DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
Notes from the arena champ.
The throne--I did not expect to be here this turn. A little excitement with M.
Chardinee was not the fight I thought would bring me this honor. But here I sit with
nary a wolf in sight of which to be the bane. I guess I will have to make do with
artillery targets, dogs of the sea, an operatic singer and dainty little sewing
thingies like my Grandmother used to make. And whatever a "Vulge" is. I guess it
sounds tough, but I'm just a bit unclear about this. Care to enlighten us on this
one Vulge?
If the overall column seems a bit rambling you'll have to forgive me. I was
hoping that whenever I got the chance to write one of these I could just copy off of
what the previous title-holder had done, but alas, it would seem that Parrot Keeper
didn't give me much too work with. Too busy with the bird, I guess.
We have had a few returns or new arrivals in recent turns. Welcome to the Death
Mob. It isn't the most charitable of names, but then it is a stable of warriors.
Welcome to Sunset! And Sword Opera has returned! They don't always seem focused on
their dueling, but they certainly do make the place a bit louder--in a good,
operatic, sort of way, of course.
Well, I must get back to my training as my teammates have assured me that I do
not have singing career to fall back on.
-- Ziggy Wolfsbane, Duelmaster of Sunset
SPY REPORT
Thankyouthankyou. It's great for me, The Unknown Spymaster to be back in
SUNSET. Hope you enjoy the show. Oh, who am I kidding? I already got paid! A
stormcloud is brewing over the SEA DOGS guildhouse. Rumor says any more weeks like
this ones 0-2-0 may send the team to the Dark Arena. Coming up with a solid 3-2-0
outing, GRIM FANDANGO has advanced 3 places in the rankings. KANO CLAN is no joke as
it posted a 4-1-1 week advancing from 9th place to 8th place. Ya know, some days it
doesn't pay to walk out on the sands. URSA MINOR was bested by FRED and drops 18
points. In front of all the crowds, DJININSKI took the Duelmaster's crown for his
own. I give the bum two weeks. 4 out of 5 gladiators surveyed protect the body, so
try and avoid aiming at that location.
Here is other news that is of note. And hey, kiddies, those of you who didn't
avoid GRIM FANDANGO, please raise you hand. Wow. Does SUNSET really have that many
liars? Okay, so I may not be funny, but catch BAD BEAT's act in the arena. Those
acrobats seem to be fairly deft at running from GRIM FANDANGO. Well dang howdy, but
if challenges were votes, ASSASSIN would be president. Although it may be a contest
he doesn't want to win. In a touching display by a 'touched' warrior, BULLWINKLE
went after CANNON FODDER, who was higher by 21 points. Well, when the dust settled,
BULLWINKLE beat CANNON FODDER. SLYTHR of GRIM FANDANGO had better have a good reason
for challenging down 8 points in a challenge which he won. I thought SLYTHR showed
great skill and promise when he subdued GRAHAM. All right, so I slept through it!
Big deal!
Being a spy is great--other people die and you spend the rest of the day
drinking to their memory. Better tanked than dead! This week 21-15-0 MATSUDA KAO
was sent to the Dark Arena. I know a lot of fighters with similar records who might
take notice of this. For those of you who missed it, Death showed up, grabbed RIFFLE
by the ear and took him away to a place where he won't need a coat. Congrats to
HOGSNORT for revenging the death of his teammate (but more importantly, feeding DUDE
a bit of dirt). Here's some advice: warriors with little wit and will may encounter
problems on the trail to the Isle.
Well, that wasn't too bad; Alarond told me that the people in SUNSET have no
sense of humor. Or maybe that they were senseless. C'mon, Leadfoot, let's make some
tracks. Hasta la bye-bye. (Loud choruses of 'Beat it, ya bum!')-- The Unknown

Nevermoor
Lagerkvist -- Nice comeback, I wasn't expecting that. Some other time again! -- Stay

