blades UP!! -- Grim Fandango
And maybe Sir Jessie Jest will be making an appearance soon as well??...
Momoro Wa -- Sometimes the newsletter writers get it right. "Viciously subdued"
probably does fit that little bout. Nice try. -- Black Tiger
Elite Guard -- Interesting challenge. At first I thought the armor was a silly
choice, but then I realized how badly you needed it! -- Ziggy
Doily -- You might want to read this week's column for some advice on backups. I
don't think it changed the outcome, but it sure didn't help your chances. Despite
the shattered metal, it was an impressive fight. -- Dream
Fellow SUNSETtlers -- I offer my apologies for the Pink missing the previous fracas.
I made the mistake of letting Fred drive the wagon whilst the rest of us slept. When
I awoke, the wagon was in front of the Papa Bear Inn and Fred was passed out with a
huge grin on his face. Though he won't admit it, I'm pretty sure someone's been
sleeping in my Fred. -- Captain Billy