Whitman -- I knew you were good for it. -- Nevermoor
Riffle -- Piffle, piffle, piffle, you are. -- Kerouac
Dick -- Yeah, what a ****. I could've told you before the fight started what a ****
you are, but no, you just wouldn't listen. You had to believe that being a **** was
no big deal at all. Hopefully I put an end to that speculation. Once a **** always
a ****. -- Hammett
Nevermoor -- Good challenge, very daring. The sea is wide and the sky is blue. And
there you are, finding new ways to dominate the kiddie pool and run yellow across the
ceiling. -- Whitman
Baron Tone -- Hopefully getting smacked around won't affect your ability to make
music. But really, you might want to focus on the fighting side of your career for
awhile. -- Tengri Khan
Scout -- That was an odd fight. You just stood there until I whacked you. At some
point even scouts need to be a little concerned with their own safety, don't they? --
Ursa Minor
Graham -- Well, that was a dangerous little fight. I'm glad I was able to pull that
one out. I see some wins in your future, just not against me. -- Dante
Matsuda -- Even with the wrong strategy and facing a 3-1 FE disadvantage I still took
down a Clansman for the fourth time. So much for the bloodfeud, but I guess I do
have to give you credit for trying. Just remember, don't challenge members of the
Tribe and we won't try and kill you. -- Bullwinkle
Stay Gold -- A "European Carry-all?" I have one of those as well, but I call mine a
purse. -- Ursa Minor
Korlac -- Listen, I was really tense, okay? I've been having this little problem
with the Commission, they think I'm a dwarf. That annoys me. I shaved the sideburns
in the hopes that they would see the error of their worthless ways, but I have
received no definite confirmation of this. I'd been planning to go visit my mom, but
she won't let me in the house as long as I'm officially a dwarf, says she never had
any truck with dwarves (though they're said to be good with trucks) and she doesn't
want me there confusing the issue. I said, What issue? And she told me to get out.
So I'm tense. -- Rossmont
P.S. Congratulations on having a tv challenge and using it.
Vulge -- AAAAAAaaaaah! I'm a dancer, man, not some idiot who stands on the front
lines of battle and meets the enemy's berserker furies with a song on my lips.
Besides, I can't sing. -- Dijininski
Balzac -- Loon? Thou art not a "loony" if thee maketh money at the business, even if
*I* wouldstn't read the darned stuff. Thou mayst be a scurvy knave, thou canst
hardly avoid itt being a foreyner, not a loon. Trust in my judgment in thiss, as I
know these things well. -- Breakspere
P.S. Madame Butterfly hath insisted that I practice mine antiquated diction for some
playe she proposes to stage soon, wherefore thou must live with itt.
P.P.S. And Ed. also.
*growl* -- Ed.
Slythr -- I knew you were a dangerous man when I saw that you had deceived me as to
your race. Or species, if you prefer to look at it from that angle. But, clearly,
you are NOT a dwarf. I don't CARE what the Evil Inputter says about some foreign
city that has ONE tall dwarf. One might be a freak. Thousands of overgrown dwarves
has got to be the tip of some deep-laid plot. -- Merry Leona
Tengri Khan -- You're a nasty wee fellow, are you not? Probably a tenor. Tenors do
not interest me at all, they are no competition and there is little for me to learn
from them, which is why I learned nothing from you. -- Baron Tone
Ursa Minor -- My dear lady, I am not OLD, just mature, like a fine wine. And I will
bring a fine wine with me when we go to listen to the madrigals, hmm? Amazing how it
fends off the chill. -- Djininski

Order of Lost Souls
Where there is a beginning, there is an end. Where there is a whole, there is a
part. Where there is light, there is dark. All these are found to be true and along
with the most important, when something is lost it can always be found.
Many a person has walked this land in one form or another. Some truly believe
that here is there and there is here but who really knows? Among the peoples of this
great land many have felt lost in time and in place. Some have gone as far as to be
lost of soul....
Although most are thought to have been born into this world in a mortal way, no
one can be sure. Life is something they have in a way but a torturous joke to them
in all others. They live in a sense as they are here and now and having mind and
knowledge. They are flesh and blood of one sort of another. They cast a shadow as
all things living do. Blood courses through their veins.
These beings have become wraiths drifting here and there, knowing that they
truly belong nowhere. Searching for that one thing that they seem to be missing or
the one thing in them that puts them beyond others. These people have become masters
of many things as time seems to have no hold. For not even time can find those that
are truly lost. Many of these beings have drifted toward the gladiatorial games. In
the blood and chaos of the arenas something holds them like no other. It's the loss
of something they have never had or something they had so long ago it seems to have
never been. LIFE.
A few of the more shall we say "human" of these beings have settled into many
arenas around the land. The loss of life and the crazed emotions of the arenas
giving them glimpses of things they longed for but seemed incapable of attaining.
A number of these lost ones saw in each other something that might be able to
help the other. They spent many a day traveling to and fro, for what is time to one
who it doesn't touch. The more time they spent together the more they seemed to
change. No one noticed the change in the others but each recognized it in himself.
Years passed and the changes stopped. Each had been changed in different ways but
all felt more whole. A discussion ensued between them. They came to a realization
that in each other they had found parts of themselves that had been missing. Then
came the next thought. If they could find more of like minded lost ones they might
eventually find what they always wanted, their true selves.
The group settled down to think things through. They finally came up with an
idea they all could accept. They would form an organization that through their
arenas through out the land they would seek out other lost ones. If they were of
like mind they would be invited to join the group and seek that special something
they all desired.
This was how it began and how it still is. The Order of Lost Souls was formed
and the search began. The original members numbered six. They were Baphomet,
Blackstorm, Hammer, JGW, Reaper and Wretch. These members of the Order spread their
gladiator stables through out the realm seeking others like them. Through blood and
death they lived through others. One day hoping to live for themselves. For as they
all know what is lost must eventually be found....
